It's not exactly a red X, but do you approve of the new look, Robby?
So Jinbe isn't being included in the colorspreads still. Does that mean he's still not in the crew officially or do we have to resort to volume character page.
Apparently there is something Oda takes as signaling an official joining and that's still missing, so yeah, Wano.
I can't see what it is, though, with both the captain and Jinbe acknowledging him currently as a SH it makes zero sense he is not officially one (I mean, it's those two take on the matter that should be important. Not the rest of the crew, or the WG), but at least those hoping for a combo join of Jinbe and Carrot (or whoever) should take this optimistically.
She's ridiculously fast in sulong mode, but she probably isn't much stronger than Sanji.
Do you…do you seriously think she's Sanji level in Sulong form? :/
Welcome to the crew, Zeus!
Since Zeus looks like cotton candy, I imagine the new gag in the crew is that chopper will try to eat him all the time.

I suppose Kaidou has to rewrite his wiki article :-)

Bye, Carrot.

Sanji got manhandled by Daifuku during the wedding, in sulong mode she danced circles around him. Maybe she isn't stronger in the sense of how much weight she can move with her body, but they're probably equal in terms of how likely they are to beat any given opponent.

Oda could not make more official he didn't consider him a full strawhat member yet
Yeah, we can call bullshit but it is what it is.
Oda could not make more official he didn't consider him a full strawhat member yet
He could also not make it more official that Luffy considers Jinbe part of his crew.
@Kaido:

That's about as official as saying "you're hired, you start on Monday". The position is secured, but it still doesn't really count since he's not on the team yet.

You mean when sanji tried to fend him off and not engage him in a 1 on 1 because his family was about to die?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Nobody has mentioned it here yet but that sanji and carrot interaction had me thinking two things.
1. Pedro might actually be dead. A lot of people were thinking that pedro couldn't die because sanji would blame himself and while he certainly seemed down on it carrot managed to snap him out of that funk by telling him it's alright. Oda has left things on a feel good enough note that he wouldn't need to bring him back. Of course he can always change his mind but they've come to enough of a resolution here that it's not needed like how Galley La and the others couldn't die in enies lobby. Pell kind of got a moment like that but he was brought back in the same chapter as was pagaya. A character reminisced about them and they showed up later that chapter.
2. We went the whole arc without any major sanji and carrot interaction and that was such a nice character moment for the both of them. While on it's own it doesn't mean a ton it's nice to see them interact and it's nice if we have one woman who sanji can talk to on the crew without freaking out ( ultra-serious moments excluded )
I read this as Nami becomes a Laker.
Now I'm imagining Nami joining the only Basketball team she would ever join.
She looks like she could make for a decent coach.
I'm not going to lie when I say that I want a soccer-themed Straw Hats vs. Blackbeard Pirates color spread during the Final War.
@Kaido:
He could also not make it more official that Luffy considers Jinbe part of his crew.
So your opinion matter much than the manga author one ? At least remove the word official from your phrase. Also if a someone would join inbetween he would be the 9th so that part is also false.
Until I see that big blue bastard on a coverpage and/or doing the nose chopsticks thing with Luffy, Chopper and Usopp, he's not a straw hat yet.
It IS worth noting that colors spreads are done several weeks ahead of chapters (because the color takes longer to print) so Oda might not have been 100% sure where this would fall… but I have to err on the side of "purposely excluding Jinbe for now." since he had to have had a pretty decent idea where the story would be even a month of chapters ago. Sigh.
It's not exactly a red X, but do you approve of the new look, Robby?

He wanted a downer ending for this arc. A joining party (and with half the crew missing) would have been weird amidst everything else. And so he wants us to actually believe Jimbei might die or something, I guess.
I assume also Jinbe has some former business in Wano that will come up that he'd personally be able to sort out in 2 seconds, but without him will take a bit of learning for the crew to figure out.

Yall are making me nostalgic for the old paper mario games…... not these new partner less crap they've been putting out lately
@Mr.:
You.. can't be serious..
What is there not to be serious about? Every time he has had a chance to show off his power he was bested almost every time.
-Was getting the strongest part of his body cracked by a Vergo who wasn't even going all out. He even implied that the fight would have ended badly for him if it continued.
Was literally fodderised by Doflamingo. It took Doflamingo mere seconds to defeat Sanji. Doflamingo could not handle Luffy (non-g4 & base luffy at that) & law that easily no matter what he did. This & the vergo fight were the first pieces of evidence out of many that the gap between them was massive & completely different from what we thought before.
He lost to judge. Judge is even weaker than his 4 children.
He was beaten to a pulp by his brothers without their raid suits.
He tried his best to knock out a weakened & tired Luffy wasn't using any sort of defences against his attacks & failed.
He was easily bested by daifuku
He was bested by lower tier charlotte family members & had to be saved by his siblings.
Sulong Carrot being stronger than him is very plausible with the evidence presented.
You're missing a ton of context between those fights
@Long:

Sanji didn't lose to Judge. He didn't show kind of serious damage that could justify a defeat. What happened was that Judge was using his tech clones as shields (even killing one for a tatical attack), so Sanji realized that he couldn't keep on fightning without many of those guys dying in the process. So he gave up.
Sanji also didn't lose to his brothers. He defeated Yonji and got some clean hits on Niji before he started being threatened by Zeff's situation if he tried to hit back. So he gave up.
Luffy was knocked out by Sanji before waking up some minutes later to announce his hunger strike.
Also Sanji took an explosion while nami was in his body and he remarked that had an effect
He was trying to get past daifuku to free his family so he coukd focus 1 vs 1 vs daifuku, I also guess you're ignoring the panel of sanji blocking an even bigger genie when it snuck u behind carrot
Sanji was doing "ok" until doffy deployed the hax powers of parasite that sanji wasnt aware of unlike law and luffy, switch zoro out and hes stuxk in midair all the same
Unless Sanji is somehow immune to electro, I'd say sulong Carrot could give him a run for his money. She's faster and more agile than he's ever been shown to be. I think she could hang with him pretty easily in that form. From a pure strength and cunning standpoint, he's still hands down in a different league.

Even besides that, Judge was fighting on par with Sanji without exerting as much effort as he could have while Sanjii was visibly struggling. Judge even got the upper hand on him by kicking & throwing him around.
- Sanji also didn't lose to his brothers. He defeated Yonji and got some clean hits on Niji before he started being threatened by Zeff's situation if he tried to hit back. So he gave up.
He never defeated Yonji. We didn't see the confrontation, but it was clear that they didn't have a full on brawl seeing as how Yonji only had 1 injury. Sanji most likely just kicked him after Yonji pissed him off.
What he did against Niji was what most likely happened to Yonji.
I never said he "lost". to his brothers. I said he was beaten to a pulp, which he was.
- Luffy was knocked out by Sanji before waking up some minutes later to announce his hunger strike.
Luffy had white eyes but that doesn't mean he was knocked out. That's used a lot in One piece. It wasn't minutes later, it was seconds & Luffy stayed up after that & fought Big mom's army so what did Sanji really do?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Long:

It was mentioned by him 1 time during a gag & never brought up again.
it's an even worse showing for him if a simple explosion from Caesar of all people could damage him to that extent. Luffy took one & was fine.
There have been tons of characters who've taken far worse, & that's never happened before.
He was trying to get past daifuku to free his family so he coukd focus 1 vs 1 vs daifuku, I also guess you're ignoring the panel of sanji blocking an even bigger genie when it snuck u behind carrot
How do you explain this?
Sanji was doing "ok" until doffy deployed the hax powers of parasite that sanji wasnt aware of unlike law and luffy, switch zoro out and hes stuxk in midair all the same
He wasn't doing okay. He tried to kick Doffy, missed, was hit with goshikito, tried to kick Doffy again, the kicks were casually blocked, & then Doffy used parasite.
That wouldn't have happened to Zoro because Zoro would have broken out of the strings. Doflamingo didn't use parasite against Luffy & law because they would have done the same. It's a useless move against those with enough physical strength.

Remember Enel? Sanji took a direct lightning strike and was able to talk and stand after that, for a moment.
I don't think Carrots electrical power is anywhere near that level, so he should be able to handle it quite well.
Even besides that, Judge was fighting on par with Sanji without exerting as much effort as he could have while Sanjii was visibly struggling. Judge even got the upper hand on him by kicking & throwing him around.

So law is tougher physically than jozu a literal yonkou commander made of diamonds. Zoro bursting out with his body only also seems like a big stretch seeing as how Luffy only did it in G4 and even then it could have been his CoC or brute strength. Oda didn't show it explocitly but both of those are things Zoro doesn't quite have either. I want him to have feats too but what your saying is throw out all context when it comes to fights.
Like what? No amount of context will change those facts.
lol didn't Luffy get fodderized by Doflamingo in his first encounter? The fuck you on?
Who cares what Carrot can do in Sulong. It's an attack mode that reduces her lifespan at best or kills her at worst. Promoting the use of that form is super immoral and I doubt the crew would further promote/allow it.
Also Sanji is getting pushed around because he refuses to use his logical time-skip powerup: Okama Kenpo. Some people really hate the idea, but it's the only explanation I can up with why Oda let's him underperform this much. He trained with Okama's, he ate with Okama's, it's established that becoming an Okama (or Newkama) is a powerup.
We will see it revealed in Wano during the big 1 vs. 1's, sure of it.

On this I agree. Granted, a lot of his training dealt with cooking since the ultimate goal wasn't learning Okama Kenpo, but stealing their cuisines. Still, he's due a display and I wouldn't be surpised if Oda was holding back on it for his biggest test. I expect he'll use it against either a calamity or an Apoo/Drake. If Hell Memories is any indication, it could be fun.

Some moves do resemble what mr 2 did, but not way he is going okama. And the point was sanji used 2 years to run from them, not learn their moves like zoro did with mihawk. And it's not like okama kempo replaces haki, or is better then DJ, haki is the power up of the new world, not just different style of combat.
If anything, oda is making sanji CP agent. Okamas don't have geppou or blue walk, or even fire powers, and there is another move that sanji will learn for sure( it's not even a question if sanji will learn rankyaku, but when)
Sanji didn't show it yet because oda is saving his armaments of hardening reveal for a big fight. Luffy gets to use it since fishman Island, but zoro only shows it in dressrosa, while showing invisible haki in punk hazard. Sanji used invisible haki in cake Island, while wano coudl be the arc he shows armaments.

The way Judge used some of his best techniques (for all we know) without leaving a single scratch on Sanji reminds me a lot of the fight against Kuroobi, when Sanji took some hits even on land before finishing the the fishboi easily. In fact, just before the final blows (when Judge killed a soldier), Sanji was laying on the ground, looking at the sky, smoking a cigarette, clearly thinking about things, which demonstrates the state of mind that he was in during the whole fight (that was picked by Judge, not Sanji, as the characters explained).
Yonji wanted to bully Sanji (to beat him into a pulp, like in the good ol' days), but he ended up frustrated at the nursery with his head literally smashed. I wonder who's stronger.
If Sanji was beaten to a pulp by his brothers without losing… then it doesn't really counts to measure his power level, right?
Luffy was knocked out. It's not only the white eyes, but he also fell on the floor and stayed there unconscious for a good amount of time, in which we had Nami's slap and then Sanji got into the carriage and was leaving the scene. Only after that that Luffy got up and started screaming.
They must all hate Luffy then.

That's the crews early reaction to Luffy using gears, and in his case they don't even know for sure that the technique has drastic longterm effects on his body/lifespan. And even if they would know, there is not much they can do against the will of their captain.
On the other hand, Carrot's case was spelled out for everyone to hear, and here we are talking about a naive girl still exploring the wonders of the world. There is no way the crew would allow her to use Sulong, especially since someone would have to come up with a device to let her use it on demand (Dragon Ball Vegeta style).
Who cares what Carrot can do in Sulong. It's an attack mode that reduces her lifespan at best or kills her at worst. Promoting the use of that form is super immoral and I doubt the crew would further promote/allow it.
There's a lot of translation going around in One Piece world, but I'm not sure if "reducing lifespan" is what actually happens, like "I'm going to die 10 years earlier now". What Jimbe explains is that, during the transformation, minks never stop rampaging and may end up dying of exhaustion. However, with enough rest after Sulong, it's possible that they'll be just alright… not necessarily like Gear 2nd.
Of course the crew won't forbid Carrot from using Sulong if they want to. The first reason is because she'll only do it on dire situations, not idly. The second is because some of the minks train for Sulong, so it would be very selfish to come up to a culture that spent their entire lives as warriors honing the technique (probably transforming for training's sake) and tell them to quit it.

I thought it was stated it can kill them if they do it too long but not that it effect their lifespan at all.

Brook: It's a double-edged sword… so basically, it's a combat technique that reduces their lifespan
Mangapanda:
Brook: A double-edged sword. A technique that shaves away at one's very own life.
These are the only translations I have access to. You've got another source? I don't trust Panda's translation, but Jaimini's is usually not bad.

In the Viz, listening to the OPP podcast it mentions the minks "fighting themselves to death" and brook merely remarking " so its a double edged sword" before expressing a desire to join her
The emphasis I got from it, is that it meant if the minks cant turn off this mode they'll die. Not everytime they use it, they get lose years of their lifespan.
I'm doing a bit of a reread and I gotta say maybe they do need a lookout because they somehow didn't notice the Puffing Tom chugging around on open ocean and almost got hit by it.
Its your stuff, whatever makes sense to you.
Great, that's one thing checked off the payment list. So, when you decide on a candidate who could use a Jolly Roger, just message me and I'll make it a good one!
@uniaka:
How so? We see with jimbe what a new nakama needs these days before he gets in the crew, so why would you think that someone can just show up out of nothing and join? He also lacks the 2 years of time skip, jimbe was in impel down, marineford, then with fishman Island and cake Island, cover story yet he still only goes in the crew(for good, maybe) in wano.
I was talking about fan reaction, that's the poor thing to base it on. Jimbei already was well past the point of needing to strut his Helmsman stuff given how he checked off literally every 'New Nakama Qualifications' box and then some even before the time skip (minus the flashback, but we got that at FI), he just happened to have the opportunity to do something kick-ass in the middle of the big chase with that Green Room ship surfing. I can't help it if so many people are slow on the uptake of how incalculably awesome he is. I knew he was going to join even before the time-skip was over, given how amazing everything about him was from their jailbreak at Impel Down. Luffy clinched it back in Fishman Island even if Jimbei had to take care of business first (and still has, obviously). He clearly wasn't sitting on ass getting fat(ter) and lazy like Arlong during their downtime before entering the New World, so the one and only excuse for him to not join (that he may not have kept up with them enough to be able to join) evaporated when we saw him capable of taking out Hody if he wanted, but letting Luffy do it to become the human hero of Fishman Island. Unlike anyone else in the running, Jimbei's actually been around the entire crew, not the half of them that came to get Sanji back. So if people are still bitching and moaning about him, they just have bad taste. That says nothing about the quality of writing of the character or the series as a whole (not that either are without imperfections, but I digress.)
He's in. He's been in. If people don't like it they can read something else. It's actually kind of fitting that someone with his talents doesn't just stick around permanently right away, he's like the overpowered character in a video game that you get to control in a few key parts before you get to finally have full control over them near the end.
I'm doing a bit of a reread and I gotta say maybe they do need a lookout because they somehow didn't notice the Puffing Tom chugging around on open ocean and almost got hit by it.
Didn't Carrot drop the ball pretty bad just a couple of chapters ago? Doesn't bode well for a potential lookout. But it's hardly an essential position. I know Brook's isn't either but Luffy wanted a musician since the beginning and I assume Shanks has one (to have given Luffy the idea) so it's more an aesthetic thing than practical. A lookout is neither.
Oh I was joking. I just found it amusing how they often miss these huge things on the ocean.
