Databook: "One Piece Green"

That's awesome :D

Awesome news… Looking forward for it
but wtf is DragonBall SD?
Some one shot of Dragon Ball made by other mangaka. Not something worth reading in my opinion.
It will be featured in a new magazine for kids, where they will publish one shots of different manga made by mangaka other than the original.
There is also a One Piece one shot, but it looks horrible.
-
OK… Thought something new by Toriyama. But thank you

You're not the only one :lmao
The guys in MS forum started getting so excited about it. I'm not sure if someone told them that it's not what they expect it to be.

@Buggy:
Thanks Greg and Ulrilra for info and scans.
Have these been translated? ("naming roots" p.366-367)
http://i56.tinypic.com/2dqknyw_th.jpg
What does it say about?
One explains the codenames of Baroque Works agents and provides "The Unluckies" as an example: Mr. 13 & Miss Friday -> Friday the 13th.
The other one explains the design of the Criminal brand, featuring a star made by the designer, Papagg.
I really just glanced very slightly at them.

Rubia – if you have a moment and don't mind:
Does the Crimin section say anything that we don't already know about the brand?
[What we know already: it's designed by Pappag; possibly in reaction to the popularity of Doskoi; Camie has her own off-shoot label of Criminal called Mermaid; of the crew Zoro seems to be most fond of the Criminal brand (probably because the logo matches his own scar), though everyone's worn it at least once in a Colorspread and if I'm remembering correctly, only Luffy has been seen in Mermaid brand so far].

Oooh I think this is a really interesting idea! Surely will be good for a laugh.

I've looked through part of the thread and haven't seen it so… Has anyone translated any of the Crocodile related pages yet?
If not I'm gonna work on it tomorrow o_o

They aren't one shots…. they're series of adaptations for kids....

Is the One Piece spin off only 2 pages? O_o

It's just an advertisment. Real magazine starts publishing in December.

Yo. My friend did this. The translation is Greg's of course. Just a more convenient way for this forum users to view the Databook, not meant to be a scanlation group thing.

The two guys beside Mohda , anyone know what the text beside them says ?

@No:

Mad Scientist DR. HIRULUK!!!
Those two men are early versions of Dr. Hiruluk.

I have an odd love for the Father Moriah design. Maybe because it reminds me of Anderson.
"Everything D. Teach"? Well, that explains a lot.
-
I just noticed . The guy on one of the sketches page , beside Islewan (the walrus guy) , the tall guy with the face looking upwards - that looks ALOT like Mr. Hook from Mär , the nose and the fact the one leg is not finished so it kinda looks like a peg leg :P

So reading the thing about Zeff and the grand line being paradise, did mangastream mistranslate that, or is it a very strong hint that Zeff has been to, or at least gotten close to, the New World?

Not really. That detail probably didn't exist back then, since that mention used the Japanese word for paradise, while the pirates that Kid offed called it ''Paradise'', in English.
-
I realize that, but mangastream's translation of the databook directly says he was talking about how new world pirates called the grand line paradise. Which is why I was wondering if that was a mistranslation
-

Are you implying that Zeff isn't badass enough to have been part of the New World?
-
No, I'm just saying it's possible that the line's meaning is being misconstrued, since in the original context Sanji mentioned how the Grand Line was said to be the deadly and treacherous and the bane of sailors, but Luffy says that Zeff told him that for people willing to brave it and perservere it can be like heaven, not that there's a Grand Line for the Grand Line (which is really what the New World is, went you get down to it) that's so harsh the first half is like a breeze to travel in comparison.
-
If it was just fan speculation I'd probably dismiss it. But I feel like Oda would correct a mistake like that, even though I know he didn't technically write the databook since it said he looked over it. Which is why I'm curious about it. And remember, according the interviews, Oda had the way the series would end in mind from the start, so him planning the new world by then isn't too farfetched
-
Oda is a clever bastard, mind you.
Also, I just had a chilling thought. Moria's name is now Moriah. These two names are pronounced differently. Moria is pronounced MORE-ee-uh (emphasis on the first vowel), while Moriah is pronounced either moh-RYE-uh or more-EYE-uh (emphasis on the second vowel). The "-iah" suffix does that, as we've seen with "messiah", "Jebediah", and of course, "Mariah".
Now here's the chilling part: will the dub pronounce it that way?? -
I don't think it really matters which the west uses.
-
Noooooooo….
They pronounce it as "Moria" in the japanese version.
So, I don't see why Funi wouldn't do the same. -

What, your not a Moriah Carey fan?
fffff, I lol'd.
But it's sort of a catch-22. Pronouncing "Moriah" like you would "Moria" is just silly, but then again, pronouncing Mr. Gecko's given name with emphasis on the second vowel would also sound silly.
Best case scenario, they may change it back to "Moria" just for pronunciation clarification, like they did with Don Kreig's first mate. Gin isn't pronounced with a hard "g" in English, but "Ghin" is.

I'm pretty sure that Oda pretty much retconned that scene in Baratie to be a misunderstanding that only holds true to badasses such as Luffy and Zeff. New World punks call the 1st half paradise because it's easymode and badasses call the 1st half paradise because it's fun and romantic.
My Truth: Zeff heard some guys calling the Grandline "paradise," took it out of context and then told Luffy what he heard.

My memory of the early arcs are kinda fuzzy, was it a retcon or did the scene where Zeff confronts Luffy actually take place during the Baratie Arc?
-
Paradise was first mentioned here and the next page:
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v09/c069/3.htmlThe scene never happened in the story, but only talked about. Oda might've planned it or he could've forgotten during the Baratie arc and added it later :p
Kidd mentions Paradise in ch. 594, page 12:

Oda is a very clever man. To hide Paradise that far back into the story… he got us again
-

Oh lord I can just smell the engrish when the anime gets to that part .
-
Does that mean that Zeff was in the New World? o_O
So he truly might be stronger than we think… I hope someone will mention him soon after seeing Sanji's fighting style

Yea i'd pay to see that. The fact that he was trained by a famous pirate and mirrors his skill is to juicy to not use. Im sure it will be common knowledge one day. The most feared/wanted man Sanji trained by red leg zeff. They most likely already know since they call him black leg Sanji.
Kuro ashi Sanji!
