They DESERVE IT for destroying soo many good shows. Sorry, but they do.
They deserve to lose their jobs over some cartoons?
God damn it, you people…

maybe if they didnt destroy so many shows they would still be making money :getlost:
What? a recession? Naw.
Everyone has money and jobs! Believe it!
We're not in a recession just yet. Right now the economy is correcting itself. You'll know when we are in a recession. Look at history, it repeats itself.
Anyways, I don't think that's fair. People don't deserve to loose their jobs because they were told to edit a cartoon for broadcast.
Again that's not fair. They weren't destroying tv shows, they were Localizing cartoons for tv market. Which I guess depending on who "dedicated" the fan boy is to the original series can be called "destorying". Which by the way, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Sonic X did very very well among the age groups they were aiming at. And One Piece did moderately well too.
I didn't like what they did to One Piece either, but I don't think we need to hold a grudge against people who work there. I didn't mind holding a grudge to the company itself, because that's who ordered, produced, and created the dub. The workers are just workers.
It'd be like getting angry over FUNi translating a name different and then wanting our dear friend Mato to loose his job because of it.
This just in, people on the internet can be assholes. More news at 11.

Not true at all. Even an economic teacher I had back in High School two years ago said we were already in a recession even then, and this man studies the economy every day. Don't believe what the government says… a little FYI to anyone who doesn't know: the unemployment rate only covers a small percent of unemployed people who collect unemployment, not everyone who actually doesn't have a job.
But don't worry. This will not necessarily affect the sale of the DVDs, as we can see they are still selling well. It's because people learn how to budget to get what they want, despite how bad things really are. Not that everyone will choose an anime DVD over their next meal, of course...
Oh and I still won't accept that 4Kids "localized" anime. Cutting and editing is one thing, but rewriting plots is a whole other thing, not to mention taking out the original music, and not even releasing uncut DVD sets.
4Kids is no longer relevant to One Piece, or this thread.
This time next month we should be getting that magical sixth box set for the second season…

YESSSS and I can't WAIT xD My bank book is sad, but I'm happy!!!!

Welcome to the internet, enjoying your stay?
Even though my heart really goes to the poor 4kids employees, they DID brought it upon themselves. They should never have been so stubborn to not change their ways even when it was really obvious that they should have. Still, My wish they do make it out of this and learn from their mistakes and become better company. That they DO make GOOD Y7 FV Dubs, that wont chop the soul out of their shows anymore. And that cool can shows can have a chance to make it overseas and be successful here!
They are even offering uncut subs of their shows now, so not day may not be so far from today.

One more question:
Did they ever use any "I am rubber and you are glue" type deals?

see that's the problem, the employees are only following the rules of what upper management wants (a select few people). The employees didn't bring it on themselves for just doing what they're told to do.
The entire company is getting blamed for the actions of only a few.

The Government is the one who is telling people are a recession. Yes, times have got'n worst, but its not to the point of an actual recession. We're only really down by 10 to 20 percent. Give it a year or two, then we'll be in the real recession.
And I agree with Raffy.
I think that genuinely the good employees wont be out of a job if 4kids DOES come to collapse.

You just HAD to ruin the moment.
Oh, the horrors I've unleashed by uttering their name… :ermm:
Yeah, I'd much rather be talking about the awesome job Funimation has been doing…
...and should I order sixth voyage (cheaper) on Amazon or (quicker) on RightStuf, or somewhere else? Recommendations are appreciated!

I'd say Rightstuf.
Speaking of which, I just got an e-mail saying they're working on my order. Does that mean they're actually working on it, or is that just a standard "we don't have it yet, hold your stinkin' horses" type line?
we don't have your horses, so hold them already type line

Well whatever you say… but I stand by my point. Doesn't really matter much anyway I guess.

I thought as much. It's so nice of them to be so considerate.

Let me tell you all about another group of people who were just following orders…they were called Nazis~!
4kids employees=Nazis
4kids/Al Kahn=Hitler
On topic: Seriously though, it's cool that we finally got it confimred that there are gonna be a total of 7 sets in season 2...though the fact we got the Goat Island motif is another story. I'm still behind on the DVDs...I need sets 4 and 5. Oh well, my birthday is coming soon enough. I'll just bide my time for now and get my fill from any of the generous members who post up clips.
I need more opinions on Right Stuf vs. something else…I have trouble with purchases, so peer pressure should work out well here.
I'd have to go with Amazon for the immediate set, but I can't stress enough how much I recommend Right Stuf in the future. What you gotta do is wait for a Funi 40% off sale (the last one just past, but they usually have one about every 4 months), and buy the yearly Got Anime membership for $12; it takes an extra 10% off the the discounted price (in this case, $3 off the $30 sale price), and will pay for itself with four sets, leaving you with a card you can use for whatever else you want. Also try to preorder two sets at once to get free shipping (orders $50 up).

You will buy from RightStuf. Give your money purpose. I'll steal your money from you if you do not.
There.

Except that that point doesn't really apply given the huge gap in importance between the two.
Now, don't ever compare such a childish thing as over-editing a cartoon to freak'n Nazis…
Godwin's Law, anyone? Move along, nothing to see here…
Did… Did someone just compare 4Kids to Nazis?! The fuck?!
Got around to watching the first disk of S2V4 last night (Vivi pictures on the way :) ) and I am extremely unimpressed with Crocodile.
Not really the voice so much as the direction and script. They have him talking relatively fast and rough. Sub Croc sounds like a ruthless high society mastermind. Dub Croc sounds like a thug.
They didn't keep the laugh either. -300 points for Funi.
Count thing aside, the thug deal was kinda the point. Look at him; he's a friggin' crime boss, and a horribly arrogant scumbag. Thug is the way to go, here. He's being portrayed as a western image of a powerful, haughty crime lord.

Meh, I never really held anything against 4kids, personally. A joke's a joke and a reference is a reference. The only thing I hold against 4kids was never continuing the release of uncut DVDs of Yu-Gi-Oh and Shaman King. Other than that, I was able to enjoy their other show (hell even their version of One Piece) for what most of them were…brainless entertainment (even if they bastardized OP).
Amazon. Since you get Free Shipping over $25 dollars orders. Unlike Rightstuf would be $50 for free shippping. And plus Rightstuf charges for State taxes for us people in Iowa, which cost me $10, when I order Season 1, First Voyage. Which is some what a ripoff for me. So go for Amazon.
However, if you're like me, then you don't have to pay said tax, and thus RightStuf has the better deal.

It's people like you that cause 10% across the board budget cuts for us.
<–---- Gets his One Piece from DVD Pacific.

That's the lowest it's gone down since The Great Depression you dolt, what qualifies as a real recession for you?
Honestly, about the 4Kids stuff, many of the employees who work there are actually good actors when not at 4Kids, and some of them are good even when working with 4Kids. Veronica Taylor, Mike Pollock, Marc Diraison, etc.
But yeah, glad we're finally getting past 4kids for good.
MAybe if 4kids had better marketing and adapting of there shows then they wouldn't be in the position they are in now. Anyway Goat sex cover art yeah!

Ummmmm. No.
There is a world of difference between 'crime boss' and 'thug'. That's like saying a newspaper editor should sound like a paperboy or a general should sound like an infantry grunt.
He wasn't being portrayed as powerful, haughty crime lord, he was being portrayed as a powerful, haughty street thug.
I'm late to the Season Two Fifth Voyage party, but I got mine yesterday. I only had the cash to order it last week.
I just watched Episode 107 (Operation Utopia commences), and I was very impressed with it. It's the sort of episode I would use to counter people who would argue that the dub is bad. Not because of the great performances by the main cast, but because of how well cast the secondary characters are in this arc. Episode 107 was almost all focused on Kohza, Mr. 2 as the King, and Chaka's dilemma, as the rebellion finally erupted. A lot of the times in dub series even when the dub is done well the secondary characters often weigh it down, but at least that's not happening in this arc.
Of course the main character performances were great too, especially at the end where Crocodile finished explaining his plan. Vivi and Luffy's reactions were fantastic in the dub.
I know I'm happy to keep giving FUNimation my money.
Ummmmm. No.

I dunno what you're hearing. I heard crime lord. Especially in the episode where Baroque Works meets him for the first time, he sounds terrific there.
Ahh, finally, Season 2 Volumes 2-4 dropped to 25 bucks.
From his initial appearance in Arabasta.
Sub: Shut up, ignorant people. I just came to get that pirate's head.
Dub: Calm down, ignorant peasants. I only came to your pathetic little town for that pirate's head.
Sub: Well, call me what you will. Anyway, pirates, don't cause a ruckus in this country.
Dub: You peasants can call me whatever you want. But you, you pirates should have stayed out of this country. Now you're gonna pay.
Sub: I'm a pirate on a different level, you pig.
Dub: I'm a puppet, huh? I don't think so. Idiot pirate.
Sub Crocodile has class. He throws out two insults in that whole exchange. One as a tongue-in-cheek display to the townspeople to keep up the facade of the 'big bad pirate' who's actually a hero. (which also, was a facade). And the second as a final parting blow after displaying his clear superiority to the other pirate.
Dub Crocodile, on the other hand, has all the elegance of a 6th grader at recess.
Bully: "You're a stinky head!"
Dub Croc: "I'm a stinky head, huh? I don't think so. Idiot bully."

Your argument is based on the fact that in order to fit the same equivalent English sentence in the same amount of lip flaps, it was necessary to add more words. Sure, they could've used less insults, but in the end it doesn't matter. Croc is an arrogant douche in both versions. Class? He's just a cool crime lord with a smart intellect, but I wouldn't say he has class.
In conclusion, Croc is handled well in both versions.

You forgot Jason Griffith…..Im 100% serious, Griffith is good.
Im just pointing that out.

The idiocy of matching lip flaps as the cost of the script (especially when the Japanese don't give a !@$# in the first place) is neither here nor there. It's a problem, but decent script work can still overcome it.

Which you wouldn't tell listening to the dub.

I do not agree with you my good sir. As it is obvious that your a Sonic fan it doesn't surprise me, but Jason Griffith's voice acting is horrible IMO. It hardly shows any emotion at all in Sonic, Shadow, and Usopp, and Usopp sounds like Jet the Hawk in the dub. And yes…I was a Sonic fan before...but I lost hope for him and a glorious day came when I heard of One Piece, One Piece replaced him, and it's been exactly a year and a couple of weeks since that incident. :D Just pointing out my opinion and my "horrible tragic story".
….I really have to change my avatar and sig....i cant make a good argument without sounding like a sonic fanboy. But Griffith has improved tremendously and im not just talking Sonic, im talking about other roles hes played in.
Im waiting to get season 2 volume 7 so i can hear the end of Zoro's fight as well as Gum Gum storm. Ahhh I love FunPiece.

But those moments are in Sixth Voyage…
Also, I have to agree with you regarding Griffith. In the beginning, he was terrible. But around Sonic and the Secret Rings, he started fitting into the role.
As yes 6 that's right i was so quick to jump back into topic i knew i was going to make a mistake somewhere, but yea.
Griffith>>>Ryan

I disagree. As far as I know, Griffith has a LOT more experience in acting in more media than Ryan does. It's just a different take on the voice. In fact, it's not his fault at all, it's how he's directed. I think people give Ryan a bit too much credit. "Watch out. You're gonna crash. Aaah!" But I do agree that Jason made Usopp in the 4Kids dub quite unlikeable.
And if I didn't know any better, I wouldn't be able to tell Ryan and Jason apart.
Are you guys seriously trying to defend 4Kids Usopp voice? Seriously? Besides how HORRIBLE the dub already was, I only was able to make it through ONE episode, and once I heard how bad Sanji sounded, I didn't even TRY to watch it anymore. I did however hear Usopp, and HATED IT. He can do a great job on whatever else characters he played, I don't really care, but when it comes to One Piece and making Usopp sound like a flamboyant retard, that's where I draw the line. Thank god for Funimation, and thank GOD for Sunny Strait. He's the best American Usopp by a MILLION AND A HALF MILES.
Also, got my Season 2 dvd's 3 and 4, now only missing 5 xD I'm gonna wait and see if they drop the price on that one like they did the others..it's doubtful since it just came out, but ya never know XD
4-Kids Ussop sounded like he was stuck in puberty…. mentally. No range in his lines at all neither... Same thing for Sanji... Luffy, Nami.... Could be more, but I forgot about them due to the Funi dub. Hell, I even forgot Zoro's old voice and people said he was good....(I remember it being really smug)
