I am going to take Oda at face value on his hint about the Wano connection. With these types of questions, he's usually sincere. When someone asked about the three sake cups at Ace's grave, Oda hinted that it would be relevant in the future (but left it up "to the reader's imagination for the moment").
When he goes out of his way to say that the descendant of someone that came from Wano to the East Blue will be addressed later, albeit as a minor plot point, I have no reason to think Oda is lying there.
Similarly, I don't think he's being tonge-in-cheek when he refers to "somebody that everyone is familiar with". I take it as a clear hint, no misdirection. He could've just said that there was a ship from Wano that took the carpenter to East Blue and that it might play into the story later. He did not need to give this additional bit of information, but he did.
And considering that Oda is very well aware that the children who read One Piece today are NOT necessarily familiar with either Kuina or Koshiro - characters that appeared over two decades ago - this information can only point towards one character.
