Greg, just spitballing here, but what if the Pheasant is maybe like the new cremate or something?

Sorry mate, I refrain from commenting on crew member stuff. But anyone else feel free to discuss!
-
Just me, personally:
Luffy, the Monkey: Leader of the Pirates of the Alliance.
Inuarashi, the Dog: Leader of the Minks.
Someone Yet Revealed, the Pheasant: Leader of the Samurai. -
Somehow I would love if it were Nekomamushi instead of Inuarashi. But it is a shame that there isn't a cat on the story, or is it?

Do you think that Wano gets news from the outside, or are they completely isolationist and don't learn anything? It might help the Straw Hats in their portrayal to the Wano people if they're nobodies, as they can become heroes to the people.
-
(…)
While totally possible, I very much believe it has to to with VoAT and Momo's criznazy CoO and that he has actually met them through their voices like Roger knew how to carve those characters. So your opinion is that Roger knew how to write those characters without Oden? Because if Roger knew, Oden wouldn't have been necessary on Skypia, cause Roger just carved those signs into the Gold. So there as no Need for a mason from Wano.

I was horny when I was 5, just saying.
Yeah, but did you "let the world know of it"(until now)? ;)

I think they probably have one port or so that allows them to interact with others, as Ace learned how to make a Kasa in Wano, but otherwise, are firmly isolationist.

So your opinion is that Roger knew how to write those characters without Oden?
This is a case where it's not my opinion so much as it is a fact as far as we know. Rayleigh literally stated that Roger could do that as a result of hearing the Voice of All Things. Getting down to the nitty-gritty, we don't even know whether or not Oden knew those characters or not. We know his ancestors carved them, but we don't know if they spoke that language or were simply transcribing written messages.
So there as no Need for a mason from Wano.
That's a pretty big logic leap though. Oden didn't join Roger just so that he could draw some graffiti in the sky.

Hey Greg, thinking about the fact that Sai returned to Kano in the West Blue and came back for the Reverie seems kind of weird given the time that has seemed to pass since Dressrosa. I know it gets mucky since we don't know how much time has passed for the Sunny traveling to and back from Whole Cake. We know that the New World is bordered by the West and North Blue, I'd say it seems likely that the Happo Navy seems to have some way to safety cross the Calm Belt to the West Blue with relative safety. I'd also say it's safe to say that if this is the case, that Kano is probably close to the Calm Belt in West Blue.
Do you think this is the case? I know Oda has been vague on travel time in general, but it strikes me as odd to introduce a character that is now a fleet member, showing him traveling between the West Blue and New World with implied ease and speed, and no mention of how this is possible. I've been rattling my brain trying to figure out what/if Oda has planned with this and was wondering if you had any ideas. Oda could have easily placed Kano in the New World and as of now, it wouldn't change the story. So why introduce this group based in another sea that seems to be able to go back and forth and have them allied with the Strawhats?

Given the full moon stuff, I think they spent a heckuva long time at Zou.

Oh, hey, while I'm here, did you guys see the interview with Kishimoto where he talked about Oda from a few issues back?

If it's on this site, I haven't seen it.

Wasn't it said on Zou that Oden knew that language and that he couldn't teach it to Momo?
-
Greg can you explain the monkey dog pheasant theory again? I don't know much about Japanese folk tales/religion/Shintoism, what's the story about and why are you so sure Odas gonna have that team up, is he very fond of the story???
-

-
Don’t know if you been asked this Greg, but why you think Oda is seemingly planning to throw 2 Yonko’s into 1 arc?
Other than raising stakes more and maybe resolving plot points left off from WCI but I sort of doubt that kno big Oda takes his time to reveal things.
-
It seems like Kishimoto looks at Oda the way all the other Mangaka looked at Eiji in Bakuman.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Not laughing at you friend. Just a VERY astute observation.
Wasn't it said on Zou that Oden knew that language and that he couldn't teach it to Momo?
Yes, you're totally right! My bad I'd forgotten that Raizou mentioned that! I only remembered Kanjuro saying they didn't know the messages. However, I still maintain that Rayleigh is a reliable source of info and Oden didn't join just for some graffiti ;)

Then you're going to love one of my upcoming columns! It's the tale of Momotarou or 'Peach Boy'. Check it out on YT or Wikipedia.
Don’t know if you been asked this Greg, but why you think Oda is seemingly planning to throw 2 Yonko’s into 1 arc?
We're still not sure that he is yet. Or at least, we don't know the timing or form of it yet.
As for the why that seems fairly straightforward. Events need to start ramping up the action to a level that affects the entire world.
-
Yeah I doubt the strawhats show up and they're both there. If big mom is gonna show up you can bet your bottom dollar it will be midway through the arc as a huge spanner in the works. Or possibly even her functioning as a ticking clock in the arc where they'll be done for if they don't escape in time but I'd bet more on BB doing that if a yonko is gonna show up at the last minute.
-
Nah I don’t think Oda would bring up this huge possibility without it happening in some way.
Besides now Pudding and Katakuri can be brought back in the story, especially Pudding
Well more so Pudding being an ally with her knowing what Big Mom will do, Katakuri seems more neutral then an ally.
-
I just can't see big mom having nothing to do with elbaf and I cant see her hogging the attention for 3 arcs either. Therefore her role won't be as huge and since she's a yonko and that means her presence means just her being there is huge, I don't think she'll be there for long. Just my train of thoughts but she Has to be in Elbaf and Cant Takeover this arc.
-
If we're heading to Elbaf (and for reasons related to Sunny I'd like to believe that we are) then I find it hard for Mom's crew not be antagonistic there.
Then again, the idea of them chasing the Strawhats to…..ANOTHER island....I dunno, it just seems silly. Not impossible mind you, it's just a bit much. Which is why I'm really curious as to how he'll pull this off!
-
As long as Pudding comes back I’m good, but I can’t imagine Oda would bring the two meeting up and not having it happen.
I mean Big Mom can still play a role in Elbaf it’s just now not as clear as some thought.
-
Greg, do you think that Wano will consist of two different enemy factions or just one? I feel like the Wano Samurai will be their own army, and the Beast Pirates will as well be their own fight.
I am curious how this arc will go, because this seems like it's going to be a three way battle as opposed to the one on ones we've been seeing recently, IMO.
-
I've always seen it as a multi-island region so I definitely see multiple factions involved. Remember, we have a fricking huge elephant on the way here. I see a multi-island battle against Shogun and Kaido forces….and Mom?? Verdict's still out on that but either way, totally.
-
So Maxterdexter, it seems Greg share a little my opinion about Mum in Elbaf
-
Hey greg, you think moria could be involved in this arc?
since timeskip one piece have been like a mirror (arlong/fishman island, alabasta/dressrosa, skypeia/zou, water7/whole cake)
so if we say oda will go the thriller bark/wano way, looking back at thriller bark, the whole zoro/wano thing started, there was a kaido sized boss and it took everything and everyone they had to beat him and then shadow luffy finished the job.
and there's also moria hints being dropped everywhere (not dead, the photographer, etc..).
Or do you think oda is saving him for a impeldown/crocodile moment in the future?EDIT: forgot to mention the whole "kaido murdered my entire crew" part
-
EDIT: forgot to mention the whole "kaido murdered my entire crew" part
This alone would justify him becoming an ally; plus his (potential) zombie army could take down fodders/ be taken down to hype up someone without having to sacrifice actual people.
On the other hand there are a lot of characters involved already, so is it necessary? -
So Maxterdexter, it seems Greg share a little my opinion about Mum in Elbaf
I'm just placing a bet, that's all. Marco leaving the arc doesn't mean that Mom can fit in.
It all depends in how long the arc is in the end, as Big Mom has a 4 days of catch up to do. That is less time than it takes to dethrone evil kings, defeat secret agents, anihilate zombie armies, oust coup conspiracies, smush fishmen supremacist, and convince God that the only viable business plan left is to fly to the moon and not look back.

I'm not really sure there's a whole lot to go on about this Paradise-New World mirror thing. Fishman Island featured several themes that debuted in Arlong Park and villains that shared similar motivations, but its story was completely different. There is a good case for parallels between Alabasta and Dressrosa, but a lot of that was likely intentional given that explicit comparisons were made between Crocodile and Doflamingo's actions. Zou and Skypiea are completely different aside from sharing outlandish settings. WCI had traces of Water 7 in its story at first, but it also had elements and plotlines from Thriller Bark and pretty much became its own thing halfway through. So imo it's silly to predict the plot of upcoming arcs based on where they "align" with the pre-timeskip arcs. Characters will return and the themes revolving around them will often accompany them, and new characters might be impacted by old ones, but that's not the same thing as entire plotlines repeating.
-
It is obvious that this is a Foxy like arc.
-
It is obvious that this is a Foxy like arc.
I'm onboard with Luffy becoming Chonmage Luffy and beating Kaido in a sumo wrestling match.
-
By that point Usopp became the captain because Kaido won Luffy in round one, and when they won round 2, got Kaido in his place.
The final battle is Kaido for the strawhats, vs Luffy for the beast pirates.
-

I'm liking the idea of having Big Mom as a persistent enemy, much like Smoker. It adds to the future mystique of the Strawhats, the same way people talk about the Roger Pirates being rivals to the Whitebeard Pirates or the Golden Lion Pirates.
I believe she will have the same impact in Wano as Kuma had in Thriller Bark. She shows up near the end of the arc when no one is expecting and shakes things up, possibily meeting some of the Strawhats not present in Whole Cake but failing to meet Luffy himself. Or maybe a naval battle, where the crews face each other without trading the usual fisticuffs.
(for what is worth, could you kindly suggest/comment to the editors that naval battles are cool and that we haven't really seen one? just plant that idea like in Inception and the rest will work itself out ) -
It's obvious Foxy will be the "robin" of the New World and just hop on the ship and join.
-
So Greg, after hearing your comments about the special don from Mihawk and Cabaji in One piece podcast readthrough, I guess you must be happy with Wano ben :-).
Btw do you think the don on the cascade is a typo or there is a signication for it not being a ben ? -
This alone would justify him becoming an ally; plus his (potential) zombie army could take down fodders/ be taken down to hype up someone without having to sacrifice actual people.
On the other hand there are a lot of characters involved already, so is it necessary?he was needed for luffy to deal the finishing blow in thriller bark (shadow luffy) vs the giant boss (oz)
so maybe we'll get shadow luffy 2.0? because hell, I can't even think of any possible way for anyone involved to be able to beat kaido.
I think even Oda mentioned at some point that he still doesn't know how will he make luffy defeat kaido (if it was not just a rumor).@Kaido:

I'm not trying to predict arcs and I know they are different, a lot different, but the main motivation/base of each of the mirror arc is basically the same
arlong park/fishman island: racist fishman as first boss for luffy to defeat
alabasta/dressrosa: shibukai taking over a kingdom and the strawhats overthrowing him
Skypia/Zou: world that logically should never exist with it's own crazy culture is being razed to the ground by some insane individual
Water7-CP9/Whole cake island: a strawhat has left against his/her own will! we must get him back!
so I'm going from that and thinking about thriller bark being "A Foreign land inhabited by deadly people with a giant end boss that everyone must unite to defeat"Every arc is it's own unique thing but they do share a main structure that we can't ignore is what I'm getting at, and I'm sure it's intentional by Oda.
-
Here we are discussing the new fanbook Vivre Card at Shueisha:
-
he was needed for luffy to deal the finishing blow in thriller bark (shadow luffy) vs the giant boss (oz)
He did, which is a further reason of why he wouldn't do it again. This non-permanent buff was justified and well-thought, story-wise. Neither the straw hats nor the readers were expecting Oz to show up and to be as strong as he turned out to be. Nightmare was the unexpected, last hope power up (as Lola says it).
I can't see it being used again because it would lose that element of surprise and feel recycled.
Furthermore, an important factor is to consider, one which differentiates fighting Oz and fighting Kaido; Oz came out of nowhere, as I just mentioned; whereas there is an actual plan to defeat Kaido.
So, to recap, I can't see Nightmare Luffy happening because Kaido =/= Oz story-wise, and because it has already been used before.so maybe we'll get shadow luffy 2.0? because hell, I can't even think of any possible way for anyone involved to be able to beat kaido.
It must be difficult to think of a satisfying way to defeat him, but the resources really seem unlimited. Oda has a large panel of insanely strong characters he can use against Kaido. Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Franky and his "Emperor Killing" Thousand Sunny, Nami and Zeus, Law, Kidd (by extent: Killer), Inuarashi, Nekomamushi, Carrot, and even Big Mom! (add to this list, though it isn't certain, other SN such as Apoo, Hawkins and Drake; the WB pirates if they deal with Weevil in time, rebel samurai, and so forth).
Which leads to the interrogation; will Oda turn this into a team fight? I guess the villain has to be taken down by Luffy in the end. But all characters mentioned above could at least weaken the Emperor to the point of Luffy being able to beat him.
Or, Luffy will get him on his own, through newly acquired techniques (his progression in between arcs is insane. In a few arcs he went from struggling against Arlong to taking down two CP9 members in a day). Lucci seemed unbeatable back in W7, after all.So, if you really think about it, there are a lot of ways Kaido could go down - and that is only considering the info we have so far. Other factors may come in in the future.
I think even Oda mentioned at some point that he still doesn't know how will he make luffy defeat kaido (if it was not just a rumor).
If I remember correctly, user Sandman said this in the Oda's Interviews thread.

Greg is there any chance that devil fruits put a demon in your body and that to awaken a devil fruit one must conquer said devil? Like Naruto's nine tailed fox or Ichigo's Hollow self.
and do you think all the DF members of the straw hats will awaken there fruit?

Probably not as Oda would've made some hints or at least some basis for that theory. It's a simple townfolk story.
-
Nevertheless, there has to be some sort of legend/mythic background which will be explained "scientifically" (at least in One Piece terms) for the reader. I cannot imagine Oda missing out on giving at least some sort of explanation to the Devil Fruit. Remember the comment he made about Vegapunk and Devil Fruit in the SBS?
(A good question btw: When will Oda , you know, actually introduce Vegapunk? He was mentioned by Fujitora/Ryokugyu, so Reverie may be the perfect place. But likely only after Wano. )
As almost all mysteries in One Piece, as soon as we get the "Missing 100 years" flashback, we will be all the wiser.
-
When I first was reading through One Piece, I wanted an answer to the Devil Fruits and how they came to be. But honestly, now I kind of like them just being a mystery, and something that is just a part of this crazy fantastical world of One Piece.
If Oda does explain them, I wouldn't be opposed to it. But the mystery is nice as well.
-

Pretty sure the Strawhats are gonna travel to the island VP is doing his thing right now, the children of PH are there, Smoker and Tashigi as well, and it´s an opportunity to deal with the build-up of Kuma.

Greg, what do you think about the possibilities of a group based/inspired on the yakuza showing up?
-
Greg, what do you think about the possibilities of a group based/inspired on the yakuza showing up?
Oda hasn't had a group that has all the features, but he's taken cues from therm here and there. Johnny/Yosaku and the Franky Family calling Zoro/Franky "Aniki", Sakazuki's irezumi tattoo, Foxy's crew calling him "Oyabun" the Grand Fleet drinking the sake cups before Luffy, etc.

Oda needs to calm down! Are you talking about the "Otama being sent to red district" panel. Because I don't think there is any relation at all with Mother Carmel
