With One Piece being a weekly anime these new recap episodes are exactly what was needed thing to increase the quality of the main anime, especially now with the huge increase of talent and effort. Toei still gets the same sponsorship, revenue from home media, and packaged episode count to other countries. If there is one less main episode as a result it's still worth it for better episodes.
-
Honestly these recaps have far more original content than some numbered episodes anyways (looking at you enies lobby filler). They’ve just made a more clear indication that these episodes are skippable, and add some cute original character interactions. It’s especially weird hearing other characters voice the previews and title cards.
-
Yeah, I don’t mind them being included, particularly if there are thirteen episodes in each set with a recap.
-
Considering we are going to be inevitably be catching up either way, I guess its not a big deal. If it was years ago and we were still so far behind, I would be upset they were wasting time dubbing them and ripping us off if it meant one less episode on a set. But with the current circumstance, it doesn't really matter, I'll just skip them anyway.
I just started the Wano dub, so I'm exactly 100 episodes behind, with the hope that if I start marathoning now, I'll catch up for a simuldub release. Planning to stop watching subbed episodes after this weekend, but I might stick around to the end of Wano if the animation keeps being so good. Its weird watching the same arc in two languages at the beginning and end simultaneously.
-
Could I please have a source is for this info? I'd like to share it with other forums.

Another update on my progress of catching up on the dub. I'm up to Episode 812 (The beginning of Brook and Pedro's raid on Big Mom's chateau.) Since she debut on Episode 812 and she's one of my favorite villains of the series. I really like the english dub voice of Smoothie and the voice fits the character perfectly in my opinion. I'm familiar with Smoothie's english voice actress with her performance as Kale on Dragon Ball Super, which I thought she did a great job on as well.

Wow, the opening We Are dialog was horribly placed.

What does this mean? I dont get it.
-
I think they’re referring to the fact it extends past when Roger is off screen. I think it’s because the actual intro is a bit shorter, if you listen closely the narrator actually re-recorded his lines to fit better. Was probably just easier to make the dialogue take up less time in Japanese.

My UHD set for Film Red has arrived. Some thoughts:
- The bonus episodes aren't dubbed, which sucks for such an expensive set and means that for now dub fans have to buy the movie twice if they want all the content and UHD transfer.
- The Making of that Crunchyroll Extras uploaded to YouTube is included.
- The UHD has a fully Japanese video track but, strangely, the regular Blu-ray uses English opening credits and English text during the film followed by Japanese credits. Even the subtitled screenings had English credits in the cinema.
- The Audio Description track uses the Japanese dialogue with a narrator reading the dialogue. Why on earth would they do that when there's an English dub on the same disc!??
-
@LostTimeLord UHD set? Is this in the UK or something? Weird they didn't share the dubbed episodes. Seems like an oversight.
-
@Zephray Yeah, this is a UK thing for now. I've mentioned it earlier in the thread.
I know it's not Funimation, nor DVD for that matter, but I thought it would be of interest.
-
I mean most of this thread is talking about the digital release now so you can’t really be blamed in particular lol

@Blake-Bakes-Cakes Yep, Funimation DVD Discussion IV - aka Crunchyroll English-Dubbed Home Media Discussion I

Manga Entertainment/Crunchyroll release the One Piece tv series in the UK. While Anime Limited got the rights for One Piece Film Red in the UK.
-
@Sano Anime Limited are also distributing the Season Collections, too.

Watching through. Yamato's voicework sounds pretty unremarkable when trying to sound tough, but great when sounding like an excited fan.
Also, was it ever said before that they were going to translate Luffy's "Yamao" nickname to "Ya-may-to"?
I second this. Also, does the original VA ever try to sound like a man as this English VA occasionally does?

I really wish someone would update the title, or are we waiting for the... Crunchyroll SimulDub & Home Media Discussion
-
@Zephray I seem to remember them sounding a little more ambiguous in their first appearance, like your average shonen boy voiced by a woman.
-
Okay so I was watching some old episodes, and I have to assume Netflix/Hulu uses whatever the DVD has or vice-versa.
For some unholy reason, from like....Saboady through the war (or maybe even earlier), the opening is some mismash of Jungle P audio but Share the World and Kaze wo Sagashite visuals. I have to assume it's some kind of rights issue but god lord is it totally disorientating. One Day (after) and Crazy Rainbow (before) are both totally fine, it's just....this.
-
Netflix did similar thing with the episodes during the Davy Back Fights and early Water 7 with them using the ending 14 animation but used the next ending song (Ending 15, Eternal Pose) audio. It really strange, since Crunchyroll on the dub episodes got all the songs that used on the home video release (Expect for Ending 14.). And on the Pluto tv stream, they have the Crunchyroll masters of the sub episodes. Which are missing alot of songs and stuff.
-
Well at least I know it's a weird issue on both Netflix AND Hulu. Thanks.
-
No new set today. Bummer. Guess it’ll be four weeks.
-
Crunchyroll's November releases are out. No One Piece releases for November.
-
Another update on my dub catch up. I'm up to episode 827, which is the beginning of the Straw Hats and Fire Tank pirates meeting before the Tea Party. I want to mention that the dub did a great job on the Brook vs. Big Mom episodes as well the Sanji finding out about Pudding's true intention. Pudding's english voice actress did an amazing job on the Pudding's heel turn.
-
Simuldub soon?
-
Colleen also tweeted this a few days ago https://x.com/ccarrollbeard/status/1691477993019891712?s=46&t=Kq3IHPuSvKT2MXKx8HKScQ , which implied she was recording that episode. So no matter how the release it pretty safe to say they’re just about caught up recording wise.
-
Man, I’d be so hyped if they dropped the G5 episodes dubbed and started a simuldub.
-
So exciting they are up to date with Japan. If they continue at the current pacing, by the end of the year, they'll be at 1060, and providing Japan doesn't take any breaks in that time, they'll be roughly 29 episodes behind. Simuldub could also mean they'll be roughly 4 weeks back, so that means 2 double drops, which as things currently stand, that's certainly possible.

Saw some unverified thing somewhere that mayumi Tanaka cried while voicing G5. Sounds like Colleen may have, too. Glad they understand how thematically touching this is for Luffy’s character. It symbolizes everything Luffy has been moving towards, and it’s so beautiful a culmination. Folks who hate it, reading comprehension fail no dif.
-
Wow, this is unbelievable. Colleen and everyone might very soon reach a point where there is literally NOTHING NEW for them to dub.
-
I remember when the dub had to start anew with the sets and now we're almost neck-and-neck with the Japanese release.....that's incredible.
-
so at this point they are just pretty much sitting on episodes to the point where a 4 week simuldub is very possible and its starting to feel like we not getting any episodes for August
-
I’m expecting them on Tuesday. I’ll be surprised if they don’t drop.
-
I mean I'm sure not everyone has recorded for all of them, but this is still great
-
It's entirely possible that certain talent haven't recorded yet, or the episodes aren't yet mixed and ready to go. Now, If they can double the current schedule for 3 months between now and December- they can absolutely simuldub by the end of the year. Again, we don't know where the actual engineers are with the mixing and what they have ready and available to go to the Microsoft Store. At some point, if they are going to Simuldub, double drops will have to happen.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Crunchyroll recruit another team of engineers to mix the backlog episodes. They have more than at least doubled the recording teams during this process. We've gone from just Mike, (When Joel left) to adding Anthony Bowling, Emily Fajardo & Kyle Phillips.

If you check the credits on the last few sets, there are a ton more directors now than this. Seems like they have like, assistant directors who record certain roles, I assume.
-
@Zephray that shows you how much man power they've put behind this, and they are serious in catching up. I wouldn't be surprised to see more engineers.
-
Just got around to Episode 877, and man, I hope that they touch up those silent movie intertitles for the Blu-ray. The Japanese version has a soft, damaged, blown out effect and they've not replicated it at all for the English video track. They've just put pin sharp subtitles over the video that look super out of place. They even hold the last caption too long! I understand why they're translating this stuff, but when they do such a sloppy job I wish they'd just leave the text in Japanese like they did with the earlier seasons.
-
I can’t remember if we were watching streaming or digital, but when my wife and I watched that episode, it didn’t even have subtitles during that scene, so we had to switch to the subs to see what was said afterwards.

Glad it wasn't me who jinxed it this time lolol
-
I sense a double drop incoming. Likely why we missed out this week.
-
Personally, I’m hoping for a streaming drop of seventy episodes and an instant simuldub launch. …haha.
-
@Zephray please let me hit what you smoking on there buddy because i need that kind of high lol
