@Cyan:
So yeah I read a chapter of Fairy Tail a year ago and then stared at a wall angrily for five hours and I'm considering trying again
Funny, I came here to post the same question. I read a bunch until the time the boss stepped down. And something about a small cat with super powers and an alternate universe. Kinda lost track of the show. Did it continue to be good or even get better?
If you're not already caught up at this point, I'd say there's no real value in reading the rest except to make fun of it… but FT did do pretty well when it wasn't in plot mode during the two triple releases. It was mostly slice-of-life, which I feel was early-FT's strength.
(I think the triple releases were around 338)
What about bishi guy Jellal then?
Well he clearly attracts breasts to him, so he gets a pass.

literally everything about this last page is horrible
this dumb asshole's reappearance, Lucy's 'pants,' that caption, that shot of her breasts, that final commentif Mashima did Robin's "I wanna live" scene it wouldn't be a shot of her weeping face; it would just portray her huge F cup breasts covered in hot slimy tears. Caption: I wanna live!!!… in those breasts!" - Fairy Tail by Hiro Mashima
dude spot on, after seeing page 23, that's what I kinda felt Hiro was portraying, something like… I No you don't like me but, pretty plzz forgive me look at my boobs, I will let touch and squeeze them (with a big sad glare). @No Maam what was your first reaction when you saw that page.:ninja:
Fairy Tail 347؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟
The magazine is on break this week.
Oh thank god. There's no nightmare to witness this week.
LOL as if you're forced to read this crap.
Sadly the break also means there's no Magi either.

You're mixing up Shonen Sunday with Weekly Shonen Magazine

Ugh happens all the time. But apparently both magazines are on break since none of the two series has a chapter this week (might be due to the Obon festival).
FUNimation announced they have the license to all the current episodes of the series (up to 175). So yeah, there's that.
Just started reading Rave Master again (currently on chapter 103), Mashima doesn't disappoint with Rave. Rave always makes me laugh and actually holds my interest story-wise. Sadly it seems like Fairy Tail is a step-down according to you guys (I haven't read FT yet).
i've never read rave but the consensus seems to be that that sucks ass too
Rave really isn't anything special, just a lot of fun in my opinion.

Rather than a step down, it's more like a deadly fall down the stairs.

Rave to me isn't anywhere as bad as FT is in it's recycled regurgitated nature. This is of course the case only if you've developed to the point as a comic reader where you don't constantly complain about fan service each and every time you see it.
"I've never read it, but" is probably the worst way to start a comment.
Anyway, for me Rave was an overall decent manga: some good stuff, some bad stuff, but a manga you can read without shaking your head every minute… and forget almost everything, once finished. Put another way, you can read it to kill some time, as long as you don't expect world-shaking truths from it.
Fairy Tail could have been interesting, at the beginning, but it went downhill pretty quick. Now I'm just tagging along with it, out of sheer curiosity: how bad can this manga end? This is what I want to find out.
"I've never read it, but" is probably the worst way to start a comment.
Next to "I hate it, I dont care about it anymore, but…" followed by daily side-long comments and analyses.
Yes, I'm looking at you, Naruto/Bleach thread.
I have a bit of a confession to make:
when Bonney posted on the previous page, I had this momet of genuine dread that a new chapter was released and felt actual relief that it wasn't.
I think that's a clear sign, but I'm gonna ignore it anyway.

i'd like to offer some good luck to those who will continue reading the series
! fuck you hiro mashima
why the FUCK did Lucy and co. respond "What are you guys, idiots?" when the bad guys said "dumb women should shake asses for us lol!!!"
what kind of warped, fucked up irony is that? does Mashima SERIOUSLY not get that that is precisely what he does with ALL his women characters? in their most heartbreaking, depressing moments there is ALWAYS a close up of jiggling boobs or ass. give me a fucking break. in some sort of bizarre testament to that, mashima of course can't but help to have sexy maid girl no. 12 shake her ass as if some sort of reminder that "don't worry guys!!! women are still here to ogle. don't sweat it!!" I can deal with fan service, but this sort of twisted meta bullshit is utter trash. i'm done with this series for good.

Well isn't that amazingly convenient.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Okay I will admit this wasn't terrible.
Mind you that's still incredibly convenient writing but…..hey, at least Lucy actualy managed to actualy win something for the first time in like a year.

Actually, Mashima already gave us a hint that the girl is from the giant village… last year i believe..
it wasn't terrbile this time..only problem being the fact that the redhead is now from a village of giants, but whatever
i know the "ae you idiots" part was hypocritical at best…but the alternative being another beating taken by Lucy and wendy,i'm ok with it.

What ? Where ?

What ? Where ?
From One Piece Episode 575 …:ninja:
What is Leon/Loki's power again? I really like how everyone one of Lucy's summons has a specific purpose but I still don't know what Leon/Loki's is besides looking cool and being convenient.
It was a pretty cool chapter but did Mashima really have to make the treasure hunters outright dicks with the whole "women are only good for shaking their asses" line.
If Flare had been hiding that tattoo since her debut in the series its safe to say Mashima had made it up on the spot. As for the whole shallow faux outrage at characters being sexist its a bit hamfisted at this point.
I mean this isn't like jeff jarret level or anything

I'm not outraged at the characters themselves being sexist. I'm more questioning the meaning of this particular scene. I fail to bat an eye when I see Mashima's excessive fanservice, just because I've sort of grown used to it.
This isn't really fanservice in his normal vein though. He portrays the characters in his scene as powerful women while simultaneously fulfilling the demands of the sexist characters. What is Mashima really trying to convey there? It seems a real step up from the normal, fairly innocuous fan service you'd find in a manga like Fairy Tail.
I think it was supposed to be joke on Virgo's character and how she wants to please everyone. Clumsily it subverted the message the whole situation was supposed to convey.
It could've been worse really. That was the first chapter in a while I enjoyed reading and that's all I can ask for in FT's case. Is Hiro-chan a sexist? Sure, but that's old news anyway.
it being old news really has nothing to do with it. what else is even worth discussing with the chapter?
at the end of the day Mashima proves himself time and time again to be a royal dickhead and that's really the only thing that can ever be sought within a chapter of Fairy Tail as far as I'm concerned. the series is at the point where even if a chapter is "decent" it can only be decent within context; the context is so muddied and horrid at this point that the series is genuiney incapable of producing anything good. reread the last 20 chapters or so with this included. try and tell me it isn't sour.
It's kinda sad there isn't anyone here writing a tutorial that would reveal how can one enjoy an incredibally boring manga. Even the friends I had on Skype that liked riffing the chapters along with myself got bored of talking over something so bland. I even got bored reading the reactions this topic seeing that it's always the same, and there's usually nothing much to discuss aside from "well, I enjoyed it depspite Mashima's incompetance and blahblahblahrubbish". It's like walking into a desert filled with elderly men that have nothing to talk about but sand and the extravagant wonders of eating sand.

And with that post, my dear Hiroy, you've joined the club of old, sand-loving men. May I offer you a cup of fresh sand?
would anyone here recommend Kingdom

I'll have the sand flavored cup of sand, please.
With additional sand.
Bucephalus is right. Mashima is trying to present a women empowerment theme when his female characters amount to nothing more than sluts. Yeah, I went and said it, I'm not going to be kind. They're nothing more than prostitutes to fulfill male fantasies. And I'm not going to preach like this doesn't happen in a lot of other shonen, One Piece included, but the key difference is in other series, those characters are worth more than just flesh bots to wiggle their asses to the male readers. Hell, the entire point of this whole Flare subplot is for Mashima to fill another niche of female stereotypes to widen his appeal to his male demographic, nothing more or less. Mashima is trying to empower women with characters that belong in a hentai series. And frankly, it's insulting.
!
!
Fuck you Mashima.
I didn't need to see that stupid page again.
probably my one and only post for this thread but-
@Thousand:
!
Yeah, I think the girl going "teehee, i'll do it anyways <3" just contradicts the whole message to begin with.

You and others are going off on a sexist tangent yourself imo
The crux of your argument is that the women in the manga are demeaned by sexist verbage but they themselves are seemingly cast in in a negative light by Mashima and warrant those comments by being drawn sexy.
So no I don't think the sexist message is at all hindered its the same pig headed idiots heckling women no matter how they dress or carry themselves after all.

But I don't think I have the right to rant unless I actually read it. And I really don't have the interest to do so…..

Don't make the same mistake that i did because when i started i knew before hand it was a trainwreck what i wasn't expecting is that would into the road taking every cars that was on its way until it reach the airport fuel trucks garage and still hasn't stopped.
Read magi instead. :D
When did Wndy hop aboard the Magic Kung-Fu train? That's what I got out of this chapter.
I was realy laughing at these clowns all the time because if they came face to face with an actualy powerfull, competent dark mage, well, things would have gotten ugly.
Of course in reality nothing like this exists in FT, but I'm talking about those times we're supposed to believe they do, right before the rookies of Fairy Tail beat them.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Now that is a fine suggestion.
IF you can survive a particular bit during the end of the Belbad arc, which I hope to be rectified when the obviously evil Empire gets taken down.
