About him playing Papa Smurf or about me not knowing who he is?
Another Cartoon icon becomes live craption
-
-
The latter.
It's always the latter. :ninja:
-
I don't normally pay attention to who plays characters in a movie. Plus, I've looked up what movies he was in and I've only seen one of them.
-
I haven't seen his movies either, but he was a regular on The Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was hosting it. Chances are if you picked a random Tonight Show with JC episode on YT, there's a good chance Winters would be in it.
He and his character cast were also featured in a Scooby Doo episode, therefore it is YURUSENAI that anyone would not know who he is!!

Avatar is the greatest SCIFI movie of the 21st century…its better then mot movies out there, especially that crap about a prison and some loserish future society of douchebags in mental hospitals
but anyway, the Thundercats movie will have the same ugly costumes as the one's in the hprrendous movie called the "cheetah girls"
-
@Jedi:

Yeah… no. Both District 9 and Moon were much MUCH better than Avatar, and that's just this year.
-
Neil Patrick Harris is confirmed to take on the 'lead role' in the Smurfs movie.
"I'll do my smurfiest to represent well," the 36-year-old actor wrote on twitter. "Smurfs are rad."
-
I thought this movie came out already.
-
There was a southpark episode that made that joke.

Soooooo….

Hank Azaria (Apu, Moe the Bartender) as Gargamel…
And all this directed by the Scooby Doo guy?
Hollywood...
-
Hank Azaria makes so much sense, it should have been obvious.

….....They don't look half bad.
-
@LC:
Woah, don't see that coming
-
If wikipedia is to be believed:
It will star Dan Aykroyd as the voice of Yogi Bear, Justin Timberlake as the voice of Boo Boo Bear, and Christine Taylor as the voice of Cindy Bear.
-
@LC:
If wikipedia is to be believed:
PLEASE tell me they're not using their own voice, but attempting to mimic their original voice! For the love of God!
And Dan Aykroyd? Can we not repeat previous mistakes? Bill Murrey's final regret was Garfield! He said it himself after being mistaken for a zombie! We can't force another Ghostbuster to do the voice of a classic cartoon icon!
-
This could possibly be worse than the upcoming Marmaduke movie. I wish they'd leave the old classics alone…
Edit: WOAH BACK UP Justin Timberlake is BooBoo? Where did that come from? -
They don't look live action at all. They look like they would in a Pixar film.
-

That's exactly why I like it so far.
It's not….."If the characters were realistic, this is what they would look like." Instead the just took the character, gave them fur (which is what they both have), and kept them cartoony.
I can respect that.
-
wait, yogi bear?
what next speedy gonzales…oh wait.
-
@LC:
that is quite possibly the creepiest thing i have ever seen
-
So is Huckleberry Hound next?
@LC:
I will be seeing this in my sleep.

They're remaking Wizard of Oz atm, after the succss of Alice. Hopefully Burton gets it. The 2 potential scripts they're considering are both non-musicals.
A). A Remake of the original (or 1st book if you want) B). Dorothy's descendant travels to Oz to "fight Evil". I opt for the first one.COnsidering a big budget remake hasn't been made since 1939, I'm keen for this. I've been meaning to get round to
reading the 13 part Frank Baum series of Wizard of Oz. i've fond memories of watching the 1939 Movie as a child. -

I wouldn't mind seeing bits of Wicked in there as well.
Helena Boham Carter as the Wicked Witch. -
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
-
I hope this thing fucking flops. But it'll probably do very well at the box office thanks to all of the stupid kids who don't mind excessive pop culture jokes in place of something called humor.
-

Thought that was the point.

tim burton stay away from Wizard of Oz
this seriously makes me want to throw up

Oh my god. Why do they have to rape these good cartoons and turn them into these monstrosities.

Helena Boham Carter as the Wicked Witch.Yeah I also think Burton'd do well on this. He's have to make sure he kept oz especially bright though. Not let his "style" make it look too dark (well atleast when it shouldn't be)
You read Baum's book series, by any chance? I was thinking of going out and buying one of those big "All the books in one book" books within the next week or so.
The one thing that brings it down a little is, The 1939 one has become well, to put it lightly, massively massively famous. And a lot of that is chalked up to it being Musical. Not that I Particularly like musicals, it's just you know, those fond memories of watching as a kid and seeing them be all jolly and singing and all that. And I'm sure the songs are very memorable for most people.
I remember seeing a 'not-quite sequel' that was made. Based on the 2nd? book, you might have seen it yourself perhaps, where they returned to Oz to find it ravaged and ruled by Mombi the witch consorting with the Nome King and wheelers, etc ? - That wasn't quite as iconic. Perhaps because it was less jolly and memorable without the songs.
I mean for many people you just can't do WoO right without the songs.
So whoever (if not Burton) does take it on, they'll have added pressure to produce. -
reads thread and sees terrible pictures of CGI Boo-boo
What the FUCK is this shit?
-
Helena Boham Carter as the Wicked Witch.
Idina Menzel or BUST
i'd actively protest the film otherwise

On the Wizard of Oz note, Wicked the Musical is at the theater I work at. Shit's been crazy there, more security then Lion King.

Burton did well in contrasting the White Queen and the Queen of Hearts in Alice In Wonderland, and I think something similar would be used with Galinda and the Witch of the West…Burton could pull a different sort of 'brightness' off that isn't usually in his movies, but I have no doubt that he could do it.
I didn't get to read all of the series, but I will say this; he's very creative, but not so good with battle scenes. I give the first book a solid B, but I didn't get very far into the second book--not because it wasn't good, but because well shit happens.
Along with the songs, they won't have Judy Garland, which might keep several fans of the original movie from watching. Some people may be quick to criticize the actress who takes her place. (It's hard to imagine watching that movie without Follow The Yellow Brick Road and Somewhere Over The Rainbow…)
I didn't know there was a sequel, but it sounds interesting. I'll check it out.
I agree; at least with Alice In Wonderland alot of the songs that were in the Disney version were taken from poems in the book, so Burton could reuse them. Not with Oz, though....which is probably the biggest obstacle. Hopefully they won't put too much stock into the special effect and ignore the quality of the rest of the movie.

Huh.
I was expecting a Marmaduke thread.
Instead I get Yogi Bear. I am both amused and horrified.
Amurrified.
The feeling is incredible and life changing, I assure you. -
Jokey Smurf has a voice now
http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/movie-talk-pee-wee-joins-new-live-action-smurfs-film.htmlintresting pick for Jokey Smurf
-
This movie's cool factor is now at a 7.9, up from a 6.9. Jonathan Winters brought it up from a 2, and Azaria contributed that .9.
-
I think NPH as the "lead" also adds a few hopeful points to that rating.

sony why do you cut me like this
-
I don't care what anybody at Sony says; that's a creature that will cheerfully murder you in your sleep given half the chance to do so.
Just looking at the character design for Zodiac Killer Smurf is giving me Mac & Me flashbacks while Papa Smurf looks like he's been tossed into a blender with David the Gnome and one of the California Raisins.
-
I'm just kind of…speechless here.
-
I remember on my trip at New York, we passed by an area that was filming the Smurfs. They wanted us to pass by quickly, and when I heard about them filming the Smurfs, my first thought was 'Wtf? Smurfs in New York?'
-
I don't see how anyone on here could have thought that this movie would have been anything more than a scar on the face of American entertainment anyway.
-
It Burnes! It Burnes!
My Childhood Is On Fire And It's Burning Down! -
You know if it weren't for the whole "Flanders/Wallonia" divorce thing, the Belgians could declare war on us for this monstrosity. (then again I think we're still trying to clean up from Japan's attacks for ruining Godzilla and DB)

What's next, Popeye? You're 30 years too late: Popeye was already made into a movie with Robin Williams as the sailor. (though my dad actually liked it)

Ahhhh why am I not surprised
It was probably much better than this will be.
