I thought NBC was legit too. But then the conspiracy nuts like to converge anywhere on the internet. Esp. in comment sections it seems.
I was annoyed at one who kept saying "9/11 was an inside job since fire doesn't make a building collapse!" and "in all of the history of buildings, fire doesn't make a building collapse" (he obviously forgot that steel buildings are a new invention and most of building history was wood or brick) but loved the response that boiled down to of course the buildings didn't collapse due to fire there was video of a JET flying into the building. Really its that simple it wasn't the fire that caused the collapse but the jets flying into it that destroyed the integrity of the structure. After all Buildings don't stay up when a demolition ball smashes through it, why think it would stay up when a jet flies into it???
After that nutcase I backed out and refused to read anymore of the nutcases

It could only have been darker if Johnny Cash's version of Hurt was playing lol.
When the cars are supposed to be the people of the movie slowmo horrific crashes are probably a bit much for kids of that age range. I can't remember if it was this forum but someone said it's most likely done to get McQueen a fully new look for new toys.

Wheelchair McQueen. I'm sorry if it makes me a monster, but I just can't care about a driverless car getting smashed up at all.

Eh. It's surprising to see considering the tone that people are used to for the movies, sure, but it's not too much for the age range. As seen with Mufasa's death and various Pixar scenes like seeing the toys that Sid took apart and mashed together in Toy Story 1. I consider the latter to be more trauma-inducing than this lol.
And it's a racing car series, they should show off a car crash at some point. They even acknowledged that cars break down and get messed up in the first movie. Various serious and dark topics can and, depending on the narrative and characterization potential, should be focused on. It all depends on execution. Plenty of children-oriented movies showcase the subject of depth and I've even seen cartoons tackle subjects of relationship abuse. Not to mention "controversial" topics like sexuality and what not in Steven Universe, and horror series like Goosebumps. We shouldn't coddle kids to believe this stuff can't happen by putting blindfolds on them for every single traumatic experience. They need to learn at some point, and movies like this can be great ways to introduce such subjects and have them grow more wise, careful, and capable. And all kids are different, and plenty watch a wide array of varying "mature-r" material without becoming terrified or scarred lol. If seen having visible problems, they should be moderated and supervised by their parents who can talk to them and be aware of their sensibilities. That's why it's important to, you know, pay attention to ratings. Rather than seeing a poster of Sausage Party and automatically assuming it will be a lighthearted romp because it's animated.
I think what matters when tackling these topics towards kids is the execution rather than the topic being tackled in general. Using Mufasa's death as an example, the specific moments of his impact with the ground from falling and getting trampled over by the wildebeests is off-screen. We're only left with seeing his corpse, which is basically just a lifeless version of him that practically looks like he's sleeping. That works because the gravitas is appropriately made in the atmosphere, reactions, and what is left up to the mind without becoming too graphic for the kiddies. What would have been too far is showing Mufasa's body getting punctured by hooves, mutilated flesh, and maybe having his eyes a bit open rather than how most animation likes to show off dead bodies like the deceased is taking a nap.
And with the trailer, well, it's just McQueen flying in midair with parts of his body damaged. And we don't even see his face/reactions. That's literally it, and that's not really dark. At all, honestly lol, just serious, which animation as a whole should be more accredited for having. If anything, what makes it seem dark is the worrisome voiceover, hearing his breathing, lack of music, and the foggy weather. The atmosphere and reactions that strike to provoke the mind's imagination. Just like I mentioned with Mufasa. That's what might make it a bit dark, and we see that all of the time in great animation.
If this scene had been portrayed with brighter colors, faster pacing, and put at the end of an extended trailer where we see his face and a bit of the race before, it wouldn't seem like a big deal at all. It'd be more like a cliche action movie cliffhanger. This would only reach into dark territory if we actually saw things like McQueen's impact, his facial reactions to the pain and how messed up his face would probably be from the damage, wheels and the hood flying off to simulate body parts flying away, etc, then that would be too much. But I'm willing to bet fifty bucks that when watching the actual movie, the scene cuts before McQueen hits the ground and we only see perspectives of the wreckage from far side and back views, and at most seeing McQueen's first-person perspective in his damaged state with panic and confusion around him without actually seeing his body close-up. That, or even just an immediate skip to audience reactions, McQueen getting pulled away, and then straight to some sort of hospital or rehabilitation scene. And like you said, this is probably for the sake of selling more toys from a new upgraded look, so I doubt that Pixar is actually going to have serious/darker overtones throughout the movie. I'm expecting a complete fakeout. But if they actually stick to their guns with this type of tone (and you could still maintain plenty of the humor and lightheartedness) and the subject permanent damage, recovery, and retirement from sports injuries, then I'll be pleasantly surprised.
Wheelchair McQueen. I'm sorry if it makes me a monster, but I just can't care about a driverless car getting smashed up at all.
I don't think that logic works well with the drama we've seen towards things like all of the times the toys in Toy Story almost got destroyed. Or the various types of characters that might be silent and even be pets, or robots, and the like across all media. If it's just the fact that they're cars and you solely associate them with being lifeless shells driven by humans, then that's pretty superficial character investment. Even Spongebob has had moments like in the movie where Spongebob and Patrick dried up where you can feel genuinely sad. I'm not phased at all by the trailer, but that's just because of seeing animated series get away with a LOT worse and the fact that I dislike the Cars franchise in general lol. It's not that you're heartless (and I love morbid jokes like that. XD) that makes me disagree with you, but the fact that McQueen's a car in and of itself.

Didn't know Pixar had hired Zack Snyder.
@Count:snip
I'd say people are more reacting to the tone and the intense contrast it has with the idiocy of Cars 2. People look at the lack of BGM, the greyscale and the way the sparks pop in comparison, and the dramatic slow motion, and see a teaser that has more in common with The Dark Knight Rises than Pixar's usual colorful, whimsical faire. It's presented as a traumatic event for McQueen, and it's compounded by the hint that he's gotten old and out of date. We can predict that a lot of the movie will have to do with rehabilitation and new meaning in life, but those are still significantly more mature themes than the goofy fish out of water stuff we've had so far. The Cars franchise in particular lacked a lot of emotional depth that Pixar's better movies have had, so seeing this sharp turn into darker, serious material is pretty surprising.

I acknowledged everything you said in my post. I agree that it's surprising and different in tone than what Cars is used to. And that it is presumably a traumatic event for McQueen. I'm just talking about how parents and critics are saying that this film will go as far as "traumatizing children" and is completely unsuitable for the audience demographic just because of the teaser being darker than we expected. That's just plain overreacting through and through just for deciding to focus on more mature themes that aren't even likely to be as deep as UP's intro in execution since I doubt the traditional lighthearted and cheesy humor/ambiance is gone at all outside of this and a perhaps a few other scenes. The description of the trailer even says he's going to get a new mechanic sidekick character whose eager and young with an ambitious plan to win. Besides maybe the chance of there being some inter-generational conflict there, it's pretty indicative that Cars is not going to take a 180 degree turn in its tone. Or 90, or even past 45 degrees. But if it does though, I would be pleasantly surprised and impressed.

I felt more genuine emotions watching cars 1 than i did watching inside out.
So i'm clearly not on the same emotional page as most Pixar viewers

To be fair, the whole accepting sadness message and human side plot line were pretty damn predictable (especially since I realized that same message myself several years ago) and generic (this moreso goes with the human plot line bit), so I don't blame you feeling that way.
Now if you said Cars 2, THAT would be interesting to hear about.

I don't think the movie will necessarily traumatize kids. But I know at least one kid where he gets frightened by very detailed 3D cartoons.
That said I don't think the whole movie will be that way. It's just an odd choice especially as a teaser movie for little kids. This isn't for kids who might see fast and the furious. Kids now have to wait a couple more months for a full trailer showing he at least is okay lol.
I picture a teaser trailer of Dora slow falling off a cliff and that monkey reaching out to her but seems out of reach no music a breathless gasp, rocks crumbling away. Dora the Explora: Descent. Coming to theaters May 5th 2017.

I know easily intimidated children as well. That's completely human. I just don't think it's fair to generalize that behavior for a whole demographic and place responsibility solely on the movie just for covering a mature topic despite probably having mellow execution. I'm talking purely from an aged parent/critic perspective since obviously many kids can get invested enough to actually wonder if McQueen died or not lol.
You did not just call Boots "that monkey". You also got me thinking about Dora crossing over with the horror movie series "The Descent" lol.

Brave Little Toaster really did have some messed up moments. Surely darker than the Cars crash.
[hide] Remember the controversy with the Air Conditioner? Some thought he commited suicide, others thought it was a rage induced 'heart attack'
Then there's the song Worthless scene, cars singing bout how now they worthless as they are destroyed and crushed into cubes.
"I can't take this sort of pressure, I must confess that one more dusty road would be a road too long" … one car sang was its picked up and put onto a belt heading to the press and when they come out as a cube others sing "Worthless". Another "I just can't seem to get started... don't have the heart to live in the fast lane, all that is past is gone."
That's more dark than McQueen having an accident."It's a B-Movie" seems a lot like the scene where Sids mangles the toys.

Other than the crash scene, I doubt Cars 3 is going to be very dark at all. The overall premise of the film is:
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game he will need the help of eager young female race technician Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Doc Hudson. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet, he will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage against his new rival, Jackson Storm.Little kids will probably forget about the trailer altogether and go see the movie simply because it's in the Cars franchise. It seems to me like this trailer is trying to lure adults back into this franchise, along with Cars 1's original fanbase. I was 7 when Cars 1 came out, basically the perfect age for it, and I was obsessed. But the film managed to age well for me because of its more adult scope that I didn't get as a kid, which made the debauchery that is Cars 2 feel like a slap in the face. As one of those original child fans, I'm excited for the prospect of Cars 3 possibly returning to its more personal themes that made Cars 1 pretty good. It'll have the same flashy racing and new car characters that kids will love and beg their parents to buy its merch, but if Pixar can return to the emotional root that Cars 2 lacked I will be on board as well.
The first full trailer will probably be much more light-hearted with some countryish rock song in the background
I have a feeling that this'll eventually get merged into the Pixar thread, but I do really like that we are talking about something more light-hearted for once (even though it's about a car crash)
-
well at least Cars 3 isn't the first time we've seen Owen Wilson crash and burn
-
Also, I find it interesting how a 50 second trailer was able to depict a more mature and gruesome scene of violence than Cars 2 which literally had cars killing each other with fake alternative fuel and a camera thingy, as well as the bomb plot in the movie's climax which was supposed to kill McQueen and Mater. So congratulations Cars 3, so far you've actually managed to surpass Cars 2 in 50 seconds, though that is hardly much of an achievement.

[SARCASM=]Yeah sure absolutely it will work like that[/SARCASM]
I don't believe Assad can anymore hold any realistic grip of rural parts of Syria, its major cities aside Damascus has been ravaged so bad that repairing all that infastructure will take decade.
Syria as nation has practically ceased to exist, whole area is huge Free For All with different militant group and extremists, even if Assad's (government) forces are gaining ground the opposing militants will further keep fracturing and it will be increasingly difficult to categorize different guerilla/terror groups roaming country side.
Even is ISIS will be 'wiped out' of the map whole movement will definetaly keep going but under different names.Kurd's have fought too hard and gained so much to be content with 'semi-autonomy' in corners of Syria and Iraq, they want their country that was denied from them since British divided whole Levant into artificial countries with artificial border lines what has caused major wars for whole past century.
TLDR; Assad might secure his position but he won't have any real control of Syria for a long time.
-

Way premature to say. The government is (somehow) getting a beating from ISIS around Palmyra. And they still haven't confronted the Kurdish forces. With the Turkish backed rebel incursion north of Aleppo being a whole other mess than the ones elsewhere.

What about the Shia jihadis fighting for Assad? I think they're winning in Aleppo here.
Or does the fact that Assad's army is mostly dead, and he's being propped up by Shia militas from Iraq, literally Hezbollah, and the theocratic Iranian state escape you. Because Russia is there, and PUTIN SEMPAI SO ARYAN~Also, ISIS, which Assad gets his ass kicked by every time his forces attempt to actually address them. But I don't think you knew that ISIS was a separate entity from the rebel groups.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also I know you're too young to remember Bilbo, but if the US could never truly calm down Iraq during our hellish occupation. lol at the idea that Syria's hodgepodge of Russians and Shia forces with Assad's skeleton army will succeed.
