Anything in particular or in general? Like I also thought that this chapter was rather clunky. They went overboard with Feitan's broken speak pattern.
But in general I think the translation is okay. Albeit I can only say by scans and pt version. -

Something about the image quality seems off to me as well compared to other series. The whole thing kinda gives me an MSN Manga Group.

Not sure what all else Ivotas noticed since Hunter x Hunter dialogue by nature is clunky but one thing I did spot myself is that weird non sequitur towards the end about being so formal.
It's because of Viz not translating honorifics but they didn't even have Hinrigh say Mr. Nobunaga or anything to set it up.

Translator credits are to Lilian Olsen, who has been doing translating work for decades and has thousands of chapters to her credit, including half of Dragonball and all of DBZ , Yu Yu Hakusho, Evangelion, Utena, El Hazard, Ceres, Shaman King, and every HxH volume since volume 7, which came out in English in 2006.
So if anything is particularly off about this chapter, and you didn't feel that way about the previous 360 chapters over the last 16 years, its probably not on the translator's ability and instead some other behind the scenes issue.

Aside from the issues Ubiq and zeltrax225 have pointed out, I in fact really have an issue with how overboard they went with Feitan's broken speech pattern. There is no rhyme or reason to it. I will explain why I feel so below. However I'll put it in spoilers as I'm afraid it'll be a bit long and most likely not something everybody is interested in.

I get what you're tying to say and I don't disagree that it might be someone else's fault. But at the same time I don't think that the argument provided automatically takes the responsibility away from the translator. While I do hold experience in very high regards I also think that quality is more important than quantity. And I've never been fond of the argument "x person has been doing y for z years" as indicator of actual quality. If anything, many bad routines get justified by exactly that. Again, not saying that it has to be the case for this translator. Rather just saying that it isn't a particuarly strong argument.

If someone has done a job consistently and well, thousands of times, for decades, and suddenly one time it's a little off, then there is probably something unusual behind the scenes going on.
Maybe they got sick, maybe they got the pages late and had to do 8 in a day instead of 2, maybe the usual editor or letterer is on vacation.
I had a lot more written here. a lot. I've been working in comics for almost 24 years. But I'll leave it with this.
Its really, REALLY insulting for your first go impulse to be "wow this sucks, is this an intern?" and "are they actually getting paid for this?"

Sorry mate but I'm not changing my stance on what I said. It's your free choice to dislike it but I would suggest that you take a step back and stop getting overly emotionally ivolved here. Also perhaps consider that the comic book industry doesn't hold exclusivity rights on work related hardships, setbacks and obstacles.I'm fully aware how tough things at work can get. I myself am far from working perfectly all the time but when I consequently screw up I have to take the critisism, no matter the circumstances. I know it feels hard and unfair but it doesn't change that ultimately I will have to take it, even if outside factors played a huge role. That's why I will continue to call a sloppy job a sloppy job, with full disregard for pedigree and/or accomplishments. I suggest you don't take it too much too heart, take a step back and relax.

yeah viz has been getting outdone by fan translators for a while now. and their hxh translation has always been mediocre.

Probably the most uninteresting 10 chapters of HxH I've read from this arc.
The last two chapters are gonna be centered around Nobu and Hinrigh I guess. Let's see if I'm gonna care.

@Robby I understand that we are all humans and there are bad days but it's not the reader's role to excuse bad translation when they've paid for a product. Sure, paying doesn't make you entitled but all we are doing is holding the translator accountable for what they are responsible for. I don't disagree that there is likely something going on behind the scenes or something happened and we should be kind.
But if you flip the situation over, perhaps there is something that can be improved in the organization/system itself, if we take into account the translator's proven ability to not be the problem, something else might be. Like, you listed a list of reasons that if a company that actually has established standard policies to follow, will still be able to deliver a quality product in spite of external circumstances.
I mean, what happened in that chapter wasn't a single-case thing either.There are times, such as over at JJK, and other series, translation decisions for official versions can feel less in line with the continuity and resonate less compared to fan translations. Once again, nothing I'm saying is directed at the translator. Of course, this is me just puffing air because I'm not exactly proposing a solution and you as a creator is 100% justified to jump on the translator's side. But with how big Jump is, I've always felt like the translation (decisions) has not evolved at the same pace that the magazine's popularity has.
"Translation is not exactly a high billing job, so maybe our standards should be.." is something that has always irked me because the system gets away with that so much. You're not saying that, of course but good translation is such an inaugural part of the experience that the system supporting it has never gave it the attention it needs.

First, the translation wasn't that bad that it merits the level of debate it's already gotten.
Second, the incredibly insulting tone is what I took issue with, not the opinion.
"Hey, Stephen didn't do a great job on One Piece this week, I think the bootleg did better on this particular aspect " is fine. It's constructive criticism.
"What an amateur intern quality job, has this person ever done this before, I hope they didn't get paid for that" is ridiculously insulting, rude and out of place.

For crying out loud stop being so sensitive. If I consider a translation to be insultingly bad then I will label it as such.
Feel free to think differently and disagree with my take. But please stop playing the moral highground card and act as if only the comic book industry is prone to bad working conditions when literally every field of work experiences something similar. I did not take a jab at neither you personally nor at the comic book industry as a whole. I simply found this translation to be really bad and amateurish and I explained in detail why in the spoiler part (where I was even generous because I left certain aspects out).
As Zeltrax said, it is not the audiences job to do extra digging to excuse the bad translation. It is not the audiences job to do research on the translators pedegree and body of work. We and in this specific situation I judge a product on it's own merits and not on previous work. Because that's the only way how to properly judge a product. If a five start cook suddenly offers you a turd you would also not eat it up because said person is a certified five star cook with 20 years of work experience where they prepared only the most high class of meals. You would call them out for offering you a turd, with no regards to history and working conditions.
And that's exactly how I feel about the translation in the most recent chapter. I hope you would somehow understand that this is not a personal attack at you or at the comic industry as a whole. So would you mind stop being triggered by it as if it was such? You know that I never to shy aways to admit when I went overboard and accidentally offend somebody. But I will not do so when drama is created out of something where there is no drama to be found. I think the translation sucks. You don't. Let's move on with this.

Doesn't that character always speak in broken english? Didn't seem much weirder than before except that he talked more than he usually does. Or is it a she? It's hard to tell with HxH sometimes.

Yes, he does. The issue is not Feitan having a broken speech pattern, it's that it mostly has no rhyme or reason. There usually is a system which broken speech patterns follow with pattern being the keyword here. However there is almost no pattern which makes this jarring to read if you actually care for those things.I explained in detail what I mean and put in under spoilers. Unfortunally it's quite long too read an not easy on the eye, which is mainly my fault as I couldn't think of a good way how to make it easier on the eye in a forum post.

@Robby I get where you are coming from. For what it's worth though, I do think there is room for improvement and that very chapter would benefit from good proofreading. I have nothing against bad translations because I do read niche series that were horrendously translated. I do find myself holding Jump to a higher standard because I'm a subscriber and it is the most popular magazine in the world.
Everyone is going to talk shit, be it in music, film, or whatever industry. The naysayers are the ones backed with no evidence/reasonable point but this is not the case. Others have also pointed out something is off that chapter so you can see how it is a noticeable issue. Not worth this long-ass debate of course, but still.
I just feel that it is a losing battle to fight against the tone someone takes in an online space when you and I would have likely used that same tone somewhere or someplace else in another service or product that we consume, without really understanding the behind-the-scenes. A lot of people call terrible/popcorn movies shit and badly written/directed, but behind it all is a very passionate director who sacrificed a lot for it. Good directors also make bad movies on occasion. Either way, It still doesn't change the fact that it is badly received and it really is a losing battle to try to fix the spectrum of different tones people use to call something bad, bad.
Obviously, this debate borders on a non-issue and is way too long.
I do get the personal stake you have and I respect that, that's all from me. -
I mean this whole forum is built around slagging off people who are doing things none of us would even be remotely capable of. My view is that this sort of thing is built into the business they've chosen, and to paraphrase the simpsons if they didn't want to get jeered at by rubes they shouldn't have tried to express themselves creatively.

Well that last chapter was pretty tense, and than this new one was anything but. Every time I think things will start moving more seriously, the status quo prolongs with minimal changes.
Not that I'm not enjoying the chapters, though.

I wasn't moved by the flashback either because the denouement was, expected ? And the other two chapters are just miscellaneous stuff that I really did not need. Seiyu artists ? ok I guess. Background stuff about the Phantom Troupe ? Great for those who like them.Nothing about the "main cast" in 10 chapters. Hisoka Morow appeared and punched two losers. I mean, is there a Shanks film, uh I mean Hisoka movie being prepared ?
I don't mean to be insensitive about the weak characters, but the chapter about Tserriednich's "friends" that don't even use nen felt like that "cockroach chapter" in terms of unnecessary focus. On the other hand, it was probably the chapter that I enjoyed the most out of the 10, lol.
If the editors didn't lie, next and probably last chapter should feature the princes.

This was easily my favorite chapter of the bunch.
Nobunaga giving a masterclass on how a nen expert goes about facing unknown foes. He identifies one ability perfectly after only three feel out attacks and understands the gist of the other after engaging it once. It reminded me of how Zeno was so quick to decipher Chrollo during their fight. One of my favorite things about the nen system is that fast analysis and experience are just as valuable as aura and abilities. This is also the 2nd time we see him throw out a killing blow before the enemy has time to respond, which is really effective at negating the whole "nen is dangerous even when facing someone much weaker than you" issue. The small visual note of Hinrigh attacking the moment sideburns gets distracted was great.
Its clear that Morena understands her troops aren't capable of matching a few competent opponents hence the order not to engage and powerful defensive ability. I'm curious what other defenses she has in place because right now it feels like even with three spiders they could clear out those minions pretty efficiently.
This batch of chapters have been fun so far. Hinrigh is a great new character who keeps impressing in his time on screen and spider shenanigans are always fun. My only complaint right now would be the flashback being triggered by Nobu's random reflecting on Heily similarities to the spider. That felt weird.

@Cockycent Will they really ? There are so many death flags on the Troupe because of the flashback. And to be fair, aren't there only 3 Troupe members against the Heil-Ly mafia ? I'm not even sure the others are aware that Phinks, Nobunaga and Feitan have ignited a conflict with the mafia.

Yeah, a few of Troupe members will definitely go down before they get to the more pivotal Prince/Hunter Association/Hisoka drama. Nobunaga character getting all this focus and going down memory lane in a sense speaks to his chances.
I think Troupe vs the more crucial characters will wipe out the majority of the members. I'm not really factoring in Illumi and Kalluto. I think they survive this.
The Mafia's most focused on characters and Tserrie's friends seem like they are meant to die.

Considering that Illumi is only here and with the Troupe due to a contract with Hisoka, he might default once both parties kill each other. Then he can go hunt the gaseous life form living in his sister.

Jump SQ would be a blessing. He can continue at a slower pace, we still get chapters every month or two (or three, or six). And the plot still moves on.
I mean, there's the World Trigger way that he can follow.These few weeks have been great with HxH and it's the series I look forward to the most.
But it could just be hiatus + an announcement for next batch. Would still be great I guess. We'll probably be off the boat by 2026 if this keeps up.

I think it's likely that the last chapters that Togashi was working and posted on twitter (401-403) will be placed in another 10 chapter batch next year after an hiatus, and after that they will - hopefully - reached a new non-weekly schedule for him to keep publishing at his pace in a way that don't worsen his back injuries.

As long as it is Togashi drawing and writing, i'm okay with whatever irregular schedule he chooses to go by. If he wants to drop in with 10 chapters every 3 years, go ahead. Just don't push yourself too much.

These chapters have been great, anyone who's entertained thoughts of being an author understand the insane depths that tiny nuances in here hint at. As much as I hate the stochastic hopping around between POVs, I gotta admit it's only because I was invested in the previous one.
Agreed the flashback felt.. weird, forced. Idk, it's timely enough, and puts humanity into Nobunaga as he repeats his mistake with Gon and Killua, immediately falling in love with this other dude.

But hey, we at least got that AMAZING Spider flashback that he talked about always wanting to show. All three chapters of it. Where half of it was dedicated to explaining how dubbing works. And the other half was just my friend died and I was sad so I started a gang. See I always liked the Spiders and I don't think anything ruins their mystique more than making it so most of them were childhood friends who got together because a poorly developed imouto character got killed by random criminals. We don't even get the catharsis of the criminals being killed or any sort of meaningful character development other than I guess the string nen user liked that one random doctor lady she met once and that's why she decided to become a Doctor who uses string nen. But hey, if you HxH fans are satisfied by the crumbs you're given, who am I to judge?
Have fun tearing my post apart, I sure as hell won't be replying to anything you guys say. Don't wanna be accused of being confrontational, you see.

I'm admittedly not all that up to date on the Spider power levels but wouldn't making a group of those three plus Franklin actually be a really bad idea for the rest of the Troupe where Hisoka is concerned?

Himonce was the best thing about this chapter. Feitan's "you like enemy too much" was good too.
The Queens are getting more focus. They were already portrayed as cold, but this speaks to why some of the princes are taking initiative when they usually wouldn't. This procession is bringing the "King" out of them.
Haikenburg was the obvious one from the jump. He couldn't shut up about not wanting this and his pops got him to the disposition that he currently holds. Fugetsu's turn can be partially blamed on Seiko.
The whole concept is not just using these newbies to display another approach to Nen as most arcs do, it's also showing that even those that are willing will have to adapt. It is a great way to preview what will be needed for the others to survive the Dark Continent.
I like that Melody is not allowing this confession to taint her judgement.
