I thought Dan Green was the only one?
Rumor has it that ol Ashy boy (V. Taylor) was featured in one.

Well, maybe you shouldn't bring it up until that rumor has been substantiated.
Ok this is what I have to say.
If 4Kids never got it FUNimation would've released it in 2003 or 2004. It would've premiered on Toonami and gotten great ratings right from the get-go, unlike how it bombed on Saturday mornings. Then "Naruto" would've come out, and be the true hit it had been on Toonami in first place. "One Piece" would be pretty popular but to a lesser extent than "Naruto". For those that say that "One Piece" just doesn't have that mass-market appeal on American television, and for those that think that if 4Kids never happened "One Piece" would've become a smash hit, well, I believe it's really somewhere in the middle.
I like this particular prediction.
It would have been canceled anyway since Cartoon Network saw a switch to live-action as their magnum opus (which, looking at the CN schedule now, is completely gone, so yay for that).
As far as the fanbase & online community is concerned, I doubt it'd be as strong. Fanbases tend to grow stronger when shows are at a "cult" status, and a lot of us are here because we gave OP a 2nd chance after watching 4kids and being pleasantly surprised at the original & Funi's dub. I do question how virtuous Viz Media would have been with the OP manga speedup and pushing for Weekly Shonen Alpha to happen, if OP wasn't as beloved by its fanbase as it is now.
sad truth is without 4kids i would not know of one piece.
I can understand why they skipped Little Garden though
What about that arc was so bad that they needed to skip it?
What about that arc was so bad that they needed to skip it?
Mostly violence that would be obnoxious to edit/censor.

The entire giant candle sequence where the crew is basically choking, Brogy cutting down Dorry, Zoro cutting half his ankle off.
The candle scene alone would be pretty hard to edit.

There's also Mr. 5 firing exploding bullets (from a firearm) and Miss Valentine crushing the life out of Usopp by sitting on him.
Then I would not imagine Sanji sounding like a constipated cow.
If 4kids never dubbed one piece, Super Soakers wouldn't have made a killing with all the rainbow colored guns they showed.
As many have stated before.
Sadly….I would most likely have discovered One Piece WAY later on in life if the 4kids dub never existed.
As much as it pains me to say it, I'm glad that they dubbed it. Otherwise my life would suck right now because I One Piece wouldn't be a part of it.
I think the real reason why One Piece is unpopular in the foreign market is because of the "wacky art style" that everyone complains about. Seriously, nine times out of ten, if one of my friends never got into One Piece, it was because of the art style.
The 4kids dub is why I know about op and following its journey from fox to toonami was an amazing ride. I now collect the DVDs and can't wait for season 4 vol 4.
You know what would have been better? If One Piece had landed on KidsWB.
That would've been the same more or less. FOX and KidsWB still face the harsh regulations of the FCC…
KidsWB would require a lot more edits.
Yeah, believe it or not, FOX always had more leniency towards edits than KidsWB.
And to the people who said that they are actually glad 4kids dubbed OP because they were the one's who introduced it to them, I actually thought the the same for a short while.
But then I realized that if 4kids wouldn't have laid their grubby hands on the franchise, we would have had a great Funimation dub off the get-go and it would have aired slightly edited on Toonami in a weekday format like DBZ. In other words, it still would have been introduced to you and me anyway, and it would have been a lot more popular here than it is now.
Que sera, sera, I guess…
What if 4kids had got a hold of Naruto instead of One Piece? What would have happend to One Piece then? Would funimation have picked it up or would they be clammoring to get Nartuo after 4kids edits all the shurikens into flying bunnies?

If 4Kids got "Naruto" there would be an even bigger shit storm than "One Piece". And who knows what would've happened with "One Piece", both series have no bearing on each oher.
Oh God that would have been awful!
I will comment that 4Kids had been looking at both Naruto and (get this) Bleach. Neither happened, obviously.
Bleach!? I remember some whispers about Naruto, but Bleach? Are there any actual sources on that (not that I don't believe you, I'm just shocked).

And thank based God for that.
If 4Kids got their hands on Bleach, it would feel more like the Adventures of Strawberry in Karakura Town than an anime about shinigami.
As for Naruto, what would Kunai and Shuriken end up being, boxing gloves and Beyblades?
I wouldn't be on this forum and I wouldn't know what One Piece is. Thank goodness for 4Kids.

Ugh likewise, I think most people were spoiled by DBZ and anything after had to be all big booms and rapid fights. Probably feeling OP was beneath them once they took a look at it (the 4Kids dub certainly didn't help). I remember before Naruto hit the american airwaves a lot of my friends in college were attracted to it mainly just due to the fights. When I tried to tell them about One Piece, they pretty much dismissed it right off the bat as being "too cartoonish". The off-beat style of the series, the one thing that made One Piece unqiue. was ironically the very thing that turned people off to the series down here. Heck even I admit I wasn't immune to it, when I first started reading the American Shonen Jump, I just only read Yu-Gi-Oh and DBZ (y'know familiarity) and skipped everything else. It wasn't until in one issue I thought I give the other mangas a chance that I started getting into it (from the Buggy Arc, it's still one of my favorites solely for that reason).
But hey to each his own.
I think they could have looked past the artstyle if the 4kids dub hadnt come along and ruined the sole redeeming aspect of the anime: Oda's plot and writing. If the dub had been more faithful and less dumb, it would have been a hit.
But Monogatari! I would not know One Piece without 4kids!
I hate it when people say this, because while 4Kids did introduce some fans to the franchise it also repelled some away FOR GOOD. Like ALL OF Latin America sans fansubbers.

Ill be honest my first exposure to one piece was in fact the FUNimation dub. So i had little knowledge of the horrors that lurked out there. I ended up seeing all the episodes the Funi one piece official could offer and searched for the rest online (don't judge me,i had very little income at the time. And besides i own all the episodes to the current ones out in the states. )
Anyways in my search of more pirate goodness i ended running to a very slightly odd bump, things were not as they once were. Luffy sounded like a boy on helium, ussop as if he was kicked in the crotch, and Sanji ….why??? Turns out i ran into a different dub of the series, and my interest peaked from there. And that's is how i know of the existence of the 4kids dub.
On to my point, the mere fact that such a travesty of a dub was allowed to be made, let alone aired on TV is a crime that should be punishable by death.(I'm merely joking, but you get my point)
I don't blame the actors,as their is little to any choice they had in direction. And i can't really tell you how much better things could have been ,but one thing is for sure,it definitely would have been a lot better off.
Side note: out of pure nostalgia i have recently watched their Pokemon dub,and not even that holds up,their supposed best dub. IMO definitely doesn't hold a candle to the original.
4Kids was how I found out about One Piece. Back in the good old days of waking up, switching on the TV and watch Cheese TV. Back then, I had no problem at all… until I found out about the japanese version.
