It didn't take long for Kubo to insert his philosophical poetry that sounds cool but ultimately doesn't make sense.
Bleach Discussion: Aren't Fairytales Full of It? Is my suggestion
Kubo writes like a female in her 20s going through a mid life crisis or at least pretends he knows what it is like.
Seems like he made the two females the lead but evidently the British not-Ichigo is going to be the key
Bleach Discussion █: Soul Society, but not!

I suggest [Burn the Bleach].
I second that. At least Don Ramon did something. But for four chapter it has being a barrage of smug characters with sleek designs, unremarkable paper thin personalities, and a confuse lore. Are dragons just European hallows? So why does not SS take care of them? Why a hidden city for witches if the BBC announces their work against dragons? A power system that barely makes any sense. I give him that the use of the of the light dragons was pretty creative, but that's that.

This is Kubo we're talking about. Remember how Rukia described SS as being this fantastic "paradise", but then we actually go there and 90% of the place is a shithole?
-
Wow, didn't realize this witch stuff got new chapters beyond the one-shot. The cover title already makes me laugh.
DON'+ JUDGE A BOOK FROM I+S COVER
TI+E KUBO
Judging the cover as it is makes me feel like a bad person because of how uninteresting whatever little he slapped on it. You won this one, Kubo.
-
Seeing people outside of us talk about it, I'm convinced they forgot just how awful Kubo's writing is. Or they simply blinded themselves to it. The story's confusing and boring, characters are either smug or stupid, or both, and this taking place in the Bleach-verse seems like an incredibly stupid move. Bleach already had a score of problems, why add more to this? Did Kubo's editor not bother to tell him this was a terrible idea?

Even if he did it, there's no guarantee Kubo would have listened.

…Wait, did it just end at chapter 4? I thought this was going to be fully serialized. Also, Mangaplus doesn't even have chapter 2 out of 4.
I still don't know what to think of this series. Is this a canonically shared universe with Bleach? I'd assume so due to how their magic works like Kidou. It's just that the protagonists feel kinda lackluster in a way that they feel the same as Ichigo was: passive protagonist with no goal who simply reacts to things happening to him and his surroundings.
I know the blonde witch one actually has a goal, but it's not really presented as an interesting one even in-universe. That is, unless I'm mistaking the significance of climbing up in rank for her or if there's even something at stake if her goal isn't realized.
-
I don't understand why people on other communities (Reddit, Facebook) are hyping it up as much.
This was also the same group that was pivoting between bitching about the final arc and making it very personal (against Kubo) during Bleach last legs.
Nostalgia is a serious weird drug and everyone will change their mind, regardless of how irrational it may seem, just to identify with something again.Huh, that means Kubo knows exactly what he's doing but incorporating soul society and bleach into this.
Niceeeee -
I'm also baffled by people getting hyped for this series, finding it entertaining, liking the characters as if they are not passive cardboard cuts of protagonists, ogling over Kubo's keel designs. It's like the never learn.
Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you. Fool me hundreds of times and capitalism indoctrination towards mindless consumption of media is working just fine. -
This is a weird manga in general. A short serialization (it was always going to be 4 chapters, that was expected) that is a tie in between the one shot and an upcoming movie, and on the lat chapter Kubo revealed he's working on season 2. At this point I'm gessing Sonen Jump is kind of desperate so they're giving Kubo leeway to have a special schedule just to keep his name associated with the magazine after Kishimoto flopped.
-
If only Kishimoto only had chosen to do Mario instead of space samurais…
-
The question is: How many seasons will it have?
-
Seasons are just extended hiatuses.
Maybe Togashi should adopt Kubo's new innovative approach instead of saying he has to go on hiatus, just say it's time for season 13 of hunter to end in 10 chapters -
I doubt togashi would be able to do a closed story in a season. By any known meaning of the word.
-
I mean, this manga called 4 chapters of lackluster content a season but I guess it does fulfill the criteria of a closed story.. although I would argue content-wise whatever togashi churn out would be of more quantity, probably quality… and alot of words.
..They really shouldn't call this a season. -
Seasons are actually a thing in the manhwa world but they of course last a lot longer than 4 chapters.
-
I am now convinced that Soul Society and Hueco Mundo are the same arc.
-
How do people need an analysis video to highlight that is weird.
Its 50minutes long and I have no idea why this video is even needed.
But hey, doubling down and kicking a dead dog is fun too.Bleach writing is pulled out of Kubo arse and like, no in depth analysis is necessary to point that out.
Maybe the reason why it becomes shit needs to be analyzed but that's kind of obvious.Well anyway, regarding Hueco Muncho,
There's way too many similarities even back then when it was running people was calling it Soul Society 2.0
All the parallels were mentioned before…and well, I remember all of them because I'm old. -
Wait, is he doing an apology video for doing the definitive Bleach takedown video? Why? He was right the first time.
-
The nostalgia goggles are kicking in for a lot of people. That is why you have people actually expecting things from Burn the Witch.
I have not watched that video but i doubt he is saying it is good now.
-
Nah it's likely more of a rehash and better version of his older video and in this case he probably goes more in depth.
It's fine and nice but it's obviously trying to capitalize on what PatTraverse said.
So basically for anyone who has read Bleach, it's reaffirmation on why it sucks so people can feel good about themselves and basic common sense turned into a longass essay. -
Last time he started on shaky grounds, now he supported with manga sales instead of TOC positions. And I think that this time went into detail of condom aizen, our best friend suspender aizen, ramen aizen and whdhsgsbbachasd or what’s his name. Last time I think was more nebulous. Tldw; bleach is still bad, the reasons are the same, ichigo cant carry a series, the battles had no stakes and no choreography, and everyone wins by pulling something bigger from their asses. But the video is shit because he praises the Gremmy vs Kempachi fight, you know, the one where the guy with the power of imagination imagines another of himself to throw a bigger meteor at kempachi, and loses because he can’t imagine himself being stronger than kempachi.
-
He admits some of his opinions in the first video were based on knee-jerk reaction at the ending of the series plus not going in-depth in certain aspects on the business side of things (In that Kubo ended it rather than SJ canceling it, sales for the manga and DVD difference, etc).
In this go-around, he goes more into what the show's about and his opinions on some of its faults. Some of them are the same as his first video, but he explains a bit in more detail. He's jokey but respectful about it, admits to his blunders, and pretty much stated at the end you don't have to take his word at face value, he's just analyzing things. If you still like it, that's fine. For the most part, I do agree with most of his statements: There's not much growth to Ichigo's character, battles are more determined who can pull out the bigger gun than any real strategy, wonky narrative, too many characters, etc.
Granted I don't hate Bleach just disappointed how it finished, so I see where he's coming from.
-
Wait, is he doing an apology video for doing the definitive Bleach takedown video? Why? He was right the first time.
Basically, he got some of things he used to describe the ending/decline of Bleach objectively wrong, and due to the original Bleach video being one of his most popular ones, his increased viewership since, and Bleachs' impending revival, he got conscientous about it and decided to reread the entire thing from scratch.
Though he still ultimately comes down on a lot of the same storytelling problems as before, he also spends more time going through what actually worked about the series in the first time.
…Is this gonna be one of those times where a whole bunch of discussion is made on a video where almost no one watches said video?

But seriously, tearing through Bleach on a weekly basis was my claim to fame on this forum back in the day, but also set the stage for me becoming more critical of fictional works in general. Spending time on why something absolutely didn't work gave me greater appreciation and understanding for stuff that did.
Bleach helped teach me the importance of pacing, tone, framing, clear motivations and clear stakes - both practical and emotional, setups and payoffs by being really bad at all of them
-
If you remove the dragon ball syndrome and flashiness out of Bleach , there's sadly usually very little left.
I can say that for a few series in the past 'big3" generation too.Bleach could do better in a lot of aspects but no matter how bad pacing, tone or the usual aspects can be, ultimately it boils down to a very, very weak purpose and him not having a story to tell.
He is just very centered on making his characters look cool, have "cool" moments and want to come off as someone deeper than he really is.
While it wasn't realising the flaws in Bleach that initially made me disliked it, it was the introduction to better written series such as Hunter X Hunter and Gintama that blows Bleach so out of the water revisiting it afterwards was no longer the same.I always believe that once you get an understanding of an author as a person and the story he is capable of telling, there is little point in zooming in on details and aspects of the story because it becomes very clear what the end product will be.
Of course I realize I'm a bit arrogant making that statement as if reading someone's life work means I'm capable of thoroughly understanding someoneBut anyway, the older Naruto and Bleach threads was a mine for comedy gold and I used to always come back here as a kid and was a huge fan of the comedy-criticism by the older members.
-
So, I'm reading part 7 of Jojo, only up to chapter 40 no spoilers beyond that. I won't spoil for anyone not at Steel Ball Run, but I noticed that the characters all collecting the pieces of a certain corpse is way to close to the Soul King from Bleach.
-
Except we got no information or reason why Soul King was dismembered and crystallized, why the other is a corpse, you know. A regular corpse in not that hard to dismember. :ninja:
-
Nurahiyon no Mago did the "Body Parts turned into People" element better.
-

i know. Kubo introduces an element to the story and doesn't bother to elaborate on it. Crazy right? Still not sure what his "plan" for the SK was even supposed to be. Or why Bach was his "son". It honestly just felt like Kubo was throwing every possible idea he had into the story without any thought on whether or not it conflicted with anything else.

It seems like Bleach will get a new special chapter of 73 pages for its 20th Anniversary in Shonen Jump#36/37.
-
Any excitement over that is tempered by memories of what Bleach was by the time it ended.

Unless you're the 300 or so fans that think that Kubo got screwed to the wall by his publisher.
-
I think I saw some of those 300 on r/manga today.

That's great to hear! Really looking forward to it!

That's actually exactly the reason why I'm excited. There's no other series hilariously as Bleach was. I just hope Chair makes a return. That aside who wants to bet that the humor will be characters randomly shouting at each other?
-
Oh god, really? that's terrifying. I don't trust kubo to deliver on anything. It's just gonna be vapid nonsense that explains very little.
-
73 pages? Kubo coming back to bless the manga world. He's so humble
-
Wait for it to be a major portion of it to be related to Burn the Witch just so he can cash on it
-
Gonna have to check out more of his videos. He doesn't seem like one of the crazy Kubo fans, more open to accepting there were a lot of missteps and mistakes with Bleach. Though i disagree with his viewpoint on 'What Went Wrong With the Sternritter'. Them having "fraccions", as it were, probably wouldn't have fixed them.

73 pages…..crazy.
I've been involved with Bleach for such a long time....most of it spent being disappointed on it, making bigass blog posts dissecting it.
writing fanfiction, and ever since it ended I was just quietly watching it from afar, reflecting on what was.Them having "fraccions", as it were, probably wouldn't have fixed them.
It was already bloated enough to have 26+x of them floating around. Now you want to throw in minions? Lol, nah. I stand by the fact that there was just too many of them…..and now I'm remembering the headaches from Royd/Lloyd and Brain Boy.

Which is why i said it wouldn't have helped. Kubo could've had the sternritter divided by a ranking system. Have them grouped up in fives, with their importance going down with the alphabet. A-E, F-J, K-O, P-T, U-Z. Perhaps give the different groups unique functions? One is for reconnaissance, another is R&D, so on and so forth. This way the reader understands they're above the normal wandenreich quincy, but not equal to each other. Also, not make them unrepentant assholes who kill their own for no fucking reason. Any little thing. But Kubo could barely do the bare minimum.

So apparently:
! Gotei 13 Captains, Vice-Captains and Third Seats don't get reincarnated, but rather go to hell when they die because their souls are too strong to remain around or be sent to the Human world. This also applies to Hollows or anyone powerful enough.
! So yeah, it seems Yamamoto, Unohana, Komamura etc. have all gone to eternal damnation. And that's the eventual fate of Rukia, Renji and Co.
! How pleasant. -
If this is true, leave it to Kubo to come up with just the stupidest thing possible. Wouldn't this fuck with the "soul balance" since eventually more powerful souls would end up there instead of being born on earth? Or is Hell somehow excluded from that?
-

I don't remember it really well: is Bleach's canon hell the same of the movie?
-

I believe that's actually a plot point.

-
! Can't wait for the "Aizen's purpose was to free people by end in the hell all along" revelation.
! Also, hoping for some Bankai. -
I started to read this series back in high school and I followed it till the end.
I hated the last arc with the Quincies and the route which Kubo chose.
But somehow this new chapter felt flesh and enjoyable.
Strange times…
