Sabaody's point is the defeat itself. That's why there was a ton of emphasis on it.
This arc's point isn't the defeat. Its point is getting away safely with what they need. So what if they get halted for a second? A chunk of the chapter focused on the Tametabako, and rightly so, because that's more important than seeing Huey, Dewey, and Louie get offed by Anime Man.
G4 is sustained by ridiculous amount of haki, which drains him out. But he lasted quite a bit longer than 1 attack when he used it against Doflamingo.
I think he was fighting with it for around 20 minutes.
To me it looked like Luffy was getting drained by someone or maybe it was some of Big Mom df power aspects.
Luffy managed to go into Kong Gun when he was bloodied and barely standing on his feet.. This is weird.
But after a moment I guess that its Deactivation of Gear Fourth that gets Luffy that famished, I thought till now that its all about using it as long as possible and getting tired being effect of long use but now I got corrected as It seems.

Game and Guy ninja'd what I was going to answer. The comparison isn't valid because the points of each development are widely different. The entire goal of Sabãody in terms of storytelling was to have the Straw Hats utterly crushed. The scene with the Forces of Rage defeating Luffy and Nami (and King Baum, RIP) was supposed to be extremely dramatic, showing Luffy fighting against impossible odds, under the falling rain and thunderstorm. Here, we're just treated to the Alliance being overwhelmed by an Emperor's Horde as if it means nothing to them (Warcraft pun, if anyone catches 
), just like Smoothie mentioned last chapter: "They thought they could walk all over us." They were just proven wrong.
On another note, lol an people complaining that Sanji is weak and should be demoted from the monster trio in a chapter where EVERYONE is downed by an Emperor's full might. Wth.

Recently, we at least had the terrific sequence of Luffy being flattened by 2 gigantic haki-fists after he got caught off-guard by the book illusion. Even though I rooted for him to beat the whole army and stay there to keep his promise to Sanji, that defeat was well-done.Now this ending here is just weak from my perspective. Yes it´s just my personal opinion. I am not mad or anything, just a bit disappointed. And yeah the box doing exactly what everyone expected is unexciting, just like reading the chapter after spoilers.
Since the beginning, I was expecting BM to mop the floor with them just to showcase they got extremely lucky to escape alive…skipping how they get owned is unsatisfactory. Except for that missing part, the chapter was really good.
Anyway, I´ve been feeling this for a while, One Piece has become too large for a forced weekly serialization and would require at least 3x the number of pages per wek to keep its high quality, but it´s not humanly possible for the author to do that in that time frame.
Way too much stuff that would be surely amazing to read is simply skipped these days :sad:

You are answering yourself. Marco is going to train him because he knows how to awaken a fruit. With Gol D Roger crew he learns about Haki and with Whitebeard crew how to use a Devil Fruit.

Nah bro, it's going to be on Elbaf. Oda has clearly set the pieces of Big Mom's connection to Elbaf, and that's definitely one of the famed islands the Strawhats will land on.
It's looking like SH progression will be:
Alliance takes down Kaido in Wano, then they end up on Elbaf, that's where Big Mom is defeated, and then we move toward BB/Shanks.
I personally think Luffy won't ever fight Shanks, but that BB will down Shanks, setting up the battle for PK of Luffy vs. BB.

I don't think her island is weakened at all. Sure, her castle collapsed, but that doesn't mean anything regarding her crew. With the exception of Cracker and Bobbin, there have been no losses at all in her crew, and even then, Cracker will be back to normal in a week or so

while I don't disagree with you, I have a feeling the translation is wrong, unfortunately. I don't think that Oda would make BM look at Kaidou as an anomaly, thus a "thing" to be rid of. I do, however, expect her to think highly of herself vs Kaidou, and basically be saying "if you think you can beat me after you beat Kaidou, you're fooling yourselves", is a more reasonable translation. but, since my translation ability is weak and I'm not looking at the RAW, I can't confirm or deny one way or the other

After reading the chapter in full I am disappointed how the important fight was short-cut.
This wasn't meant to be some kind of mega-epic 10 chapter battle, but directing at least one full chapter towards Luffy vs Big Mom might have been a far better pacing instead of really not more than a few pages-
I don't like to say this, but the various short-cuts Oda took this arc left a rather bad impression on me. Two other examples this arc were Luffy vs. Cracker and the whole predicament with Caesar.
My general feeling is that Oda has to some extent consistent problems with the pacing and structure of the arcs since Fishman island. Now don't get me wrong, this arc has a very creative setting and general storyline which differentiates pleasantly from many other arc and in terms of that it really stands out. But the short-cuts he made were, for me at least, rather annoying. We had arcs that were unnecessarly drawn out in Fishman island and especially Dressrosa. Totland seems to me the opposite, where the problem isn't the amount of various plots, but rather the shortening.

We're clearly getting really close to the end of the arc, many people here complain that stuff is being cut just so we can get to Wano as fast as possible.
It's not like Luffy lost all his power after that one Kong gun. In advance for doing the Kong gun he told Sanji "Only one punch", and after that punch he reverted to normal mode deliberately.

There is a good reason to return to Fisherman Island: to free that country (and put all the fishes in the surface) and to accomplish the profecy where Luffy destroys it. It would be disapointing a second arc, really? Fisherman Island is now Luffy turf so if they need help all the Luffy Gran Fleet will come to help versus Big Mom. Luffy is not alone now. You will see when they discover the Rio Poneglyph you will see all the travel back. Just remember my words ;D

I think it will rather go down the route of Oda again underestimating the length of his story arcs.

A guarantee that Big Mom won't go after Zeff is only needed if we are to believe the hypothesis that's been floating around for a long time that Big Mom won't be a threat after this arc and the Straw Hats will leave on neutral terms. If she's still a threat, the Straw Hats and co. can deal with said threat later; so either the first point, the escape, or this one can happen, not both;
Sanji to get "his moment" is mostly fan wishing; he's been developed a bit more, he's had the plot follow after him, we got him back in the crew and saved his family, which he then basically shoved in their faces; he's going to get a badass fight in Wano 100 %, and since it looks like proper fights this arc are a no go, what do people really expect him to do more?
Commander Snack is a background character created to hype supernovas;
Tamago was defeated by Pedro and both fulfilled their role in the arc;
Pekoms indeed has to come back, that's for sure;
Pound… Honestly, what role can he play? Plead for lives and end up beaten like Chiffon? Don't know, honestly;
Opera is probably as far away as possible in order to save his hide, at the moment;

No because Rayleigh is not a Devil Fruit user so it's not the same. "because he himself never become a rubber man before" that means nothing. In a crew like Whitebeard's i'm sure he fought plenty of combats vs devil fruit users and learned what are the weaknesses and how Devil Fruit's works (that's why Blackbeard joined them because the chances to learn and discover devil fruits were greater than with other crews, also Whitebeard got the enciclopedia). Zoro can awaken his COC like Luffy did in Marineford arc but your argument it's not logical (Zoro is going to become the new Rayleigh so he has to surpass him) because you don't know if Zoro is going to awaken that new Haki (like Ussop did for example). Marco is a Devil Fruit user with experience so i'm sure he can awaken his fruit and know a way (like Rayleigh did with Haki) to master it.
Whitebeard remants can train Luffy crew or prepare them to fight Kaidou. I can imagine Marco training Luffy, Zoro training with Vista, CUriel and Izo with Ussop, Blenheim with Brook, Joz with Chopper, Rakuyo with Franky…i don't know but i think they need to prepare a strategie for Kaidou before attacking him.

None of that stuff is important right now to the arc, right now it's haul ass and get away from Totland time. This arc is ending in 4-5 chapters IMO. We don't need to see everything, and I'm sure stuff might be answered in Elbaf.

i've said it before and people disagree but w/e here's my beef with this chapter/arc. Why the hell call it year of sanji if we are just going to shyt on him all arc. Why?
Arc so far:
Sanji gets shyt on as the damsel in distress that needs to be saved
Sanji holds his own agains everyone in Germa 66 but still gets beat up by underhanded tactics by dad and bros
Sanji get backstabbed by his potential waifu
Sanji beats up his own captain (i get it but just that he 'had' to do that sucks balls)
Sanji is left out of any important pieces to the crews success(breaking photo, getting poneglyphs)
Sanji fails to do anything worthwhile in the escape
The only time he did anything barely worthwhile here is:
-dodging bullets
-breaking candy with his foot
-catching nami from a fall
-catching luffy while he's deflating
Like real talk its bogus. We have waited since the time skip to see anything remotely advanced and new and still nothing? We are seriously escaping with nothing. Really.
Like im mostly annoyed because I can hear all the losers saying Sanji is fodder or not worthy or blah blah but I'm still reserving judgment on that for mainly two reasons:
-Sanji destroyed 99 top martial artists in less than 2 years. That's more than 1 a week. He's gotta have something to show from that.
-We havent gotten to see a full out fight as he's been pulled out of any fights to date
But to see Sanji on the ground covered in what seems like candy, fully restrained when he is at full health….this is just a disappointment. It's a disappointment because he is clearly stronger than his siblings. He knocked Yonji's face in with a single kick and it needed to be repaired, even as Yonji was in his raid suit. He also easily stood his own against his father until a sneak attack where his dad killed his own man just to get Sanji.

Really, are we really supposed to believe now that they will manage to escape without any proper resolution now? So the bomb just conveniently helps them to pull off their escape and we can go on to the next arc without a proper climax? Just. Won't. Happen. (And no, I'm not suggesting that Big Mom gets beaten in an allout fight.)
I just had a thought do you think the reason Luffy lost Gear 4 so quickly is because Big Mom stole his Armament Haki via her soul powers? Since Armament is essential spirit armour? The Panel with her armoured hand after the clash shows a lined coating around it which could be her stealing Luffy's spirit?
he's actually fodder , because he's always used as a way to hype current characters on the arc (vergo,Dofla,Judge) . He even barely can stand his ground against non-commanders of Big Mom's crew. Just as comparison , Zoro can give a slash as his resistance against an admiral.
not sure if you payed attention to that shot, but there is MORE THAN 1 official there, including smoothie (which you guys were complaining about doing nothing), and he was trying to save luffy's tired ass, how is he supposed to fight in this condition?
