Wasn’t the concensus on the other thread that middle of the road people were ok with trump because the economy was “better” and if not directly assaulted by the orange that was enough for a passing grade? Neither economy nor actual survival of human beings, and muricans at that, can be swept away that easily.
Florida is such a weird place tho, the Latino community, the retirement community, the Florida-men and the spring breakers.

I doubt actually reduce, fresh produce does have more nutrients but against this thing I doubt bitting a live salmon would keep you healthy.
So how's everyone doing? Nobody going stir-crazy yet?
So how's everyone doing? Nobody going stir-crazy yet?
Lmao, I seriously just texted this same picture to my whole family yesterday. So fitting.
Well, on one hand, I'm doing fine. I've got a new set of tasks at my job that means more work and more pay, and I'm possible in the process of being made a full pledged employee. Right now I'm working through a student job company that also employs non-students (don't ask my how it works, I have no idea). After some adjusting, I think I'll do fine. It's mostly administrative work. At first I also had scheduling responsibilities which involved calling freelancers and asking them if they could do job A or B in the near future and generally deciding which of them gets which work; this wasn't my cup of tea. Seriously out of my comfort zone and not in a good way. Luckily we were able to sort it out.
On the other hand, I'm starting to feel the effects of the quarantine. I'm an introvert, so I'm less severely affected than my mom for example, but I noticed I was getting depressed more frequently and my mental health isn't as stable as it should be. I'm keeping myself together with daily meditations, an exercise plan and proper eating, but it takes a lot of effort to keep on going as effectively as possible. I've bought keyboards to satiate my longing for playing instruments, and I also keep on writing my short stories.
I can also play with my friends on a daily basis via the magic of the internet, but it becomes less fun, when they stay up till 2am and I can't keep up with them because I have work the next day. Not that it was any other way before, but nowadays it just piles up onto the ever growing list of things that makes me depressed. Luckily my therapist offers Skype sessions which, while not as good as regular ones, are incredibly useful in these times.
I only venture off my property once every two weeks to get groceries. This was already basically the state of things for me, but now I don't even have to go to work because I work for a library and therefore get paid regardless.
Shit, Easter was just me my mom and my stepfather making waffles and eating ham.
My sleep schedule is fucked, however. With no real reason to be up at 9, I basically stay up til 8 in the morning, sleep til 4, and repeat.
Most of my feelings regarding the quarantine are #firstworldproblem level nonsense so I won't voice anything like that. With so many people losing their jobs, one of them being my mother, I'm just grateful that I have work and a stable source of income.
My only real complaint comes from at work that it feels like there are way to many people shopping just so they can get out of the house and that my job (Target) isn't doing enough to limit/discourage so of these people. The WalMart right down the highway has an actual limit that can be reached causing a line outside the doors. This means people come just cause they don't want to wait at Wal-Mart. The limit at my store is so high it might as well not be there. The only time we get close to the number is when someone does a miscount on the numbers. Non-essential parts of the store aren't barred off either.
While we aren't NY, NJ is still second and right next to the epicenter. At least we have mandatory masks/face covering requirements for the store.
So how's everyone doing? Nobody going stir-crazy yet?
The image didn't display properly for me and the link was invisible, so I started wondering if you'd been hacked.

You're not alone there, unless I have to work the next day my schedule is completely fucked. I stay up until 3-4am, wake up around 12-1pm, take a nap later for like at least 4 hours then get up and stay up way too late again.
I mean, I've always had a bad sleep schedule since I'm such a night owl, but man, it's hard to get back to normal.

Really? Well, as far as I know my laptop is fine.
Oh wow, the forums back! Hope everyone's been staying safe and productive these past few weeks!
I'm fortunate that my work schedule has been the same, just that since elective surgeries are gone at the moment the work load has been very small. Back in February before my vacation it was a warzone every night, now there can be hours of doing nothing but trying to find something to do. Glad my work is doing stuff behind the scenes away from patients, everyone who has to work directly with patients are extra stressed out and really feel for them.

Same here… Healthcare IT working from home doing behind the scenes work. I feel for my peers still going to the hospital every day.
So how's everyone doing? Nobody going stir-crazy yet?
"But if the Mongols harvest and eat the turnips the siege will last even longer, and they will have eaten MY TURNIPS!"
lol. Sadly COVID-19 doesn't eat turnips, it eats YOU.
Missouri's now suing China for COVID19.
Won't work.
My pay at work has gone up and the store's hours have shifted so I don't have to work quite as deep into the night when closing now without getting any of my hours cut so that's a silver lining. Like the competent businesses we've established pretty extensive safety measures (plexiglass barriers where needed, masks, gloves, limited number of customers in the store, distancing, temperature checks, etc.) and so far we've had no cases, which is great considering our size and location. Customers have been very understanding and generally well-behaved too, though there is of course the occasional asshole who thinks the rules don't apply to them and gets affronted when we enforce them. Overall much more sedate and sane than it was during those crazy two weeks in February and March.
When I'm off work I do get a little stir-crazy sitting around the house all day, pandemic not required, so when weather permits I've been going on long walks around the neighborhood, exploring side streets and areas that I haven't checked out yet. It's not too hard to avoid other people that way, and my aunt sent the family a whole bunch of masks that she made so I make sure to keep them around when I do have to venture into more heavily-populated areas. I'm bummed that a trip to the west coast that I was planning as a 30th birthday present to myself probably isn't going to happen now, but I'm still healthy and employed full-time, my roommates, family, and everyone else I know is still healthy and employed to some degree or other so I know that I'm a lot more fortunate than many others right now. Fingers crossed that it stays that way. I hope everyone here's doing the best they can as well.
I was out sick from work for a full month, including most of the downtime. Was originally for tonsillitis (had sore throat, migraines, and dizziness/lightheadedness), but I got bad side effects from the medicine and wound up getting sick with entirely new symptoms (shortness of breath, dry cough, cotton mouth, fatigue, congestion, etc). Doctor suggested bloodwork for mono to see if that's why my infection has been so recurring, and boss allowed me to stay home and rest (aka self-isolation just in case). Had to apply for disability pay but was denied so that's a month's pay gone lol also I have new medical bills to pay lolol. Curiously, a person I was closely working with the day I went home ill has also been out sick since that same day, and his gf has covid. So I'm wondering if they spread it to me. Notably, the day I come back was when they started implementing mandatory masks and extra ppe for our ppe (all provided for us). Does make me feel more safe at least. Benefits of working in virology I guess, gonna be an exciting year for us.
Still too chicken to go to a supermarket though.
This article is both hilarious and scary.
It's probably a good idea to avoid public toilets in the near future, if you weren't already.

gags Not what I want to think about.
Most stores however (including mine) have stopped letting the public use their bathrooms, so hopefully this won't be an issue.
I haven't worked since mid March, but I was officially given notice that there will be a massive workforce reduction and I have been laid off my City job. I would have received my 20 year pin this year. :/
So now the Dumbass-in-Chief thinks injecting disinfectant is the best way to fight COVID-19. Because that's better than gargling bleach, right?

Ouch, that sucks. Are you just furloughed, or are you fired-fired?

Bummer…..still,stay positive.
Fired-fired. There is a good chance I could come back when all the programs open up again. It's just a sad state of affairs. We had a virtual meeting with a lot of the people who are being laid off and I have worked with some of them for many, many years, and who knows who may choose to move on to other things rather than wait and see.
I'm still trying to navigate unemployment. I'm glad I applied 3 weeks ago, but I wish I had started the process the moment everything was shutting down. I had just got a new Census job and they didn't shut that down until a couple of weeks later, literally the day I was going in for my fingerprint. I'm still employed, they're just on hold. (it's just a temporary job though)
Gotta love the spin doctors trying to say "Oh no Trump was just talking about this special treatment for cancer patients, not actual disinfectant". Even if I believed that, he has a responsibility to be clear about what he's talking about.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you've been able to get food at least.

Are there even any cancer treatments that involve injecting things into lungs?
I couldn't find similar treatments of any kind for any medical condition on Google.

Oh yeah, that's not a concern right now. My husband kept his job and he's working from home, so basic needs and bills should be fine. Fortunately we already had made some cutbacks recently on services and subscriptions, and as sad as it was that our old cat died last month, she was costing us a lot of money in medical treatment and food (kidney failure cats are hard to find food for, they get convinced all food is poison or something) not including her monthly plan at Banfield and I'm glad we aren't dealing with that now.

I really have no idea, probably not, just saying what some spin doctor said. Of course, Trump himself said he was being "sarcastic" (which is obviously a lie, but would be terrible if true also to make light of this stuff), so obviously he really wasn't talking about some mysterious treatment. The holes he digs himself into are so deep, I don't know how anyone still continues to praise him like he's some kind of god.
Well he's not wrong in the sense that drinking bleach would solve your coronavirus problem! It would solve all your problems!
(Don't drink bleach kids)
Trump is a wide-awake nightmare with these briefings. I'm trying to ignore them, but then I'm seeing snippets of stories saying he's trying to kill COVID with the sun or inject cleaning supplies into our blood and I don't know what's going on. It doesn't help that Mitch is suggesting bankrupting blue states during this whole mess, which would include me. It's stressful enough working during these times. Frankly, everyone has been great all things considered, but I've seen a few good people get worn down by this thing.
Brb going to IV drip a bottle of Purell into my blood stream.
Oh man… that's hilarious.
Poor Lysol and people had to put out warnings on their sites and social media saying, "DON'T DO THAT!"
That might actually be useful now that there's been an increase in people drinking or inhaling disinfectants.
Big ups to the Trump administration for invoking the swallowing of toxic household chemicals. Proud of how my country is responding to this pandemic.

Alright… alright! You win, I'll bite. I can somewhat understand (I can't, but lets just say I do) the little passive aggressive temper tantrum you threw in the 2-3 days following our 'conversation', but imagine still being this bitter over a month later.
"I'm going to wait and see if the chronic liar narcissist will keep his promises" says easily duped rube.
Also, what happened to me being wrong about the Trump checks? I trust you returned yours, rube-kun?
Imagine being this bitter over a month later.

It's a cute attempt at mocking me for my post back on page 13 for praising some decent ideas and responses by the administration at the time. http://www.apforums.net/showthread.php?t=54637&page=13

I thought you were talking about the time Trump suggested using chloroquine and someone accidentally poisoned themselves with fish tank cleaner while trying what they thought was his advice.
That was about a month ago.

Ahhh no. Definitely not what bitter-chan or myself are talking about.
Perfect beach weather this weekend in SoCal. Cue thousands of out-of-towners from Los Angeles, San Diego, etc. swamping the local Orange County beaches ignoring all social distancing and mask guidelines. Actual beach parking has been closed off for weeks, so they just took to the residential neighborhoods. We have very few covid cases compared to other areas, I imagine this will drive the numbers up soon. Complete trash, all of them. Only state beaches in Orange County have been closed, county and city beaches are still open. Hopefully they'll reconsider after this weekend since this will be a huge problem with summer coming up. Or at least enforce a more manageable locals-only rule. Shoobies ruin everything.
Normally I would quote something Charles Darwin here, but unfortunately it's not just them that fall to evolution this time . . .
SNL and Brad Pitt know how to do it:

The Air Force will be doing fly overs later today in areas between Jersey and where I live in Suffolk NY. Every day now our local firefighters and EMT's have been doing "drive bys" blaring the sirens. But I mean, what's the point?
I'm trying not to be the asshole here. I'm really not. I'm not a healthcare worker, on the receiving end of these things. But I am an "essential worker" as a delivery driver who's also been delivering a BUNCH of food to hospitals, including the local COVID testing center in Stony Brook for weeks now. And hearing this shit…...it just seems depressing.
"Thanks for putting your health at risk. Here are some loud noises. Look above, planes go BRRRRRRRRR"
Can I maybe get some discount on masks since the only place selling them are one of the 4 7-11's that exists in the 5 mile radius around my house, that decided to mark up prices against their own signs, and having no response after 3 weeks from the NY State site set up to report things like this?
Like I'm really trying not to be the dick here, but what do these "shows of support" do? Yeah, you may not be wasting gas and oil given the prices right now, but I'd much rather hear "dozen Air force pilots bottled hand santizier to give to healthcare workers" or "sewed masks for locals" rather than have my dogs go barking yet again because the jets are flying over or the fire department is halting me from delivering food TO A FUCKING HOSPITAL so they can drive by.
You know the "shows of support" I care about? Seeing the local kids putting drawings and signs thanking everyone in their windows, on their doors, near stop signs. That makes sense. I'm absolutely hating me trying to pay my bills, while also risking my health daily now, only to be stopped at the light for 15 minutes as 30 firetrucks come blazing in to "show support" as some nurse texts me "dude, where's my food" because the chinese place I'm delivering from is completely swamped with deliveries and now I'm waiting even longer just to cross the road because every fire department in the area decided to "show support".
The airplanes are just Trump waving his hand to try to make people think he's actually caring.
I'd actually take that over the real Airforce, for the pure comical value.
"They're saying nobody has ever seen such amazing waving. INCREDIBLE waving, as I'm told. Of all the Presidents, they're saying my waving to the Chinese flu patients has been the best. BIGLY, the best."
And then a day later we'd get…
"I was CLEARLY being sarcastic when I talked about my waving. The LAIMSTREAM media once again claims I was waving from the airplane, which is an amazing invention. Only can we create these metal birds. But I was being SARCASTIC when I waved at them. Right Dr Birxx? She says I did great right?"
Birx: stares knowing her career is ruined by all of this
My big gripe, at least with the people I know who are posting thank you's and calling essential workers heroes, is how deep down many don't really care. A lot of people before this have berated people for what they consider worthless, low skilled jobs. When those workers wanted something to be better, whether wages or something else, many would berate them for that. Now, since they are forced to work in even worse conditions where they could contract this disease, these people who looked down at these jobs suddenly are grateful and putting them on a pedestal, for now. I know there is hazard pay that some places are giving out to make up for it, but once this is over they pay drops back to before, and once it all goes away we are back at square one.
I would be fine with people doing these gestures if they were also deciding back them in making sure once this is over they get paid for what is an essential job and important to society pandemic or not. However, they feel fine with just a pat on the back and anyone complaining about legitimate grievances are ignored and not considered true heroes. Personally, I feel at bare minimum, all these places giving an extra dollar or two an hour for working during this time should keep that as the minimum base pay. Increasing pay for all essential workers across the board after this would be great, but that definitely will not happen. Sucks that so many places are not doing enough to help out those who need leave for various reasons, and that many could get huge medical bills from this which would be quite difficult to recover from.
It reminds me of how a lot of people are all gung-ho in "support our troops!" but whenever there's even the slightest possibility of another war they just want to throw Americans at the problem and turn them into corpses. :/
It's just a virtue signal, basically.
Thoughts and prayers is as good as actual change is it not.

Supposedly people in Budapest do a daily "clap to thank the healthcare workers" routine. I never heard it, but my friend who lives on the other side of the Danube can attest to it happening. My reaction is basically "how about instead of clapping, the government gives our doctors and nurses livable wage? Now THAT would be a true sign of thanks to them", but I guess they have to make do with claps they probably can't even hear because there's a pandemic going on.

I hate to admit that I have to consistently and consciously make an effort, to rewire my brain from "low-skilled jobs are dead-ends that deserve minimal respect" to "they're doing their job same as anyone else and their work is often more important and vital than those with higher pay". It's not like I was actively raised that way, but I think society likes to paint these jobs are temporary bad positions that are mere stepping stones to the "real" and "good" jobs.
I mean, there's plenty of "jobs" we can look down on, like televangelists and other people who prey on the poor and vulnerable.

I had to come to that conclusion after the 2008 recession when all of my friends ended up stuck in low-paying jobs they were overqualified for and I was the lucky one who somehow "earned" more than any of them by being on disability.
"That's just a job for high school kids to make extra money" is something that gets thrown around a lot re: those jobs, but I've seen plenty of older people working in jobs with low pay and low respect too. Also some people aren't able to find different jobs or can only do specific jobs due to disability, and some people genuinely enjoy that kind of work.
