Still find it funny people thought Drake was a Calamity.
Chapter 912: Amigasa Village
-
-
We've now seen two of the three Kitetsu swords. Nidai Kitetsu (with Luffy) is supposedly of a higher grade than the Sandai Kitetsu (with Zoro). All that's left is Shodai Kitetsu, which is said to be of a grade that's on par with Mihawk's sword. I wonder if it's also on Wano.
-
I've been thinking a bit about this arc's exposition-heavy unfolding of Wano so far, when I came to realize that the reason it seems weird is that there's no secret to its misery. Both Dressrosa and Whole Cake operated under the facade of being prosperous nations where everyone lived well, only for their dark underbellies to unfold the longer the Straw Hats stayed there. But Kaido isn't about that. He and the shogun rule by force alone and so do whatever they want. The exposition that Tama and Hitetsu have given aren't so much groundbreaking revelations as they are just statements about their everyday lives; living in a polluted wasteland and being vulnerable to any of Kaido's goons that cross your path is as much a part of Wano's upfront culture as passionate dancing is to Dressrosa and racial equality is to Whole Cake.
I'm not saying that this means the execution of these chapter have been perfect, but it is something to think about with regards to how Wano unfolds. Right now, with all the ugly stuff already up front, it seems like we're in for quite an apocalyptic action romp.

.if you happen to notice the guard of each kitetsu, they are the same with the sword one of the gorosei
So i believe that is the one called shodai kitetsu

My biggest thing is how quickly things unfold. In two chapters we got crazy intro, forced separation, princess of the arc, connection to old promise, meeting with lost allies and meeting with the supernova of the arc. That's a looooot of things that would normally be spaced out.

Reminds me when Oda said at Jump Festa 2018, "The current arc is reaching its climax as Luffy and his team battle against one of the Four Emperors. But I have tons of ideas, so I'm only using the super-awesome ones. Actually, only the amazing ones are left. So keep reading the series without worrying about anything. It'll just keep getting better and better!"
-
This fast pacing may work for a big arc such as Wano, it may not be the best but it will allow Oda more freedom to showcase as many things as possible in a period of 2 years or more. Maybe it is just the beginning of the arc that has this faster pacing. Either way I'm fine with it as long as nothing major is skipped.
-
It's too early to make any conclusion regarding the pace.
Let me remind you that the first time they set the anchor in Tottoland they ended up on the one island in the one town eating the one café owned by Sanji's wife. One chapter late they reach the center of Tottoland : Whole Cake Island.
Then people were reminded of the actual pace as soon as we entered the seducing woods. -
Looking at samurai luffy and samurai zoro together, luffy looks like a parody of Zoro. And usopp & luffy duo > zoro & luffy duo.
-
Instead of awakening, Oda wants to make Luffy a swordsman :))) joke
I hope Zorro gets one of his final swords in this arc, and a good one. Also, giving all the poison and everything, Chopper should have a big role in this arc. He is always collecting samples and such but Oda never showed his real medical skills by now. We all want to see him in real medical action, not just meding some bruises… something like how Law treated Luffy after the war.
-
This page is at the beginning of volume 17. I find it funny to compare it with this chapter color page
!
-
I really liked this chapter because it brought back for some brief instants the feeling of genuine comradery and friendship between the strawhats that felt missing since the timeskip. We also had not-cardboard-cutout-stoic Zoro back for a couple pannels, more of that please.
Now i hope that Luffy using a sword is just played for laughs.
-
Did everybody forgot that Luffy is bad at using a sword?
-
There are only two ways, follow the strong or hide.
Kidd is already imprisoned, apoo and basil are under kaido. I can see killer probably as the one hiding, and one of the eventual first allies. It don't know if basil instantly would become an ally, let's see. In my opinion he's going to stay neutral for the moment and decide when the time is right based on his forecast.
There is also the chance that this meeting get interrupted by someone else …

As a huge fan of Samurai, Luffy with a katana is AWESOME. My Kenshin memories flooding back! Love this chapter!

It would be very realistic if Oda choses to eliminate Kid in this arc to show just how tough are the Yonko. Luffy and Bege making it out of BM territory was just pure luck and non engagment by the BM pirates( ex Smoothie).
After all the hype and elevation of Yonko it would seem stupid if every time the “supernovas” manage to humiliate, defeat and escape alive.

Kidd has already been humiliated, we don't know anything about him and he's going to die is he? Not happening, he's going to get his own little personal win this arc. None of the supernova will die.
-
This chapters highlights my original opinion why this is going to be a good arc, Wano FEELS massive. I hope Oda doesn't sideline the SHs for Hawkins, Drake and Kidd. What works well is always the relationships and dynamics of SHs members interacting w/ eachother in the context of the arc.

They lost Pedro and we don’t know what happened with Pekoms and the fishmen… I think WC already showed pretty well how dangerous yonkou are.
-
The only supernovas Luffy has interacted with so far in the New World (aside from Zoro, because that's a given) are Law and Bege, and it looks like Hawkins is up next. Wonder if he'll be the first one Luffy fights against.
-
Yeah itbseems Oda has a plan for each of the supernovas so i don’t see any of them dying. Especially Kidd given how he was introduced.
Bege was the revelation of mum’s arc so Oda has put the bar high for the next ones. -
Where did luffy and zoro meet Hawkins pre ts? I don't remember them talking in SA.
-
Honestly, Luffy shouldn't have to move a finger and let his boy Zoro handle this on his own. The wannabe-WSS has to fight actual strong swordsmans right ? And not just someone else's underling (even though, Hawkins is kinda Kaido's underling for the moment)
-
@uniaka:

They "saw" him when they heard about their alliance in the newspaper right before Dreessrosa.
-

Hawkins was like within 50 feet of Zoro when he saw him almost attack a Celestial Dragon, but that was about the extent of it:
-
we still dont know why that girle didnt eat her own chin-balls, or feed them to luffy instead of starve.

Perhaps it will be explained more later, as it wasn't even named.

-
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Zoro is going to get new swords in this arc too. I'm pretty sure he won't give away Kuina's sword and Shusui, unless he gave it to the villagers that asked him for it back out of respect for Ryuma or something. Some say he earned it from Ryuma's fight legitimately though, so I don't know. At the very least, I can see Zoro swapping out Sandai Kitetsu for the higher grade Nidai Kitetsu Luffy is holding.
-
And Oda did not forget the sword ranking :-) The trivia was much needed
Just for the pleasure it would have been really fun.

have you noticed that there is no sign on luffys belly of the heavy wound katakuri caused? he got a spear throu but it's like nothing happened now

If Luffy took a scar from everything that realistically would leave one, literally all his skin would be scar tissue

The state Kidd is in alone shows how brutal Kaido is. No need to make him die.

yeah but we are talking of the greatest wound we have seen in the manga probably
-
With Chopper's medicine and Sanji's food it's safe to assume that we will not hear of this wound again.
-

I dunno, crocohook looked pretty bad when it happened. Pretty sure Lucci delivered a couple of through and through punctures as well. Kata trimming Luffy's lovehandles a tad is basically par for the course.
-
Wounds happen for a specific reason in mangas. We shouldn't expect Smoker to have wounds all over his body after his "fight" against Doflamingo

The stitches on his face tho… absurdly looking
Luffy was definitely expecting something cool for Kid, Apoo and Hawkins based on his reaction to their Alliance's news…

i'm still waiting for Chopper to show some top notch medical skills in this arc. Oda only showed him using bandages and stuff, nothing compared to what Law did back at Marineford. I really hope for some mid battle intervention from him that would place Chopper as a top doctor among all the "healing" characters.
Same with Sanji's food. Until now he don't know if he used any of the receipts he learned to feed the Sh's or Luffy alone.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The state Kidd is in alone shows how brutal Kaido is. No need to make him die.
I'm not saying that Kid specifically should die, just that if again all the ones going against a Yonkou escape unscathed it is really bllsht. Back im Totland, all of them managed to escape with little injuries ( except Luffy's stomach hole) and they were up against the feard BM pirates. You will say Pedro is dead ( we still don't know for sure) but it was his choice.
Anyway, we can expect Kaidou's forces to be more capable then BM pirates (i hope we won't have another Smoothie and Daifuku useless characters) and the whole uprising and battle to be more rough and dangerous. At least that is my opinion.

Have we read the same arc? You are saying that Pedro's death was his choice like he thought dying was fun so he just went and did it lol. If he didn't do that the entire crew would have been slaughtered on WCI. Let's not forget that the entire Germa and Jinbe's crew had to stay behind just to ensure that the SHs can escape out of BM's territory. Plus Oda was asked in an interview why does he keep omitting Jinbe from all the color pages on which he depicts all other SHs even though Jinbe already joined the crew and his answer was "it is because I don't want to spoil one of the surprises about Jinbe's situation since his last appearance". So guess what, something obviously happened to him (like he lost a limb maybe etc.) and I guess something probably happened to Germa too. To say after all this that the SHs escaped "unscathed" from BM is complete and utter bullshit.

The SH's did escaped "unscathed". I haven't read the specific interview so i don't know any extra info except what is in the manga. Yeah, if Pedro didn't sacrifice himself, then the SH's would've been done for. Same if the BM pirates weren't so clumsy, same if they executed Luffy and Nami from the start, same if BM would've caught up to them faster, same if many things didn't happen just at the right time. I'm not unsatisfied how the arc turned out, i really liked it, i just expect some rougher conclusion from the Wano arc in comparisson.
I'm keeping my opinion regarding the matter until Oda shows what happend to Germa, Sun Pirates & Pedro/Pekoms. No need to call it utter bullsht since what i said is true, but from a different point of view.
-
Isn't worthy remembering that they needed the assistance from Fishmen to escape? You know, during a SEA escape?
I just saying that when you have to deal with them in their element and seemingly to be winning with that advantage is somewhat impressive.
-

You can read it in the "Oda's interviews" thread, but it doesn't say any more about Jinbe's situation than I have already said here. Even without that interview info it's obvious that since Jinbe can't die in the same arc that he officially joined the SHs (even though the situation looked like it the last time we saw him) there will be some (major) consequences to letting his captain escape "unscathed". Saying generally that the SHs escaped unscathed from Totland can't be considered as anything but bullshit when a friend of theirs gave his life so that they can even have a chance of escaping in the first place and a member of the crew had to stay behind to face a situation from which he can't guarantee that will get out of alive. I could kinda understand that thinking if we had already seen the outcome of that, but declaring that so prematurely….
I'm not unsatisfied how the arc turned out, i really liked it, i just expect some rougher conclusion from the Wano arc in comparisson.
I think you will probably be disappointed by this arc then. Totland was from the start "enter with a small part of the crew, get Sanji and the Poneglyph(s) as fast as possible and escape". We (the readers) and the SHs have learned what it means to go against a Yonkou in this arc and that will certainly be a valuable experience in Wano for them. But even with that experience the main goal of Wano stayed the same -> "enter it with the entire crew and a massive army/allies and beat the shit out of Kaido and his crew plus the Shogun and his regime". In Totland they were in defensive mode (because they didn't go there to bring down BM) and they barely escaped with their lives, Wano on the other hand is the exact opposite - they are here on the offensive. Sure, the fights will be brutal, epic and amazing and nothing alike what we've seen in Totland, but I doubt there will be some long term consequences for the SHs in Wano (like for example somebody losing a limb or his life as that's what Totland was for).
-

Last reply to this so we won't spam the thread :D
I agree with you that it is prematurely to say that it was with low cost that they escaped from Totland, but it was an opinion on the facts that we know now.
And at first i didn't say that the SH's should loose body parts or anything, i just said that difference in power and experience between the supernovas and the Yonkou should be more visible in this arc -> thus probably a bit more casulaties/damage on the Samurai-SH's Alliance side.
I won't be disspointed by anything what Oda decides to write, i always enjoy every arc that is made. Peace out! :D

Loved this chapter simply because of the fact that I started to reread the manga that day and I stopped after their first meeting.
Good ol' classic One Piece, a time where the characters had crazy big feet lolHowever Goda is a genius. He managed to give us those reminiscing feelings when we started to read the manga so late into the story
while keeping the story fresh and progressing. -
So which sword will be dropped off for Nidai? Shuusui or Shidai?
Shuusui can't be dropped lol
-
-
Why the hell not lol?
Why would he? Zoro acquiring new swords should make him stronger, no point in having him stagnate by replacing Shusui with a sword of the same grade.
And no, I don't see him giving the sword back under any circumstances.
