I think DQ10 is probably the base blueprint for their combat.
Finally polished off Dragonquest VII and boy that was not a great game writing wise.
Plot holes, red herrings, continuity snarls, etc
And the monster puns (why?)
are you really complaining about puns in a dragon quest game
really

Is this your first Dragon Quest game then?
I do not understand why the puns would surprise you then.
In Rocket Slime every single line had at least two slime puns.
We just got used to it after a while.

They didn't surprise me by them being there they did surprise me with how bad they got at a certain point maybe it's
because I haven't played 8 or Rocket Slime (where the puns with better fit) but I can't recall cringing as much playing either
game.
Dragon Quest 11 coming July 29th to both PS4 and 3DS in Japan:
PS4 battle footage, there was NO SWITCH FOOTAGE OR MENTION at the event.
I don't see any position moving or anything in that gameplay.
The item download service for Dragon Quest 8 is down again, and has been for days. This is at least the third time, can we do something about it besides mass calling Nintendo every few weeks?

You can JUMP in Dragon Quest now? :O
(1:29 in the 3ds trailer)
SO, any word on an English release date? Late 2017? 2019?
Also I still thinks its nuts they're basically making the same game three times simultaneously. I know thats how it often works with ports but this case especially it looks nuts because of the different aesthetics coming into play.
God if I wind up getting all three versions I'll feel like such a tool
But also I'll probably get all three versions

Only 2 games, but the 3DS version has a NES and a PS2 version on each screen. Which is a crazy neat novelty but WHY.
You actually switch between 2D and 3D mode
This has the effect of turning on and off random encounters as well

The boss battle is demonstrating the auto battle camera setting, you can change it in the menu.

Yup in both versions!

2018, usually a year gap between Japan and English release, though the Asia release may have English subtitles and that's coming this Winter.
Should also mention they were planning a May release in time with the anniversary but delayed it for 3 months for extra polish.

There's a dual pack you can buy from SE store:
I'm so ready.
(16 characters)
A game that will be released exactly a year after it was announced. What a novel concept. Maybe Square should take some notes from Enix.
^ Is that a jab at XV?
I love the look of both versions, but I can't see myself buying the same game twice. PS4 it is.
I wonder what other character they're gonna reveal
we're still missing a big beefy dude and/or someone decked in armor
maybe we'll even get a mystic like Meena! haven't seen one of those in a little while

Maybe a robot? They exist in most DQ worlds, but we've never seen them as party members aside from recruitable monsters.

Both 9 and 10 we technically announced WAY before they ever came out.
9 was delayed 3 times!
8 was my first this is my second DQ.game.
To be honest, DQ7 is my least favorite numbered DQ by far.
DQV > DQ III > DQ VIII > rest.
IMO of course.
As for the shiny DQXI deluxe pack…
I like the box with the sword and it would look great on my collectible shelves, but I wish it wasn't a double-pack and instead stuffed with artbooks or something.
I doubt I'll ever play the 3DS version anyways.
I kind of wanted the double pack but given that it's only available at select sellers getting it to the EU comes at such a premium it would actually be just cheaper buying both 3ds/Ps4 separate. Which is guess is very much the smart thing to do if one wants to play both since it's really just the packaging that's special here.
The Rare Emperor – King of Delcadar
The king that rules over Delcadar. Not only is he praised as the wisest king in Lotozetasia, he is also a master swordsman, and is regarded as rare in that he has all the qualities of a king. Although he is a generous man, when order is disturbed, he is strict and austere in addressing it.
The Great General – Greig
The brave general of Delcadar. There is none in the kingdom that rivals him in swordsmanship, and despite facing against monsters hundreds of the times in the past, even now he is undefeated. He has strong loyalty and is willing to risk his life as a shield as long as it is for the sake of his lord.
The Cold-Blooded Strategist – Homer
The strategist of Delcadar skilled in the art of war no matter the time and place. He has secured many achievements, such as destroying a large army of monsters with only a skeleton force. He is a character with accurate judgment and quick decisiveness who will execute a strategy based on the situation in order to secure victory.

Man barring the King (and even sort of him) don't really look like Toriyama designed them.
The king is a decked out Dr. Gero
The rest aren't his usual though
Oh the face is clearly Gero, but the robes sort of throw me off.
Homer is Serpico from Berserk.
Jirard the Completionist did a promo thing for Dragon Quest Heroes 2 that's also a top ten Dragon Quest games.
Let’s Ride a Monster
Among the game’s monsters, there are those that you can ride. Defeat it in battle and hop aboard.
—Ride a monster to fly in places that you cannot pass through on foot!
—By riding a monster, you can even climb up steep cliffs that would normally block your path!

We thought HMs died, but they came back stronger than before
i hope i can do sick drifts on a sabrecat
Dragon Quest XI will have a “Restricted Play” system, allowing you to play the game with certain restrictions. A screenshot was shown where shopping was restricted. Even when you talk to the owner of the shop while playing with shopping restrictions, you won’t be able to see what he is selling.

Did they say why? I get that some people like handicapping themselves, but it seems like a strange feature to program into the game.
it's just there for self-imposed challenges
I don't care about that so much as I wanna know is the game going to have chest and drawers full of low level useless bullshit even up to the end game.
You don't want 5G and cypress sticks at endgame???
Although I think the cypress stick was useful in one of them - I remember it was part of a critical hit set, think it was snes V.
They should do more stuff like that. I guess alchemy often utilises useless stuff too.

After VII I think I have enough Cypress Sticks, Traveler's Garb, And Leather Shields to run my open Weapons/Item Shop….Trick is finding some poor sops to buy it all.
So, found a used copy of DQ Monsters: Joker today and picked it up.
I have a trip coming up and was planning to start DQ7 then, but now I also have this. Which one should I do first?
PSX DQVII is a better game then Joker. But I assume you're playing 3DS DQVII, in which case I'm not sure. I stopped playing it after I got bummed out by the changes to the opening. Assuming there were no other changes and you don't mind the added accents, DQVII is still better.

I liked Joker 1 a lot more than DQ7, and it's also a much shorter game… go with Joker.
The game is basically Pokemon (right down to the uninspired plot), but with far better graphics and mechanics.
Dragon Quest 11 got a Nintendo direct:
! There are these Denpamen/Pokemon/Chao things that you can trade and collect on the 3DS version! Also missions in past Dragon Quest games! (I think?)
Whelp, finally started up my Dragon Quest 7 DS copy that I got like… when it came out... a year ago?
An hour and a half in after endlessly running back and forth in the city and I'm where I was at when I screwed up my Playstation run!
Some of this seems familiar, so maybe I got a little further than I remember getting 10 years ago... and I was just really, REALLY dumb about saving since "it's just slimes. I'll level up a little and then go save!" before getting jumped by bats or skeletons or something and not being able to run. As I have seen neither of those yet, I must have been a little further than I remembered getting.
Well, at least the story can actually start now!
@me:
Now I just need to finish playing 6, start and play through all of 7, buy a copy of 4 and play through that, play through 8…. and then finish off Witcher 3, Suikoden 2, Trails in the Sky, Persona 4, and I'll be set for when this or Nino Kuni 2 come out!
Well.. I've finished DQ6 and Witcher 3 at least. (Ultimately didn't care much for 6.) And managed Horizon Zero Dawn which wasn't even on that list. And still have Mass Effect A to start…. haven't even picked up DQ 4 or 8 yet... (I really want to play 4 though since apparently while 5 has the best story, 4 has the most beloved characters.)
and replay Suikoden 1 since I've forgotten everything about it before I can do 2 which I've never played... Trails (all 3 of them now)... Xenoblade... the YS games.... DQ Monsters.... And at this point even though I have Persona 4 the consensus seems to be 5 is even better.... at least Nino Kuni and DQ 11 aren't anywhere near.
And I know better than to pick up Disgaea 5.
Well, at least the story can actually start now!
Be sure to tell us how you like it along with the NPCs and the class system.
Well.. I've finished DQ6 and Witcher 3 at least. (Ultimately didn't care much for 6.)
6's class system confused me a lot. For most of the game I assumed that the class system worked like Dragon Quest 3's class system (class changes in DQ3 are permanent and each change resets your level to 1), and ended up having to grind for about 20 hours straight before the final boss.
anyone on ap getting 11?
