Bleach Discussion █: Soul Society, but not!

There are people that, sigh, still think it's a good series and there was news that the anime would return since last year.
-
It's still so incredibly iconic (read: mind-boggling) that by the end of the series its protagonist was essentially just a puppet making reaction faces.
Okay, stories can have character derailment, botched character arcs, nonsensical motivations, that's all okay, but he literally had no personality for a very long time.
The main character of a 100s of chapters-long series had no (or very little personality) for much of it.The final blow to the final big bad was just a reaction face. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but that's the one thing that's etched into my mind from it.
-
I know that I read Bleach very fast, because let's be honest besides the intro and Soul Society Arc there's very little that sticks to you. IMO Ichigo has basically zero personality, for 90% of the plot he is just there because he's the MC and need to be there.
The only characters that stick to me were Yoruichi, Urahara and Mayuri. -

I'm assuming that distance and nostalgia making everyone forget what the final…decade? of Bleach's existence was like.

Let's hope they actually fix the arc in the anime. But even if not, the fanbyos will eat it up, they already all creamin and still not seeing any flaws with their master Kubo.

this! Hope to god they fix the final arcs many fucking problems.
-
At least show Chad beating up those fucking statues, lol.
Super hyped for Ichibei vs Bach episode (ink fight). :ninja:

"Always toward absent lovers love's tide stronger flows."

That sounds like a Republican.

The whole arc is a fucking problem.
-
Burn the witch comes back just in time for hachimaru's ending, what a coincidence.
-
Yeah, that entire arc is such an appalling mess that Bleach would have been better off as one of those series where the people making the anime just made up their own ending.

Wait that's not what happened?
-
Wait that's not what happened?
You're probably confused because it ended with a remake of the Bount Arc but one that was actually canon to the manga.
-
Think the arc had interesting and engaging points. The anime should capitalize on that parts and maybe try to tie a couple of loose ends. If they keep the general animation quality from before, it should still be a lot more watchable than anything I've seen in OP in last couple years.

I finally get to see Yamamoto go all out against fodder and die.
And after all this years all that money is going to go into adapting Ichigo new bankai that looks almost exactly the same.
Can't wait for glorious sand statues and one scene of grimmjow.
Remember back when the anime was good and the anime team shipped Ichigo and Rukia so hard?
Welp those staff probably have families now .
Someone stop me. -
I can't wait for Ishida to do NOTHING of worth for the whole arc.
Or have all the captains go bankai and still not kill Thor. -
It's amazing how much lack of planning that arc oozes. And yet somehow Kubo had the nerve to say in the artbook the entire arcs are planned as soon as he started them.
-

Or have all the captains go bankai and still not kill Thor.Sadky enough, Ishida did it more in this arc than Chad and Harribel.

So sad, Chad is my favorite character in Bleach and he always gets destroyed
It’s like being a Yamcha fan in Dragon Ball Z
-
So Kubo has the gall to say he planned Ascended Bach to be offed by 10yo. That takes balls.
-
The real news is that the AP Bleach thread gets a remake.
-
How does any anime director look at the manga and go "yeah I'll do this with passion"
It's like you have half your storyboard missing -
I'm looking forward to this. There were a lot of cool scenes and I think seeing the arc animated will be a lot of fun.
Also since its been so long and I'm pretty sure I never actually finished the series it will be like all new bleach to me lol
-
Bleach is a top 5 manga. This will be cool to see animated
-
I'll probably just watch the Mayuri scenes and Yamamoto's Bankai.
-
they should animate those novels too so they can pretend that the story had actual closure and that side characters got to do things
-

Top 5 what manga? Top 5 shonen, top 5 ever?
-
-
Top 5 manga ever
There certainly are a wide range of opinions on all things. I can hardly look down on any when I'd put 2003 Hulk over a couple MCU movies. But Bleach is legitimately near the bottom of my list of manga I've ever read.

Didn't know that. Never seen that Hulk either

Top 5 manga ever
April fools is like almost a week away. Should've saved that post until that period.

A fact is a fact. You seem to enjoy fighting it tho…
-
Oh, fact is a fact.
Just that Bleach being top 5 manga ever(lol) isn't.
-
It was in the top 5. But sometimes during 2012 Ithink, it dropped significantly. Out of the top ten and never recovered.
-
Probably in terms of sales.
Quality-wise, it wasnt top in anything.
-
Here we go again
-
Top 5 starting from the bottom
Altho the character designs is very good, it was going great until they entered hueco mundo.
-
Not sure if watching the final arc animated would be nearly as fun as the train wreck that was the manga. One of the moments I remember most was the back to back two page spread of Ichigo going Bankai after his "training" with the elite squad. It was basically the same page but the second one the sword was cut in half and it took me some time to realize there was a difference. I'm conflicted on going through the final arc again years later. At the time it was easy to read a chapter a week and make fun of it, not sure consuming all of it in quick succession would be a wise move.
-
"Top whatevers" are always based on personal taste and preference (unless we are specifically basing it in a quantifiable variable like sales), so let people have their top's.
As for my own opinion, I think Bleach was a great shonen for a while, handling the tropes and strong point of the genre incredibly well, but when it fell it did it so hard I can't look back and see the whole thing under a positive light. I like a lot of its characters regardless - Tousen is among my absolute favorite characters from any manga (get over it) -, but Bleach itself was completely soured in my eyes and ended up looking as a very poor title.
-
Bleach may be used as a cautionary tale of how not write long mangas with zero planning ahead.
-

Not sure what you mean, it's the best manga ever written, drawn and quartered.

I remember that chapter. First time I saw it, I was laughing for nearly five minutes.
If you're gonna reread the final arc, you should probably pace yourself. I might do that. If only to refresh myself on the shit writing and wasted potential.
-
There was potential?
-
I loved the beginning of Bleach, that introduced us to Ichigo and Rukia and all the support characters as well as the concepts of Hollows and Shinigami
and Soul Society arc is one of my favorites in all of the manga I've read
then it still kept my interest with the threat of more powerful hollows that could give even captains a run for there money before they became arrancar's and even more so after
and making that sick mask to make him stronger along with other vizards was kind of cool
and then hucendo mundo happened and it was basically just battle after battle, enjoyable but nothing special
then Ichigo fought the fourth espada and went all Hollow… and after that it started to nose dive
and each progressing arc got worse then the last
and I honestly can't fathom why anyone would be interested in seeing the last arc reanimated, because it was a garbage dumpster fire
-

I kind of want to reread the entire series again, though may skip the fullbringer arc because the first time around was hard enough. I do miss the series out of the shit posts here and there was that blog site some of the users here contributed to that were hilarious to read.
If there was one wasted potential, it was the chair Aizen was sitting on. So much talk here about that chair and it was unceremoniously destroyed, such a sad day when that chapter came out.
-

Well obviously not for the story. Bleach had some quality animation and a bitchin soundtrack. And some of those fights were so crazily over the top that I just can't imagine not wanting to see them animated. Then there's hilarious future meme potential.
-
Honestly, Opie's fight and Unohana's scene are the only things I would want to check from this arc. And I definitely don't see how that's enough to grant this abomination of an arc its adaptation… If I was Kubo, I would thank god the anime was cancelled after the Fullbringers arc so at least to the anime-only audience that was the lowest Bleach manage to sank.
The worst part is that the arc actually starts pretty good. The first Quincy invasion is really good, between the Soul Society having its ass kicked and Ichigo's group+help being a complete mess trying to adapt to an enemy they clearly weren't ready to fight, that opening act gives you a sense of dread like no other arc in Bleach had before. But as soon as that is over, you can tell Kubo had absolutely nothing planned for the rest of the arc. Nothing. Not even the big events, not even the plot's backbone... NOTHING. And, damn, it shows.
-
There was potential?
It because it had potential that people were stucking with it.
