I really hope that Luffy will not fight Big mom too soon. I hope this might be something like Alabasta, but not so long. If Strawhats would sail to some Big MOm's Islands after FI and the end up in that Cake Island.

I was really surprised that we got a chapter this year, thought that 651 would be released in january.
So, first of all, i liked that Caribou was oneshotted by Luffy. It basically puts Hody´s strength with the pills in order because he took several of Luffy´s punches with Haki reimbursement whereas a 210 mil guy like Caribou was knocked out instantly. Next, we saw the theme of Big Mum´s pirate crew, basically a food based theme, reminds me personally of the witch in Hansel and Gretel. The thing i wonder about now is whether Luffy is going to put up his flag on Fishman Island immediately or is he going to tell them that they should put up his flag after he has beaten down Big Mum. -

Luffy was so badass this chapter, but am I the only one who thought he was slightly out of character? I'd think it'd make more sense for him to say something like; "Oh one of the Emperors? Then you know Shanks right?" or something like that.
Doesn't make sense for me, why would he say that? Shanks has nothing to do with the situation at hand. There is also no merit just asking because she is one of the 4 emperors. I mean Blackbeard is one of them, do you see Luffy asking him that just because he is a yonkou?
I liked the chapter. Luffy claiming turf, I like that. The old Luffy didn't seem the type to care for that but well here we are.

I mean Oda was throwing us for a loop, first we think theirs no way he's going to resolve this he's obviously picking a fight, then we think well it could be lola's mother and finally he offers treasure and they try and settle it peacefully but Luffy explodes on her. Either way unexpected I can't believe even before entering the new world Luffy made a huge enemy. Wait that actually sounds about right.

Luffy declared Fishman Island was under his protection several chapters ago, while beating the crap out of Hodi and Noah.
This just makes it official.
Not a huge shock, we knew Luffy was going to declare the island his when we first heard Jinbe say that Whitebeard declared it under his protection, we just didn't know what the specifics would be.

First of all, let me just say…..the colorspread was awesome.
Second, the hits keep coming?! Good to see Caribou's really knocked out (jeez, Luffy and co got tons of treasure), and the Big Mam minions, Pekoms and Baron.....they look pretty cool. But dear god, the page with Big Mam in the shadows was actually really creepy. (wait, does she have a girl with three eyes in her crew?)
Luffy made the chapter here, especially when he grabbed the Den Den Mushi to talk to Big Mam (her minions' faces were priceless) and boldly told her he was going to kick her ass and claim Fishman Island as his own.
Great chapter to finish off 2011.

Baron Tamago has the best design but i liked Peksom "pure" eyes i really laughed.The casual picking the phone that wasnt for him was really funny and yes luffy has big balls no wonder they shine.Hmm i wonder if there other tribes of long-insert body part :ninja:.

When Luffy first found out the island was under the protection of a Yonkou he made the connection to Shanks, so it's not entirely unheard of. It was more that he was more concerned with getting pissed off that he didn't mention Shanks because he was yelling at her for something else.

I don't think Luffy can fuck with a yonkou but I guarantee if he brings one of his allies like Boa Hancock than he could at least compete with the crew and maybe the firstmate/second strongest. Also nobody's even noticed that Kidd is currently going up against the same person.

at first i thought jimbei would stay behind and guard fishman island because luffy's name was still not powerful enough but i don't know anymore. wouldn't jimbei joining luffy's crew only make his name bigger? i think luffy having an ex warlord on his crew would strike fear in many pirates. adding an ex warlord and picking a fight with an emperor? word of this would spread big time and luffy's name would only grow more. add that he is dragon son and not many pirates on the grandline will want to mess with fishman island when they cross over.

Don't get Luffy wrong. He just took the situation out of Big Mam's hands. He had no other choice. Defeat Big Mam and let FI be overrunned by pirates or let Big Mam continue to harass FI. How is Jenbe going to react to this. Most likely this will cause him to join Luffy to help fight Big mam.

Mhh Big Mum seems to be kind of crazy, so the theory that Lola is her daughter...mhh at least she seems big enough to be it.The designs of the girl with the three eyes and the Baron i rly like...rest isn`t that compelling for me, but they are just the first wave.
Iam somehow glad that their confrontation is for the NW, but i wonder if this party Big Mum talks about is something she is doing all the time or something special(maybe even realted to the meeting of the kings?)

i for one am glad that luffy made big mom his enemy. i want kaidou to be an enemy as well. shanks should be the only one that luffy would be an ally of. remember that the remnants of the whitebeard pirates would likely help luffy so he already has too many friends and doesn't need another emperor on top of it. kidd and luffy will team up and take down big mom in the future? add law into the mix and i would fangasm seeing all their crews teaming up and taking down big mom.

Baron Tomago (by personality, not design) reminds me of Sol from Fairy Tail, though (speaking French with English (Japanese)). I still think she could be Lola's mom despite her size... Lola wasn't exactly a small woman. Nowhere near that big, obviously, but still very large. Although, in all likelihood, there was a pirate during the War that looked almost identical to Lola, down to having a bowler hat, named Elmy. It's possible if Big Mom isn't her mother, then Elmy is.

Regardless, I don't think even Nami can diffuse that situation at this point if she is Lola's mother. Big Mom and Luffy are going to butt heads… I just hope that it's not a repeat of the Wapol vs. Luffy situation... Wapol couldn't eat Luffy because he was too chewy, but Big Mom can't have similar powers...
So here's a suggestion: Big Mom mentions stomach acid and drools a lot. Maybe unlike Wapol, who has the Munch Munch fruit, she has a fruit that allows her to dissolve things... a stomach acid fruit or something like that. That would work against Luffy, since it's not trying to chew him up, but rather simply dissolving him.
Also, when she opens her mouth to eat her subordinate, smoke or gas comes out of it. That's a good indication she has some kind of acid DF.

No, we have a good number of hints. She drools a lot, she mentions stomach acid, and when she opens her mouth to eat her subordinate, we see smoke or gas come out of her mouth. Those all are good hints from Oda.

its probably an acid logia. for her to be an emperor she has to have some broken ass power. i don't think we've seen a girl fighter in one piece that was powerful and didn't use a devil fruit so shanks seems to be the only emperor that doesn't have a devil fruit.

Well not that weak since apart from Whitebeard I doubt the other have that much difference in power levels but I think the primary source of her power might be her Devil Fruit and not any strength or skill she has(kinda like Moria but much more powerful ability). And I wouldn't be surprised if her crew is similar to Shanks. A small compact crew of powerful fighters travelling with her at all times. This would make sense if Strawhats are to fight them and also would explain why Kidd manged to sink two of their ships and this actually hurt them(if her crew is like Shanks then those working for her could be simple low rated pirates who simply gather tribute rather then powerful commanders in their own right like with Whitebeard)
In any case I really rally want to see this fight. And I would so love if we don't get a huge filler and get to the actual war in just 10-15 chapters

I had this weird feeling that Big Mam had the ability to turn any object or living things into "food"…And first time we saw Pekoms and his eyes, kinda reminds me of Bepo, maybe Pekoms had any connection to him?And love Tamago, I believe he is the first 'Long Leg' character to appear in One Piece since his tribe is mentioned/listed in the Auction list in Sabaody Arc.

That's like saying we knew Shurohige's power because he used a bisento. I mean she still has haki no doubt a tremendous amount of physical strength and judging by her size she may be the fastest OP charcter since Lucky roux.

heh i would prefer luffy going to some island controlled by kaidou and then making an enemy of him too. i highly doubt luffy goes to the new world and right off the bat goes to battle her. he will eventually cross paths but that's after a while. no way it will go exactly like we think it will.

Good design choice. Thriller Bark part 2 albeit in a opposite direction. Spirited Away is close.It could still happen that she becomes his ally. When you look at this picture here (middle picture at the bottom) you can see that Big Mam's lipstick (or its form) slightly resembles Lola's.
Yes, definitely Lola's mom and her vivre card will have a role after their fight I guess.

I guess Oda's speed up the pace, which is good. No time to rest for the Strawhats and if Hody and the power-upped gangs aren't SHP worthy opponents, Yonkou pirates will be. This chapter leave us more questions than answers which is good for the forum.

Last time I checked he barely hurt the admirals and the admirals can take island splitting attacks and live. I think it's safe to say that he'd lose to an admiral. Since he did lose to Kizaru. Don't say he didn't because keeping you concentration is part of battling too. He's around Jozu's level and Jozu lost to Kuzan.

Marco causes massive explosions with a simple kick he can tank Kizaru's multi block destroying attack and smile. I don't think he'd lose to Luffy just yet. In fact i think he would destroy Luffy. It's my opinion but I have feats to go along with my assumption.
Lets not get ahead of ourselves I know Luffy will come out on top but lets be honest he doesn't stand a chance againts marco, and admiral or a yonkou just yet. I mean he just got severly hurt by Hody and impressive as Hody was I think that Marco an admiral and a yonkou would be far more challenging.

I got a lough at the random thought of the citizens that thought Pekson was cute when he threatens people. That picking up the denden mushi reminds me of when he picked it up on the marine ship on the way to Marineford and got yelled at for answering it.

That would be one way to cement the idea of FI under Luffy's control in the random pirate's minds, esp the newbies that are just entering the New World. Now there's an idea, Lola's mom could be Elmy. I would like that better than if its Big Mam.
But on whether shomach acid works on Luffy… there is no guaratee that's true or if true how fast it would affect him. I remember a common thoguht that it takes a long time for bubble gum (made of rubber tree extract as oppose to artifical created) to dissolve (some say up 7 years) in the stomach. Back in ID, after Mr.3's wax was able to hold back most of Magellen's poison (except Hydra I think) Crocodile mentions that its difficult to guess how some DFs can counter each other. But I would not be surprised Luffy's Rubber is difficult to dissolve. -
