@Thousand:
Oda has stated that he flat out tells his new editors not to butt in his story (in an SBS I believe) and he does everything himself so it'd be his story and he couldn't blame anyone else for its flaws (which I personally think is PR hogwash and he does it because of his pride in having the world he created be his and his alone which I really see nothing wrong with but I digress). So no.
There's a difference between editorial edict and editorial advice.
One is saying "You have to do this idea I have" and the other is saying "You may want to consider making this part stronger".
And, if the editor is right, a good artist will listen to their advice. Stories can ALWAYS be better than their first draft. ALWAYS. And it usually takes a second, TRUSTED opinion to help figure that out. In matters of storytelling clarity, pace, and the needs of the magazine, thats what an editor is for.
Its a huge world of difference, and also the difference between a good editor and a bad one.
In Bakuman itself it was the difference Miura had to learn. He tried to force "comedy comedy comedy!" onto Ashirogi, instead of helping them find their strengths and emphasize them, like Hattori does.
