Maybe Trump will actually be able to improve the job market? Fixing our roads and bridges is another major thing…
Indecision 2016 - In Soviet Russia, we elect american president!
-
-
And btw, I see tons of regret against Bernie for going against Hillary; info we got around here actually says Bernie got sabotaged by the Democrats so Hillary would win the primaries. Is that true?
It was no more rigged than this election was. Hillary won against Bernie by millions and millions of votes, he was never anywhere near her.
And that was without all his negatives being brought front and center for 6 months straight. Not that all of Trumps negatives seemed to matter… but we'll never know how differently he would have done.
Theoretical polls from 9 months ago that showed him doing better are meaningless. Our polls from August through yesterday showed Hillary in a landslide.
But we're apparently a lot more racists and sexist and old than we wanted to believe.
-
And all the lazy assholes that think improving the job market means cushy office jobs for them will be sorely mistaken.
In any case, I know what I need to do now. Nuke America in Civ V.

Couldn't sleep huh Robby?

Obama called trump no idea what was said. This country making him do that for this piece of crap sickens me
I can't sleep
-
But we're apparently a lot more racists and sexist and old than we wanted to believe.
I think it's clear at this point that vilifying people as racist and sexist has backfired. Obama gave a speech in Florida claiming that anyone voting against Hillary was sexist, but where did it get him?
-
One of the significant delusions of public opinions in both the Brexit and this election points out to the sampling flaws involved while taking polls. I guess the pollsters want to just show numbers without emphasizing on the demographics involved in it. A similar sort of false perception happened in my country too for a state election. Pollsters doing exit polls in urban areas skipping rural ones and making conclusions with their minimal sample sized data were fatal.
I still feel that the Brexit and this election are more out of anti-establishment anger rather than supporting racial and gender based hatred. Hilary and the EU stood for the establishment and absolutely nothing was going to deter against the democratic rebellion they could do. I am not ruling our racial and other types of hatred which might seem appealing to people to vote for someone but its just that Hilary seemed like the perfect alum out of the establishment that they have been steadily fed to hate through the years.
Note that anti-establishment musings have been happening in many countries and it will continue toppling governments which collectively ignore listening to the less powerful silent zones of the public
-
I think it's clear at this point that vilifying people as racist and sexist has backfired.
It's not villifying when its just facts though?
We have at least 50 million terrible people in our country.
You voted for Bush Jr or McCain or Romney, whatever. That's just politics. But this? This was something else entirely. This is whitelash.
-

Between the fact that Florida staying red was always a possibility I don't think that had
anything to do with Hillary losing it. I'm also curious as to whether Obama said that directly
which is unlikely as opposed to indirectly. -

Maybe, maybe not. It's still essentially name-calling that isn't actually going to attract people to the Democrats.
-
This is why we get people sending death threats to actors in Star Wars and Ghostbusters.

I understand Ghostbusters (Sony pissed people off by getting political), but Star Wars? What happened there?

well, concerning the talk about international exposure, the media in india(especially the english)are closely connected with the american left media outlets like cnn and others,so the reaction was mostly a crisis analysis, with mostly americans being brought in and the anchors just analysing stuff, esepcially with regards to what this means to india.afterwards they just resorted to just showing the US channels completely.
the hindi news channels are also the same, with less americans(obv because they are hindi channels)-general analysis and just wondering what went wrong.a lot of people seem to say that now that the campaigning is over, the compulsions of office will change and somewhat temper him.and also the relations with india will likely not be that different.
personally,i blame ISIS and the media
and while i don't outright support the ruling party,i think this is a moment where i can appreciate that we have Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister. -
It didn't help her win, though.
Of course thanks to Comey, Assange,Jason Chaffetz and millions of naive lazy people who think Trump is god's gift to man.
-
Maybe Trump will actually be able to improve the job market? Fixing our roads and bridges is another major thing…
If he wanted to help fix our roads he'd pay taxes like a true American.
I understand Ghostbusters (Sony pissed people off by getting political), but Star Wars? What happened there?
Black stormtrooper caused a stir during the trailers. Many thought the Troppers could only be white. Think they tried to excuse away their racism by citing that they were all clones of one guy so had to be white. (that may be true during first trilogy but no reason it could change later years) And would always be white. They didn't wait to see what the new politics of this future gen was.
-
If he wanted to help fix our roads he'd pay taxes like a true American.
Why would he need roads when can just hop in a plane or helicopter while everyone is stuck in traffic.

Australian here.
But I'm reminded of a saying from Lucky Number Slevin
"The first time someone calls you a horse you punch him on the nose, the second time someone calls you a horse you call him a jerk but the third time someone calls you a horse, well then perhaps it's time to go shopping for a saddle."
Can you imagine people who think they're moderates - never been a klansman - didn't yell at people to go back to their own country, constantly being lumped in with people who were - no matter how many times they tried to explain they supported moderate ideals but perhaps didn't feel comfortable with 1 or 2 things they were not on the whole a bad person they got told they were still a bad person.
Eventually they might just decide to stand with the bad people because at least there they're accepted.
-
Black stormtrooper caused a stir during the trailers
Oh, that…
I thought the controversy there was mostly about them changing canon established by George Lucas (all storm troopers are clones of one white guy) to place a token black guy in the story. Once it was established that Finn was a major character and not just a token, the controversy kind of died.
-
I just fear for what this'll do to your already rampant political circus. The rule book hasn't just gone out the window, its been hit with a tactical airstrike and then shat on. You can now say and do whatever the hell you please, act as nakedly horrible and shallow as you want, you can have no political clout whatsoever, and you can still become president.
Post factual age indeed.
-
I'm wondering how the war on terror will now progress. Does Trump immediately start screaming at ISIS to knock it off, or will he start zoning a wall around the middle east? God damn this clown car is going full gear.
I laughed during his speech as it cut to Christie giving a little thumbs up of "I made it folks, I'm with the other kiss-asses see!"
-
This is suprising in the worst possible way.
I was looking forward to seeing Trump's reaction to losing it all, and then after a few months him disappearing into nothingness.
This is… depressing. I'm not American, mind you, but this made me feel worse then when Fidesz won 3/4 majority in Hungary.
I mean, yeah sure, Orbán is a buffoon, but Trump is like a cartoon character whom we're supposed to laugh at, a caricature of something so obscene and crazy, it can't possibly exist. And yet... life writes the best (worst?) stories.
Addendum: I hope everything will be fine with all of you living in the USA. Stay strong!

I agree with this. The democratic side, even if it was only from the Hillary supporters and not Hillary herself, were just over and over again pushing in the idea of the straight white man being a bad thing and that kind of stuff isn't going to help you get voters. Like whatshername calling for killing all white men a little bit ago. Lumping her in with most Hillary supporters is as stupid as lumping all Trump supporters into a single group but on both sides we have this happening and it backfired for the democrats this time.
-
Have we already started sympathizing with the Trump voters? Good lord that was fast. I can see why he won.
-

No he won because his side wasn't alienating moderates - like or not - it happened in UK with Brexit - it happened in Australia with the Liberal party (Abbott and Turnbull) it's happening in European countries all over.
The second you start alienating moderates you're done no matter what - sure you might not like moderates because they don't take a stand on every issue or back some sensible policies. But when you start telling them to choose a side you better make sure your side is the one that accepts them for who they are warts and all because if your side doesn't the other side will.
-
Trump is basically going to be Bush 2.0 (well…technically...3.0), which isn't...that bad? He's also basically a populist.
Still can't stand his Vice President though, those views on LGBT are quite bad.

The deplorables comment probably did hurt Hilary quite a bit, not to mention the constant rag about her e-mails. Also. I think the rising premiums and shit related to Obamacare didn't help.

Worst part about a Trump president is those supporters of his who are, in fact, racist, coming out of the woodwork and feeling validated and correct. His supporters are the worst, his zealous supporters are the worst.

Worst is how he is gonna effect the world

Hillary Clinton is the definition of a moderate lol.
And Brexit, and Trump, happened because of racist (and sexist in the latter) backlash. When the Leavers said Brexit would be economically viable they were losing, when they said it would put a halt to immigration they won. And for weeks after there were racist incidents.
-
the left has to change and reinvent, that is the way liberals can still remain relevant.
like it or not, that's the truth.acting authoritatively and negatively is ultimately sel-harmful.
i say this as a left leaning and generally liberal person who is very worried about the changes in the left's relevancy -
Believe it or not, the thing that scares me about Trump the most is what he's probably NOT going to do about Climate Change and Global Warming.
He's been a denier/hoaxer in the past, pretty sure he hasn't changed on that position.

Hillary is a moderate whose supporters cried "racist!" and "sexist!" at her opponents until those words had no meaning. Anyone who was vilified during this election cycle has been in some way alienated, and if the Democrats want to regain power in 4 years they need to start admitting this mistake.
-

He's not going to nuke anyone, not even a Republican House, Senate and Congress will allow that.

I'm not denying that at all - And I am positive over there in the States you'll have people become even more bold with their racist attitudes in public thinking they have the support of the majority. And you'll have a bunch of moderates unhappy with them and being associated with them. That's going to be the best time to reach out to moderates and get them on your side - that's the time to look at the bigger picture and say "What are we willing to sacrifice to reach this".
Trump won - he played the game and he won - the important question you have to ask is do you want to contribute to him having a 2nd term by alienating moderates and swing voters further - or do you want to swallow some pride and reach out to them and convince them to come back. Because again the Moderates and Swing voters are what you have to appeal to and it's clear everything done this campaign didn't.

In two years, maybe people can get their shit together to win the Senate.

I wish you Americans the best of luck in the upcoming 4 years. My hope is that whatever regressions happen next will embolden the next wave of voters into voting for the right person.
And I'd like to say fuck my PM for supporting this turd but it's probably in the country's best interests that we maintain a diplomatic relationship.

Would Bernie have won against Trump?
As much as it pains me to say it… no. I think the damage was already done, and many of Hillary's supporters who worked so hard to alienate moderates would have been doing the same thing for Bernie.

I hate that guy too but he's not dumb. Maintaining good ties with US is important. Also everyone is doing the same thing.lol

Here's Colbert's response. And something we Americans all have to remember in the future. It's not the end of the world. We've had enough toxicity in this election cycle. Let's just take a step back and remember we're still in America, and regardless of political opinion, we shouldn't stay toxic to our kin.
-
As much as it pains me to say it… no. I think the damage was already done, and many of Hillary's supporters who worked so hard to alienate moderates would have been doing the same thing for Bernie.
Hate to say it but it's been happening world wide for a couple of years now with the left alienating moderates - never more so online people fell into echo-chambers that were very loud and they didn't hear what some people were trying to say or tell them - this is not a swipe at anyones core belief systems it's pure observation. Here in Australia we have seen people voting for people who 10 years ago would have been shunned because they're the only people listening and appealing to moderates.
But a couple of years back you had an exodus(not sure if massive or not) from these forums over similar issues where people were yelled at for being on a side and told they were not welcome here and mocked so they left. It's happened on social media platforms the world over that people became insular and stopped allowing someone to disagree and those who disagreed fought harder back than they should have and everything went nuclear.
Until we can find a way to disagree online without both giving and taking offence things like this are going to repeat.
-
As much as it pains me to say it… no. I think the damage was already done, and many of Hillary's supporters who worked so hard to alienate moderates would have been doing the same thing for Bernie.
I gotta disagree. During the primaries, he was polling much, much better against Trump than Clinton was. And on top of that Bernie doesn't have nearly as much controversy (deserved or not) surrounding him as Hillary. There wouldn't have been any Comey, or Wikileaks trying to sabotage him, and Trump wouldn't have been able to use his "I'm the only candidate who self-funded his own campaign!" or "Your husband is a misogynist and you helped him belittle those women!" schticks against Bernie. Trump had an infinite stockpile of ammunition to use against Hillary that he just wouldn't have had against Sanders.
-
Just the notion of shady government backings that seem to go against Democratic ideals (not the party, just Democracy in principle) by having the DNC impartially support one person is enough of a reason for me to be against said voter (though I still personally supported Hilary over Trump).
-
Eh, woke up, saw the news, facepalmed hard and got to work.
I shouldn't be surprised after the Brexit thing but I'm surprised. What's with the polls beforehand? Weren't they in favor for the democrats?
alienate moderates
What moderates do you mean? Every hint of common sense I have is a million times more alienated from Trump and his supporters than Hillary.
-
But it's not like Trump and his supporters don't alienate moderates either.
I really don't understand this anti-PC sort of movement. I mean, if someone calls you racist or sexist or any other ist, etc. I see it as call for clarification(if the person isn't angrily screaming at you, of course). If you can explain why they're wrong and where you're coming from, there is nothing to worry about. And these are very complex issues that not many people understand well and I understand it's a very negative issue and it's hard to be civil about it. But this looks to me like people get offended at people and the situation just worsens and I just don't get it.
