@Outerspec:
I love going to the movies on opening weekend just to be apart of the excited crowd and sharing their energy. It's electric, especially for a big long awaited opener.
True, I will admit some packed theaters are fun. Seeing Avengers on opening weekend was great, everyone was dying at Hulk vs. Loki. And there was a guy two rows ahead of me who would slowly nod anytime he approved of any good story/character development. The guy was pleased with that movie.
Midnight premieres, though, I don't think I'll ever do again. None of my friends have really enjoyed them either. I had a friend who went to one in a packed theater, and struggled to find a (good) empty seat. He found one, and asked the dude next to the open seat if it was taken. He said it wasn't, so cool beans. 5 minutes later, that same dude answered a phone call, said "yeah I can do that", then hung up and told my friend "nevermind, that seat actually is taken, my friend's on his way." Of course, they argue and some of the other moviegoers get involved, and the theater ushers had to get involved as well. Don't know how, but my friend eventually had to give up his seat, and the whole theater applauded as he got up and had to find a new place to sit. So he had to sit through a movie, in a crowd that celebrated him losing a fight he shouldn't have lost, really.
But the movie was Phantom Menace, so everyone lost that night.
@Satsuki:
Hah. You should have gone to the Princess and the Frog viewing I went to where the theater was packed with little girls in princess dresses.
Unless they were adorable and relatively quiet throughout, I would have nope'd right out of there.
