Hachi and Arlong are about the same age as seen by Hachi's flashback, and Hachi was only a small child in Strongworld. I'd be surprised if Arlong was older than 30, TBH.

Until we know Arlong's definite age (which we don't) it's all really just speculation but it's completely possible for him to be old enough to be Hodi's father.

We have Hachi to measure it, and I'm 100% that Arlong could not have a child older than 12. Like I said, I don't think Arlong is older than 30 when he is Hachi's age and we know that Hachi was a small child 22 years ago. We can't say what Hachi's exact age is, nevermind Arlong's, but we can approximate it just fine, and he is definitely not past his mid 30s.

Hodi is Arlong's son, calling it now. Makes sense because why else would Oda go out of his way for an elaborate (albeit interesting) discussion on the lineage of fishmen? At first I thought Hodi was going to be an Arlong clone but the more I thought about it the more I started to realize that maybe the reason Hodi is so much like Arlong is because they're Father and Son.
I think the focus on fishman/merman genetics is rather part of the buildup to ultimately shattering the Arlong-esque "fishman-supremacy" psychology that Hodi and his gang have latched on to.
After all, according to Den's explanation, fishmen/mermen have long had a implicit understanding of the capacity for two individuals to be wildly different from one another, even when closely related. As Den mentioned, they don't really understand why humans focus so much on categorizing people. But then, in an admittedly understandable backlash to their own people's long persecution at the hands of humans, many fishmen (Arlong and Hodi being notable examples) turn around and effectively do the same in reverse.
I think therefore that, ultimately, Hodi is going to be confronted with the fact that, while not physically as outlandish as it can be with fishmen/mermen, humans are much the same: even two humans who are directly related to one another can be vastly different. Even the child of a callous and hateful Celestial Dragon could turn out to be a strong supporter of the Equality of Fishmen and Mermen.
That's one of the main reasons I see Hodi as a misguided - and ultimately redeemable - character.
As to his potential relation to Arlong, its certainly possible, but I doubt it. Arlong never struck me as that old (I'd say mid-30s tops… Was his age ever mentioned?), and Hodi seems early to be in his early-20s. Similarly, there's more than enough connection with just the ideology. Hodi may be misguided, but he's willing to sacrifice his life for his beliefs. Making his coming conflict with Luffy (and yes, I fully expect that they will clash before this arc is over) personal via a direct familial relation to Arlong actually takes away from Hodi's character, I feel...

Just because Hachi was a child 22 years ago doesn't mean that Arlong couldn't have been a teenager 22 years ago. Nobody ever definitively said that Arlong and Hachi were the exact same age. I'm not saying Arlong is ridiculously older or anything I'm just saying he very well could have been up to 10 years older than Hachi which would put him in his late 30's, definitely old enough to have a son in his early 20's.

I am surprised information about a Poneglyph is so freely available here. Out of the three we've seen so far One was hidden with only the king knowing it's location, one was lost for centuries and the last one the marine went after. For the last few decaded Whitebeard mad such action by the marine impossible but maybe Big Mom doesn't care as much. Kinda funny to think that Robin slaved ten years under Crocodile to find out the location of a Poneglyph when she could have just gone to fishman island and ask someone on the street for directions :D
Hell Hodi looks like he is 30-something, which I doubt he is, he appears to be mid Twenties.
Where does Arlong fit into all of this? His name was dropped a few times already in this arc…maybe im just a dreamer but i would love to see him show up in some capacity!

Dinty brought up an interesting point that I don't think any one even acknowledged. What if pieces of Merry are in this ship graveyard? It's been 2 years and Water 7 is technically the last stop before Fishman Island. I wouldn't be surprised if the natural current has carried at least half of Merry over to the Sea Forest.
I don't know how that would affect the story at all, but it sure would be a surprise.
Except that Merry was actually burned at sea because they didn't want it to sink to bottom of the ocean, so this won't work.

Did you forget about Caribou? A logia is pretty dangerous, especially one who can immobilize people and store them away. The Strawhats are no longer rookies and therefore are easily able to best him, but the common citizen would be screwed if they tried to take him on.

I dont know if it a translation mistake. Border Patrol said They don't look like they came here to shop. Since English not my primary language, isn't they mean more than one person?
And why Caribou would want to go to Fishman District, I don't think any mermaid will be there and if there a place he want to go that would be Mermaid Cove.

Yes they burned Merry, but it didn't just turned to ash and that was it, part of it was in the water and most likely sank before it was completely consumed by fire.
There being nothing left of Merry is very doubtful.

We don't know exactly what age he joined the Sunny crew, or when he did. He was most likely in his teens tho. He didn't have to join the Sunny crew as soon as it was founded. I doubt he was a former slave due to his age.
Sunny crew… Damn, it would be nice for a Fisher Tiger disciple to sail on the Thousand Sunny :D
If the next chapter doesn't end with Vander Decken meeting up with Luffy, I will be very disappointed. Love the direction Oda decided to take things and can't wait for Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Brook to fight Hodi and his fodder army.

well u know a fight with hodi wont happen. zoro is a person who keeps his word, so they'll prob spend some time trying to not do anything to hodi instead
@ Pacer, if Zoro gets to know Hodi is a formidable opponent he will cut him down no matter what even if it is just to test his own strength. To my knowledge Zoro just doesn't care as long as he can be badass along the way.
Hodi'll probably try to hurt someone like Neptune next chapter and Zoro'll stop him/them. It'll give him (zoro) plenty of excuse to do so and it is obvious they are not the average hostage takers when they actually take into account the demands of the royals while having them as "hostages"

Zoro'd still cut him up. There aren't many non-haki users that can stand a chance against zoro anymore, and hodi doesn't even have a df.

The message said for Luffy not to fight Hodi. Nothing about his crew. With the way Zoro thinks I doubt he follows that logic.

becuase its an ex-shichibukai asking luffy, their captain almost a favor. meaning if they were to fight Hodi, they would make luffy look as though he can't keep a promise. Also, Jimbei said the message is for luffy is ecause luffy is the CAPTAIN. there is no reason why he would have the message past onto someone in his crew, sepcialyl when jimbei has never met a single one of them.
