Interesting chapter, wonder who that mystery caller is.
Bakuman
-
-
Reading it some more. Oh lord. Hattori is actually serious.
edit: Finished. The whole editorial is serious.'
I was assuming the guy nrhind the phone was Namamine, but the last page made me think it was someone new.
-
what the fuck was this chapter
-
-
Good chapter, as see more of Miura he really needs to improve his social skills.Hattori part was great, the expressions and analysis of the manuscript.
But manuscript itself to me seems dificult to expand the story but concept was interesting (when i was reading this part panty and stocking with garterbelt came to mind).
The misterious caller i also though it was Namamine at first but seems its not him. This new mangaka that appear came a bit out of nowhere ,well lets see where author goes with this.
-
I too think it could be Nanamine trying to get more than one series in JUMP.
He's been the only other character on that non-mainstream mainstream battle manga path. too Calling the editors of JUMP simple minded seems like his personality.
-
Absolutely loved this chapter, glad to see Bakuman going off into a rival arc again, that isn't someone uninteresting like Iwase.
-
Great chapter as always. Nanamine seems to be the obvious choice for the mystery guy, but I have a feeling it may not be him. I don't think it's someone entirely new, because then what would be the point in hiding their face? Could it be that perveted kid that Takagi punched back in the beginning of the series? (yeah, it doesn't really look like him, but I can't think of anyone else).
-
Maybe its Koogy?
ahahahahaha yeah. Didn't think so.
-
! Based solely on appearance, the mystery guy def looked like Nanamine. And the story already sounds like his: a blasting start for a new series – followed by a lousy continuation, but that is yet all to come, right?
! Miura acted like a big, disrespectful jerk.
He so deserves being editor of Nakai!
! And above all, finally some Ashirogi's development seenable at the end of the tunnel! -
Incredibly fun chapter, was a blast, SO looking forward to the next one.
-
This wasn't a bad chapter.
I don't agree that the one shot is an interesting premise for a story, but I can kind of follow their train of thought. At the very least I hope it really gets the Ashirogi gang working harder on their next series.
Also mysterious puppet master woooooooh
-
Damn Miura gets on my nerve a little more every chapter… anyway this look like an arc that might be similar to the Nanamine one... I really wanted them to focus on the 2 main character instead of going with another arc about a new rival... well we'll see if it's good
-
My starting the Miura hate-train is vindicated!
Sweet chapter. I also jumped immediately to Nanamine as the man in the darkness, and reading through the previous posts, others seem to agree. Other than appearance, the most obvious clue seems to be the fact that the last time our leads came up with a new idea, it was Nanamine who submitted a manga along those lines. The same thing happened again this chapter, so his return wouldn't be at all surprising.
That page where Hattori gets more and more interested in the manga is masterfully done. Kudos to the mangaka.
-
Hattori's final reaction for me was quite a surprise because as I was reading it and he was saying his impressions like "even so the character is momoko's little brother until the very last" and etc, I was thinking "wow, is that crappy?" because it sounded to me as if it was rushed and didn't make sense, with forced things, but then at the end of the page I realized he was actually astonished by how good it was, I was "AH", was quite funny to me.

I don't think it's him. That wasn't even his hair.

Last weeks's chapter was a bit boring but this one completely made up for it. Miura is an idiot, haha. Also, was Hattori foreshadowing that Ashirirogi Muto would get a new editor soon?
-
This was a good chapter and all, but for real, how many times does Ashirogi Muto need "a fire lit under them?" Seriously, like, no matter what is happening in the manga my man Hattori goes "man this'll sure motivate Ashirogi! …Even more!" It's getting a bit stale. Aren't they motivated already? Weren't they motivated when they we went to the high school reunion, and going up against Nanamine, and during the romance-off, and when Eiji was ending Crow? Weren't they motivated initially by the whole marrying the nonentity known as Azuki, who has gone and achieved her goal like over 40 chapters ago?
I hope this arc leads to some actual forward progress on the whole anime front, for srs.
-
It seems to me that this manga has been going in circles for a while. I thought Eiji ending Crow would be the first damn progress we were gonna get but nope he's just gonna come up with another series so the whole thing can start all over again.
-
Team Muto is definitely going to be inspired and motivated by a manga about panties that's created by a shy 50 year old. Hattori is a great editor. End of story. Long live Japan and their strange fascination with merchandising potential.
Now… I'm awaiting Aoki's reaction... You know? Someone with sense.

Inspiration comes and goes. You CAN'T keep the fire lit 24/7, its just impossible. You can put your all into a project, but then its harder to do it on the next one. You have days where you feel like being lazy, or just the sheer natural ebb and flow of creation means some chapters are going to be weaker than others, especially when you're serialized and there's no time to retroactively edit what's already out there. (Except for minor mistakes that can be fixed in the trade.)
Writers and artists can get enthused and inspired for a story arc or two at a time, but you really DO need new inspiration and competition constantly to stay motivated. Somethign you watch, or something someone says, or… wherever it is inspiration comes from. Sometime I'll color a lousy page or two of a book that I'm not feeling, and one of my coworkers will then say "What the hell Robby, I know you can do better than that, that sucks!" And since its genuine and he means it and I know he's right... I then get pissed off and color the hell out of the next page.
Or... I wrote 100 issues of Ninja High School, plus some specials related to it. So about 130 issues overall. For about 10 years. And from that list, I can off the top of my head list my top 7 chapters. For reasosn of the story, art, how it came together, something that was going on personally at the time, how the deadlines crunched in acertain way, luxury of time to go all out on something, a first time working with an artist, or a scene that came out great and felt genuine.... and I can only pick out 7 chapters as my favorites. I'm fairly pleased with most of it, and I always tried my best to make every chapter as good as it could be... but there's natural ebbs and flows in quality. You can only hit the peak on occassion, its impossible to do every week.
You DO need a constant fire lit underneath you, and it DOES have to keep coming from different places. Unfortunately, while this is absolutely true... it does make a kind of redundant and repetitive ongoing story... such is the creative process.
-
I'm with Hiroy. I couldn't really get into this chapter. I'm still going to keep up with the series obviously and I'm waiting to see where Ohba will go with this but I just didn't get behind Hattori's excitement with this series and why everyone else was going along with it. I was honestly just weirded out by this. Still evil plot is interesting.

because

are
[hide]MEN!![/hide]
working a magazine line that is intended to gain popularity from little stupid boys. You know? Like Hattori, Miura, ect. It's the spirit of the magazine.

I guess so but it just bothered me personally. I guess I'm just a prude. Sorry.
-
That was in a semi-serious joking tone mocking the whole idea. Well… intended to be. I should sorry for intimidating you. I tend to do that.
-
You can't be that prude Kareem Said, I've read your posts, you seem like a pretty logical guy.
The manga is popular because it has an interesting battle element that allows for "built-into-the-story" fan-service.

You're absolutely correct, Robby. Artists NEED constant motivation and enthusiasm for what they do; it is their lifeblood.
That said, the way it's framed here, the latest and greatest thing that Ashirogi Muto didn't think up is a little frustrating to see so many times.
I guess I'm just waiting for them to break out ahead of the pack in a very real sense, and maybe I'm dissatisfied because I'm not getting that. Maybe I shouldn't be expecting something more substantial just yet, but it feels like we've been down this road before. The manga really is showing us every little step towards their goal, but I'm just feeling a lot of filler, I guess.
More matter, less art! …I would say. But who knows what this arc will bring?

Panty showing? Really? these people need to get laid

same here
Panty showing? Really? these people need to get laid
It's about the dreams of MEN!
Also, there are things that can't be conveyed in a 3 page preview and a 2 page synopsys.
We must trust Hattori!
-
**Unbelievably interesting!!
Costumes that make you want to cosplay!** A parade of cute girls and panty-flashes! But the fact that this is a fiece battle manga, and not a panty flashing manga is amazing!! Anime! Gamez! Card Gamez! Figurines! Unbelievably interesting!!
In Hattori we trust.
-
So, basically,
Ikkitousen.
Edit: Naaah, Ikkitousen is a panty flashing manga.
-
But it's a fierce battle manga with a shoddy attempt at storytelling my man Silence. It also managed to rake up dollars in merchandise too 8)
Hattori really has the right idea.

I've never read the manga, but did anyone else think of Ikki Tousen while Hattori was saying all of this? Apparently it's "a retelling of Kingdom of the Three Suns masquerading as softcore porn".
Edit: Damn it, Silence beat me to it and I was thinking about that since I read the chapter!

Maybe next time, Maron, hahaha
-
I'm laughing really hard right now. It's all good Maron. Some of us are just on the same spectrum enough for similar natural responses.
-
I liked this chapter. Apart from hattori´s "you´ll be our merchandising bitch" the age matter really reminded me of the writing world. The pressure put in "young promises" (that evaporate quite frequently) and having to be "the voice of a new generation or the sacred ancient author that you cannot go against except when he dies and then lesser writers can totally rape his legacy so they can gain a little acknowledgement.
-
I just can't get over the image of a room full of grown Japanese men obsessing over panties and how to best promote them.
I think there was a chapter in there somewhere.
-
That's exactly what I was thinking.
-
Maybe next time, Maron, hahaha
But I wanted to be first, you stole my moment you jerk :(
In all seriousness, that Hattori scene was definitely the highlight of the chapter for me. It'll be interesting to see how the new kid in the shadows is tied in with the old man.
-
I'm never ever going to understand the downright intense obsession Japan has over panties. Man, I remember way back towards the beginning where the story took jabs at manga like that, gleefully implying that the artists couldn't do anything other than that. But then of course they had the characters heaping praise on To-LOVE-ru, which is certainly no better. Ah well.
I am a bit amused by Nanamine's clone, though. You're just trying to get into a magazine, not take over the world.
-

Actually, it is in fact the first step in an elaborate plan to do just that, with the intent of generating revenue and startup capital through this magazine, its merchandising, and panties, in order to fund a giant 80 foot tall washing machine while tricking the entire world into switching over to boxers.
This is of course being orchestrated by a small genetically enhanced lab mouse wth an oversized cranium in a mechanical full sized man suit.
-
A Pinky and the Brain manga would be Eiji's greatest achievement.

ahahhahaha this sounds like an insane business model!
And the lab mouse is the cherry on top of the cake. -
The mystery guy is Nanamine's "more-evil" twin brother.
-
It's probably Near.
-
142 is out. goes off to read it
http://www.mangareader.net/bakuman/142/2
Mashiro's expression at the start is brilliant.
-
Blegh, why is Eiji on the cover instead of Mashiro's girlfriend? I guess she's such a bland pretty doll that the authors couldn't even have her eat watermelon in a goofy pose. Double blegh.
-
I'm really tired of Hiramaru taking up the chapter pages.
-
Yoshida part was best part for me.
I like the way he manipulates them. -
^He's been manipulating them the same way forever now. It's getting stale for me.
Finished it. Whoever that editor was… the one that spoke up... He gets 100 points. I was losing my sanity a bit as I thought everyone was like "OMGsoInteresting!" Kaya gets some points too, because she's actually cool.
