Let's see…
Best part of SMWU so far is Chargin' Chuck. Worst part was everything else.
"You can slide and do a Sonic-style midair-direction-changing divebomb, just like a real cat." You've met some interesting cats, Kensuke.
I'm being half tongue-in-cheek, but what they've shown so far really didn't impress me. Like someone already said, it has none of the grandiose or boundary-pushing nature of SM64, Sunshine, or Galaxy. Multiplayer alone isn't enough of a gimmick (beaten to death in NSMBWii1/2/WiiU) to make up for being 3DLand+.
That said...
@Noqanky:
Also, a Mario game in which rescuing Peach is not the main motivation is an exciting prospect.
Absolutely. Anything to use as a counterpoint to Anita Sarkeesian is great, not because I dislike her, but because more counterpoints to her very legit complaints mean that the state of things is improving, which is what she, I, and most people want. Another game that normalizes Peach as just another playable character is wonderful.
DKCU: Viking Boogaloo looks good enough. I actually enjoyed the first one quite a bit despite it not being the Rare-made DKC4 of my dreams, and it looks like they're expanding on everything introduced there. Only five worlds and still no kremlings is a bit disappointing, but I trust Retro, in the end.
Smash… Megaman made me emotional. The Wily Castle, the music, the MM2 focus... for a few moments a happiness welled up inside me that made me temporarily forget about what a violent, brutal place the world is and how the government is spying on us all. It all melted away. Mega Man has that power. Maybe he got it by killing Ma-Ti from Captain Planet.
Villager is... whatever.
I don't feel any rage about Wii Fit Trainer. Not every character is going to be a mindblowingly popular one that everyone loves, and if she's fun to play as, then that's good enough.
3DS Zelda and M&L look great, but we already knew that. WiiU still needs a Metroid and a non-WW Zelda to convince me to buy it without a significant price drop.
One interesting point about Sony's conference is that, unlike Nintendo and Microsoft doubling down on what they've been doing, Sony has effectively admitted its earlier approach was wrong. They've gone from being the console that many developers hated for arrogance and complicated architecture to being the group that approached developers first before ever building the new system, then opening it effectively to indies. And instead of continuing their arrogance towards gamers so evident with the price point of the PS3 and some of their early comments, they've been surprisingly attentive, considering their approach to DRM seemed at least a little influenced by fans.
It's very unusual to see a company acknowledge and address their chief issues. Kudos to them.
Now work on Dark Cloud 3.
As a YouTuber has stated in one of his videos earlier today, it should be the gamers that should pat themselves on the back for not standing up for the BS Microsoft was trying to pull. No doubt, the disdain for the XBONE caused Sony to rethink how they would handle their used game and DRM policies.
So yea… Bravo gamers! At the end of the day, the one with the power is the consumer.
el consumidor~
We actually knew almost nothing about Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. until today. And DKC wasn't announced beforehand at all.
No gameplay footage, no official art, hell, not even concept art. The only thing we knew is that they existed.
Something tells me that the real problem here is your standards.
Maybe, but we still knew they were coming. We didn't know anything about them, but even then Smash Bros was the only thing that contained real surprises to me. What we saw of the other games mostly felt predictable to me. Maybe (probably) I'm in the minority on this.
Again, I admit that I feel better about the conference now, and I'll even admit that maybe my standards were a bit high - I don't think by much, but whatever. The games look good, and that's what's important, I suppose.

Are you trying to tell me X doesn't look absolutely amazing?
Oh, it does. But we already saw a trailer for it, so while seeing more was cool, it wasn't much of a surprise.
I think that's my main thing: I wanted to be surprised, and for the most part, I really wasn't. shrug I'm over it now. There's still a lot of cool stuff.
You weren't surprised by Wii Fit Trainer in Smash? :ninja:
Smash had the best surprises from Nintendo for me, so yes, actually. I briefly mentioned it in the Smash Bros thread.
About DK, I don't think 5 islands = 5 worlds. If it's the case, each island will probably be way bigger than a world in DKR.
While I miss K. Rool, I like that they're are creating new enemies. The Walrus Vikings look great.
I'd rather have less surprises and have Nintendo communicate frequently like they're doing right now (thanks to their Nintendo Direct) than being kept in the dark for a year waiting for the announcements at E3 like we used to.
I read that they were considering showing the new Zelda (not WW HD). I guess that means that its release could be closer than I imagined (2014 instead of 2015).
i imagine by show it would be like with skyward sword where they showed one piece of artwork. I still don't see it till 2015 latest

Or you know….BUY A PS4?
So I missed the bulk of e3 thanks to Spike not understanding the contradiction behind calling yourself the offcial broadcaster of e3 and
covering only EA's and Microsoft's buggy conference because well if you want to see all the e3 footage hit up GTTV.com
But hey Nintendo's making Super Mario 3D Land World and DKCR 2
The PS4 will be a $100 less than the Xbox One
And MS….well who gives a shit.
The Xbox One games that were shown off and were demoable at E3 were running on high-spec Windows 7 computers, not actual Xbox One hardware.
Maaan, has anyone been making a list of Microsoft's shit this week?
Pretty much every press/event demo runs on PCs rather than the actual hardware since like 2005

Yes, but they didn't disclose this so seems kinda shaddy. Also first-party Sony titles don't do they? Nintendo as well I don't think do. I could be wrong.
For the press events they usually do. Running them on PC's is pretty much the accepted standard. But Nintendo doesn't even have press events anymore.

All games last year ran on PCs and Square said that their demos, FFXV and KH3, were running in "overspec environments", so most likely PCs. We don't know if the consoles are finalized yet or not and probably aren't so it's not that strange that they'd either be running on PC or unfinished dev kits or something.
Well rather his word is something to be taken for fact or not, Johnathan Blow said all the PS4 stuff was running on PS4 dev kits.

Not only that - he also said that every other developer he knew at E3 was also running games on PS4 dev kits. He said he can't talk for everyone, but from every single developer he knew at E3 all of them were running their games on a PS4 dev kit.
Doesn't sound like Miyamoto was that impressed with the offerings at E3 this year, says there were none he would have wanted to have liked to create himself:
http://mynintendonews.com/2013/06/15/miyamoto-on-e3-i-didnt-see-any-games-i-would-have-liked-to-create-myself/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Besides of course the Nintendo games.
Obviously unless he wanted to create awkwardness like that guy a Respawn Entertainment.
I'm curious how to the people on MyNintendoNews would've responded, if Miyamoto actually DID like one of those games.
@Aru:

It was a very good sign that inFamous: Second Son was confirmed to be running on a PS4 devkit, since that was the most impressive offering.
That said, it's pretty much accepted and traditional for all the E3 games to be running on PC, so this is a non-issue that's distracting consumers from all the far more legitimate reasons to be mocking the XBONE.
does anyone care what miyamoto thinks though, like look at what his contributions to ruining sticker star were
it's like that thing where ringo starr was like "there is no band today I want to make music with" or whatever and people tried to act like that meant anything except "big deal"

Agreed. I respect Miyamoto for his contributions to video games and all that, but when his most recent involvement has led to an awesome Paper Mario game from Intelligent Systems to become an extremely disappointment attempt at another hyper casual Mario offering … then I don't really want him directing other people's games anymore.
At this point I have infinitely more respect for other Nintendo developers, from Iwata who as president took a pay cut to lower the price of the 3DS and make it an extremely desirable commodity, to Sakurai who seems to be working Oda-like hours in order to get as much content as possible in every game he touches so fans can have an equally complete game in two different consoles.
Sakurai is my most respected developer. I don't know what miyamoto did to sticker star but whatever. I think the last game miyamoto wished he'd made not from nintendo was Little Big Planet right?
Miyamoto was just an advisor to Sticker Star? I don't believe he was working on it. Apparently the guys who made it said he told them that they can get away with having a basic story and so they did that. He also did advisor work with the chaps who did Luigi's Mansion 2.
Wasn't Miyamoto the one who specifically told them they could only use the basic Mushroom Kingdom enemies, and the plot has to be as basic as possible? Maybe I misinterpreted everything.
From the article I read it said he told them to try and keep it limited to characters in the Super Mario World. And that there was no need for the plot to be too complicated when it can be more basic.

Intelligent Systems had made the game in the style of the original Paper Mario, with chapters and partners and such. The first pictures they released of the game show this … there was a chain chomp partner and all. Miyamoto played it and said it wasn't fun, and it's pretty much what led them to think up the sticker system and to drop partners, drop chapters and turn an open-world adventure more into a traditional Mario level system.
So in essence Miyamoto led to the game being more Mario than Paper Mario.
It's like there are two Nintendo threads instead of one, lol. Not like there's much to talk about on the MS one besides constant bashing (rightfully deserved)

Hey Racoons can't fly or use their tails as weapons either.

Or turn into stone statues.
But mythical, imagined version of Tanuki =/= Raccoon
As I said, though, half tongue-in-cheek…
^ I'd probably remember the Tanooki suit turning into a statue if the regular ones in 3D Land did that.

I agree about that. Now it's Microsoft's turn to realize how wrong thier approach is.
