@Greg:
Every Sunday I pray to the gods of anime that they do OP Kai (and they will) in a timely fashion.
What makes you think they will?
Because, as far as my knowledge goes, Dragon Ball Kai was a major failure in Japan, and got replaced by Toriko after being cancelled because of bad merchandise sales.
The only reason Toei bothered to make a Kai version of the Buu arc was because of relative success in the US, but you can still notice a dip in the quality of the cutting because Toei couldn't afford hiring a third party to do the editing.
Actually, Dragon Ball Kai only returned to FujiTV after Toriko bombed massively and wasn't worth more money to be put into it, and Toei had the footage of DBKai ready.
If they ever try to tackle the idea of a One Piece "Kai" they'll have to consider a whooping 12-14 years of serialization, which is pretty far fetched if you ask me, especially with the initial cancellation of DBKai just after 2 years.
And even if they settle with adapting the post timeskip stuff, despite the one chapter per episode ratio becoming the norm in Enies Lobby, you're still looking at 6-7 years.
I loved watching OP with my dad but as it stands it's unwatchable.
At what point do you think the tv anime fell in quality? because pacing issues started since the Skypiea arc, and that means you think the One Piece TV anime stopped being watchable after Alabasta.
Did you perhaps mean the staff's handling of extended material got worse with time? If so, then allow me to disagree with you. Whole Cake Island is completely better adapted compared to, let's say, Marineford.
Also, don't you think it's a bit hypocritical to tell people to check the anime out in your official columns (you literally said that in your latest Super OP), when you actually think the anime is unwatchable?
Please don't take it as me picking a fight you, I'm genuinely interested to know your stance on the show in detail, specially when you point towards some valid good aspects of episodes in your articles.
@Hisoga:
Damn it.. DB/DBZ is still far bigger than OP..:getlost:
I think these numbers are a bit inflated due to the revival of Dragon Ball as a franchise.
Right now, the lisences that are being bought are not limited to Dragon Ball Super, but DB as a whole, and the goods that are being made are completely new because DB used to be practically dead few years ago.
Now for example, a company that wants to print Goku's face on some chips will need to buy the lisence, as for Luffy they'll only need to renew the lisence.
And that works for the customer too, a kid would want to buy a school bag with Goku's face on it because he already owns a one with Luffy's face.
I'm not saying Dragon Ball will suddenly sell badly, but these numbers are not a clear indicative of how the sales will look like when everything stabilizes, which might be in a few years from now.
On the other hand, One Piece is currently suffering from franchise fatigue, the sales are going relatively downwards, and it in all honesty needs something big for its popularity to pick up again. Wano or the new Live-action show might fill that purpose but we can never be sure.
@theackwardstation:
Anyway, I really don't understand how this soundtrack can be one of the weakest aspect of an anime that is bad animated,
It is actually very well done, I recommend you to check it out.
poorly drawn,
One Piece is pretty consistently well drawn when compared to other long running anime.
Gintama, another popular (semi-)long running anime, has never been as well animated as One Piece outside of a few selected episodes.
But even when compared to seasonal anime, One Piece looks better than half of them.
with weird scenic timing and terrible pacing,
I won't argue on that although I hugely disagree
and full of visual/narrative elements that work better in the manga format than in the anime format (since they don't bother to adapt the scenes, just copy and paste).
Lol, no
There are plenty of uninspired anime, but One Piece isn't one of them.
Hunter × Hunter 2011 for example is very bland when compared to the One Piece TV anime.
