Though i was initially taking the piss, i think the mermaid will happen without a doubt but i think the tenryubutu (sp:?) is a good bet. think of it like this. the strawhats are considered evil, they come across a tenryubutu (sp:?) who feels like a prisoner and wants to get away and have an adventure. luffy says come with us then and they come and end up making enemies of the tenryubutu (sp:?) as a result. so instead of the usual end up beating up a tenryubutu (sp:?), they make a friend of one and recruit him into the straw hats. basically everything that (forgot his name) feared with Vivi. It seems so up Oda's street.

Well i'm assuming that they're all located on the "island", they like to flaunt their power there and i'm sure that one of the nobles sons'/daughters' isn't quite into the whole lauding attitude and would instead like to live a life away from it all as a normal person.

i´m totally sure the next nakama will be two things:
1. female (because the crew needs more beautiful women)
2. non-human-> mermaid.
[does not necessarily mean camie is going to join, although i´d like that thought because she´s cute.]

brook is the eight member though, Luffy doesn't count as a crewmember when numbering them… so the next will be 9th.
still after another nakama joins it is 9 + Luffy = 10. Thats how I meant it.

I hope the next nakama will be the last. And that we get a complete crew before entering the new world. 11 people on board the ship just seems a bit to much.

Well, Camie has made a big effort for the crew so far, is on good terms with Nami and Robin (for a female character, you must achieve this at least, see Vivi + Nami). Camie seems to have bad history with the place their on, not to mention is a really fast swimmer. She can summon fish, which already pleased Luffy once.
She lacks right now is combat skill…

I don't know about camie I mean how will she walk on land it'd be stupid if they always had to carry her. I think that hatchan feels he needs to protect camie even if she's with someone strong maybe (probably not likely) we might have the two final members join

And when has ability ever mattered to Luffy when he wants a new nakama? Also, Brook was pretty predictable, but he was just awesome. I'm not saying that Camie is going to join, but I don't think people should just write it off as impossible just because she hasn't shown any combat potential. If you want a list of people who seemed weak when they were asked to join we have Nami, Ussop, Gaimon, Vivi. I mean, who actually expected Nami to have any potential with her pole before the climatact? Everyone always felt that Ussop would eventually become a pretty skilled sharpshooter, but the skill of Sogeking came a bit faster then most people thought.
I really don't think Camie will join, but I wouldn't be against it if she did.

It may not stop Luffy from asking, but anyone who's joined has shown themselves capable of fighting. Usopp helped fend off Kuro's pirates and showed his sharpshooting prowess beforehand and, however weak Nami started off as, she was able to wield that tri-staff thing and was a competent their. Camie constantly gets captured and has to depend on Hatchi to save her.
Besides, she can't even walk.

I don't know if this has been said (and I have NO desire to read almost 100 pages), but I'll say it anyway.
What if Camie turns out to be half mermaid and half fishman, thus creating some kind of dues-ex-mechina loophole to the "No legs until 30" rule? At some point she would grow legs than go "ZOMG TAKE ME WITH U GAIZ".
Personally, I don't have much of an opinion about Camie. She could join the crew or stay behind; I don't really care.

Hmmm first post for me on this board ^^. I think It won't be an "odd" character as in a fishmen or similar next. We just had a cyborg and a talking skeleton (although I have to admit that Luffy seems to attract those kind of characters). My guess would be someone with a "scouting" ability or a similar talent, because so far if they did something they either had lots of help from locals regarding the topography. (Vivi with her knowledge about her homecountry, Konis and her father in Skypiea and Paulie and Kororo in Water 7). That would also be a nice addition for Nami to give her accurate information for her maps.
Incase that doesn't happen… most likely a marine officer or noble gone rogue and defying the World Goverment ^^, as it would so to speak be a nice addition to the current character trait (not regarding the skills) for the crew. -

True… I forgot about robin being able to grow eyes and ears where she wants to. Regarding brook... he isn't much of someone who could scout surroundings easily without getting noticed.

I can say with certainty that Camie won't be joining the crew. . .she got all flustered over Hacchi, so she won't be leaving him anytime soon.
Unless of course, Hacchi and Camie join the Strawhats. . .then my certainty is moot. However, figuring out what purposes they would serve is beyond my understanding. . .plus there's the whole Nami not forgiving Hacchi for what happened.
We've got a Captain, First Mate, Navigator, Marksman, Chef, Doctor, Archaeologist/Historian/Spy, Shipwright, and a Musician.
Not much left to fill except for being a deckhand.

a lot of people say somethings like hatchan won't join because nami won't forgive him. Well i don't think that's necessarily true I mean wouldn't that make it more interesting trying to win respect kind of like his dream would be to protect nami because of what he's done to her.
