So is Sanji the white ranger( white suit he has now), black ranger(blackleg) or yellow ranger(hair)???
Chapter 869: Under Siege

Im not sure what Oda has in mind when he decided to let the Tamatebako Box fall off of the chateau. The explosives wont do any damage. So it kinda made sense that Mom opens it and all her excitement blows up in her face. But now? On the other hand, Big Mom on E.S. would be overkill…she is already overkill
-
Diesel is been off the rails for so long.
It's not his fault. Big Mom's territory seems like it's on the wrong side of the tracks.

This might be a bit off topic, but did Count Niwatori appear in the wedding at least once? Did I miss him? If not, where do you think he might be?

Nope. He is completely missing for some strange reason.
-
@Count:
Nope. He is completely missing for some strange reason.
Strange indeed how 3 of the original 5 BM members introduced since fishman island are not here. Bobbin, pekoms and tamago. Maybe tamago is after pound, another guy that just vanished, to capture him, or after opera to capture him. Or maybe he went after pekoms and together they will bring the bomb back, since they got it here from fishman island in the first place. Bobbin still has yet to use his sleeping powers for something.
-
Either Pound went to gather all the ex-husbands or in a longer stretch he has some sort of connection to Elbaf because of his big head…the islands seem close enough. But I prefer the discarded hubbies to come back.
The big head thing is not serious.
-
Maybe Pound living his dream of finally getting his apple juice.

That's some serious eleventh crewmate potential right there.
-
Niwatori will be here after he crosses the road.

As others have mentioned, the Germa 66 spread is the best part of the chapter, from a strictly visual artistic sense. I'm honestly alittle annoyed a well drawn scene like that was devoted to them. They don't deserve something like that in my eyes.
I got a nice chuckle out of what happens to Bege at the end. The guy has been established as having a history of toppling the bosses of large criminal organizations. He thought he was going to pull that off here once again, I always enjoy seeing smug insolence backfire on someone. Reminds me abit of when Vegeta decided to fight Freeza in his final form, because he though he became a Super Sayian. I wouldn't mind Bege becoming the kind of sacrifical lamb for Linlin that Vegeta was for Freeza. Not that I believe for one second it will happen mind you, it's just an amusing thought.

But can he fit through doors?!!!

btw am I the only one under the impression that the Captains of Luffy's fleet are gonna be gathering even more people??, Cabbage's fans are already following and seems to me those guys from Barto's coverstory will end up somehow joining the party.
-
Maybe the non-charlotte family members arent invited in the tea party? i havent seen Tamago and Amande

Amande is there, we saw her at the end of chapter 863:
!

Oh i cant believe i missed that. Where the hell is Tamago?

Yes, you are. This character that i forgot his name, was only depicting that someone is following him to his demise… like the apes to Norland.
-
This short moment of glory didn't redeemed the Vinsmoke in the slightest for all the crimes they have done, and neither it redeemed them for the poor characterization they have received.
Sanji giving directives coldly to Judge was awesome. But Judge is too proud to show even a bit of gratitude and appreciation towards his son, since it was he himself in the first place to reject Sanji.
That Pudding's "gasp!" moment…. there could be lot of other ways for Oda to build/justify her switching sides to the Straw Hats other than growing jealous of Sanji. I get that Oda might be thinking to make poethic justice for Pudding having previously called Sanji "worthless failure" "who the hell would marry a guy like that" in front of Reiju, but it is lame nevertheless to witness such a bland character developement in a manga of this caliber.
Whatever miracle will save the alliance, whether Linlin begins her rampage for the cake, or something else entirely, it shouldn't be long before it happens by now. I'd say the next chapter, or in 2 - 3 chapters at most.

What would happen if Big Mum ate one of Chopper's Rumble balls while entering in one of her rampages ? :wassat: total obliteration?

Well given that the Rumble Balls seem to create variation from the normal Zoan transformation, there's not reason to believe it would effect her at all.
Or anyone other than Chopper, for that matter.

I was under the impression that rumble balls altered the wave lengths in which devil fruits operate.
At this point this is a mere conjecture on my behalf, but why would signals hailing from paramecia or loggia fruits be different from those given by zoan fruits? I get that the ''end result'' is different (being this the abilities given to the user by the fruit).
I'm not implying that rumble balls work on the ''end result'' itself. On the contrary their effects seem to be more primordial, taking place in deeper levels. As I understand it ''the RB perturbs and acts upon the conduit through which the ability is transferred from the devil itself to the user'' , I'm speaking about the reaction that the users experience when they activate their fruit by sheer will. When an ability is triggered there is probably a command given through a wave ( make that 2 waves) one neurological expressing the willingness of the user calling the devil to use the fruit and a second wave responding to such a call in which all the information for the ability to manifest itself will be comprised and deployed. Under this light why wouldn't mochi change consistency as a result of Katakuris' devil fruit wave length being tampered with or why wouldn't rubber change one of its properties due to the same reason is out there to debate. I wish my post is clear enough to get my idea across.
-
Oda managed to represent the very-noisy atmosphere really well. I could hear Big Mom scream throughout the whole chapter!
The Vinsmokes' entrance was impressive; glad they got a few cool scenes. -
what's everyones opinion in the survival of everyone in the alliance?
As of now, it seems highly unlikely that anyone present could beat big mom. But anyone thinks there might be a casualty of the alliance (of course no one of the actual straw hats)? Like Bege maybe? Or Judge?I'm really looking forward at what a rampaging Big Mom looks like, who isn't in one of her food induced confusions
-

That's an interesting theory.
We still don't know what Oda means with awakened fruits, but the Rumble Balls could be an artificial version of it. -
@Shobu:
Loook, look!!! There's a guy with devil wings :ninja:
I'm more interested in the dude with giant face, Giant-heads like Ivankov, Pound and that dude could make up a new race along with long-necks an the others.
btw Amande always looks so dismal, baleful and creepy, it could make up her own horror movie and it would be better than any of the latest horror Hollywood movies.

SN DarkWitch asked if me this in the spoiler thread.
You think a simple cake is going to fix everything?
And that's exactly why I said you're oversimplifying it ^o^
It's not just a cake. There are a lot of moving parts here. The cake is merely part of it. You're not thinking big. -

-
Comparisons time! Luckily this one didn't take too long, since there wasn't too much dialogue.
- While both of the scanlations call the chapter "Under Seige", the official translation's name for it is "Castling". Possibly as a pun referencing the chess move involving the King and the Rook?
- Instead of just referring to the castle as "Big Father" the way the scanlations do, the official version calls it "The Bigfather".
- Mangastream does not provide any T/N or subtitles for the theme song that's apparently in the background as the Vinsmokes suit up. However, Jaimini's Box does, clarifying that there are sound effects in a T/N, and VIZ subtitles them as well.
- Niji's subtitle in the original (kept in the scanlations) was "Dengeki ("lightning") Blue", unlike the others whose full names are in English. In the official translation, it's changed to be all-English as well (as expected), into "Electric Blue".
- In MS, Perospero states "Betrayal stings" after Bege tries to shoot Big Mom and he blocks it with the Candy Wall. However, in both JB and VIZ, he states, "Ah, that hurt"/"Ah, that one hurt", more like he means that Bege's cannon assault hurt him.
- Katakuri's words to Brûlée in the official translation make it even more clear that he's blaming her for her role in the plan: "You let them use you for everything, Brûlée."
- Mangastream also randomly throws in "You bastards" a couple of places where JB and VIZ don't have it, including when Perospero tells Bege he'll get what's coming to him for helping Germa, and when Big Mom is yelling for those inside the castle to show themselves.

I only noticed this morning when reading the Viz translation that Vito is fanboying to the Vinsmokes in the background, once they go inside Bege.

Oda seems to have lost his train of thought :ninja:

As of now, it seems highly unlikely that anyone present could beat big mom. But anyone thinks there might be a casualty of the alliance (of course no one of the actual straw hats)? Like Bege maybe? Or Judge? We're 3 arcs into the "dangers" of the New World yet we didn't lose anyone so far (flashbacks notwithstanding of course). Not in Punk Hazard, Not in Dressrosa, and Zou wasn't any different. Not a single person that could be considered an ally or neutral died on panel, not even an anonymous bystander. It did not happen so far, I fail to see why this arc should be any different. Bege will likely be saved on the brink of death and indebted to the Straw Hats, as for Judge he may live to see the Germa collapse and his dreams of conquest with it. To top it off he will owe his life to the son he despised and rejected like trash. And in the unlikely event that he comes around and wants to accept Sanji as his legitimate son, the later will probably turn him down. Having to live with all of this seems a more fitting punishment than death, don't you think ?

Did anyone notice how emotional Pudding got when Sanji caught and held on to Nami?

Yh, I wonder where Oda is leading with that whole aspect of Sanji-Nami-Pudding esp Sanji and Pudding.

Well, if we believe in Greg´s theory, Pudding is pretty much essential to the conclusion of the arc and also the mastermind behind most events.
Sanji, actually managing to have a girl fall in love with him once, could thus be essential in influencing her which would also make all those years of Sanji being Oda´s punching bag more tolerable. -

Nah. If we can believe Pudding´s small flashback when Sanji called her beautiful (we have no reason to not right now), Pudding was insulted and shunned so much that she became twisted that she enjoys the pain of others but Sanji´s words actually touched her, so Sanji could easily use that influence to bring her back to the right path and help solve the situation, of course all assuming that she really changed the memories of her family members but it seems reasonable, otherwise why introduce such a power.
-
B-bakas! It's not like Pudding likes him or anything! She was merely having a moment of confusion, that's all!
-

I think it's because Ichiji hit him.

At this point I'd say her joining is out the window. Depending on how things go, she could be an ally or a Hancock-esque character(Sanji marrying her at the end, like Luffy accepting Hancock's marriage ala Goku and Chichi). The only hint I've seen really towards her joining at any point was Luffy's statement on Zou of "Well, why doesn't she just join the crew too" when discovering the marriage.
As for are they "actually" married now, that statement really means nothing. It's not like the marriage holds any wait for two criminals wanted by the Government. It's only a political marriage in the view of Big Mom. And even so, they didn't get to any "I do's" or exchange rings(though maybe that part is different in Japanese weddings).
