! I know he probably dropped it off in the timeline with the Reality Stone, but I hope Steve kept Mjolnir and beat HYDRA's ass with it in his retirement timeline.

https://ew.com/movies/2019/04/30/avengers-endgame-russo-brothers-captain-america/Ah good, the explanation that probably begs the fewer questions is the canon one. Because if one takes that scene at face value it really… kinda unravels the entire underlying logic of how everything in this movie works.

Good Lord, five days in and Endgame has already passed The Last Jedi's worldwide take and is just four million behind Black Panther's.
The real question is if James Cameron is gonna lose his record after more than 20 years(with Titanic than Avatar). It would probably feel strange after so long holding it.

! So did everyone in Spider-Man's social circle also get poofed during the snap for them to all still be the same age after being returned? Like Ned, MJ, Flash Thompson, and his other school friends who are with him in the Far From Home trailer?

! I'm going to assume so, otherwise how would they be there? The rest of their class can be grown, but these guys stay for story.

! Not any weirder then all but one of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Clint's entire family but him getting snapped. IMO.

! Really really hope they go for Siri/IronHeart now, that 5 years span was more than enoguh for Tony to build some sort of 'whoever is worthy of this suit will be IronMan' kind of thing, with Danvers and Sam/Cap, things are settled for the next gen.

For anyone slightly confused about what happens to Captain America, The Russos break down exactly what happened https://bgr.com/2019/04/30/avengers-endgame-ending-russo-brothers-on-captain-america-iron-man/
! they confirm that it's full on DBZ time travel rules. You go back, you create an alternate timeline. You can't change the past. Steve went back and married Peggy in a newly created timeline and hopped back to his original timeline when we last see him, also explaining how Steve got a fully intact shield

! So what does that mean for the Avengers movies and his own two sequels?
-
@S.C.:
! So what does that mean for the Avengers movies and his own two sequels?
! Do you mean in terms of the timeline where Cap lives with Peggy? As JR said
! > Q: Did Captain America's action at the end affect the timeline? Does that mean there was a time where two CA existed in a same universe?A: To me, CA's action in the end wasn't the fact he wanted to change anything, it's more like me has made a choice. He chose to go back to past and lived with the one he loved for the rest of his life. The time travel in this movie created an alternate reality. He lived a completely different life in that world. We don't know how exactly his life turned out, but I'd like to believe he still helped many others when they were needed in that world. Yes, there were two CA in that reality, it's just like what Hulk said, what happened in the past has already happened. If you go back to past, you simply created a new reality. The characters in this movie created new timeline when they went back to the past, but it had no effect to the prime universe. What happened in the past 22 movies was still canon.
! So in this newly created timeline, Steve goes back to live with Peggy, while the Steve from that timeline is still in the ice. While he DOES change that timelines history by marrying Peggy(where as in the OG timeline Peggy marries someone else), he's pretty much just living in retirement. In that timeline, certain events likely will end up transpiring completely differently. But as far as the regular MCU canon, everything still happened as seen. -
The real question is if James Cameron is gonna lose his record after more than 20 years(with Titanic than Avatar). It would probably feel strange after so long holding it.
Titanic is almost certainly going to be beaten at this rate, possibly as soon as next weekend if it keeps going crazy like this. Star Wars 7 and IW came within spitting distance already. (And Titanic has the benefit of re-releases)
Avatar with its 3D gimmick and heavy Imax screen sales may be harder to top in actual profits though, while actual tickets sold may be passed. Conversely, Titanic got its ticket sales in 97 tho so it had more actual butts in seats.
Basically nothing is ever going to top Gone with the Wind or Star Wars for sheer ticket sales, but that was an entirely different era and each ticket cost almost nothing so just doing pure inflation math isn't quite fair.
-
That's why one should always take a grain of salt with sales records. I like how Box Office Mojo gives us a list of records with adjusted sales prices:
https://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htmGone With the Wind is still way number 1.

OH man I loved that movie, Saw it on Thursday and Friday and I'm seeing it again tomorrow
! I can't believe how many little things they put in there that people didn't notice
! like Falcon saying "On your left" or Wasp calling captain America Cap, then smiling at ant man
! hell they literally had Thanos hold the power stone just to confirm he was one of the few beings who could hold it without being disintegrated
! also I love the scene with all the Woman characters lined up, just great, but I'm afraid to look on less progressive forums with angry men shouting about sjw movements in film and what not -

The "on your left" part was the first part of the film that really brought me close to tears. Just seeing the look on Steve's face where he realizes Sam really is back and trying to talk to him. He doesn't respond and Sam delivers the line and just comes with the whole infantry.
! I really liked how they had Thanos take the Power Stone too. The Russos mentioned with Infinity War that part of the reason why Thanos was so physically overpowering was because the Power Stone was giving him strength and durability with his melee fighting. And looking at both movies fight scenes it really does genuinely feel like he was 'going easy' with his own strength in Infinity War, instead basking in the Stones power, as compared to here where he needed to go full out with his own strength. And holding the Power Stone and using it with his own will really shows his true strength
! And yeah. While I've avoided forums mentioning it, I did have a bad experience seeing Endgame in theaters the first time because of some doucey white boy sitting next to me who had to belittle any scenes with women. Especially THAT scene. -

I thought that scene was pretty cringy. It just seemed completely unnatural. The movie excelled at fanservice, but most of it worked because we were witnessing these characters that we loved doing the things that we love about them. All of those female heroes were great in one way or another, but not a part of me buys that they all just chose to come together for that scene, or that any of them but Captain Marvel was really necessary. It was weird in a bad way for me.

! I liked it. It was a good gesture on their part (I believe there was an unprecedented -for the MCU- allusion to someone being gay earlier in the movie so they finally broke out of their 'too safe' Disney shackles in that way, and in the vein of Black Panther breaking their barrier of having underrepresented minority groups getting the spotlight, gave an extra nod to women who are so often relegated to the role of mere love interest in these movies. It didn't really strike me in that way just how many of them there were until we saw their whole squadron in that shot, so I enjoyed seeing it brought fully to the forefront.
-
! I liked the symbolism of the scene but not the execution. It wasn't the moment to pose, I'd rather if it was every woman's dynamic entry moment instead of the awkward pane. Also, Cap Marvel is a Dragon Ball character in a Naruto level world she didn't really need the assist, the final run should have been handled by Nebula, or Gamora in a pinch, they had the most personal stakes in this.
! I would also liked Nat's private funeral, but then we'd have to share with Vision, as while Thor had 5 years to mourn his "really dead" characters, and the guardians are currently in denial with NEW Gamora, it was just them who kinda needed the other funeral. Well and the troops I guess. And the returned who's loved ones died during the timeskip. -
About that one scene
! normally don’t like here is how I would’ve written the story videos, but this video gives a pretty good rewrite of the women gathering scene, especially the rationale why the original scene isn’t ideal.

! Who's gay and how did I miss that? And also, Agents of Shield is part of the MCU and I miss Joey Gutierrez.
! Edit: Oh wait. The support group guy? I somehow expected him to be gay, too. It just fit. But that's just some guy, no offense to you, guy. -

Definitely 1 of the cringest scenes I've witnessed in a movie took me out of it for a second.

! Well, I loved it. One of the best and most exciting shots of the movie imo. Half an hour before that scene we had a full male cast brooding over the gauntlet and then facing Thanos.
! Noone bats an eye about that and why should we? So why is ONE full female shot cringy again? -

! Noone bats an eye about that and why should we? So why is ONE full female shot cringy again?! Because it didn't happen organically, it didn't makes sense in the context, and most of those characters didn't even know each other. It was just sort of a shot that was there for the sake of being there.
! The IDEA of that moment of "hey, here's all the women fighting together" is fine. That's cool. The same sort of moment a couple minutes earlier or later in a different context might have played better and been less cringey.
! Also given that Captain Marvel was involved, the rest seemed really superfluous. Like, are the C listers REALLY going to make a difference behind the SS+ player?
! Also also, Black Widow was missing so it was kind of ugggh. -

Only women arriving at Peters location first isn't more unbelievable than Captain America suddenly wielding the Hammer like a pro. Rule of Cool is in full swing, if I may.
! I'm not a friend of axing Black Widow mid-movie too though. And I can't recall if 2014 Gamora was shown. -
It didn't really bother me; it was silly fanservice that didn't have much effect on the plot

Doesn't the movie make any future Spiderman movie weird?
! It would be easy to gloss over the 5 years if they were already adults with steady lives. But I feel it would be a bit strange to find the same people back at the school.Or that 5 years didn't change anything in the lifestyle of a young man.

! when you look at those who were dusted, those that we knew for sure were Peter, Nick Furry, and Maria Hill. Who we all knew would be in the film. And Happy and Pepper, who weren't dusted.
! Outside of them, the main Spidey cast we know to be in the film is Aunt May, Ned, Betty Brant, Flash, MJ, and their teacher who took them on their past field trip.
! Realistically, we can half any of the adults listed there (Aunt May and the teacher) who very likely may not have been dusted. Only 5 years passed, so it's not unlikely to assume something like the Teacher just continued on, and Aunt May dealt with it.
! But the kids it seems were all dusted. Which, with 5 people honestly isn't unlikely. I mean, Hank, Hope, and Janet were all dusted (and likely Scott's friends since no one took the van).
! Sometimes that coin flip just doesn't end well with certain groups. -

! Sometimes that coin flip just doesn't end well with certain groups.! It's true, several groups have had a disproportionate number of them disappear. Of the six Guardians (minus Gamora), only Rocket survived (Nebula wasn't really one of them yet at that point so I didn't count her). Of the Barton family, only Clint survived. Of the entire Titan battle group, only two of the seven of them survived. So it's not that big a stretch for the majority of Peter Parker's social circle to largely have also been poofed away with him.

Eleven days in Endgame has already passed Titanic and The Force Awakens' worldwide box office.
-
So yeah, officially the second highest grossing film ever (not adjusted for inflation). At this rate, I think at actually could surpass Avatar.

Only (lol) needs about 600 million more to surpass it not including inflation. It's funny to think about the phenomena that was Avatar now. Very few people I know have retained even an ounce of the enthusiasm or wonder that they had when the film first came out.

If god were just, Endgame would overtake Gone With the Wind's inflation-adjusted gross.

That's because Avatar sucked and the ONLY thing it had going for it was the visuals and 3D gimmick. Without that, the lack of story, memorable characters, quotable lines…. there's nothing to hold a place in the pop culture. And a lot of people (like myself) only went to see it to see what the big deal was, and weren't impressed even in the theater.
The fact that it left zero impact on the landscape is pretty amazing.
It'll be really interesting to see how the second film does when it eventually hits. It's not a wild prediction to say it won't do AS well.... so the question is how close will it come? Will it even BE close or will no one care?
@Cyan:
If god were just, Endgame would overtake Gone With the Wind's inflation-adjusted gross.
Inflated gross GWTW is 3,703,000,000. It's…. probably not going to do that. Nothing is ever going to top a movie that was in theaters for five solid years in a time before tv when tickets cost five cents... and that has been rereleased multiple tmes over the last 60 years.
Inflated Avatar is 3,251,000,000, Titanic is 3,078,000,000, Star Wars is 3,041,000,000.
At the rate its going its entirely possible Endgame will catch those before it's done, but the GWTW record is tough

It would be like watching an Ant-man movie after the snap were no one they know got affected because they are just that lucky. If Pete doesn't have 1-2 friends that have graduated it will feel very artificial. At least to me.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also I really like that the movie doesn't have an end credit. It help sells the whole this is the end of this chapter of the MCU.
-
Endgame was very good overall, but was anyone else here disappointed by…
! The action scenes? All of the character stuff, changes to the status quo, and so on were great and totally lived up to the grand finale we were promised, but aside from Cap using Thor's hammer for the first time I can barely remember a single action beat from the movie. I wasn't keeping track of time, but it felt like the final battle wasn't even 20 minutes long. It felt like a big downgrade from Avengers 1's Battle in New York and Infinity War's "Everyone vs. Thanos."
-
As someone who only watched half of the MCU movies (most of them years after they came out), I really liked this one. The records that it is breaking are well deserved.
-
I don't know who exactly is Ben Shapiro, but 90% of the time I heard about him is him ruining something.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
On a more interesting note:
-
Part of me is excited about the multiverse being introduced in the MCU, part of me doesn't care and would rather it stay most relevant in the Miles Morales series.
-
Is the multiverse thing true or him bullshitting?
-
Is the multiverse thing true or him bullshitting?
That's what I was wondering.
Part of me believes that from the get go just because it is Mysterio's supposed backstory.
On the otherhand, I doubt Nick Furry would be pulled over by just a lie without some really hardcore evidence. He's just not the type of person to do that.
But it also makes me wonder about how they'll handle the multiverse if it is true.
Are they simply alternate earths slightly different just for the sake of being different
Are they a direct result of the time traveling in Endgame? Joe Russo confirmed that each time time travel is used, an alternate timeline is created and you can't change your own past. So is Mysterio from one of the timelines created by Endgame? Did the snap simply weaken the barrier between the timelines, so someone could travel without using Pym Particles?
Well, all things considered I will give it to Marvel for putting out a 3 minute trailer that will lead to 3 billion Youtube videos solely focused on analyzing the multiverse line.
-
It was first mentioned in Dr. Strange i think so it's definitely a thing and probably something they will make use of in the future.
-
If this timeline split was a real thing then…
! Would there be an old Steven at Endgame?
-
If this timeline split was a real thing then…
! Would there be an old Steven at Endgame?
Not quite sure exactly what you mean
! As Joe Russo explained, the time travel can't change the past and always creates new timelines. He directly confirms that Steve lived in an entirely different timeline with Peggy before returning to his original timeline as an old man.
-

! I think Carol's stand against Thanos was a highlight, even if it was a short skirmish. Also Cap vs Cap was pretty great. It was definitely lighter on fights, but I thought what was there mostly worked. I wouldn't call it a downgrade from the first Avengers, but it definitely didn't reach the heights of Infinity Wars, though narratively, it wasn't an issue.
