With the Berserker armor Guts was able to destroy Grunbeld's weapon and shield, and he was already very injured from his encounter with Slan. Their fight ended in a draw as it was interrupted.

He's just showing him enough to manipulate Rickert into joining them and showing him enough to imply that they're under Griffith's complete control. Notice when he was talking about the Eclipse he didn't say "yeah look at all the apostles here that murdered and raped your friends."

I think it's safe to say now that he would give any apostle a good run for his money.
Guts knows how to control the armor now too thanks to Schierke. He was manhandling him earlier when he was in complete Berserker mode which also had the side effect of damaging his body more since he was tanking hits. If he fought him again he should be able to come up with a strategy to take him down. The majority of apostles are nothing to him. The only ones now that would give him any trouble are Zodd, the other Neo Hawks, and of course the Godhands.
Excellent chapter as always, and it's great that we'll get a chapter next month as well.
Rickert is definitely being setup to do something big, though what that might be I do not know. It was also nice to see the light tone of the Erica section when she thinks of Guts, only to be whiplashed to the demon coliseum. At this point I just sat back and relaxed as I enjoyed the wondrous art and design of those grotesque trademark Miura hell demons. I can't wait for when Rickert actually gets to confront Griffith and what will transpire.
While this is all fine and dandy I am hoping that, because we're spending so much time on Falconia, the next time we see Guts and company they'll already be arriving on the Fairy island.

Excellent chapter. It feels good to have some of Miura's dark things. Literally Berserk is the only series I read that gives me a really odd feeling of darkness thats only unique to this manga. The only other thing that I've gotten a similar feeling to was playing Dark Souls, and that was only a minor feeling compared to Berserk. This chapter makes me want to re-read all of it so I can experience it again.

Just read beserk for the first time and mid way thro the second read. But Idk if it's poor translation or what but parts are super confusing. Why was Griffith chosen to be a new member of God hand instead of just an apostle. Just "fate"????
Reading beserk and going back to one piece kinda killed one piece for me. The art work in beserk is breathe taking. The characters, battles, and story are amazing tho a little extreme at times. Caska is one of the unluckiest characters in any manga.

No, just one piece after the timeskip just hasn't been the same, pda being sick, stressed, etc. I feel he gets lazy on his detail and artwork especially as of late as in regards to berserk where every panel looks spectacular down to every detail and the story is always taking it to the next level.
One piece has amazing characters it just doesnt feel like they are as epic as they could be.

One Piece's art is at the same level its ever been at, in some ways even more detailed with more panels per page and cramming more than ever.
Aside from that. One Piece is a weekly series. Berserk is, at best, a monthly. Closer to bi-monthly the last couple years. Comparing the art production is apples and orages.
That said, yes, Berserk's art is pretty much unmatched.

Not every panel looks spectacular. Most of them look good, yes, and many of them great, the absolute best in the buisness. But Muira has his not-so-good shots too. Particularly when he's being goofy with the comic relief characters.

As good as it is, it's not that great spread over decades, and definitely has weak areas. Its incredibly rare anymore that any given chapter is satisfying at all, you have to read it a volume at a time to get anything out of it.
Berserk is a masterpiece no question, and the top of its game in its particular genre (though I'll generally take the 70's Marvel Conan comics over it) but don't assume something you just read in is equal to the length of time it takes to come out compared to it's peers.
Hell, its been fifteen years and even at its best its still hard pressed to match the quality it reached in the Golden Age arc.

Nope, Skullknight rescued Guts from the Eclipse. He was supposed to die then. If Godhand had a plan for him to later kill Griffith, they would've done something to make sure he stayed alived back then. Everything aside Guts escaping the Eclipse is all according to the Idea of Evil's plan to bring upon the Age of Darkness.

Whenever I hear tons of people saying that i get the feeling that 70% of humanity is unable to follow ongoing book series as well.
It's nothing personal, but these statements always make me scratch my head.
Seems like they have pretty bad memory, lol. I personally don't get it either, since I have no problem following the majority of long running series even with a long time in between releases. Sure I may forget small things, but the important stuf is always still there.
It was hilarious though when a few people I know irl complained about that as well as spoilers. Apparently they were spoilered by comments on the internet on the recent ASOIAF chapter even though they barely finished Clash of Kings in book form and can't even remember most main characters in the GoT TV series… you'd think that it shouldn't matter if you get spoiled stuff that you will in 99% of the case forget by the time you reach it...

The problem with your theory is the world is already headed to the Age of Darkness. The Age of Darkness isn't dependent on Guts killing Griffith. So the masterplan of them using Guts to kill Griffith doesn't really make sense. Especially since none of them have really given Guts a way to fight Griffith. All they really have shown so far is curiousity about Guts struggle.

It would be really cheap if the Godhand just let Gutts and Caska live, especially since a theme of this manga is "fuck destiny"
Maybe Desperado intends for the theme of screwing over destiny to be that they choose to avoid causality's usual direction when the critical time comes? But the setup basically in every arc is that Guts and Caska are both cogs that fell out of an otherwise robust machine, and their jamming thus far has made little to no impact on the efficiency of the machine just yet
If anything, Guts and Casca's impact has only made the machine more efficient/deadly. Griffiths would have never fallen from grace in the way that he did if it wasn't for those two. Hell, we could say that if it wasn't for his fateful meetings with them then he never would have become Femto in the first place.
Yeah, Guts has been battling destiny since birth, but it's that very character which brought him and Griffiths together in the first place, precipitating the completion of the God Hand and the melding of the two worlds. If this really was all the Idea of Evil's plan, then couldn't we say that It designed a fate for Guts that is built upon his predisposition to oppose his own fate? Fighting his fate is what created his fate, in a way.
The fall from Grace is different from the aftermath of surviving being sacrificed to a den of demons, we're talking about how Skull Knight's interference played any possible role that was outside of the expectation of causality.
Yeah, it definitely seems that there are things that even the God Hand doesn't know about Evil's plan.
Just because the God Hand was surprised by the participation of the Skull Knight doesn't mean that it was beyond the Idea's considerations.

Guts already screwed destiny by surviving the eclipse. And anyways, if Guts does get a powerup, it'll be from Elf magic and not from the Behelit. Probably whatever the Skull Knight used to transform into his current form.
Your super awesome behelit theory doesn't work as well. There's only one Egg of the King Behelit which shows up every 216 years which is used to make a Godhand that Griffith used. Gut's behelit would just be a regular Apostle one.

But yeah, his Behelit doesn't seem to be anything special. Maybe it's larger than usual?
edit: I think that Skull Knight must be related in some way to the appearance of the previous King Behelit. We'll probably get more info once we actually meet the king of the elves. Maybe SK will show up on the elf island, too.

Serpico will use it to get revenge since he isn't strong enough on his own to defeat Guts. Serpico tried to fight Guts in the pillar room when Farnese left but he knew that Guts was holding back when he was fighting him. He would've got destroyed if Guts put his Berserker's armor on.

It's only a theory since nothing has been confirmed yet. But there are some hints from the manga. Skull Knight has been confirmed though to be the previous user of the beserker armor. Flora was keeping it for him and they decided to give it to Guts.

According to Mozgus (Priest Apostle during the Tower of Conviction arc), angels (Godhand) were summoned by a prisoner (Void?) imprisoned by Gaiseric. Slan (the Girl Godhand) calls Skull Knight "your majesty" at times. Then when Guts (along with Charlotte) go under the Midland castle to rescue Griffith. It shows a bunch of skeletons with the sacrifice brand on them.

Hmm, I guess that I didn't say that quite right. I forgot that the King Behelits are destined for whoever is meant to become part of the God Hand.
What I mean to say is that Griffith's Behelit seems to be especially special, even for a member of the God Hand. He was able to materialize in the real world before the spirit world was melded with it (something we haven't seen the other God Hand members do, right?), so I think that there's something special about his power when compared to that of the others.
Perhaps the Idea really does have some sort of 1000 year cycle in mind where even the God Hand gets decimated and rebuilt each time. If this is the case, then I'm sure that the Skull Knight played a role in the last cycle and we'll learn more from him as soon as he reappears.

The product of the devil! Since 216*5 is 1080, and the last catastrophe was 1080 years ago, I'm assuming that no one ever turns down the option to become a member of the God Hand. Or, if they do, then the 216 year timer doesn't need to be reset and whoever is nearby can take the available position.
But absolute evil comes from the number 6, so we need a 6th character with power like the God Hand, but clearly not a God Hand because 6 fingers is just weird.
The 6th finger takes down the rest, then the cycle begins again.

I don't think that becoming a God Hand member makes you all knowing. You only know what the Idea of Evil clues you in on. The rest is still a surprise.

The Godhand knows more than we do. So we get little tibits of expositions by the things they say. Slan calling him "your majesty" can be a troll but it's also a hint thrown in by Muira to give us clues to his true identity.
Another reason as to why there isn't anymore new Godhands is that Skull Knight killed the previous King owners before they had a chance to accept. But then that is kinda flimsy since if that was true he would've already tried to kill Griffith off before the eclipse happened.
I'm not denying who you're saying SK is. I think that it makes a lot of sense if he's Gaiseric, who "died" 1080 years ago.
What I'm saying is that, for all we know, the current God Hand didn't come into existence until then or later. Perhaps there was a previous God Hand composed of 5 other "angels", and it was this group that was called upon to destroy Gaiseric's kingdom. If a new God Hand member is chosen every 216 years, then why are there currently only 5 God Hand members? There should be 10 by now, since there clearly were 5 that already existed 1080 years ago who brought ruin upon Gaiseric.
I'm saying that Gaiseric probably did something crazy (like Guts) and became something like the 6th God Hand member, and then used his power to destroy the creatures that brought an end to his glory days. Then, over the next 1080 years, the current God Hand is constructed, eventually leading to Griffiths/Guts.
The true boss of Berserk are actually not five angels but a five pairs of wings Aizen, and the Idea of Evil's so fucking tired of his keikaku that Griffith is here to bring about an age of darkness
