It's reminding me of Alabasta, which also had nice background art.
What are the chances that at least most of Dressrosa will look like the recent episodes?
Well it hasn't even wrapped up in the manga yet (though it shows signs of coming to a climax at least) so that's not helping it's case.
Plus anytime it is in the same arc as it's manga big brother, the episode count is almost identical/double the amount of the chapter count. There will undoubtedly be some budget constraints.
It's a six hundred episode cartoon produced by Toei Animation. They know pretty much nobody is ever going to want to buy this series so they're not going to bother giving it particularly good resources, especially in this economy.

Double the chapter count? Where did you take that from?!
That would mean a 60 chapter arc becoming 120 anime episodes, when nothing even remotely close ever happened. The pacing is 1/1, not 0.5/1, regardless of being in the same arc or not.

You should check the recent Japanese dvd box sales..
If OP was a short series, those sales would be more than new season-worthy.
This last episode suggests we might run into something like 0.75/1 pacing but it's going to take until we're a few more episodes down the line before it's a certainty. This last one could have been a one-off exception and 1/1 pacing will continue from here on out.

Ryou Onishi age is about 29  so, he was 24 during shabondy arc
Anybody know who did around the first 3 minutes of this scene, I love this art style!
!
Sweet, even Yokoyama seems to be getting good animators.
That shading on Violet's very Movie 3-esque.

Once again, Yokohama has been on on an upswing since Marineford. But like Usopp he's always going to be the weakest animator on the team but it doesn't mean he's not improving in his own right (or at least he's getting better KA for his episodes).
Key animators are paid by the cut, usually $40 USD a cut. Since each episode has three hundred cuts I think Yokoyama has intentionally worked alone in the past to reap as much of the budget for himself as possible. I believe he is an in-house Toei employee, too so he has that going for him too (as little as it helps). If he is bringing on other key animators I think that is a sign that old age is wearing him down. That or the scheduled amount of time he is allotted is growing smaller.

That profile is wrong. A lot of works that appear there are not Toei's Yokoyama Kenji (横山健次) works, but another Yokoyama Kenji (横山謙次) with which it is often confused.
Wow, Yokoyama's episode looks really good. I wonder if Katsumi Tokoro have something to do with it, usually the episodes he directs look great.

Kinda funny since her other hand is entirely drawn. Goof?
So this is how it goes:
Luffy Vs. Akainu is confirmed to be (Hiroyuki Horiuchi)
Thx to Archah.
Zoro Vs. Fujitora is confirmed to be (Tomohiro Furukawa)
Sanji Vs. Kizaru is confirmed to be (Atsushi Saito)

Likely a preview goof. I've seen the final product differ from the preview before, so maybe it'll be fixed.

Do you mean that they will mess up the other hand as well? TOEI JOOOOKE! YOHOHOHOHOHO!
Shida Naotoshi says he isn't schedule for One Piece for a while, but he is working on Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers.
Oh well, that's too bad.
Will Naoki Tate ever make a come-back with One Piece for Key Animation? I think he would be a real benefit, especially if it comes down to Coliseum filler fights.

That depends. He's been busy working on Toriko. If Toriko really does end this March he might return, unless he goes to work on Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers.
I think dressrosa really needs a Kuroyanagi and Tate comeback. Here's hoping!

Any news on which channel is Disk Wars supposed to air? I'm still wondering if it's Saint Seiya Omega's replacement.

Saint Seiya Omega airs on TV Asahi. Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers will air on TV Toukyou this spring.

Ah, thanks. So there's a chance SSO will continue, as there's nothing else new announced. Unless Toei decides they have too many new series already.
Shit, this luffy scene was supposed to be in #632. I hate when they change the cliffhangers.
Looks better than the usual Shimanuki's ep, but animation looks meh.
I can already hear the voice of whining fans. "The slow pacing will be the death of One Piece."

So it should be "dead" for seven or eight years already.
Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but…
Where can I find all the Anime character art... I mean like these:
Thanks in advance.

That's a very nice collection, it's a pity it's not comprehensive and the images aren't larger though.

It appears that 633-635 will actually cover 4 - 4 1/2 chapters altogether. That is, if it follows the manga's order of events.
However, the cynical side of me things that Toei is going to mess with this chronology somewhat and skip a big chunk of 705 to keep the anime focused on the colosseum and rush in the meeting of Bellamy and "Lucy". In other words we will most likely be getting 3 chapters worth of content animated (or less) with the skipped portions being done in a future episode.
I wonder why there is no episode on March 9? I can't imagine Toriko is also taking a break if it is going to be ending in time for April. Hmm…

like each year, because of the annual march Marathon festivals, usually broadcasted the whole sunday on the fuji network.
Tokyo Marathon 2014 - 23/02/2014 (apparently not aired this year, it was last year, or maybe later, we'll see), and the Nagoya women's marathon 2014 - 09/03/2014 (this one is fully broadcasted as usual)
ps: toriko will certainly be also in break, no doubt about it.
Ah, so it's for a marathon. I suppose that raises the likelihood of Toriko being on break, but it hasn't been confirmed yet, right?

It would actually be really funny if he was making fun of the opening and the fact that it spoiled some of the highlights of the Dressrosa arc xD
So it should be "dead" for seven or eight years already.
Its death has a slow pacing as well :ninja:
Not sure if these have been seen before, but in an interview with Miyamoto, a few storyboard images were shown from Episode 483.
I hope someone can translate this part, will be valuable to this thread:
宮元:そうですねえ。「シリーズディレクターって何?」って言われると、答えが難しいんですけど。TVシリーズ全体の統括な感じですかね。
東映アニメーションのアニメ制作って、元々実写映画から来ている作り方で。うちは、各話の演出さんがその話数を責任をもってやるっていう形なんです。
でも、各話の演出さんは、それぞれ自分の話数で手一杯な部分があるので、全体的なバランスを見て「ここはこうした方がいいですよ。」みたいなことを調整しているんです。
What is a series Director? The answer is difficult…Then he starts explaining what is his real job is about. Maybe keeping the balance, or something.
My understanding of the Series Director role has always been in acting as a lead director for the series. Setting and approving the tone of the series while also setting an example for the other directors. Ultimately, while the Series Director is not directly involved in every episode, everything is approved by him.
