Aaah, not an all European final after all! Cool~
Can't we just agree that neither team won this match though?

Losing through penalties huh? Seems karma really is a bitch.
Well, we put the guy who never stopped a penalty before in his professional career in the goal, I'm not too surprised we lost.
Uugh, I really hate penalties.
Grats to Argentina anyway, but their play has been boring as hell in the tournament. Hopefully Germany will destroy them in the final, although Argentina's defense has been one of the best in the tournament. Yet, Germany's offense has been super effective and they have one of the best goal keepers so I'm expecting some goals. Hatty for Müller in the final plz
Can't wait to hear the elaborate sophisticated reason that I don't get why neither team won the match.
Remember when I said Cilessen should be pissed for being subbed against Costa Rica?
I take it back. He's horrible at PKs.
Argentina argentina argentina argentina argentina argentina argentina!!!!!!
That was one of the most shameful goal performances I've ever seen. He was way too overconfident on the first two.
Disappointing end to a boring game.
Remember when I said Cilessen should be pissed for being subbed against Costa Rica?
I take it back. He's horrible at PKs.
When compared to Krul he looked like a little boy there jumping around in the goal, trying to intimidate his opponents.
It's just not the same without Van der Sar.
So this is it, huh? Germany vs Argentina in the finale.
I was slightly hoping for a Germany vs Netherlands finale, but oh well…
Losing through penalties huh? Seems karma really is a bitch.
That would mean Germany winning after penalties in the final and nobody wants that.
It's all Greece's fault this vicious cycle is going. Why couldn't they lose to Costa Rica the normal way.
I was more hyped for Argentina vs Brazil
Can´t we just have Brazil in the final? At least it will be entertaining.
First real tactical slip-up for Van Gaal. Should have held off on the substitution for Krul. Actually, the Netherlands should have taken the game to Argentina at some point and not specifically played for penalties, but whatever. With Romero making two saves Krul probably wouldn't have made a difference anyway.
Ah well. The Dutch offense disappeared after the Round of 16 and never came back. Argentina was a smidge better than them this game, just a smidge, but that was enough. Expecting Germany to beat Argentina 2-0 in the final.

I would laugh if that happened.
Imagine some sort of PK virus spreading through the Cup.
And then Germany loses in Russia 2018 against some African team during penalties and then the cycle repeats.
This is so damn funny. Krul giving Cillessen "advise" how to deal with the penalties and what's the first thing he does? Mock the Argentinians. LOOL.
When compared to Krul he looked like a little boy there jumping around in the goal, trying to intimidate his opponents.
Ahahahaha, exactly.

I feel bad for Robben, honestly. I mean sure he wasn't at his best today, but he played a fantastic world cup and I would have loved a Germany / Holland final.
Krul probably wouldn't have mattered guys, the Netherlands took terrible penalties. You really can't blame their keeper for not saving any when the odds are only around 1/4 of stopping one.
Van Gaal sold out to win in extra time with his last sub and they just didn't do it. Beautiful defensive game by Argentina and also solid by the Dutch.
Kuyt was left-back in the first half and then switched to right-back. That was very funny.
And then Germany loses in Russia 2018 against some African team during penalties and then the cycle repeats.
Now this absolutely needs to happen.
I think the final will be a great game but I'd definitely give Germany the edge. Germany is the only team that looks really complete (that might have been a different story if Robben or Messi had another playmaker with them).
Man, Cilessen must feel like a piece of shit right now. Pretty much everybody in the Netherlands must wish that the goalies would have been switched again, I bet.

He never defended a PK in his career, so there's that for him.

The coach wasn't wrong when switched Van Persie for Huntelaar in the extra time; he was just unlucky that one of the players that he assigned to mark Messi got a yellow card and had to be switched to not get another yellow card, he lost a precious substitution there. I guess he never actually expected to not win, even in the extra time.
Van Persie…. No contribution at all. Always offiside...Like EVERYTIME
Yea, Van Persie made a good goal to start against Spain, and then promptly stopped mattering. What a disappointment. Robben however, aside from that penalty against Mexico, was a joy to watch.
So happy I got the final I wanted. Woohoo!
On the one hand I'm disappointed that the Netherlands lost. On the other hand I'm excited to see Germany hopefully wipe the floor with Argentina.
For the remaining two games I want to see the Netherlands go all out and do something similar to what they did against Spain. Let Krul play in the goal, switch in Huntelaar for Van Persie and give some other players a chance to at least be able to say that they've played in a World Cup finals game. And since it's Brazil they're up against, try to let Robben score four goals and take one of the awards home.
Germany will have to find ways through Argentina's defense. Messi is an overrated fuck anyway hence I doubt the German defense will have much trouble with him. And there's also Neuer to work miracles. But scoring goals will be the crucial part. I do believe Löw will find a way though and repeat what happened in the 1990 final.

So much of this.
Robben was awesome.
Wooow. What a boring as fuck match. What did I watch this for!? Probably the worst World Cup semi final in history (maybe this is exaggerated, maybe not, but in my current mood it seems to me that it is). To hell with both of these teams. Argentina has been a nuisance the entire tournament. They played like shit. Messi scored some goals and all of a sudden he's this big star again, although Di Maria was by far the best player of the team. I really hope Germany wipes the floor with these guys. I really hope they do. Brazil got what was coming to them, having come this far without knowing wtf they were doing. Now it's Argentina's time. I really really hope…
Very disappointed in the Netherlands. Amazing match against Spain that got everyones hopes up in them. Then it was just going downhill. Wow. Please let the final be a great entertaining game. The quarter finals were awful and this game was even worse. Jesus, I can't rant any longer. Sorry for this, just gotta let this out. So sad.
You can't expect every game full of goals and entertainment. This game was a clear indication of how a team dominated by a few individuals can go down when they are marked out of the game. The defense of Argentina was surprisingly solid and especially Mascherano who OWNED the Dutch attackers big time. Messi was also kept decently silent by the Dutch def mids although they coughed up some yellow cards. Overall it was a very cautious game played by both side considering the stakes. The only substitution which was stupid was Huntelaar for Van Persie which made little sense as Huntelaar isn't a very pacy forward to be replaced late on for a final rush.
@Monkey:
He has frosted hair.
He looks too much like young chavez without it, so… allow it.

Why, in a football thread, with people from all over the world, you get bored by a 0-0 result, after this ammount of plays, strong defense and offense, and a game that only could have been improved by good weather. I don't know what game were you watching to think it was boring, yesterday's plowing was boring.
Yesterday was a fluke, a bad game caused by bad arbitrage that allowed a weak Brazil to win through a Stronger Chile, and a deserving Colombia. Yesterday was more indication of Brazil's weakness rather than Germany strenght.
Germany played impecably, without leting out at any moment, but after the 3rd Myself could have scored.
So Germany Vs Argentina in the final match huh?
I dare to say we'll get the cup finally again after 24 years.

Interestingly, that time it was also against Argentina.
Also interesting, if Germany wins it'd be the first cup they win as a unified Germany, as opposed to being West Germany.
I don't exactly like to say a team deserves or don't deserve to win but I would say Germany has had a pretty tough set of fixtures from the group stages till now and they have fared obviously very well! It would be disappointing to see them lose in the final if it happens. Argentina have literally scrapped through to the finals and played against not-so-top-quality teams except for the last one. On paper, they have one of the most deadliest forward line in the planet but their goal ratio has been in complete contrast to it. It's good to know that the coach understands their weakness which lies in their aging defense and makes them more of a defensive minded team giving only a decent amount of freedom to their attackers to score (which they have utilized a bit efficiently). But I am not sure how this will work against the Germans.
Germany likes to pick out weak spots in the defense lines especially players who trot forward leaving their position awkwardly open (MARCELO FROM BRAZIL) and repeatedly punch through it. So the way they will play Mascherano is going to be crucial since he is the only person highly capable of breaking up German attacks in their team. Whether they make him man mark Mueller or take care of midfielders who come in advanced positions will be interesting to see.
Many players are from Bayern and they might be having the experience on how to handle Messi so the goals, if it comes, will be coming from the other forwards perhaps.

It'd also be the first time a European team wins the World Cup on the American continent.
(Hilariously, on the Wikipedia page about this WC, Germany is already listed as winner?)

Wikipedia is always right.
happy to see the Dutch are out
will be even happier to see the Germans win
that said, I wouldn't call this a boring match. The first 100 minutes were pretty shitty, yes, but there was a period in the last 20 minutes or so in which both the Dutch and the Argentine teams were delivering shots over and over. I was pretty into it, even though I dislike both teams.
overall though, I agree with everyone who comments that the world cup went downhill after the group stage. there were a lot of really shitty games in the quarterfinals

True, but the rounds of 16 had some pretty good moments.
Costa Rica/Greece was probably the worst one, and it was worth because of that penalty shootout. It was the best one i ever saw.
Really excited to see Germany win, I dare hope. I'm more than half German, more or less, and currently in Germany - the feelings got so intense after that massacre against Brazil. I couldn't really believe it to be honest, it was totally surreal…
Also, no offence, but I'm glad we are not playing against Netherlands - I really liked Robben's performance at the start of the tourney, but for my tastes he dives a bit too often and too quickly to be considered a fair player. And I believe we'll play better against Argentina, for some reason.
People have to understand that teams won't go all out attack and try to score more goals when there is so much at stake. Of course it's going to be "shitty" football but they have their own reasons not to attempt in showcasing their free flowing pleasant-to-watch football. You can't expect underdog teams to go out all attack against teams like Germany which would crap all over on counter attacks so cautious play is what they would do.
On the other hand, some good teams purposefully go on defensive mode to frustrate the opponents and try to win. Thankfully, that has not happened much in this WC.
Maaan. The Argentina - Holland game was a major disappointment.
The way both teams played, we might as well have just gone to penalties immediately.
I wonder how much of an effect Brazil's embarrassment at the hands of Germany had on the way they played.
Since the candidates for the various World Cup awards have been announced, I figured I'd post them and let you guys share your takes on the whole thing.
Golden Ball
1. Di Maria (ARG)
2. Hummels (GER)
3. James Rodriguez (COL)
4. Kroos (GER)
5. Lahm (GER)
6. Mascherano (ARG)
7. Messi (ARG)
8. Müller (GER)
9. Robben (NED)
10. Neymar (BRA)
Golden Glove
1. Keylor Navas (CRC)
2. Manuel Neuer (GER)
3. Sergio Romero (ARG)
Golden Boot
will at this point go to James Rodriguez barring Müller scoring in the final.
Hyundai Young Player Award
1. Paul Pogba (FRA)
2. Raphael Varane (FRA)
3. Memphis Depay (NED)
What do you think? Were the right players nominated? Or were those more deserving of the award skipped?
For me it's clearly the latter seeing how someone like Romero gets nominated while Ochoa or Ospina are left out in the rain. Fair? Hardly.

Romero is the reason Argentina made it to the finals, I can see why he's there.
I think it's more of the problem that there were a lot of really good goalies this cup.
I personally don't know why Messi is even in that list. I'd also argue against Neymar, but of fucking course they were going to put him in there.
Wtf why is dimaria and neymar top 10
Fifa is corrupt

Come on… 5 moments of brilliance from him got Argentina to the semis, and i don´t even like Argentina. I think Di Maria is weirder. He only had one good game and a decent one. Invisible in the GStage.
Young Player: Memphis Depay... what?
There really wasn´t anyone else for the list?
Edit: Just checked the criteria. ONLY AFTER JAN 1ST 1993.
Pretty stupid, there are some players from 1992 that are still 21 and deserve the award more than those.
Romero is the reason Argentina made it to the finals, I can see why he's there.

I'd say Messi carried his team through the group stages, as soon as he came off against Nigeria Argentina shrank into an average side.
Why is it forgotten how horrendously Di Maria was playing until the end of Switzerland Argentina? No way should he be first

Oh I was just using the numbers to list the players. They're not supposed to indicate any kind of ranking. As of now, all of them could end up receiving the award.

My bad, I thought Fifa were doing a "who's most likely to get it" list
Not a great start for Brazil, lol. I was thinking as long as they pulled themselves together and played some good football in front of a home audience like a bunch of professional athletes should be able to do, the disastrous semi-final could be forgiven, but this doesn't look good.
Edit: wtf I edited a double post and made both posts disappear somehow.
Lol…. Riot pending.
This is not looking good for Brazil
