The Alabasta movie wasn't THAT bad…in art terms. o.x
But like some Japanese-readers have been saying--reanimation or something around that sounds good to me.
Personally,I hated the art when they made that Arc.
One Piece The Movie: Episode of Chopper
-
-
Seriously though there's probably only enough material in a Chopperman story for a TV Special or a short like "Jango's Dance Carnival".
-
I personally liked Movie 8. I thought that it was alot better then Movie 7.
-
Movie 8 was too crammed for me.
But I loved Movie 7. (Only because my fangirl side enjoys the LuffyxNami moments.) -
@Lobster:
I personally liked Movie 8. I thought that it was alot better then Movie 7.
Cause it had Vivi?
Now, I'm a Vivi fan…but her inclusion does NOT make a movie good or bad.
-
He can build a time machine if he wants.
No. Franky would BE the time machine. Powered by cola of course. He'd use Coup De Vent to reach 88 miles per hour.
-
Vivi will most likely be on it, she was more active in Drum than, say, Usopp after all.
Honestly, i don't think this arc has the potential to become a movie like Alabasta had. But hey, maybe that's the good thing. -

Honestly, i don't think this arc has the potential to become a movie like Alabasta had. But hey, maybe that's the good thing. It could be a great movie if they somehow packed it into aleast two hours and didn't chop everything out.
It could start out with Vivi getting shot and dying a horrible death. Perfect movie in itself right there. -
Well, if this is a movie, it would be less crammed and possibly better than Movie 8 since Alabasta was about 39 episodes, while Drum was just 13. If they add Robin and Franky and take away Vivi, I'll be pretty mad though. The flashback idea is even stupider.
The only reason I'd actually want to see this movie is for Chopper's backstory, which would probably be 10-15 minutes long as a pose to the 2 full episodes we had in the televised version. They probably would also speed up Hiruluk's death scene and not include Ave Maria like they did with Gomu Gomu Storm in Movie 8.
Also, why would the reason for doing this movie be for better animation. Drum Island's animation in the TV version was beautiful, too beautiful to go back and do over. If any arc needs a remake due to shitty or old animation, it's Little Garden. My eyes bleed just watching those episodes. (not that I want a Little Garden movie or any more arc remake movies for that matter)
Btw, I would like to see Blackbeard and his crew ravaging Drum Island though, maybe we'd even get to see Blackbeard using his Yami Yami powers.
-
@Lobster:
If Vivi isn't in it… this movie just might suck...
No wait... I...
Alright people, this movie will probably suck. But It does have potential. I'd feel better it I was directing it though... >.> I don't trust Toei anymore. I just don't know what to say, except that they better not screw with the characters in the crew.
WORST CASE
Franky is in the Crew. No Vivi, No Carue, No Robin.
BEST CASE
They use this movie to show off BLACKBEARD destroying Drum Drum Island. Also Vivi is in the crew, with no Frany or Robin. Also, Nami doesn't steal the key to Whaphol's ammunition room, and Luffy fights SUPER WHAPHOL!!!
Super Whaphol = Mario+Mushroom+King Koopa
Pure genius. :w00t:
-
If it doesn't turn out like movie 8, then things could actually turn out well if they do it right. I'd LOVE to see Drum Island with high quality animation, especially certain scenes like the avalanche, the "sakura" at the end, Hiriluk's speech, basically any kind of snow fall. So visually anyway, we're in for a treat.
Working Franky into the movie, it said he'll be in at the end, so yeah it seems like it'd be a giant flashback and at the end we go to the future where Franky and Robin are now with the crew, and at the end they're on the Thousand Sunny.
Now, as to why they're making this movie and doing another rehash of old material, maybe this isn't the only reason, but One Piece's success in America could possibly be a small aspect of why they're doing this. With Funi dubbing movie 8, they get to touch the Alabasta stuff which they can't do anything with for a while, and now Funi gets to go back and do some Drum Island material. I'm sure it's not the main reason Toei is revisiting old material, but I wouldn't rule it out as A reason considering they seem somewhat more interested in getting One Piece to be succesful in the US now.
-
to me this movie ,IMO, If it does include robin and franky ,its like saying.. The Creweither already sailed around the grand line and came back to Drum isle or .. The Shipright and Archeologist joined first before the doctor.. creating confusion for OP fans everywhere

That would be actually awesome, even tough I never cared that much about Super Wapol, but who knows, maybe he becomes stronger than Crocodile…
And Blackbeard using his darkness would also be awesome, specially with the not so higher movie quality, and considering there would be just one episode with Blackbeard after the fillers, then that would be nice.
PS: Super Wapol = Kirby + Nuclear Bomb + Bowser. :P
-
Drum Arc is already the best animated arc in the series, how much more quality can be added?
-
Well, from what I read in the title alone "Urgent Bulletin! Spring 2008: Determined for the Movie's Official Release!!" and then later on "Episode of the Island of Perpetual Winter: The 'Drum Island' arc will be a animated theatrical film!!"
Next to Luffy: "The main character this time is Chopper!"
This is basically the stuff that my eyes can read. (The blurriness, that is. If it was a bit clearer, I could translate the whole page. XD)
One Piece's official release has already been set for next spring! This time it'll be the "Drum Island" arc! The episodes where Chopper joins the crew will be made into an animated film with completely new high quality pictures!
-
I seriously hope the Franky thing is something like this:
1. We see a flashback of Blackbeard heading toward an island (Drum)
2. Ace stops at Water 7, seeking Blackbeard.
3. Ace encounters Franky, the two have an exchange.
4. Franky is inspired by Ace's Mera Mera abilities, creates fire breath device.
5. Ace leaves Water 7
6. Switches back to Blackbeard and crew, who have proceeded to bust up Drum. We see a clip of Wapol and crew running away.
7. Ace arrives in Drum, meets Dalton. No Blackbeard. Leaves a note for Luffy and heads to Arabasta.I hope that's the most likely scenario.
Otherwise, I hope the movie adds some things, like a little background on Hiruluk and Wapol's father (whom Dalton mentioned as being a good man), and a fight for Usopp. Also, a "What are the Baroque Works people doing during this arc" segment would be nice.
-
Blackbeard attacking Drum…it's possible, it could be a quick "for the fans" addition, like the Robin-Merry scene at the end of movie 8. And it's part of that arc storyline after all.
As for Robin and Franky..i doubt it.Maybe it's just me, but i feel Drum arc lacks enough build up for a movie, so i'm really hoping they add things and take more liberties than in their last try.
-
So, I take it all the movies like this are gonna have a similar title to "Episode of -Arc Title-".
-
Maybe it's a new story with Franky that has connections to the Drum Island arc. Strong connections.
Sounds like another Movie3. groan
-

I was thinking the SAME exact thing earlier, it's very possible this came up during Funi and Toei's "negotiations".
Also, I'm generally an optimist, so I generally see this as "Yay! Drum Arc and Chopper's backstory in better animation!" Especially after seeing one of the Oyabun Luffy episodes (296 I think) with the Sakura Tree. The petal effects they used was just GORGEOUS, and I'd love to see the same thing applied with Snow/Sakura Petals.
So I was thinking of how they'd at least start the movie (it was a slow Friday night for work as always) so here's a rough "script":
–----------------
TOEI ANIMATION LOGO-Movie starts with a close up of a fire. Camera zooms out and it's Mr. 3's Candle Service set on fire.
-Ms. Valentine is punching Usopp "You've done it now" Readies her Guillotine.
-Vivi and Nami burst out the fire rescuing him (you were asking about Nami fanservice, no better part of the movie then this)
-Zoro finishes off Mr. 5
-The whole Luffy vs Mr. 3 "Instinct" is skipped, just shows Luffy finishing him off.
-I figured either they'd insert Sanji here somehow (kinda like Bon Clay's entrance in Movie 8) or he'll show up suddenly, wondering how everyone's doing and "find" the Eternal Pose to Alabasta.
-The Giants and the fish are cut out and they simply cut to everyone back on the ship ready to go to Alabasta, Nami's skills allow them to avoid a huge cyclone, but then she collapses.
-Nami in bed, Vivi asks them about anyone with Medical knowledge, yada yada, Vivi says they need to go find a doctor aaand CUT TO OPENING CREDITS.
-Opening Credits consist of a scenic montage of Drum, with Hiking Bears, Lapahn, Bighorn townsfolk, and finally to Wapol's castle, it zooms in on a window where Chopper is shown making medicine.
-Cuts back to Luffy and Co. with Luffy's "Can you see a doctor?"
-First Wapol confrontation here.
And pretty much from here on in, it's basically the same as the Anime, with some of the "slower" scenes taken out. When Dalton describes Blackbeard they can actually go into a full flashback showing his pillaging instead of just "mysterious shadows". And they'd probably skip a lot of the Lapahn fight from just one trying to antagonize them to just all the big ones attacking first.
And yeah that's what I thought would be pretty cool myself, I'm not caught up on the whole Ace/Blackbeard thing, so I have no idea.
-
man, they must be really low on new movie ideas for them I keep doing this (which makes me worry about the fillers! lol)
Not that I'm complaining, I liked this arc! It's just I was excited to see Franky
! and the thousand sunny in it! But who knows, maybe they will in some way
also…
! I doubted Brook would of been in this movie anyway, he hasn't officially joined in the manga yet plus I don't think the anime could get up to that point in the manga before the actual movie comes out.
! Maybe for movie 10? Unless that's another arc movie! >.< -
Movie 9 will be just another remake? Fucking.. . .damnit! This sucks! If Movie 8's suckitude is any indication, this is just a way to market the Drum stuff to America. Lame.
I'll take an original story over something I've seen already. The only possible exception to this would be turning Lucci vs. Luffy into a movie. Which it (almost kinda) deserves.
-
Intersing choice for the next movie. I rather they did Arlong or Kuro for a movie. The one scene I hope they do a good job on it's before the final battle with Luffy protecting Dr. Hilluk's jolly roger from Wapol's attck. I also wished they went and did a different movie instead with Franky part of the crew. But we know that we can't get everything in life.
-
How dull. I wasn't too thrilled about the Alabasta remake - I thought it sounded very boring as well - but this is just unbelievable. Why, exactly, do we need a condensed version of a story that was done perfectly fine the first time? Screw the better animation; the important thing is that it won't have as much content or heart as the original. Just give us an original story.
-
I think people are taking the entire thing after movie 8 too seriously. Sure, they could have been thinking of of movie 9 being like most of the movies, but it is not that hard to believe that they dropped the idea and went with this route. I don't see Franky being involved in this.
-
Wait, the Drum Arc? I was hoping for Skypeia… Oh well... At least there's a chance to see the Kuro Arc...
-
I don't see Franky being involved in this.
Although in the grand scheme it is entirely possible he won't be, his VA will most certainly be. He's an official part of the main cast and although he could assume another role, it also seems odd not to take advantage of a new crew member.
We shall see.
-
DO NOT WANT.
Please oh please let this be an OVA! I, like many others, was hoping for some Franky… And not rewritten into the story.
Drum was, like, my favourite arc. I would hate for that to happen.
-
Pure genius. :w00t:
Aww stop feeding my ego ^^;
PS: Super Wapol = Kirby + Nuclear Bomb + Bowser. :P
I would have said Bowser, but Whaphol is a "King" ^^ so I said Koopa. :D
EDIT: Ohh, I just thought of something. In the Drum Arch, Vivi has a flashback to the "Court of Kings". There they talk about Dragon. Is it possible for Dragon to be worked into movie 9?
-
I assume they'll start the movie with Nami already sick and in bed and them looking for a doctor. Unless they want to do more Vivi fanservice, and then they'll include all that "this ship's fastest speed" etc etc bs.
Honestly, I'm a little dissapointed. Plus the phrase "Chopper Fanservice" makes me think wrong thoughts. There will almost definitley be a chopperman short accompanying this movie, which may be redeeming in that I sort of miss the shorts for OP movies.
I wanna see NEW stuff in a OP movie. Boo.

But didn't they say "Retellling in a completely original way"? Maybe they actually meant something as hilarious as a Luffy-Version of what Happened. :P
And yeah, "Chopper Fanservice" is a very weird word to use, but include porche on it at it would be even more freakier.
-
Chopper enters a dream world/psychological state of mind inter-crossing with the time-space continuem into an odd and distorted world that combines numerous memories, all taking place in Drum Island.
Like a combination of movies 3 & 6.
-

So "Super Wapol" would be taken down by a Jet Bazooka?
-
Wow…didn't see this coming. I too would prefer it if they tried to write original One Piece adventures for their movies rather than rehashing preestablished canon stories. Film #8 remake was only mediorcre at best, which doesn't really instill me with confidence Also, this one has the possibility of being the first movie that doesn't include all of the "current" strawhats. I sure hope Robin or Franky are included in some form in the film.
Also, I wonder if Vivi will be in it, since she could easily be written out of it.
-
Well, Movie 8 was mostly made for the new dub (Proof is that it's the first one they will do…) So what's the point of this one? Is it to show Monster Chopper's origination? Or is it just for Vivi? (Think about it, she has been appearing more recently, with the fillers and that...)
Or maybe it's to show Wapol getting pwned... IN HD 3D BACKGROUNDS AND CGI EFFECTS!!!
-
^Srsly don't have this genocentric, americanized view on the world. The Japanese creators rly dont care enough about the american fanbase to create an entire OP movie with them in mind. It just happened to work out this way…
It's weird that people complained about the movies being too different from the manga, now they're the same and more complaining? I never had much problem with the movie scripts so I wish Toei'd give up this recap crap and do more originals. But then again it'll just hype up the anticipation when they actually decide to do another original movie.
-

Wait, isn't Franky's Seiyuu Bon Kurei's? That may be where everyone's getting confused.
-
Franky's VA is Bon Kurei and Jango…
-
Really wish they would go back to original story stuff but I guess this gets them in the theaters in Japan. (considering Movie 7 didn't pack the houses from what I heard) That and the reindeer is merchandising whether Oda likes it or not.
But I like the ideas of the "Drum Arc: Luffy Edition" (though he probably would just have Franky melt the snow)…or maybe a scene of Blackbeard destroying Drum with some Yami-Yami fanservice.
-

My same toughts. It's just ridiculous that people think like that when Toei gave a damn about the American Fanbase, and I bet their "surprse" was mere sarcasm at all. Anyways, I doubt that 4kids damage could be fixed, pretty much, the DVDs would be solely aimed at true fans, and Viz is focusing more on Naruto, so I doubt the Manga could help a lot.
And seriously, this hype for the movie may be because:
A) They actually got a considerable amount of money from the 8th movie. (Hey, face it, One Piece quality is not that great when compared to other animes, so maybe hardcore fans liked the better animation..)
B) Both Chopper's Monster Point and Blackbeard's Yami-Yami-No-Mi created an impressive impact in the Fanbase. And there could also be the plot device of "what would have happened if Wapol actually got his hands on the weapon storage?". That's far better than an "Arabasta with a different ending" or whatever they were promoting for the last movie.
C) They are too lazy, dried after making up ridiculous ideas for fillers….
D) Godzilla's movie are in hiatus for the next 50 years, so One Piece had to replace it's legacy with the chessyness of remakes.
E) Chopper became the "New" Jigglypuff, ubberly popular with Japanese girls, or maybe Toei hope to repeat the overall "pokemon impact" with younger audiences...
-
Maybe, if we get super lucky, Luffy retelling Drum Island from his point of view will be the short that plays before the actual movie…
Actually, that might make some sense, since Toei doesn't usually make a big announcement for the next movie until around October. And they should totally rehire Hosoda Mamoru/the rest of the Movie 6 staff.
-
Well, Movie 8 was mostly made for the new dub
Yeah. Seeing as how work began on it two years before Funimation acquired the license.
-
Yeah. Seeing as how work began on it two years before Funimation acquired the license.
THANK YOU! I love how so many people think anime is made in a matter of weeks or months, a single anime episode takes quite a long time to do.
-
Maybe they'll remake Drum with Movie 6's art style?
Well I can hope.:P -
If Vivi's just gonna bitch the entire movie I don't want her in it =/
maybe the movie starts with Chopper being upset about his bounty… that would tie in the bounties and Franky... THEN the flashback. but who knows, I like Chopper so I hope they do this right
-
Drum would probably work much better as a movie, but still…. gay.
Then again, I've found most OP movies since #2 to be relatively unwatchable anyway.
-
That's a negative Ao Kiji…I saw something and it was definately NOT movie 6 stuff...but I may be wrong..who knows...
;-; why dont they make a movie about Robin or Franky? They made one about Zoro...and Chopper...and I think the second one was a bit centered around Nami...shrug
-
If we are lucky maybe Luffy will be telling the story and he will get all the villans mixed up and say "thats when chopper beat Don Kreig with monster point."
-
Because Zoro is the 2nd most popular character in the series.
Chopper is the fourth. A sanji centered movie is wayyyy more likely than something about Robin or especially Franky who didn't break the top 15.. -
Damn, sorry about that… My friend went on while I was doing something and posted that... He's lucky I found out now and not when he was here...
