Who is Duval?
-
who?who?who?Who?who?
-
Dupal is Dupal.
-
There is only one person whose dream was totally crushed by Luffy and then "declare" (by gin) that they will meet someday in the grandline..
krieg Well it makes sense.. -
oh my god, we already discussed it so many times in the spoiler thread and we're gonna discuss it again in the chapter thread.
so: diediediediediediediediediediedie your and your thread.
-
Feel like merging this.
But an individual Dupal thread seems unavoidable at this point.
My guess is… it's no one we've ever met before.
-
Me thinks its Arlong.. but Krieg sounds good aswell.. Who knows we are going to know eventually..
-
i wanted to make one with a poll before someone made one without
-
After reading the chapter it seems like Dupal is a Fishman. But whether it is Arlong or a new person is yet to be seen.
-
He is bound to have met a member of the Straw-hat crew sometime in the past. So it could be someone we know.
Or it is someone who was unimportant at the time they met him.
Or it is someone who met a Straw-hat before he joined the crew.
-
it can't be arlong, take a look at his hand on the last page, it's an human hand
but i must admit that the flag on the ship/town at the hand looks like arlong's flag -
murray24 is correct. There is no webbing between the fingers. Moreover, take a gander at the lead rider on page 17. He's human, which would make him an unlikely candidate for membership in any gang Arlong was head of. Finally, a close inspection of the excellent quality scan Binktopia provided (so quickly, too. Thanks again for the link, Battle Franky!) shows something interesting about Dupal's iron mask. The lower half is not a ventilated grille, as the shading seemed to imply. It's a single piece of metal. I'm going to reverse my earlier position and say that this is almost certainly Morgan. I can't make out a seagull logo, but that may be exactly what the shading was intended to cover up. Still, it would have been so cool if it were Jagi…
Usopp: (drawing the Big Dipper on his chest with a marker) I'm here to save the takoyaki merchant from you villains! I AM US-SHIRO!!
Riders: Old Cow?
-
Me thinks its Arlong.. but Krieg sounds good aswell.. Who knows we are going to know eventually..
safe to say it's not Arlong look at his hand
-
My first guess was Bellamy (though I still like to believe that his head got cut off). But Morgan is a nice idea too. Though I can´t think of a way how he could grow that strong to become a serious threat to the Strawhats now. But then again, I doubt that Duval will be a big obstacle after all.^^
-
maybe he is the famous chapter 500 surprise. Or he is just one of the guys one ivotas picture
-
Damn, how could I forget about his human hand. It's also interesting that they show his left hand, which still leaves open the possibility of it being Morgan
-
I'm sure he's Morgan. We can see Duval's left hand.
And Morgan's axe hand was the right.
Is it a clue ? -
This one is a tough one, his helmet design is similiar to the one of T-Bone, though T-Bone's morals seemed so noble and branded into him that I can't imagine kidnapping, revenge and all the other things to be his work, the fact that only his left arm is shown is interesting, as it may be something that hints it Morgan, and well Krieg is the one that has the story to match this guy…
Some people think he can be a new guy that was having his life destroyed by one of the SH before they beceme part of the SH, but that doesn't work out well, how could someone like that know that thae guy is part of the SH, and that they are going to pass this way...
-
What speaks for Krieg is that he actually seems to be entering and leaving the Grand Line through the Calm Belt, which would explain why he got there long before the Strawhats. But what speaks against him is that even though it is Luffy who defeated him, it was Mihawk who crushed his entire fleet. Still not ruling out the possibility though.
-
Well, I am glad somebody made this thread. I didnt want this crap cluttering the chapter discussion and plus people can talk about this if it is not revealed in the next chapter and etc.
My take, I can handle it being Morgan. The strawhats improved over time. Why cant He? I hate when people think villians always stay the same strength and the heros will blow them away when they fight later.
I am hoping it is a new character tho and with a grudge with either Sanji, Chopper or Nami. They could use some development before or during the fishman arc.
-
I'm sure he's Morgan. We can see Duval's left hand.
And Morgan's axe hand was the right.
Is it a clue ?It could also be a red herring to throw us off. Just like the design on the helmet.
-
The man that ruined his life is probably Sanji, Luffy, or Zoro, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it was either Ussop or Chopper. That would probably make for an interesting twist.
-
I'm not sure but i voted for kreig as to me its the most likely atm
-
You know, the fun part if it would be Bellamy is that he yet again would be raped quite easily right before the Strawhats set out on a trip to an island with strange environment.^^
-
I'm voting as he's Morgan. His sidestory was a long ago, and we haven't seen for a while.
But, if it's someone new, I think it could be related to Chopper, as his 5th person chapter didn't happened yet -
I like the fact that 4 people voted for Arlong, despite the fact that his nose doesn't fit inside the helmet. There's also the issue of Dupal's human hand.
-
The nose got chopped off and the hand is a Prosthesis.
=P
It's really Marco. WBs commander of the first division that wants Luffys help to Kill BlackBeard.
-
I also think it is Bellamy ,since:
-the Crew on the flying fish would fit, they really look like Bellamy's old Crew
-He lost his face(also literally as Sarquiss sliced him wich would explain the mask) and status because of Luffy.
-He's quite strong and actually thinks he defeated Luffy (and Zoro) once.and most importantly:
-It would move the story forward's since even though he got kicked out Bellamy has a conection to Don Flamingo, It would be the perfect setting for fighting the next Shichibukai.
-
I'm thinking Dupal's name comes from Alexandre-Vincent Pineux Duval, a French Sailor/Dramatist.
Judging by that, it might be a new character, as it would be weird for Oda to use a famous Seafarers name for someone we already know.
OOR.
Dupal comes from Sniper Island and the man who ruined his life is Sogeking. EPIC. -

Yeah I thought Bellamy too. Morgan is a great idea but they would have mentioned his big axe in place of his arm: they would refer to him as a masked guy with a huge axe or something like that. Well, we will know if he ain't Morgan in the next chap if we can see his right hand.
Moreover, how Morgan would know about SH's Grant Line path? This masked guy should be someone that SHs knew in the GL.Points for Bellamy:
- he (probably) was left by Don Flamingo and his crew (hence he has now a new crew).
- life ruined by luffy.
- the armor can be an enhancement for his DF.
Anyway, whoever he is, why does he need the mask? Maybe because he is known in the Grand Line and doesn't wanna be discovered. That's might be another point for Bellamy.
-
Morgan… first i thought in wapol, but i think that morgan is possible
-
I immediatly thought Morgan too. But then, it doesn't explcitly say which "man" he is after.
-
I assume it's Morgan, because he did escape and that was never followed up on. It could be Krieg though, but I don't think so because Luffy didn't really "ruin his life" as much as wirth Morgan so much as Mihawk did and Luffy just foiled his attempt to get a new ship.
Hadn'd considered Bellamy before. Could be, but I'm still leaning strongly towards Morgan.
-
Morgan… first i thought in wapol, but i think that morgan is possible
Have you read his cover story arc? Wapol is a rich bastard now. He has no reason for a grudge.
-
I don't think it'd be Morgan. He is far too weak to cause any threat and how can he have gotten so far into the grandline and settled down so quickly? Plus, it's Helmeppo's dream to defeat Morgan, and Oda wouldn't want Luffy to crush that. I'd say it's someone we've seen before, but can't really remember.
I wonder how Jinbei will fit in all this. I expect him to appear later on in the arc.
-
Morgan had a sidestory, and nonetheless, I doubt he is strong enough to make it that far in the grand line…
It's most likely Krieg... Imo, him not getting a cover story is a clue too. Since if he did, chances are we would know he if had been in the Flying Fish Riders or not.
-
Morgan had a side story for the purpose of Helmeppo and Koby fighting him.
I just have the feeling Oda is going to make us asume people like Arlong and Krieg, and then throw out a random character who we least expected.
-
Perhaps dupal is someone who has the strawhats mistaken for some other group of people.
-
Perhaps dupal is someone who has the strawhats mistaken for some other group of people.
Wait… you mean someone Dupal mistook the Strawhats for? Like Shanks?
-
Edit: Oops, I didn't realize this thread existed. I'll repost my analysis from the chapter thread here.
Let's try process of elimination:
1. Dupal can't be a fishman: His hand isn't webbed. So that means it can't be Arlong or any of his crew.
2. Dupal can't be any very large, musclebound character or anyone with distinct hands: His hand is of normal size/proportions, so that rules out Krieg, Wapol, Morgan, Pearl, Kuro and Mr. 1 who had meaty or long fingered hands. It also rules out Buggy, Foxy, and the nyaban brothers who had gloved/veiny/clawed hands.
3. Dupal likely isn't anyone the Strawhats met recently. Sure his flying fish crew is new to the area, but it still takes some time to gather people behind you and set up shop. I would argue that this rules out anyone met after Skypiea.
So what's left? Dupal is a male character of average build that one of the Strawhats wronged some time between leaving Usopp's village and traveling back from skypiea. Also, it may just be shading, but Dupal's hand seems of a slightly dark complexion.
Good options:
-Gin: Fits all the criteria, may have developed a grudge against Sanji for some reason after leaving the restaurant. Gin was a badass on par with Sanji, so he would certainly be strong enough to gather a crew around him.
-Shura: The skypiean priest that rode the giant bird. His mode of attack sure was similar to that of the flying fish riders and he may have developed a grudge against Luffy for defeating Enel, even though it was Wiper who had defeated him.
-Ohm: The Skypiean priest with the extendable sword. Zoro beat him and who knows, he could still have a grudge against the guy who got him thrown down from the white white sea.
-Bellamy: In my opinion, this is the best option. Bellamy was and up and coming Pirate until being taken down so handily by Luffy. The mask can be explained by Doflamingo merely scarring up his face with Sarquiss' sword. The leather jacket and stylish shades of the Flying Fish rider certainly match with the stylish hangers on that Bellamy collected before Jaya.
If anyone should hold a grudge against Luffy, it'd be Bellamy. Also, his spring fruit had sooo much untapped potential that it'd make a lot of sense for Oda to bring Bellamy back with newly developed gear-like powers. I suppose Sarquiss would be a valid option as well, but he seems less likely than Bellamy thematically and wore weird striped gloves.
-Other than these four, there really aren't any good options among known characters for Dupal's hidden identity. The other possibility is that Dupal is a new character from the past life of one of the strawhats. Zoro certainly wronged enough people back in the day and considering how well versed the Riders were on the Thousand Sunny, an old rival of Franky or someone who's life was hurt by his Battle Franky's are valid options as well.
-
The biggest twist would be if "the man that ruined" Dupal isn't one of the strawhats. But Dupal need the strawhats either as allies to defeat him or as bait for the one that did.
Dupal doesn't say who the man he wants to kill is. Infact he doesn't even say he is on the ship he was waiting for. He just implies he is.
Ofc he could also be a dumbass that thinks the mugiwaras are Shanks and his crew and doesn't know Shanks is called red hair.
-
A lot of good speculation here, but it all just seems too obvious. I bet this man and his target will be people nobody even guesses.
-
i voted unknown, but im kinda hoping for krieg. i think the 1st time i saw one piece it was a krieg anime episode… ive got a soft spot for him... seems like most just plain hate him
-

How can you rule the possibility out that it is a large character by looking at his hand? There´s nothing and I mean NOTHING about the hand that would rule that possibility out. We just see a left hand that could belong to anybody of the characters you just ruled out. Just wondering on what clues you base that argument.
-Gin: Fits all the criteria, may have developed a grudge against Sanji for some reason after leaving the restaurant. Gin was a badass on par with Sanji, so he would certainly be strong enough to gather a crew around him.
I like that idea. Never thought about Gin´s development that way but there´s no reason it wouldn´t work. My interpretation of Gin´s statement was that he will come back as a good guy when they meet next time but then again, his actions at Baratie might have caused him only pain and suffering in the consequence and he regrets having disobeyed Krieg back then. And instead of blaming it all on himself he blame´s the one who made him go that far who would be Sanji. Makes pretty much sense when you think about how lunatic people can get when they lose everything. Good guess, but still I hope that´s not him.^^
-
You forgot Chuu
he practically got his face owned by Usopp's fire star and hammer…
-
Also, his spring fruit had sooo much untapped potential that it'd make a lot of sense for Oda to bring Bellamy back with newly developed gear-like powers.
Gear-like…. Oh lord, I hope not. >.>
But yeah, I voted for Bellamy. At first, I thought Krieg, but then I read all of the posts so far and Bellamy seems more likely to me now. He could tie in a Doflamingo appearance, and I'd say Luffy owning him in one punch after talking all that sh*t in front of all those people would be pretty devastating to him and his huge ego. Not to mention his defeat made Doflamingo lose any last shred of respect he might have had for him. So yeah, Luffy ruined his life. Meanwhile, with Krieg, it was really Mihawk who ruined his crew and his life, not Luffy so much.
Of course, I'm talking as if Luffy is the only one in the crew who could be the culprit of ruining Dupal's life, which isn't the case, so it could easily end up being no one we know or could have thought of. :P
-
Guys, guys, guys. The body shape? The Helmet? Those Hands? It's so obviously…Is cut off by static
Gaimon -
He is probably some secondary vilain, like always. Oda likes to build characters which we think will be the major bad guy till the last part of the arc where we finally meet the boss. I vote for Enel though.
-
- life ruined by mugiwara
- not a fishman
- and he's left handed.
There's only 2 person who meets this criteria!
-

Enel seems to be doing pretty fine on the moon though. He pretty much got what he wanted, so he doesn´t really qualify for "ruined my life".

who is the second left handed person?
Crocodile is right handed, isn't he?
