Don't know if this was already mentioned, but my biggest take away from this chapter (aside from the obvious) is that the Reverie would be a seven day conference. I'm hoping that the current arc covers the first day, then we get Wano, and then we get Reverie part 2 which covers the final day, where everyone can react to the fallout from Wano.
Chapter 906: The Holy Land Mary Geoise

@Gecko:
The term ‘Caucasian’ comes from white slavery, and eventually became synonymous with what is now known as white people. Circassian slaves in particular were renowned for their beauty after the Russian genocidal conquest of their homeland. So gendered racism leading to fetishazation of “exotic” women is an old one. The men are feared, the women renowned for their beauty. It’s racism intertwined with the male gaze.
As the people of my generation love to say: THIS. Racism can have nuance to it.
-
Wapol and Kinderella are so terrible. Why do I love them and want more of them.
-
@.access:
I know, I avoided using fetishism in my post because people use to be overly sensitive when you start sounding like what they call SJW. But the thing is while I can understand fetishization explaining the public in general being in love with this exotic mermaid princess beauty while seeing the merfolk as sub-humans, the kings wanting her to marry with one of their sons seems to fall completely out of that category. When you fetishize someone you lust for them and you may even want to use them sexually, maybe as a concubine, but official-legal-royal-meet-your-new-princess-and-future-queen marriage?
For all we know, these marriages could, in effect, be tantamount to slavery. Maybe they’ve got several wives, even.
-
Enjoyed this chapter.
If the Nami clones banded together they would destroy the world.
-
She might get angry when she hears how many other girls like Luffy
I want that BAD. I can’t believe I used to not like Hancock.
-
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this chapter, but not much happened that warrants discussion unfortunately. The cut to Doffy was weird, but understandable. The giant strawhat is intriguing; since we know that Luffy isn't wearing the exact same hat (since it's still in Mary Jane), it dodges most of the Chosen One trope. And as previously pointed out, he wasn't born chosen. So it's cool.
If the Reverie is only 7 days, and we get a chapter covering each day (maybe one or two days with two chapters), then yeah, we could totally be out of this arc in 10 chapters…
@RJ:
IF luffy was destined to do literally everything he does, then what was all that struggle for? He could literally lie down and make his way out of any situation because "muh destiny."
!
Sorry, you walked right in to that one. It was the first thing I thought about when I read your post X-DMy guess is it's Law. Maybe the hat is tied to the secret of the Will of D
I would be inclined to agree, but if it were Law we would've been shown the poster (since we already know who that character is). It being hidden tells me it's someone we haven't met yet.
I assume he can feel the pain of the slaves and nobles victory.
HA! Pour one out for Mangapanda sniff
My theory is that the strawhats are woven in a way to store the wearers haki as it progresses over time and is passed on from person to person provided they share the same will. The new one that's just been introduced could be imbued with the intention of the world government's founders, whose descendants are now realizing from Luffy's massive bounty raise that Roger had the same idea though a different cause. Perhaps it's being kept in a cold place to keep the haki locked in for the next person worthy of wearing it
It's called One for All, and that other manga about people with wild and wacky powers is already doing that one. Straw for All does have a ring to it though…

Overall I enjoyed this chapter. I for one never really cared for any of the princesses in this series so seeing them was eh for me. Though with the Luffy fan club ever growing, makes me wonder how the reverie will end. Which countries will leave and ban under Luffy? Will they have any other royals join or not?
I liked the panel with the slaves under ground moving the tiles. It was a nice touch to really drive home how shitty the CD are. Though I think Fukaboshi's premonition was hinting that bringing Shirahoshi will cause its own problems (Charloss has his eye set on here, offending those other princes, and who knows what else will happen). Someone mentioned that it would be weird for the other royals to accept the merfolk so easily and whatnot. I personally don't find it as weird since I always imagined that status was the most important thing and being invited to Reverie proved you had that. Though I am of the opinion that there is some form of fetishization from some individuals and probably curiosity from others.
Didn't care much to see some of the other characters and the little trivia bits, but I'm ok with it. Curious to see how the stage will be set up and how the Revolutionaries will behave with those aligned with Luffy vs others. But for me the highlight was Doffy. I was so damn happy to see him again. I have been wondering about the treasure for sometime and I really hope that he will get to play a role further on instead of reveal some vague info then be killed off.
The hat reveal… I don't know how I feel about it. Curious about the figure and the other bounty. I suspect it has something to do with the Will of D but I will wait for more info, though the idea of someone else destroying Fishman island while looking like Luffy is an interesting idea.
-
Well, how about that unknown guy at the end being the assassin and he's holding Doffy's poster wanted besides Luffy :ninja:
I don't know about an assassin, it might just be Doflamingo's paranoid ramblings. But if someone has to remove him permanently, I'd expect CP0/Aegis to play that part since they're tied to the Celestial Dragons.
With the tall crown and mantle I'd rather expect that mysterious figure to be a person of authority among the CDs.
Altogether a good chapter to read. Not fantastic, but the holy land is nice to look at and it's pleasant seeing familiar characters meet (again) and tie new bonds.
The straw hat at the end…leaves me puzzled. We know too little about it at the moment, but it could indeed head the story in an entirely crappy direction.
-
When the prejudice against the Fishmen is explained by Robin in chapter 500 she says that this was abolished in most of the world since the World Government made an agreement with them remaining only in islands more "backward" like Sabaody.
I got my answer! Gotta read that chapter once I'm home. Thanks.
-
Don't know if this was already mentioned, but my biggest take away from this chapter (aside from the obvious) is that the Reverie would be a seven day conference. I'm hoping that the current arc covers the first day, then we get Wano, and then we get Reverie part 2 which covers the final day, where everyone can react to the fallout from Wano.
But according to editor Naito Reverie will only comprise of 10 chapters.
One thing i am pleasantly surprise is how most of royalties are willing to accept Fishmen and eager to converse with them.I expected more hostility and segregation.
-
Really loved all the character interactions throughout the chapter. I never expected the national treasure to be a straw hat.
-
Some more world building, loving all the callbacks in this arc so far.
I didn't really mind the info panels on Vivi/Wapol etc it's pretty likely that more casual fans haven't read the entire series
Hoping for a situation where Sabo whacks Charloss and references his fraternity with the only other person to have ever struck him
-
Wapol calling Vivi a Hippo was pure gold.
-
I saw Kureha's shirt of 100 B in reference to Chopper's bounty, but I did NOT notice the hat/helmet on the Lapahn has antlers!
Nice catch
I wonder if Madam Sherly that prophesied the destruction of Fishman Island actually saw someone who wore that hat and mistook him for Luffy. After all, we only see his shadow…
My guess is the one who is going to destroy Fishmand Island is Shirahoshi and the hat is for her to use in that moment. The apparent paradox would be why she would destroy her own island…. There's that theory that to destroy all the axis that goes from Marijeois to Fishmand Island is to destroy all the ruling order of One Piece world, and that to do that the ancient weapons are all required.
Character drawings. Rebecca had some derpy misaligned eyes on the page with all the girls, for example.
About not good drawings, Vivi's ear called my attention in the previous page to the one with the three princesses you quoted.
I am way more intrigued by that man then by the man than by the hat. I'm guessing his second poster is from Shanks back when he had the strawhat.
It could be also Roger's old poster
Funny my first reaction was that this shadowy figure is a woman, not a man. We will see…..LUFFY's MOTHER CONFIRMED !!!
Yeap, I also have the impression it is a woman…. The idea about Luffy's mom is interesting but it sounds a bit weird up to the moment... We are in Oda's hands
Who would tell straw hats are a mistery in this story? Noboy up to today
-
Or maybe we can speculate about how Sabo will save all the slaves and become a modern Fisher Tiger ?
Since we are still one day from the Reverie, I am hoping it will only start at (the end of) chapter 908 and 907 will be the night before, showing Sabo sneaking around Mary Geoise and contacting the other revolutionaries there.
And as it is revealed in this chapter, Sabo's group really got from Kamabakka to the Red Port in less than one day which is really weird (no way Momoiro is that close to the New Marineford/G-1 or it would be very stupid of Dragon to make it the RA new HQ), but it shows there is still time for Betty and Koala to get there. Actually, now we know the Reverie will last for 7 days, even if they couldn't make it there before it started there will be plenty of time to do it before it ends.
The fact the Reverie takes that long is interesting as well. If it will not be done in one sit, it means the characters will have many intervals to interact and discuss what was decided there. I will be interesting seeing the Ryugu family having a chance to regroup with Luffy friends after their requests are denied (assuming they will be).
-
It could be also Roger's old poster
I would hope 2 poster means the most recent people with the hat AKA the 2 that are alive not the old poster of the the dead person from 2 decades ago. But Oda loves his parallels so who knows.
-
I liked the trivia panels. They reminded me of one of my favorite jokes! Usopp's swollen face after being hit by Vivi in Drum!
-
This Statue reminded me of the swordsmen Gorosie for some reason. Also Dragon's first appearance. -
'Pangea' for the Marijeoa's main castle is kind of a reference to a today gone land order.
-
Hmmm didn't really like the chapter I'm sure I am alone in that sentiment. So much stuff seems like overkill or perhaps me nitpicking. Why make the bubbles or gandolera's drop the visitors so far away and then make them walk a mile of stairs? Once they get to the top then that have another mile to walk to get to the castle? If Shirahous could possibly say something to offend the other individuals why bring her or not give her a heads up. What is the purpose of the slaves moving the ground, you mean in such a technological time frame nobody invented an electronic device to do that. Obviously, it was only to highlight how cruel the conditions are but I feel it could of been done another way. If the Celestial Dragons are on the premises why have mer-people come to Mary Geoise, to easy to get kidnapped. Also the last page was disappointing in my eyes, why is the person looking at the large hat, obviously nobody is under it unless we have an AntMan situation here. I get it was a cliffhanger but it doesn't make sense, it's like someone walking into my house and staring at my empty shoes as if I am going to appear inside them. I really enjoyed last weeks chapter but this one just seems like checking a box more in my eyes.
Yup. You're nitpicking. The stairs complaint is particularly ridiculous.
Bringing Shirahoshi was a last minute decision done to earn the trust of the other participants (what with everyone bringing their sons and daughters), as explained by Neptune.
And the travellator is probably a decades old mechanism.

Complaining can in rare cases be healthy but I gotta object to this one.
I'm finding it very difficult to reason that the mysterious figure would NOT stare at the Straw Hat. What else is he gonna stare at in the room, the pretty frost-permeated walls? Your eyes are naturally drawn to the hat lol. Also, if you're about to do something to an object or be involved with it soon… 99% of the time you're going to look at it. Also, to be truly technical, we don't see their eyes, he could have inverted cross-eyes and be looking to the left and right.
-
Wapol and Kinderella are so terrible. Why do I love them and want more of them.
I agree. They are the stereotypical arrogant but inept villainous type but I love them.
I'm having to laugh because I recently saw "Miss Universe" profile on Wikia, someone had said she was likely a positive person since she was always smiling. XD Nope! She is as foul (or nearly so) as her husband and she's always laughing. For all we know, these marriages could, in effect, be tantamount to slavery. Maybe they’ve got several wives, even.
Well, we know that the CDs do have multiple marriages and many of those are slavery. As shown by Charloss when he forcibly took Marie to be another wife the first time we saw Saobody. While WG outlaws slavery its alive on Saobody due to its location near Red Line and the CDs. We saw a clip back then about how a marine corrected himself from saying slavery to 'secure employment'.
So who knows, maybe other kingdoms may use 'secure employment' and 'marriage' as covers for slavery.@.access:

I had to reread the chapter too, to remember what it was about and what it said.
Explaination is on pg 10 but is intro-ed at pg 9. Here's a link = ch 500Or you can look here=

This reminds me… back then when this chapter first came out, I wondered how Hatchan could hide his features by simply hiding the extra arms, I mean his mouth is very unique. But 400 chapters later, we've seen other variations of human looking people; Long Arms, Long Legs, Snakenecks, even a Three-eyed tribe. And the Saobody was said to e specific against mermaid/fishmen. Sure the other races would still have to worry about slavers, but the hate and discrimination seemed focused more on mermaid & fishmen. So if Hatch just looked like a different race that's not fishman, he'd be able to walk around easier.

Have you checked that this statue has the same sword that one of the Gorosei? Maybe it's one of the legendary swords and it was passed to the new WG generation (or maybe those old fags are inmortals). Maybe those same members of the Gorosei were warriors that protected the Celestial Dragon at the time or they were also Celestial Dragons before becoming the WG.

Those might also be the twenty kings that fought against the Ancient Kingdom.
I vaguely remember a Void Century flashback with robed swordsmen figures, although I might be confusing with the original Warlord depiction.

So why do they even need 7 days? JUst so luffy has time to beat kaidou and them hear the news? The first chapters only cover the first day.
That is if luffy will dressrosa wano, as in have 1 day take 2-3 years. Because I really think oda would be forcing it with luffy beating 2 yonkous in his first month in the new world. He may not even need 2 months to become pirate king.

I think it would extremely clunky to start the Reverie, put it in a halt, go for Wano for 3+ years in real life and then go back to the Reverie. No amount of good writting would make that work.
The Reverie taking that long is probably so it can end just as Luffy gets to Wano so we can smoothly go from one to the other. It took them 7 days to get to Totto Land from Zou, it's reasonable to think it would also take a few days to reach Wano (seeing how Wano and TL are the center of two Yonkou territories, we can expect them to not be just right next to each other).
-
I would be surprised if Wano wraps up within this in-universe week, namely because I'd expect the Grand Fleet to come and help fight Kaido and two of their representatives are currently at Reverie.
-
Talking about strange things. Am I seeing it right that there are frozen bodies on the wall next to the strawhat
-
So if the Reverie is the G20 summit
And Marejois (and no im NOT going to respell something which is probably just a Katakana compromise) is Hamburg Germany
Does that make the revolutionary army The Black Bloc??? Hide your cars kids!!!!! -
Marejois is Israel.
-
Talking about strange things. Am I seeing it right that there are frozen bodies on the wall next to the strawhat
Errrrrrr…No ? Maybe it's the frost patterns playing tricks on your eye ?
-
So… Someone pointed out on Reddit that the wall Enel looks at in chapter 470 depicts a ship which may resemble an upside-down strawhat.
-
This post is deleted!
-
Could be something, could be nothing. Since any boat upside-down looks like a hat, it's more about the little robots all wearing straw hats?
-
Hey look, it's the World Nami convention.
we've already got Indigo Nami, Pigtail Nami and Very Big Nami!Talking about very big things, the Super Strawhat is the dumbest thing ever. No really, i thought that the bottom of the barrel on that was reached when it was revelaed thet "it was actually roger's hat all along!", but i guess i was wrong.
Couldn't it be just a very mundane object of headwear that only had affective value to luffy and him alone? I guess we really can't have a single Shonen story that starts being about the determined underdog and doesn't end with him actually being the Chosen One, part of the Profecy, as the Designated Heir, and every single thing about him being Special in some regard. -
even if that's the case they are not even in the same room at that moment
You are splitting hairs, give it a rest.

It's just a symbol of inherited will.

I think it's a circle with an opening.
-
citation needed.
I don't remember any part where is said or shown she uses haki.
is that the official translation? in the ones I read it was always posed as a question, not as an affirmative…as in, luffy thinks is observation but we have no confirmation, and in fact the prisoners answer to him like they don't know what he is talking about.
but that's the thing, in the translations I read he doesn't say 'must be'.. he just asks 'she uses observation haki?' and the prisoners answer with 'haki?' like his guess is wrong and/or they don:t know what he is talking about.
even if that's the case they are not even in the same room at that moment

It would probably feel more that way if the hat hadn't originally been Shanks', or if Luffy had received it through random chance. But his acquisition of the hat was a statement from Shanks that he had the willpower and capability to become great and shake the world like Roger did.
-
So odds of a giant strawhat being the One Piece?
-
There's nothing special about Luffy's hat besides it belonging to Roger at one point.
It's just a symbol of inherited will.
Yeah, just that.
Oh, and that there is a giant replica of it at the center of the center of the world. It's definetly not being built up to be anything special at all.And ALL the pirates of this era are supposed to have inherited Roger's will.
But just one sports his hat. -
So odds of a giant strawhat being the One Piece?
Why would the One Piece be identical to another treasure?
-
@Kaido:
Why would the One Piece be identical to another treasure?
For all we know that treasure is the One Piece, and the World Government retrieved it from Raftel unbenownst to anyone in the last 20 years. Now that would be a big twist to set the end-game into motion and make the focus of the end-game Mariejois
-
And ALL the pirates of this era are supposed to have inherited Roger's will.
But just one sports his hat.Inhiriting Roger's will is not just doing piracy and going out to look for the One Piece. It's about a specific mindset towards life and probably fulfilling the will of the D.
-
What if the person at the end is someone from the revolutionary army… and this is how they intend to declare war?
-
So… Someone pointed out on Reddit that the wall Enel looks at in chapter 470 depicts a ship which may resemble an upside-down strawhat.
This also looks like a hat to me hahaha everything looks like a hat now.
-
Still trying to figure out how a hat made of straws is special. Can't just anyone make one? Unless they used some magical straw for these hats. And what is up farming and farmers in comics.
-
Guys what if the world is actually two straw hat planets fused together, with the Red Line being the hats' rims?
