It’s been a few months since Wanos conclusion, but with the holiday season chapter drought is upon us why not discuss it more in depth?
That is to say: After more than four years and almost 150 chapters the Wano arc has finally concluded, as well as the larger “Big Mom/Kaidou” saga, spanning plotlines as far back as Fishman Island and Punk Hazard. And while we have “general Wano“ and “new world” discussions for Macro arc takes, I thought it’d be interesting to have threads dedicated wholly to evaluating particular plotthreads with the benefit of hindsight (finally).
This time, let’s talk scabbards! There was a lot of them, with the first few gradually introduced across Punk Hazard, Dressrosa and Zou, and the rest following suit in Wano proper. Serving as Oden and later Momonosukes retainers, these guys spanned a range of designs and fighting styles as well as their own little stories and relationships, ranging from being undercover as a mob-boss and Robin Hood-esque figure, to being a jaded mountain bandit. So what did you think of them, and all their various little plotlines? Any that worked for you, any that didn’t? Any favorites or least favorites? To recap, the scabbards span:
- Kinemon, nominal leader and first one we meet
- Kanjuro the traitor and actor/painter
- Raizou the ninja and collector of elephant bathwater
- Catviper and Dogstorm (both touched on in the Minks discussion but feel free to talk of them as scabbards here)
- Kawamatsu the barfing Kappa
- Okiku, loser of arms
- Shutenmaru/Ashura douji, keeper of maps and boats RIP
- Denjiro, notorious mastermind of the Soba Stand Raid
- As well as Replacement Scabbard Izo and honorary scabbard with no formal title Shinobu the amazing slim-down Ninja
