Shirahoshi wouldn't need to join, the sea kings could easily protect her at fisherman island
Chapter 649: "The Bream and Flounder Dance"- Discussion
-
-
I'm sorry, I dont MEAN to be mean BUT , That sentence almost made me puke
It made me laugh actually.Very silly sentence indeed
-
OMG Laughing my ass off right now. Only on like page 5 or something, but found it just hilarious that Zoro basically said the exact same thing as Luffy only in reference to Alcohol instead of Food.
Well time to continue reading
-
-
Never thought I would quote someone for my signature, but yea… this chapter's discussions are gold.
-
Wow! Oda kinda let Jinbe joined but later, such a Vivi twist!! That's what I love about him! Throwing me all these surprises!!
LOVE ROBIN panels!! SO AWESOME!!!!!!!
And everyone gets to be HAPPY!! I never felt this happy about a One Piece chapter in a LONG LONG TIME!!
-
How many people are gonna say vivi is pluto now
her ability is to say stop fighting, and then if a man is hit thousands of feet into the air from underground and it starts to rain just after that then everyone will stop fighting, it's a very particular but useful power

Just read MS's version…
MS trans is definitely more accurate and it doesn't have the blatant mistakes that MR does (and the guy understands the language and culture better) but like last week, MR's dialogue feels more natural (but that's often the difficulty of translating: the tradeoff between accuracy and that natural feeling. Definitely an art- not a science). Both names Pluton (Plouton) and Poseidon are Greek. Pluton is another GREEK name for Hades . "Pluto" is the latinization of the name Pluton. So he's no Roman counter part to anything.
According to myth, Plouton and his brothers Zeus and Poseidon defeated the Titans and claimed rulership over the world , ruling the underworld, heaven , and sea, respectively. So the remaining god of the trio is Zeus himself, though Oda could choose whatever he wants if necessary.
This. I brought this up a bit in the spoiler thread, but… imo there's no need to go into other cultures' mythologies to speculate on what will probably be the third and final weapon. Pluton and Poseidon are both Greek, and the Greek God brother trio seems perfect. Now we know that Poseidon is, appropriately, nautically-themed, and Pluton's location being somewhere buried in Alabasta also fits the "land" theme. Sorry- I know that many people find largely-baseless speculation to be super annoying, and I usually don't indulge in it, but this just feels right.
-
Ah, so the hypothetical Zeus could be an airship. Like the Maxim, but on steroids.
-
Or maybe Zeus could be a sky island with something special about it – some internal natural aspect, or science providing the floating land with propulsion or weaponry. And if it's a flying cloud, it could perhaps throw thunderbolts at the ground and attacking vessels...
-
So basically Laputa.
-
I'm sorry, I dont MEAN to be mean BUT , That sentence almost made me puke
When I came up with that I tought it sounded so cheesy I could die… Puking is not that bad.
-
Ah so that's how come Robin knew that there was a poneglyph on Fishman island. I recall back after Arabasta she had no desire to live really since she knew of no more poneglyphs. Which fishman island kind of contradicted that by her going there right away to read it. But then seeing how the poneglyph on skypiea mentioned poseidon and its location being fishman island. She must have figured there would be another one at fishman island.
Wonder what the one at fishman island said, and location it pointed her too now.
-
LOL @ everybody thinking this arc is "strating over". We're right about at Thriller Bark length. The arc is done…
Segueing into Reverie on the other hand is absolutely possible.
-
That awkward moment when the Straw Hats invite Hachi and Camie to a party but leave Den in the Sea Forest.
-
I do not understand why people think weakhoshi will join? She's freaking way to big. She'd have to swim along side them. Not to mention, she hasn't been training for the last 2 years. She would be a total failure as a Straw hat.
-
Oh great, now everyone's gonna be saying that everybody from Blackbeard to Usopp is a goddamn ancient weapon. Thanks Oda, for having such faith that your fans will think intelligently about your twists.
Usopp's an ancient weapon? But of course, if Shirahoshi has her army of sea kings, Usopp has his land army of 8million followers!
-
Such a fun and exciting chapter! I am so damn happy right now.
And I just love how much this arc contributes to the world history plot.
@CCC:
Zoro: "A hero is the kind of person who'd hand out all of your booze."
"I just want to drink it myself!"The best line.
@ultimateclima:
Loved Zoro mimicking Luffy's hero explanation.
Zoro wasn't around when Luffy was talking about this concept at Sea Forest. So, he's not mimicking nothing. It's just that both Luffy and Zoro think the damn same way.
-
Mimicking is not the right word, but yeah it's funny they think the damn say way.
-
Okay. This could work. Jinbe's been to the New World before and Oda wants an all n00b crew in the beginning. Can see Jinbe joining halfway through the NW.
Jinbei needs to take a dump first.
Then we get a flashback about how the Fishman Pirates couldn't deal with his shit, literally.
That awkward moment when the Straw Hats invite Hachi and Camie to a party but leave Den in the Sea Forest.
Franky should've invited him. Jerk.:ninja:

It comes out pretty well usually.
Finally a week where MS isn't actually that bad. Now if they could just keep that level of quality. Though, I admit I would be bored on the forums if they improved enough that they didn't need frequent corrections.
Oh, I realized I haven't commented on the actual chapter so far, besides among the flurry in the spoilers thread. So…
A mysteriously enchanting chapter to follow an otherwise anticlimatic resolution to the battles. However, the flow of the ending narration last chapter really bolsters the emotions for celebration in this one. Other than the twist on the last page, I predicted this chapter rather thoroughly.
Oh, Oda-san, you tease. Now all your readers are impatient to hear the smooth Swing Jazz Orchestra and Maria Napole's gorgeous voice. [/chewsonshirt]
-
I loved this chapter, especially the Robin reveal. It was also very good to see the Strawhats partying again - I really missed that in the last few years!

No no. Oda-san is a tease AND a genius. He's caught on to the fact Toei does a pretty damn decent job on the music department, from background music to the character songs Brook throws out, and now he's milking it to have them make more songs for us!
Also, this is not the only musical touch in fishman island so far. Remember the Princes which also have a bit of a musical note to their speech? I suspect there is some sort of shallow connection to the concept of sirens in here, but I think Oda will show us more in due time. (Or at least I hope he will!)
-
Really not understanding why people are saying Jinbe saying "yes but later" ruins everything about this chapter (especially the party? How does that have an effect on it?).
-
Calling it now. Eneru is the Zeus in this equation.
-
I still think Jinbe's "duty" is that he is still the captain of the Sun Pirates and temporarily left that post when he became a Shichibukai. This deal would let Aladdin and the other Sun Pirates to stay in FI safely, however after Jinbe revoked his Shichibukai status, Aladdin and the others left FI and went in hiding. Before Jinbe join Luffy's crew, he needs to bring Aladdin and his other nakamas back to stay in FI safely once again. I can see Jinbe and the Sun Pirates reunite to aid Luffy in another arc.
-
That awkward moment when the Straw Hats invite Hachi and Camie to a party but leave Den in the Sea Forest.
Isn't he coating the ship?
-
I had a bit of a theory where I posted in "Last Two Nakama" where I think maybe Jinbe and his ex-crew are not on speaking terms after Jinbe continued to be a Shichibukai after Queen Otohime's assassination by a human (supposedly). To them, combining the death of Fisher Tiger and now with Otohime, it must feel like a betrayal that Jinbe continued to be "loyal" to humans. Maybe he tried to speak to them to help in the fight with Hody but they refused.
-
Calling it now. Eneru is the Zeus in this equation.
how does that work, he just ate a devil fruit, so now ace is Prometheus?? how about eneru is on the moon where the ancient civilization used to be, so zeus the last major weapon is there (since that used to be there home), and he's the only one who can use it since it requires so much electricity that you normally can't generate
-
Hi guys, I know this is not part of the manga, but does anyone have the picture of part 3 of the strawhats as toy animals in this JUMP issue?(e.g luffy-monkey, chopper-racoon, zoro-tiger).
Amyways, I am thinking theres still more to Fishman Island with Caribou and the Navigation thing the crew needs to go to the NW.
-
Wasn't Zeus' power lightning? Haven't we seen something that sends lightning constantly down… onto an island...?
-

And yet Luffy had them pay for the party at Water 7 where they shared meat and sake.

Her being too big to fit Merry isn't the problem. Her being helpless on land is. She would be unable to join the SH on their adventures on land. All she could do is be around for naval battles and that's boring. Unless she grows a pair of legs I don't see her joining.

I like this one. I can now imagine Eneru coming back as Luffy's b!tch.

True, the main problem is that Merry is burnt and its remains are now on the ocean bottom.
You meant she doesn't fit on the Sunny. And personally she souldn't be too much help on land or water, she can't call sea kings for every battle, that would be overkill. We already saw that Oda doesn't use the big stuff too often= Whitebeard didn't use haki to make the marines faint during the war. It would have been overkill and endanger his own men, as we seen some did faint when Luffy instinctively used his haki.
-
THe revealing of Shirahoshi's other name makes me all happy and giddy and my hand just got better so fanart is a go. also I was a gleefull over Robin because the awesome archaeologist that she is.
-
That's part 2. I am also interested if there is a part 3. :)
-

No. Nothing beyond that, yet.
-
Pretty good ending. I want to read the next chapter. Also, do they break for the holidays?
-
-
Camie hugging Usopp. XD Lucky guy.
I thought it was hysterical when Neptune thought Robin was coming onto him.
Wow, the ending. o: Just…wow.
I feel too lazy to type more and in complete sentence. ^^; -
Really not understanding why people are saying Jinbe saying "yes but later" ruins everything about this chapter (especially the party? How does that have an effect on it?).
not a bad solution..have Jimbe join them halfway in the New World where even he hasnt explored before, hence resolving the problem of "oh been there done that"
-
Where's part 1?
-
Can't wait to see what this duty is of Jinbe's. Would be awesome if it ties into the dojo, but we'll know in the next chapter or so.
-
:wassat: It seems that after the time skip Zoro behaves in similar ways to Luffy… I thought that after being trained by Mihawk he would be more "adult", like Robin, but no, he has now the same childish reasoning like Luffy.
Nice chapter, with the great revelation of Poseidon in the last page.
And following the speculation about the last Ancient Weapon, maybe "Zeus" (if Oda uses that name) is the "One Piece". I remember Whitebeard last words and Sengoku reaction (i think his face expressed fear)

Didn't Sengoku react like that because he knew Whitebeard's words would have a similar effect as Roger's did at his execution?

Right. Sunny, not Merry.
Actually we learnt that one can choose who is affected by Haoushoku haki. So there is no real explanation why Whitebeard didn't use it.
-
Camie hugging Usopp. XD Lucky guy.
Yeah, Usopp is the official womanizer of the crew.
-

Well, actually out of the cons against her joining. Her helplessness on land isn't the main issue, Oda has already introduced a solution to this. The Urashimataro Casket, u really think Oda mentioned that TWICE for nothing?
Her size, well I can only come up with a guess that maybe she shrinks as she age
Her main issue, as someone stated. Is in regard of her fighting abilities. She's either helpless or an island-wrecking monster. There's no in-between in her. And there isn't an instant solution to this. (I was thinking she might fight using her pet, but Megalo also can't live on land, more so than Shira herself)

There are more cons than that… but already told them.

Yeah. I know, but most of them has a certain "instant solution", albeit some are pure speculation. While that lack of "basic fighting ability" of her doesn't
-
So tell em the solution of Neptune and the princes, who try to make an petition at the WG answering the question… "Why the fuck your daughter is sailing with one of the worst criminals around the world?" ...
