No 2 devil's powers are the same?
Then how the hell do they know which fruit is which?Someone sould make a thread of this.
-
Thanks for zeh chapter ^^
-
I don't see why Cinder can be the main villain. What would be her goal anyway?
As Luffy would say, her goal is very mysterious.
-
Mirror, because I despise both Rapidshare and sendspace.
-
I don't see why Cinder can be the main villain. What would be her goal anyway?
Rid the world of plates.
And I'll mention this again in case someone doesn't know yet: Absalom is the name of one of King David's son in the Bible. He overthrew his father from his throne and became king himself, but was later struck down by David's army, even though David told them not to kill him.
-
I wonder where the cover story is going to go. Maybe the weird creatures send Eneru to a megalomaniacs annonymous meeting.
-
Good chapter! ^_^
Is it just me or… does Hildon look like he's on drugs on the page where the pig zombie throws one of his swords towards Usopp? oO" He looks so creepy on that page XD And the picture-zombie on page 18 (second panel) looks like Viktor from "The corpse bride" XD
One of the pictures of Cindry looks creepy too XD It's the one in the top-left corner... where Cindry wears the black dress. This picture seems to be a bit misplaced oô When I looks at the other pictures, she could be a noble person when she was alive, but this dress is a bit too unusual for a noble girl oo
And... are Hildon's claws on page 13 on his shoes or what? oô Doesn't look like these are his real feet... and he still has his bottle of wine Theory: The wine is his weapon XD
-
Has anyone found out what the first game-like page is yet?
-
Enel is definitely going to take revenge for his Maxim and destroy the ship of the space pirates.
Good chapter. It doesn't look like this arc is going to be that long, which I like. I miss the short arcs Oda did in the early One Piece times.
(Well, I just want to know if Brook joins or not, and I won't wait 100 chapters like I had to with Franky. Even though it was sure he would join.)Hogback seems to have trust in Absalom, who is ordered to get rid of the strawhats. Enjoy, invisible man.
I want the strawhat-gang in the forest to run into Hogback, Absalom and ghost (name?) and kick their (invisible) asses. -
The complete and corrected translation is up!
And just to make something really really really dead sure: Dr. Hogback is by no means one of the "D"s!!! As I suggested, the "D Hogback" from what Hildon said earlier was probably a typo by the editors. When Chopper referred to Hogback this chapter, he constantly said "Dr.", written in roman letters (ie OUR WESTENERS' letters). Using roman letters in normal japanese sentences isn't something commonly used, so when they were supposed to enter "Dr." they accidentally typeset it as just "D". Okay? FINE!
The thing about no two people sharing a devil fruit answers one queston but raises other. For instance why is it that the cp9ers had a catalogue of all the devil fruits. If no one knows what the devil fruit does until they eat it how do you compile that kind of info. And blackbeard must be a very lucky guy. Unless like someone said the devil fruit re-grows after the user dies.
That question got treated in Tankobon 45.
Reader: "Hey hey, Odacchi! I got a question! A Devils's Fruit's question! When Kaku and Kalifa from CP9 ate their Devil's Fruits, they said they didn't know those ones. But why did they know from the beginning that it was the gomu gomu no mi when Luffy ate it?? Please tell us! Tell us dammit!! Pwetty pweeeasee!!!" <- Pen name Hyakkarikko (or something)
Oda: "Yes, there is some well known information about the Devil's Fruits, I wanted to talk about this sooner or later in the story, but there actually is a catalogue [picture book] of Devil's Fruits. There should be the names of all fruits written down, but there are only few identifications of most fruits. The gomu gomu no mi did appear in the book, but Kaku's and Kalifa's fruits weren't listed with a picture. You know the power of the fruit when you eat it, it's this kind of thing, as said in book 40."
So all fruits and abilities are known, but since there are only few fruits listed with according pictures you wouldn't know the ability to gain from just looking at the fruit, in most cases, that is. Apparently Blackbeard's fruit did have a picture as well.
This all has been said in the Book 45 thread already.
But you're right, it doesn't explain why people already know all Devil's Fruits. At least it got confirmed that all Fruits are known. -
Has anyone found out what the first game-like page is yet?
Looks like a One Piece pinball game for cell phones. Not so interesting..
One of the pictures of Cindry looks creepy too XD It's the one in the top-left corner… where Cindry wears the black dress. This picture seems to be a bit misplaced oô When I looks at the other pictures, she could be a noble person when she was alive, but this dress is a bit too unusual for a noble girl oo

I've been wondering about the picture in the far left corner too. Looks like a showgirl outfit, including a top hat. In case this is Hogback's obsession room where he
faps tolooks at Cindry's photographies, I'd say it's only natural for a stalker like him to even have a photography that is a bit more sexy.
Hogback is such a stalker… XDAnd yes Hildon's claws apparently pierce through his shoes. Maybe he ate a bat zoan Devil's Fruit, kinda like Miss Merry Christmas. Maybe the bottle of wine is actually a bottle of blood. I noticed Nami never actually drank the wine when they were in the carriage. Might be the clue.
-
Sorry to ask, but where did you put your translation up?
Thanks by the way…Edit: Okay I found it, thanks
-
I wouldn't say Hildon is a DF user. Seeing how he has stitches on his body, we an safely assme that he is one of Hogback's bizzare creations.
-
thanks much rockschmock for the excellent trans and for clearing up the devilfruit identity dilemma for the youngin's.
I'm glad I skipped the spoilers this week Luffy's punchlines were gold. Down boy! Although, I do wish the Namusochop would get past the scooby doo phase. I could just hear the bad 70's music during the zombie chase scene.
So invisible man/beast= Absalom and the spyghost is named Perona.
The fights coming up should be rather interesting:
Perona and the other ghost(s) can go through walls, so is seems unlikely that physical attacks will have much effect on them.
Absalom is likely to be another zombie.
Invisible Man: …. phew
Invisible Man: that was close...Just from a gunpowder star that most OP enemies would have shrugged off. This seems to insinuate that he has a weakness to fire like the other zombies.
Luckily for him though, the Mugiwara heavy hitters don't know about this weakness to fire yet. Any chance that their brute strength won't be enough and usopp will have to save the day with fire attacks?
Okay, not really.
-
translation on page 2 or 3….
Wow, a lot of horror movie cliche's. I was amused when Luffy tried to ask the zombie tree to join his crew. Then Franky captures the unicorn without any trouble. Man, if Luffy tried to get every interesting creature on the island to join his crew, there would be no more room on the Thousand Sunny.Hey, on the Scooby thing...What if this arc ends with Robin pulling off Hogbacks mask and revealing that it's Brooke? Then he'll say "And I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for you meddling kids and your Tanuki!" To which Chopper responds with: "I'm a reindeer! see the horns?!"
-
i dont really believe oda will really introduce
real
zombies like the fishman or the giants..-..
they`re just experiments of hogback and maybe thisone is some devilfruit user–--or the shadow from brook could awake people from death...mhh not so but something with shadows it can be
invisble-invisble fruit from absolom and the ghost guy next to hogback.....mhh will be interisting how oda explain them lol -
Repent and ye shall be saved, Hogback!
From Luffy, of course.
-
Hey, on the Scooby thing…What if this arc ends with Robin pulling off Hogbacks mask and revealing that it's Brooke? Then he'll say "And I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for you meddling kids and your Tanuki!" To which Chopper responds with: "I'm a reindeer! see the horns?!"
ROFL!
Another good observation from you, boiga! Absalom might be either weak, or just very very sensitive to fire. But Usopp isn't the only Strawhat now who can use fire. Franky has "Fresh Fire" and Sanji his "Diable Jambe".
-
Oh god… that'd be too much. I don't know if I'd fall down laughing or crying.
Oh, sanji would only bring out the devil leg under extreme duress I would think. They tend to save the big guns for the end. In the initial stages of a brawl, the mugiwara fighters will still be at a relative disadvantage.
-
Geezer Tree for NAKAMA! Geezer tree for NAKAMA! Hey, it was foreshadowed way back in the W7 arc when Franky installed grass on the deck of Sunny!!!
(you know I'm joking, right?)
I love those trees! What a fun scene. Thank you Oda for granting my small wish this week. And speaking of wishes – bounty hunters. INVISIBLE bounty hunters. Yowza!! Sharpen those swords, Marimo -- it's time for another Whiskey Peak rampage.
I've got to get back to work, but I want to add one more thing to the discussion : after seeing the pictures of Cindry, I can't stop thinking of Browning's famous poem (you know, that poem you had to explicate in an ACT or SAT exam ...)
"That's my last duchess hanging on the wall ..."
http://www.victorianweb.org/authors/rb/duchess.htmlEDIT :
Usopp is doing well on his own so far. His landing on the chandelier was as much an accident as anything, but he turned it into an advantage by using the candles. And RockS, you're right, Franky and Sanji are both well-suited for fighting with fire. Probably best to let Luffy, Robin and Zoro sit this one out then. (slight pout)[Thanks everyone for the scans and translations!]
-
Awesome!
Hehe, did Usopp and Nami trip while running from the zombies at the end?
-
Luffy beating the shit out of Cerberus and rode on him reminds me of what happened to Mohmoo
Mohmoo: Kick the living shit out of him and he'll be forced to pull your boat
Cerberus: Smash him against the wall and he'll be forced to act as your ride.
-
Don't forget when Sanji beat-up that sabertooth tiger in the Little Garden arc. Then was riding on its back.
By the way, does anybody know what that banner that Usopp is carrying says?
-
This is getting freakier and freakier…
Hm...Hogback is looking even more suspicious, yet I'm still not convinced he's the big villain.
Absalom? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absalom Pulling names out of the bible again. Absalom was David's third and very rebellious son who died from getting his hair caught in a tree during battle.
Nice to finally get a confirmation about no two DFs being alike. As for how people know what they are…I've surmised that the question will be answered when we find out where they come from. If they were all produced by a scientist, for instance (Vegepunk?) then whoever created them would have a catalogue of their appearance and abilities.
By the way, does anybody know what that banner that Usopp is carrying says?
It says "evil spirits begone" or something.
-
Rid the world of plates.

I'm pretty sure it's differently, but uh hell with it.
–-
EDIT:
Eh, Cosmic, I remember it different from this too. =S
And we studied it only this year at Bible class too, so I'm condifent.
Oh wait.. maybe it's different in different religions [the hell you write it?]?
–-Just read full translation [thanks again Rockschmoc], awesome it's clearly stated there are no two DFs. Finally we're free of doubt.
And yeah, Nam is super cute in that outfit. Creepy thing's Cindry wore it once _. I'd be happy if that pack she was holding is another suit from Cindry and not her old suit. ^^ We might have a new look for Nami! This time I'm pretty sure Usopp's suit will come in handy. [<-Duh]_

I think Hogback works with this "ghosts-pirate-hunters", to achieve his goal: Get Cindry fully back to live. I think HE is the husband that she killed herself for. He, since that, started to look after a "cure for death", and started to needed money to keep his researches. So he moved to Grandline, where he could capture pirats, for their bounties.

Oh wait.. maybe it's different in different religions [the hell you write it?]?The bible is the bible…I was going on a vague memory and wikipedia's description...the only thing I remember for certain is that Absalom started a battle, got caught in a tree by his hair and was slain, despite David's attmepts to stop him. I would have to read the chapters again to know exactly what happened.
-
LOL, things are getting interesting and crazy all at once. Just hope we get to see more spooky stuff from Luffy's side of things next time.
-
@Raphael:

Raphael – I like your theory! I see only one problem with it, but we can probably figure out a solution if we think for a while. The problem : what do the ghost-pirate-hunters gain from their association with Hogback? Wouldn't it be easier for them just to capture the pirates by themselves and take the entire bounty? There must be something that Hogback can offer them that would make them want to work with him and make them willing to split their "prize" with him. Perhaps it's the ability to bring their fallen crewmates back from the dead, too? Or maybe he's allowing them to roam about the island freely in exchange for their services? or ... ? or ... ?
-
…Those pictures of Cindry kind of remind me of Audrey Hepburn for some reason. And I can't tell what's up with Hildon at all. But it's an awesome chapter, and I'm already champing at the bit for the next one. I really wanna see where it's going.
-
Like Hogback said in the previous chapter, he's trying to find out a way to bring dead people to life again. Maybe that's the reason: his experiment is about to turn the pirate hunters ghosts into living people again. But then that would make a plothole concerning the zombies, but I think we can figure it out later.
-
this is so Island of Dr. Moreau….
-
The bible is the bible…I was going on a vague memory and wikipedia's description...the only thing I remember for certain is that Absalom started a battle, got caught in a tree by his hair and was slain, despite David's attmepts to stop him. I cheched the Hebrew Wikipedia too, it seems that's what's really happened. Dunno though, we learned something completely different.
School, go figure. <_< -
Seeing Absolom surprised me…that host harassed Nami in the last chapter? How? It seems like Nami kicked him in the nuts last chapter, but this ghost doesn't seem equipped for that...
In fact, it's a little embarassing, that thing looks like a kid cartoon ghost yet it's lusting after Robin and Nami. Not to mention, I believe that ghost has been in the background of a few panels near the start of this arc.
And of course, what is Hogbacks relation to them? Does he use these bounty hunters for protection, or some deal to fund his research?
As for the Cindry shrine...interesting. Where those picks given or taken?
-
well it isn't a suprise to see that a chapter that isn't interesting has so little posts in each thread!
anyway,i think if luffy coulod,he would take the whole thriller island with him! and don thanks for the raw!!! i think this is your 2nd time! you seriously rock!!!
-

that little thing was Perona, not Absolom.
-
Heh, I like how Chopper's horns came off with his hat when he was freaked out by the painting.
-
that cartoony ghost thing is Perona, not Absalom. we still haven't seen him.
hilarious chapter, btw. thanks for the translation rocky.
i don't think dr. hogback gets the monsters to work for him, i think he created them and they do his bidding because he is their master. a whole, "island of dr. moreau" thing. i bet you the chapter will end with all the zombies turning against him, though. :)
exciting to see how this will turn out. usopp has been pretty good despite this being his worst nightmare, and the girls' outfits are smokin… i like the lacey things.
finally, i don't know why everyone is so confused about the devil fruit thing. only a few fruits are known and their picture is displayed somewhere, although the reason these fruits are known remains unclear. other than that every single fruit is different and a mystery. nowhere has oda-sensei even hinted that one grows back when a user dies.
can't wait to see brooke fighting, whenever he turns up again!!
who knew robin was an animal lover?
-
Perhaps it's the ability to bring their fallen crewmates back from the dead, too? Or maybe he's allowing them to roam about the island freely in exchange for their services? or … ? or ... ?
perhaps its upgrades,ex,i like his horns can i have em?
-
I hope Absalom is a total badass. I have the scene of him revealing himself in my head, just a slow shift into sight, revealing himself slowly, to show off Oda's great character designing skills.
-
This Saga keeps getting better and better,I like the Rug Bear, Chopper seeing the talking picture, and Usopp avoiding to paid Nami for seeing her naked XD i hope Brook comes back for the next chapter
-
Hogback reminds me of a little cartoon I saw on a Communist propaganda poster once.
Good chapter, this arc is getting more interesting by the week, I'm still looking forward to how Brooke fights.
-
Cindry looks much happier in those photographs. In the last chapter, she seemed totally emotionless; probably because she's dead. Is Dr. Hogback another Murder Legendre?
-
i don't think cindry was a noblewoman OR a maid. i bet she was a movie star or an actress, based on all the types of outfits she's wearing… she also looks a little similar to nami, which means nami's in trouble... but we already knew that, what with all she's been through already.
-
this is the one piece i love
Hmmm is it Enel on the cheminee or mast?? of the space pirate boat???
-
You just gave me a thought Captainjustin…What if Absolom is the person who Cindry once loved, and he wants her brain transferred to Nami? Then he can become visible and marry his un-stitched bride? Or something weird like that. (Why not? This arc is playing out like a b-horror movie...which is not a bad thing.)
-
@_Meh_:

I can't remember when it has been said that Cindry is dead. I suppose it was in chapter 446, but after reading the chapter once again, I still don't see where it has been said.
-
I don't think it's really been said. But it is kinda…..obvious.
-
It seems that HogBack really cares about the money on the Straw hats heads. I wonder what the hell he needs it for…
Now that I think about it , he knows the SH's new bounties which are quite recent.
So he is not disconnected from the outside world. (infact since those new bountrys are at worse a week old he's actually failry informed)I also wonder who supplys HogBack with what he needs (basic or exstreme). Its not like Any one can supply a roaming ghost island the stuff it needs.
Looks like this chapter tells more story in between the lines rather then the lines themself.
