liked the chapter ,I was thinking since it's color/colour of armaments or however you spell it what if different colours are different powers like the possible blue elephant gun is harden , then red hawk/hook is fire/explosions

the elephant gun hasn't been referred to as blue afaik. It looks as if the arm is jet black in both cases, the reason why it is called red hawk in this situation is partially for japanese naming reasons I don't understand and also because of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruger_Redhawk
elephant gun and snake shot are real things too. -
Great chapter. The story is progressing in a good way.
The best part of the chapter by far was Hody's facefault in the second-to-last panel.
-
I don't usually do this but..
! @asm00200:
! > Lol, Hody is gonna go kaboom right now.
! I FUCKING CALLED IIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT!!!!
AHAHAHAHAHA And no Oda, going back to zero isn't enough. You need to erase zero and go back to nothing. Haven't you played metal gear? -
The masked, torch weilding NFP reminded me of the KKK.
-
16 characters of speechlessness.
That was an amazing chapter.
-
Good chapter, it certainly has more "feeling" than the late ones.
But I really hope this is the end for Hody. Please Oda, no more Hody, he is such a retarded character.
-
Well, Hodi is supposed to be that way, if that helps.
-
Was totally amazing! should have said the attack is its written tho I think, Hiken pistol. Interested wether the kanji is tomodachi or nakama when hes talking to the Prince about being friends. Might have a new candidate to join ;D.
-
One piece, where fire is created in the ocean.
They were inside the bubble when luffy attacked hody that's why his attack was (finally) so powerful.
Jimbei survived being punched through so there is precedence of a fishman surviving a hole in the chest .
Nope akainu didn't punch through Jimbei
And I'm still not sure if luffy did really punch through Hody, the explosion we see might just be some sort of impact explosion thing. But it'd be cool if he really did impale him.
-

elephant gun and snake shot are real things too.okay I only say elephant gun could be blue because it's blue in gigant battle 2

Maybe, though i have a feeling he'll go the way of the other royalty-based SH "nakama" from a while back. Jinbei still seems like the most logical candidate to me, in that he can actually fight on the SH's level and has far more character development than the prince does.
-
Fishman ILLUMINATI GANG…
Oda is a politician, isn't he? ;)
Very tight chapter. Luffy's new attack is just EPIC... reminds me of the pure justice blow (: aka AKAINU. + Underwater :D its too BADASS.
Cheers UP!
-
I'd love to see a jet gatling version of this move, maybe a red hawk flock?
-
Are you guys sure they were inside of Noah's bubble of air? Isn't Hody swimming toward Luffy…? And Shirahoshi swimming with Luffy...? And Luffy is still in his own bubble, while I can't see one on Hody. What exactly visually indicates they went inside it?
-
I fking hope this is the last chapter of this saga…..how long does it take for one fking ship to crash. Its been the same sort of sh*t the past 5 chapters, lets hope this noah saga will end in the next chapter.

well going through highly pressurised water and at the vast scale's we are talking about I'd imagine it would probably take quite a while
-
Oda has done a great job with Hody Jones. His character has been drawn out by this flashback. To see how hatred starts, and the Queen's words of, "Don't let the children see," is really coming to life this chapter. Oda has shown why he is head and shoulders above his fellow writers. Too bad this concept will go over a lot of people head because this arc is not "action pack." This arc has been one of the best Oda has written in along time. I don't know how Oda does it.
I don't believe Luffy killed Hody. It would never go past the publishers, and Oda would not go against his words. I seen Pell get blown up, Decken stab, Zoro get his chest slashed open, and WB take everything. Hody is going to survive. If he does not thsn I will be shocked!!!
-
Oooo sounds like sh**'s about to get real. Can't wait for next chapter.
-
That fire thing is either a haki-based-move like Marigold did (Boa sisters), or Luffy made an extra-hot G2-move.
I prefer the latter one tbh.Or he punched so fast his fist became like a shuttle or meteor on entering. Its not actually catching on fire nor heating himself up, its friction.
Nope akainu didn't punch through Jimbei
Yes he did.

"We pretended not to see this warped grudge … we were busy worrying about progress."
Rereading this chapter, I can't help but be amazed not only by the pitch-perfect pacing (especially with the flashbacks) – but also by the writing. Fukaboshi's narration is the highlight of this chapter for me, and I haven't even dug up Aohige's translation from the spoiler section yet -- but when I do that, I'm sure will make the words even more resonant. Looking forward to Stephen's translation as well.
according to Aohige it should be Red Hawk, not hook
Nice. Where I live, there's a large number of red-shouldered and red-tailed hawks, and I once had the opportunity to see a red-shoulder kill and eat a mouse from only a few feet away. It was an intense, bloody experience that I won't forget any time soon. Luffy's new move is well-named.
It feels like the story is really moving now.
Agreed. We're on solid ground finally, and it hasn't been this firm since before the time-skip.
I'm finally looking forward again to future chapters with the same impatience I had just before the timeskip.I'm not sure how well the KKK comparison works though.. FishandMer folks are very much oppressed in very obvious ways by the people they're hating. It's hard to argue the same for the KKK, especially in the beginning of their existance.
Good point.
Wow, when I started reading OP I sure as hell wasn't expecting something this profound from a shonen manga.
Agreed.
To Oda's credit, OP has had many more moments of depth and thoughtfulness in past arcs than many other shonen manga – but this chapter is at a different level entirely.and there is a type of gun called redhawk, we could speculate his new attacks by working out other weapons with animal based names :P.
Ah! thanks for enlightening us about the redhawk gun. That's pretty funny. So it looks like this will be similar to Zoro's habit of naming his attacks after sushi.
Wow, I kinda hope that's the end for Hodi cause that would make for a great climax to the fight! Better still, it was preceded by a nice flashback. I liked the look into Hodi's character. He's a pitiful bastard, but it's nice to see that how he came to be that way.
I agree – this would be the perfect moment to make Hodi finally go away. (and I'm not saying that simply because I've been saying that for the last, oh, ten chapters or so,:ninja: -- I'm saying it now because I truly agree with you onemoment: that this feels like the perfect time, story-wise, plot-wise, emotion-wise, etc, to have Hodi say goodbye.

Are you guys sure they were inside of Noah's bubble of air? Isn't Hody swimming toward Luffy…? And Shirahoshi swimming with Luffy...? And Luffy is still in his own bubble, while I can't see one on Hody. What exactly visually indicates they went inside it?
Ohm, no I guess I'm not a 100% sure, I mostly figured for two reasons
-
The time spent in the chapter focusing on the fact that the bubble was up
-
Luffy being able to launch such a strong attack.
I mean luffy is strong, but underwater his strength dwindles + movement slows down for non fishman beings in water.
-
-
looking at the last spread its pretty obvious that Luffys still inside his small bubble, outside of Noah. Shirahoshi lets the bubble go, Hody swims towards Luffy, no one goes inside Noah.
And for that very reason I doubt this is the end - getting a bubble around the ship would be mighty pointless if Luffy beat Hody without using it, since it was created entirely for his sake. -
Holy shit!
That flashback was going on some real deep emotional levels. Is Hody dead?
Cause I'm pretty sure there's a huge gaping hole in his chest after that.
And goddammit, Mangastream. You keep fucking up translations.
-
Akainu punched through Jimbei but only through his arm according to Oda. It's a bit difficult to make out exactly where it went through from the manga panel so I thought I'd mention that. Unless it's a mistranslation?

- Luffy being able to launch such a strong attack.

Well this was the first time he used G2 and Haki at the same time which Oda highlighted in a pretty major way. I think that's more likely to be the reason for the attack's strength than getting out of the water. Also, I'm not sure but don't the air bubbles go away when something wearing them passes through another, larger bubble? Like when the Sunny broke into Fishman Island? Unless I'm misremembering that's pretty conclusive evidence they were still in the water.
-
Nope akainu didn't punch through Jimbei
Not only did Akainu punch through Jinbe's arm, he also punched through Luffy. That's the only reason that Luffy survived, combined with Law showing up to give him some major surgery work. Hence, why he has the huge scar on his chest. We haven't seen Jinbe with his shirt off post-timeskip, but I can guarantee his shoulder has a nice scar on it, too.
As for the punch Luffy just landed on Hody, at the end of the day, Luffy is still a Paramecia and is still rubber. Adding fire would just be the same as Sanji's Diablo Jambe. It's gonna burn like hell, but it's still an impact and not a piercing attack.
-
This would be a great end to Luffy VS Hodi but that won't happen until the other Strawhats finish their fights.
-
Wouldn't Hodi dying just completely disregard the entire "lesson" of this arc? Hodi being punched through the midsection by a superfast, exploding fist surely wouldn't be good for the children to see. Especially after the flashback of this chapter, the random citizens of the Fishman District would just stretch the story and make it look like cruelty to the next, younger generation.
Also, with each chapter, it is looking more and more like the E.S.'s are the box of aging that Decken wanted access to in the palace. I am really starting to wish I posted that theory when Decken first mentioned it. It all fits since he got the E.S.'s while he was in the army and he would have needed to be in the army to get into the palace where the "Legendary" artifact was.
-

Right sorry, my mistake! I was focusing on another incident.
I guess the difference is, Luffy is punching hody through the chest, vital place unlike the shoulder.
Oh to clarify, as I said in my previous post I don't really think luffy pierced hody. Someone here made the point that Hody could survive because Jimbei survived being pierced by Akainu and I was answering that post.

Yeah I'm starting to think you and The Daz are right. The power of that attack might just be that strong even if it's underwater.
-
I'm 99% sure the explosion is purely for effect. Like how Sanji can kick Bon Clay, and it takes half a minute for the effect to arrive.
It makes no sense, but it looks cool. Also, Luffy used haki reinforcement and G2 already, on the Pacifista at sabaody. This seems like he's just supercharging his G2 blood-pumping to heat up his arm, which combined with armament hardening makes for a nasty blow.
-
火拳銃 (hikken-juu)= Fire fist PISTOL!!!! Superb combination of Ace's and Luffy's powers!!!! GREAT PAGE!!!
-
Looking back, one has to wonder how much CoA Shanks had to put into his sword to block Akainu's fist, all things considered, since Akainu was easily about to pierce through human and even fishman flesh with ease.
-
wow This has been my favourite chapter ever since i caught up it was worthed the long wait.
Hody has become one of my favourire villans now his intentions aren't completly empty at all if you ask me, you can understand his hatred now. -
I don't get how a punch can explode but whatever, it looked cool so it's fine for now.
Flashback was pretty derpy though, about as "deep" as Toriko if you ask me. But I get why some people would like that sort of thing.
-
I rly liked the cover who gave us a nive little addition, that also North-,West and Eastbirds are existing.
The flashback was short but visualized again good what we all realised and heard over the past weeks.
Hodi somehow reminds me more and more of Freezer who was also able to change his appearance that often :)Fukaboshi shouting out the realisation that they first have to fight their inner demons(all the hatred has to go and they have to start again from zero)before anything could be changed was damn good in my eyes.
Realising that all the time they breeded the monsters that would make a progression unlikely, especially when Otohime was already saying that all the time was good in my eyes.
The KKK-reference was also rly fitting, because that whole arc his dealing with the real life problem of racial conflicts.
By showing that having a grudge isnt a solution, even when it
s hard to accept, Oda also gave us an importnat message for living with others.Ohh and the end with Luffys new attack…BAAAM!!, ripping apart Hodi`s back with that amazing blow.
Burning fist in memory to his lost brother...hell yeah! -
!
These two attacks are related. And, I believe that these will be part of Luffy's new set of abilities/ fighting techniques.
-
Do you honestly believe Oda or his publishers will let Luffy kill????
There's always a first time for everything.
-
Finally there are people who make good chapter reviews after all. -
Heh. South Bird. Nice. And he has a girlfriend now? And of COURSE there's a north, east and west bird to go with it, that only makes sense.
Hody's flashback doesn't really tell us anything new, though it does absolutely solidify what the theme and point of the arc is. (tho of course, they were all cute kids once.) It really is Oda's point that Hody is a terrible, empty villain, its intentional. Luffy isn't beating up Hody, but generations of FI's grief. If Hody was more dimensional or interesting, it'd be about him, rather than the environment. The entire point is it isn't just Hody, that if this continues this will keep happening. That's kind of weird, and doesn't make Hody himself any more interesting, but… it is intentional.
And so, Luffy destroying Fishman Island as prophesied isn't a physical thing, but destroying its centuries of hatred by giving it a new name, a new identity, a blank slate. (This is where it seemed to be headed as soon as the citizens begged Luffy to save the king.) "Goldfish Poop Island" has a nice ring to it...
Also, absolutely convinced now that Jinbei's scar will be a bonus bit of flashback tied into the hatred being set aside.
Also, of course, Luffy's Fire Fist move is a nice tribute to his brother.
-
Now it was deep, definitly… 10,000,000m deep to be precise. ;)
I think this is the best "post-TS" chapter. The flashback, followed by the speech and THAT PUNCH (which is not the end, is just Luffy getting serious)...
Well I remember most people did not get this just from the "Nothing". Ahohige did a pretty decent job explaining it, and thats how most people understood it... But obviously Oda would explain it himself... And in such a superb way - .
I just love how this connects with the flashback...Next chapter, first part will be Luffy following through. Hody consuming more of those ES and getting up, and the fight on the boat starts. Second part we will be back to the island, to see the nakama fights.
-

Look at the top right panel. http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/644/18
Shirahoshi swims into the bubble on Noah and Hody follows them. -
That's what I thought but this flashback takes place more than 16 years ago. Present day Shirley is less than 30 years old so it seems like a mistake on Oda's side.
I had to think to realize that you're right about taking place 16 or more years ago. We saw in the earlier flashbask of Fisher Tiger about 15 years ago Hodi was age 15 http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v59/c622/7.html so makes him 30 now.
Even if Shyari IS younger than 30, you do realize she can go mermaid mode again whenever she pleases, right?
Hody is definitely younger than 10 on Shyari´s panel. So that´s 20+ years ago
I agree Hody is younger than 10 but not by much and it might not be 20+ years ago, it could be only 16 years ago. Hodi could be about 9 yrs old, he looks how Tamanegi, Piiman and Ninjin looked when they were 9 years ago.
Oh boy now we got an issue of what is Shirley's age sicne she had a ..nice sized…profile . Hmmm I'm going to use real life with a dash of exageration to guide me until Oda clears it up. My sister asctually stared to develop breasts when she was 7 years old, was out of 'training bras' and wearing A-cup when she was 10. So until Oda says differently I'm going to assume Shirley's breasts developed at an early age and is around 29 since her tail hasn't split.
-
Do you honestly believe Oda or his publishers will let Luffy kill????
I reckon theyd let him do what he wants, the mans got the midus touch
-
Gon killed Pitou, Naruto killed Kakuzu, I dont see thats the problem with killing this maniac.
The 90% of the readers are adults anyway. -
Look at the top right panel. http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/644/18
Shirahoshi swims into the bubble on Noah and Hody follows them.If that was the case, luffy wouldn't still have his bubble, it'd have dissapeared like when the Sunny entered fishman island.
-
Come to think of it, it's not that self-evident that there are North-, East- and Westbirds aswell. I mean, there's no use really, is there? If you know one direction, you know all of them.
-
@Mrs.:

That's what I thought when we originally saw the south bird
EDIT: Maybe it's just for reproduction, so they can face each other…

I don't understand why the attack is the named the same as Ace's "hiken" attack. I'm looking at the last page, and all I see is the traditional steam/gas his body exudes in Gear 2nd mode. Maybe there are two/three flames, and an explosion behind where Hody was hit, which may mean Luffy punched a hole into Hody. Or is it just for effect? Anyways, I don't see why Luffy is naming a Gear 2 imbued with haki punch after his brother's fire attack. Fire Fist/Hiken after all was a wide and long ranged attack capable of taking out a whole lot of people. Luffy's attack seemed more concentrated with very little fire, despite the explosion, which I haven't understood yet.
Not to say it wasn't cool. I just need to see more of this attack to understand it.
