Yeah, the cleaning supplies section at WalMart here (which, most unfortunately, is pretty close to the only option we have in town for such things) is practically gutted. I did manage to get some of the last couple of wipes on the shelf, but they were already out of hand sanitizer.

Italy chose to quarantine 16million people.
Did such a quarantine ever happen in a western country ?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Meanwhile, Erdogan and his media keep lying about the virus in Turkey
They extended it to the entire territory, around 60 millions.
Wonder what the EU response will be

sigh South Boston canceled its St. Patrick's Day Parade. Note that South Boston is where the biggest population of Irish-Americans in the city is.

My poor college club's convention that we held every year got canceled because Smith College has denied any gathering bigger than 50 people.

The poor CVS next to my work is cleaned out of hand sanitizer. Not all the soap, interestingly enough, especially when soap is the better choice if you have access to a sink.

Regular smoking apparently increases the risk of death by a factor of 14.

Everyone's buying rubbing alcohol as an alternative even though it's horrible for your skin.
I'm just happy I was able to find a single bottle of Lysol spray forgotten in the soda section.

I seem to have caught a nasty flu, and I'm starting to hope it's coronavirus just so I can get it over with already. My health anxiety can't stand this anymore lol. On the flip side, I work in a lab that focuses on viruses, and the wisecracks just keep coming.

The Ivy League canceled both of their men and women college basketball touranments today. Other sports events that have major concerns about the situation is Tampa. Since next week, they have the first two rounds of the Men's NCAA Basketball Touranment. As well couple weeks later, Tampa will be hosting Wrestlemania 36 as well all the indies wrestling shows that be going on that week.
-
My old college is effectively closing the year out early. A lot of schools are doing that.
-
Well, my workplace is currently preparing for switching to home office as much as possible. Which means not having to commute 2+ hour to work for me, so yay for that.

Whoever is American, is it true about the astronomical prices to get tested, or is that rumours, and even if they were "relatively" cheap, is it true that insurances would not cover its full cost?
I just listened to the latest podcast by Joe rogan, and I knew almost everything except the heat situation, I thought that the disease would be "stopped in in tracks" with the advent of the summer, but the mars spread in the Arabian peninsula and that spread just fine.
I expect the virus to peak death, market and infection rate in November.
It's gonna drop even more, buffet is sitting with 218 billion in cash, waiting, he know its gonna crash, I would short the sp500 if I had a few hundred bucks on the side.
Stay safe!

You are not immune to a second infection if you get cured once.
edit:
this is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous

To nobody's surprise, E3 2020 is oficially cancelled.

Anxiety rising. Also fun, my boss notified me I can't come back to work til I get clearance. Kinda nice since I have some sick pay, but also stressful since we're understaffed already. Doesn't help that I will avoid medical help as long as possible because $$$$. I hate this.

So here's a helpful little article about telling the difference between allergies, the flu, and COVID-19:
https://www.wcvb.com/article/is-it-allergies-the-flu-or-the-coronavirus-how-to-tell-the-difference-1/31381196?fbclid=IwAR2BGdWA02JGqqynQYeoSdr4CWY-8cPPrWtOAs5LtEbQVK44-rt76PzelgEsigh And here's is a much longer article talking about the spreading rate of COVDI-19 using charts. tl;dr: It's exponential and spreads much faster than you think. A big part of keeping it contained is on the government's part (both local and federal government). Great:
https://medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavirus-act-today-or-people-will-die-f4d3d9cd99caRight now I'm not happy that I work in retail for a large company. They will not shut down unless they absolutely have to, so I get exposed way more than I want to. And it's not even me I'm worried about, since I'm not old and I have no respiratory issues, it's my mother that I worry about. She's older and coughs a lot from allergies. Ugh.

NBA suspended the season right before a game after Rudy Gobert tested positive. On Monday, he "joked" by touching every reporter's microphone before leaving the press room.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson both have coronavirus.
Hanks wouldn't have even been tested for it in the States.

Trump's shutting down travel to and from most of Europe.
It's noteworthy that his right eye looks very swollen now.
Edit: allegedly trade between the US and Europe will still be totally unrestricted?
-
Travel from the UK, one of the European countries most affected by the virus, isn't affected by the ban.

Yesterday we said our farewells to each other at the office, not really knowing when we'll be able to meet face-to-face again. Kind of an eerie feeling, that was. Even though the weather is absolutely gorgeous, I can't help but feel it spoiled by this whole mess. And I'm one of those lucky ones who don't have aging relatives or children living with me and am young and healthy and able to work from home relatively easily (I do worry about my grandparents and my mom - who's been under a lot of stress lately and smokes).
I'm still thinking about what else I should do. Cat's set for one and a half months with food and litter, I bought a bunch of rice, biscuits, pasta and canned stuff. Also frozen vegetables. Not sure if I should buy some more things, just for peace of mind. On one hand, I don't want to hoard a ton of food I'm not going to eat in a decade, on the other, well, I don't want to get hungry if/when shit hits the fan. I'll see if I can get some other non-perishable foodstuffs I'm bound to eat sooner or later anyway.Luckily, I'm all set when it comes to medicine and vitamins (might get some more today just to be safe), so that's a nice feeling.
Also, it's good to have friends with a black sense of humor at times likes this. Takes the edge away from a horrible situation and calms the nerves.

@wudogidi:
I thought that the hysteria surrounding the virus was being developed to cover the trade wars of major players
seems to me Russia is taking advantage of that on purpose to try to collapse American shale oil industry, and thus raise prices for energy import, so that they have to rely on Russia.
It pretty secretive(secretive as in not much is talked about this) but a lot of bickering between the global players has been about the nordstream and turkish stream.
From what I understand Russia has been preparing for this moment and have 590$ billion in reserves, means that they can sustain the damage of low oil prices for some 3 years.
Whereas the Americans may last only 6-12 months, and their business plans RELIES on Russia's cooperation. sooo boom boom bye bye

Finally a politically incorrect video that explains why it's happening in China
-
It just hit me while driving this morning that Trump's statement publicly blaming Europe for the virus isn't too far off from the Chinese propaganda blaming the US.
Something to keep an eye on.
-
I'm honestly shocked Trump hasn't used this opportunity to absolutely whale on China.
-
How is anything on that video politically incorrect? Wild life meat and bogus medicine made out of rhino's horn or tiger's bones is well known.
-
Not surprisingly, the other professional sport leagues in the US have suspended their season(Major League Soccer(MLS) and NHL(National Hockey League). Although it is not official, the MLB(Major League Baseball) is expected to suspend operations as well. The MLB is expected to cancel the rest of the preseason and may push the start of the regular season back.
Edit: The pressure is on the NCAA now. I know they are not suspending their top two post season basketball tournaments, but I don't think playing their games in an empty stadium is the right move here.
Edit 2: Most of the men's and women's college basketball conference championship tournaments have been canceled.

Really? Censoring Pooh seamed such a sound decision.

I may also add, the only thing racist would be saying that any asian you encounter is carry the virus or that all the epidemics come from china. Criticizing an well know, and frankly discussing, police of the Chinese government is just political discussion.

For some reason a ton of people are buying toilet paper and bottled water in my area, on top of disinfectant. I don't get it. I guess if you get sick it's good to have all that toilet paper and not leave the house, but this disease doesn't infect the water. Maybe people are just scared and hoarding? I don't know.

When things go all mad max toilet paper will be the new currency.
He who holds the paper gets to poop

The CDC has been telling people for weeks to keep two weeks worth of food and bottled water on hand.
I have a whole bunch of bottled water sitting in my apartment for that reason.

If TP is currency it's fives and tens.
The real shit is rubbing alcohol.

Or, y'know, you could just get a water filter at home. Or boil it if necessary.
Right now in pet supplies, other than food the big thing is CAT LITTER.

You know the shit has hit the fan when they close Disneyland:
https://movieweb.com/disneyland-closed-coronavirus/?fbclid=IwAR3tcLOU-nBT0Pm4A2EqorZU3St3rCzlgfCV198woA7gWOx0uPzQ6VzQPZMDisney World is still open, but I doubt that will last.
In other news, Trump claimed that insurance will waive co-pays and extend coverage for COVID-19 treatments. Which is a big fat lie:
https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2020/mar/12/donald-trump/trump-wrongly-said-health-insurance-companies-will/?fbclid=IwAR2KPYvM0bOArugjum23pMVUCzordJaz91gGOgqkJ8mb5GjeZNFzRDaPpSwAlso in part because of a shortage of diagnostic supplies, not nearly enough people will be tested anyway.
The only thing the health insurance industry is waiving right now is co-pay for TESTS, not treatments.

So a close staff member of Bolsonaro was tested positive for covid19, the president himself is in awaiting for the results. Bozo and Orange Trashman had a dinner discussion of state affairs, there's a chance the Donny my finally face what is due to him.

So what are people's opinion's on Trump closing down Travel from The United States and Europe
-
So what are people's opinion's on Trump closing down Travel from The United States and Europe
Well that depends on how easy is it to hop a bus from one of those European countries to the UK, then to the US.
It's not really clear, and it's an announcement that news media poked holes in after it came out.

Damn has anyone else seen their savings go down the drain due to the corona scare and the markets killing themselves?
Been wondering if there should be an investments thread in apforums knowing that we have quite a lot of people above 20 in here

I'd actually be interested in seeing tips from other members as well. (Probably a lot a members also in their 30s now)
I'm in New York City. It's kinda wild here. I've always been someone who is prepared for these sorts of things.
I've never touched the subway rails or much of anything public, but it just living on surfaces make the subways a cesspool. I feel like just stepping onto them is asking for it to infect you.
I've always had this weird thing where if someone asked me for a pen, I would say no. Because I didn't know where their hand has been. This would often lead to them saying something off color, giving a look, or just grabbing for it anyway because it's a "disposable item." Today was the first day I told someone no when they asked to use my pen and they understood. Acknowledged my decision as "smart."
Broadway shut down last night here. All of Broadway. All theater until April 12th, they'll reevaluate after that.
I work in the film industry, and it's beginning to affect many film and television sets. Most of which, including the one I was working on shut down last night.
A few shows that colleagues of mine worked on have reported that not only did production on their show stop– they prematurely and completely ended their season.
So expect certain shows to end unfulfilled or abruptly.

lmfao, coronavirus is gonna save us all, lol
Is your vice-president worse than Bolsonaro ?

Is your vice-president worse than Bolsonaro ?
I don't know much about him (he's a retired army general with no history in politics), but he expressed interest in writing a new constitution and has made some racist comments in the past.
Edit: Bolsonaro claims he tested negative;
Media claims it was Bolsonaro himself who had given them the news of a positive result earlier.

I work for a congressional candidate and we decided today to suspend campaign events and door-to-door canvassing.
So looks like I won't be working for at least a little while.
-
Tech industry, working from home.
Whenever you see the map without infected in venezuela, it should also say "3 incarcerated doctors for trying to sound the alarm"
-
So schools are closed from Monday next week in Hungary. Universities have already closed. Boy, am I glad I'm not a student anymore, and that I can easily work from home. I'm perhaps one of the least affected people by all this. Still, I'm sad for my friends at uni.
People really do seem on edge everywhere. And some choose to live out their fear in the worst ways possible, e.g. attacking people who are coughing and such.
Home-office has its perks though. I can catch up on some cleaning (my oven looks horrifying) and I might go out skateboarding during the day if the weather's alright.
-
Wow, that's crazy that they're that determined to cover it up, incarcerating doctors whose job it is to help people sick with it (or anything else).
–-----------------------------------
Well, we have branches of our observatory in Virginia, West Virginia, and New Mexico, and all three of those states have closed their schools. So at least here in the New Mexico portion, we're gonna work from home for the next three weeks, too.The state of New Mexico went from having no known cases to six reported cases just in the span of 24 hours. The first two were reported right here in our town, actually. Yay.
-
I work in the retail sector so, I'm interacting with scores of people each day and I can really work from home so, fun. My workplace has taken steps to curb transmission vectors but it's a high-traffic area so it's only a matter of time I think before someone in the store comes down with it.
I'm still not too worried about myself, personally, since I'm young and try to keep up common sense hygienic habits anyway but I'd still rather not catch this.
-

Yeah, things like that or like being racist, unfortunately. In addition to what Satsuki linked on the previous page, apparently even my dad experienced it a few weeks ago when he was in San Diego with my mom for her conference. He was sitting at the hotel pool, and there was an Asian man and his daughter there just minding their own business when some dude came up to them and tried to tell them they needed to leave the pool because "we don't want you here". Thankfully, my dad and another guy got this jackass to go away, but you gotta feel bad for this poor man and his little girl who weren't bothering anybody. And the plenty of other people who are being treated similarly/worse.
