Oh, I always thought his name was meant as a referance to the drink.
General 'Four Emperors' Discussion

@Mr.:
Oh, I always thought his name was meant as a referance to the drink.
No, it's pronounced Guh-in, not Jin. It means silver in Japanese.
Part of the reason 4kids changed his name in their dub was because of people getting the same notion you did.
-
Gold Roger still would be included though dead… Ironically those 4 guardians started off as Chinese Gods. There were 5, the fifth was the Gold Dragon... Anyone know the show Beyblade? Very much a lot of refs there to the 4, then 5 in the last and third season when Tyson paired up with Daichi (Tyson had the Blue dragon, Daichi the Gold).
Japanese have adopted many Chinese things into their culture over the centuries... :/

Awesome
so this really does fit in the OP verse
since there was Gold Roger then all these other guys came out
I'm hoping there is a black yonkou that Blackbeard takes out for his "rightful" title -
I think Roger's nickname was gold because…that was his name.
I like the four guardian of whatever idea, though perhaps Kaidou has a black theme?

-
A tar Logia would be pretty awesome.
And yeah a black theme would fit with what Moria said about the true nightmare being in the New World.
He seems quite the ominous bastard that Kaidoh.
-
Whatever Kaidou's power is, it has to be something capable of at least nullifying Moria's power for the two of them to have fought to a relative standstill (judging by comments by Moria as well as what was said when the shadows were released, it would seem that Moria's failure was less because of lack of strength on his part and more because of the lack of it on his crew's part).
The most obvious answer, the Yami Yami Fruit, isn't available. So whatever Kaidou has, he either doesn't cast a shadow for whatever reason or is capable of making cancelling out his shadow. Probably some sort of light producing Paramecia.
-
Or a tar logia.
To make his shadow disappear.
-
Does it state whether Moria's defeat was an absolute slaughter or does it just state Kaidoh got the better of him?
-
@Archibald:
Does it state whether Moria's defeat was an absolute slaughter or does it just state Kaidoh got the better of him?
It said that they fought evenly for a while
similar to Shanks and Mihawk
-
Well if that's true than that could very well knock Moria up/down a Tier depending on how strong Kaidoh was back than in comparison to the other Emperors and how strong he is now.
-
[[QUOTE=Mr. All Sunday;774117]Or a tar logia.
To make his shadow disappear.
It might make it difficult to find, but it wouldn't disappear altogether.
Tar seems better suited to being a Paramecia like the Doru or Awa Fruits than an actual Logia really, but even then, I have to wonder if there's a way to depict it in action in a way that doesn't look like the Yami Yami Fruit's effects.
@Archibald:
Does it state whether Moria's defeat was an absolute slaughter or does it just state Kaidoh got the better of him?
Judging by his ranting about needing a crew and the statement about them fighting evenly, the most likely answer is that Moria's crew of the time couldn't match Kaidou's. While the two might have been evenly matched when they went head to head, Kaidou plus his crew was enough to force Moria out of the New World in the long run.

The notion for the Chinese Mythological Directions for the Yonkou is interesting but another person in the Vegapunk forums has the better connection concerning the Color Scheme.
I believe the Admiral Connection has a bit of sense to it.
-
Mind summarizing it?
Their forums don't seem to be cooperating right now.
-
Mind summarizing it?
how 'bout copying and pasting?
"We all know that Oda likes using Myths, Legends and Fables (fable backwards = Elbaf btw) and converting them, and as i was reading some old chinese myths when somthing hit me.
There are said to be 4 seas in chinese mythology North, South, East and West….(hmmm that sounds familure)
They in turn are represented by four colors Yellow, Blue, White and Red....(hmmmm those colors are familure too..)
They have also been represented by different animals over time including a Monkey, a Bird, a Dragon, and a Dog....(that was when something pinged)
A north sea with a yellow monkey =Admiral Kizaru??
A south sea with a blue bird = Admiral Aokiji??
A west sea with a red dog = Admiral Akainu??Which just leaves the East sea with a white dragon
This is all speculation but it would explaine why Dragon is the most wanted man alive. After all if one of the World Goverments top people defected and turned against them they would probably want him dead no matter what...
Also considering how much Garp was trying to train Luffy into becoming a Marine its a safe bet to say he did the same with his own son.
EDIT 1
Plus another titbit of info i'v found is that the 4 seas are also assiciated with the 4 seasons. Unfortunatly i havent been able to find out which ones they are associated with, but we do know that Aokiji has the Akuma no Mi power of Ice = Winter?, and maybe, just maybe, Dragon has some sort of Kaze Kaze no Mi power, we saw a huge Typhoon hit Louge Town when he appeared, and Typhoon season is in the Autumn....
EDIT 2
A little bit more info on my theory...
Japan also has mythology around 4 seas they are all represented by different color dragons, 3 colors are the same as in china red, yellow, and blue, but the 4th one is BLACK and not white...
IF Dragon was an admiral he would have worn white, but everytime we've seen him he was wearing black....(i think)
Maybe a Yin Yang type thing.....?good? White dragon becomes ?evil? black dragon...
White = good = World Government???
Black = evil = Revolutionarys???
(in WG opinion)please remember that this is all speculation and theory.....
EDIT 3
I forgot to mention that the Black Dragon in Japanese mythology can also summon Typhoons.
EDIT 4
Hmmmm.... this ain't to do with dragon... sort of... but i'v noticed that the two Yonkou that we know the names of have colors in there names as well. RED hair Shanks and WHITEbeard....i wonder if the other two have colors as well i.e. yellow and blue to go with the 4 seas myth also....maybe.......
" -
Meh, Skarlath is the only one making the most sense here. Of course, if this ever turned up as a whole section of the SBS or something, Oda would either brush it off and say it was a coincidence, or actually acknowledge it.
Still, I believe it.
-
Seeing as how the Dragon King of the East is the most powerful Dragon King (at the very least, he rules the largest sea) as well as the White Dragon, wouldn't Sengoku be a more logical choice for that role than Dragon because of his connection with the other Admirals?
Far as the discussion of seasons go, those also apply to the Four Symbols.
-

Be amazed as I reveal the "hidden" source of the "deep" meaning behind the Admirals…........again.
-
I like to hear about this sort of speculation myself simply because it gives me a new insight into Chinese folklore even when things obviously don't match up (for one thing, the Four Emperors being representative of the Chinese cardinal directions is flawed because Shanks is from West Blue rather than the South Blue that would match his coloration).
Plus, there's always a chance that Oda started out with a particular idea and then expanded it later when he realized that it fit a larger pattern.
-
If the WG killed ace wouldn't that disrupt the balance of powers then? I know that Whitebeard would still be Yonkou, but he'll be pissed and try to take out the WG. Then once Whitebeard beats down WG, then there would be no marines or shichibukai.
I like the idea of the having three great powers, but if one power were to dominate the other, than there would not be a balance. So yeaaah
Also we see that once WG sees one shichibukai down, they try to get another one. SOOO, if one Yonkou was down, would the WG try to get another one?????. So, it doesn't make sense to kill ace or even have a bounty on his head. I'm so confused. I guess we'll wait to see what the WG would do. I'd love to see this great incident that will happen, and hope that would explains a lot.
-
No it wasn't. It's called "hero water" or something like that. Chapter 196.

By the way, do you think we could see this water in the future? Maybe this water is something very important? Maybe WhiteBeard was using something like that?I'm pretty sure that whole scene was put in to make Crocodile look like an even bigger asshole.
-
@Mr.:
I'm pretty sure that whole scene was put in to make Crocodile look like an even bigger asshole.
That sounds like EVERY scene with Croc in it
-
One must wonder if Whitebeard will do anything about Ace's imprisonment.
-
Oh, probably. I mean, he's supposed to come down on anyone that hurts his "children" like hard rain, so hopefully he'll be smashing down some walls and giving us some manly toughness panels.
-
Ah yes, how I love manly man panels. Maybe it'll be a co-opt between the Straw Hat's and a Whitebeard division (doesn't he command an entire fleet/armada?)!!!
-
@Mr.:

it must be. i always thought that this was pretty pointless
-
@Yuugi's:

1600 men I believe is an estimate we were given
of course, I'm not sure WHERE i got that…
-
16 Divisions, around 100 in each. So yes, I'd say that's a fair estimate.
-
@Impel:
16 Divisions, around 100 in each. So yes, I'd say that's a fair estimate.
I thought there were only four divisions… at least there were only 4 captains shown (2 at Whitebeard/Shank meeting, Ace and dead guy)
If you're a captain in Whitebeard's crew you GOTTA be pretty good. And 16 pretty good characters in one place seems like Soul Society: a BAD IDEA
-
I think there is only 4.of course now oda has to make fights for 8 people so It'll be neat to see how he pulls that off. But I'm sure that shanks has the smallest crew while the others all have over 1000 men so they'll be fine i'm sure.
-
Okay, since the SH are so close to the new world, I was wondering if anyone has an idea of who the last two Yonkou are. It's known that Whitebeard and Shanks are emperors, and from what I gathered, a third is know as well which (if true) leaves the fourth shrouded in mystery.
My guess is that one of the Yonkou is Lola's mother because she mentions that she is orginally from the New World and that her mother is a pirate which her crew back up as well. Of course, Lola's mom may merely be a pirate travelling the New World.
-
Kaidou is the third known Yonkou.
-
This post is deleted!
-
Thanks Nanlit.
I still stick to my guess that Lola's mom is the fourth.
-
I wonder if each emperor stands for a style of rule. With the exception of the WG ruling by law, I think Whitebeard rules by strength, Shanks rules by kinship, Kaidou may rule by intellect, and the fourth emperor rules by … principle?
This theory kinda sucks, but how it sucks is discussion worthy.
-
Thanks Nanlit.
I still stick to my guess that Lola's mom is the fourth.
Well, I guess one of them looks like a woman….
-
That fat blob in the picture with garp could be the female, especially since the other one had a beard afaik. :J
-
My own thread, i'm so honored. XD
-
Thanks Nanlit.
I still stick to my guess that Lola's mom is the fourth.
Neither pic really looks like a girl(though this is One Piece).
More importantly the other two Emperors look pretty malicious and 3 of 4 strongest pirates being good guys seems wrong.
-
Damn. That's a good point and if true, making my guess wrong since Oda has pretty much established that Lola's mom will be helping the SH in the future.
Igetownd: Doesn't Whitebeard rule by kinship as well or at least he acts like a father to his subordinates (I think)?
-
@Kitsune::
Anyone wonder which of the remaining2 Yonkou Shilloutese Kaidou is?
IMV it's the silly looking, Wanze-type person. Moria was a silly Shichibukai, at least compared with Kuma, Crocodile and Mihawk, so I'd imagine his rival to be just as silly.
-
It would be too obvious if Oda has Lola's mum planned as a Yonkou. Plus, as said earlier, I don't think the remaining two Yonkou will be good guys. They'll be Luffy's rivals, and if Lola said her mum would help him, then there'd be something else Lola's mum is after which isn't One Piece.
-
Well, we don't know if Lola's Mom is a captain. We just know that she is a known pirate (That is what I remember). She could be like in the crew of an emperor like Ace is…
-
I find it interesting that the expectation from OP fans, seems to be that of only four pirate crews in the new world.
-
4 emperors, maybe some shichibukais, maybe some marines, maybe some revolutioners, some crews like Lola's, who are traveling from the neew world to the "old" grand line, and some islands and countrys….
More than four, but less than in the "old" grand line.
-
yea I find it funny too how the only expected people are remaining shichibukai and yonkous. Any new name we find people go straight too I bet he/she is a yonkou or missing shichibukai.
I like how we are getting more and more pirates to the world. We have the new 9 crews (supernovas) and Lola's mom. are there any other mentioned pirates that we will meet/possibly or is the rest all just shichibukai/yonkou or marines.
-

i'm completely agree…
yonkou rules the new world, but probably there are a lot of less important pirates!
anyway, also supernovas are going to the new world...
then: 4 Yonkou + 7 (6?) Shichibukai + 8 Supernovas crew + Smoker + Garp-Koby-Hermeppo + 3 Admirals + Bagy + some little pirate...
750.000 chapters?!? :blink:
(what about: fourth yonkou = Hancock the pirate queen = Lola's mom?)
-
Hancock and Lola's mom are not the same person… plus me thinks that Hancock is just a very beautiful women and that's all. oh and she is a pirate.
-
I find it interesting that the expectation from OP fans, seems to be that of only four pirate crews in the new world.
Maybe many of us think that because weak pirates wouldn't last in the New world, while pirates that stand out would either be recruited or taken out by the Yonkou, Shickibukai, higher level marines, and maybe the as of yet unseen Uber Bounty Hunters(seriously there have to be a couple).
I can imagine crews making it to the New World before the Supe Novas, I can imagine random superstrong people on different Islands like Tom&Eneru, and Bounty hunters but not small independant crews operating for years in the New World unhindered.
Well, we don't know if Lola's Mom is a captain. We just know that she is a known pirate (That is what I remember). She could be like in the crew of an emperor like Ace is…
Division captain for an Emperor could work. Rockstar had a 98 mil bounty but was still seen as a nobody on WB ship. That makes it possible even Division Captain #16 could be a famous pirate in their own right.
-
Well that another case to show that there are probably more in the New World than just those 4.
Rockstar had a 98 million bounty and was seen as a nobody. So why would the yonkou do anything ot destroy him or his crew (say he was a captain) they wouldn't they dont' care about small fry. And for all we know small fry is anyone under 500 mil.
