Fairy Failed AGAIN
Fairy Tail Series IV Discussion

Fairy Failed AGAIN
-
500 chapters of unwavering mediocrity
-
…
16 characters of "Yup".Yeah that was just disappointing. C'mon Mashima, you pulled the trigger on that Silver Make chick in Rave Master but can't do it here? Especially after all that drama. Just....seriously?
-
Knew it be the chapter straight after that Juvia was saved Hiro so predictable.
-
Well, I guess this was a little better than expected. I thought Mashima would have the first page being Juvia shown to be alive, but that wasn't till near the end. Beyond that, Bland Tail is bland.
-
Fairy Tail is just the pure definition of assembly line production. A totally monotonous, bland and uninspired by the numbers shonen as it gets.
And why are ppl still praising the artstyle, it's always the same old shit too. Nothing imaginative and inspiring when it comes to poses and fight choreography.
-

LMAO….Oh god. Half a chapter.
Congrats to you guys who truly know Mashima.
You get the prize of internet bragging rights. Although with this chapter....Nobody's a winner.
-
Why doesn't the Fairy Tail threads have its own funny subtitles?
According to Purple, "That would actually make me go to the Fairy Tail thread. No thanks. "

Because it´s "complete" I guess.
It doesn´t really have any big flaws, it´s decently original compared to the style that people always think of when mentioning Manga/Anime, and it´s complete, in the sense that it doesn´t really leave unfinished panels/backgrounds that you know end up like that because the author is lazy or wasn´t bothered to finish them.Maybe it´s not stellar, but it´s far from bad.

It because it's that, that it's still going. It's as basic as it gets, a jumping on point for manga newcomers. You'd be surprised how often I talk with people and them being intimidated by the likes of Naruto or One Piece. FT is one of those mangas that eases you into it. Don't mind the art style too much though, may go through the motions but least I can follow what's going on. Trust me, there are worst art styles out there.
-
Sure there are worse artstyles, and I am not saying its horrible, just that ppl make it ought to be grander than it is.
-
Predictable.
Boring.
Boilerplate.
Boobies.
Fairy Tail.
I respect your work ethic Mashima, but jesus christ on a cross you need fucking NUT UP and take some risks. Naruto looks like a masterpiece compared to THIS.
-
Naruto looks like a masterpiece compared to THIS.
If only Neiji had a god healer in his series
-
If only Neiji had a god healer in his series
Actually he had a god healer. Didn't help him unfortunately.
-
Ha. Called it!
end of internet brag
This whole mess is apparently Wendy's fault. She told nobody that she has revive magic.
-
see. this is why I say even naruto and bleach can't win against the amount of bullshit in FT.
-
You didn't get the drama but, in exchange, look at those boob shots and ass shots of the character that almost died! It's not drama, but who cares about that?
And those punch shots that have the dynamism of an old snail with severe aneurism?
If you want a definition of why Fairy Tail is so awful, look no further than this chapter.
-
When was the last time Fairy tail took a break?
-
@Bartholemew:
Actually he had a god healer. Didn't help him unfortunately.
he didn't have a Hiro Mashima, one who can help you cheat death
-
Fairy Fail strikes again! Nakama Bullshit powers and cheating death for the 100th time:getlost:
-
How can a fucking character can die and then revived in only one chapter. jajajaj amazing!
-
If only Neiji had a god healer in his series
Just another reason to as why sakura sucks so much, hell wendy is more useful, lol.
-
Why is Fairy Tail such a mess? What kind of war is this? Just like Brandish said, FT and their friends are outnumbered so why hasn't anyone died yet? What will Mashima pull out of his ass to turn this around? If the Spirggan 12 are truly as powerful as Brandish claims, why aren't they wiping the floor with the protagonists? Why are the Spriggan 12 so underwhelming and boring? Out of all the final organizations I have seen so far they must be the most underwhelming.
-
Naruto, bleach and ft, what is it with those series and their inability to make a really good WAR arc.
One piece marineford arc felt more war like and it was only a small battle compared to what probably awaits us by the end of the series.
-
Bleach and Naruto had the decency to make their wars seem like actual wars with some casualties on both sides. But this…this is just awful.
-
See, the trick is to realize how bad Mashima's writing really is; you can't underestimate somebody you have zero opinion of.
One piece marineford arc felt more war like and it was only a small battle comparing to what probably awaits us by the end of the series.
What's really impressive about Marineford when you stop and think about it is how the arc is pretty much handed over to a combination of: brand new characters, characters who were just introduced in the previous arc, characters who were previously introduced but had little to no screentime prior to Marineford, and former villains. Luffy is the only Straw Hat, didn't even appear at all for big chunks of the story line, and checked out fairly early at that.
-
Kishimoto, kubo and mashima are just not giving a f***, thats all. xD
Except fairy tail as being horrible all the time and let it wash over you weekly as a gently booby breeze.
-
It really is the ultimate dumb little boy manga. The solution to every challenge is to yell loudly and punch as hard as you can, nobody you care about will ever die, and all of the girls are sexy 100% of the time, no matter how beaten they get.
There's no creativity, no thoughtfulness, no depth. Just endless victory and boobs.
-
One Piece felt confusing and chaotic (in a good way), but it can´t be compared since it was just one battle. There really wasn´t any of point in locking characters into 1v1 battles in the middle of a battlefield like the others did (in order to close plots I guess), and that helped a lot.
It´s hard to pick which did it worse.
Bleach didn´t felt like a war, it had the exact same structure as any other of the arcs, so… yeah... Bleach.
Fairy Tail just feels really "clean". No confusion or chaos. Just beat hordes of fodders and proceed to fight the levels boss.
Naruto´s... I guess it´s problem was it´s longevity. The fact that Kishi felt like he had to give every single character, even the ones no one cares about (Mifune? Really?), screentime, made the entire thing really boring after a while. + "revive everyone" is such a cheap plot device to give characters clousure on stuff.
But at least it tried to look like a war. We had multiple battles and insight into strategies. We even saw the barracks where the wounded were being tended. That´s more than Bleach and certainly more than FT. -
yellsYou're underestimating Fairy Tail punch.
-
This chapter really showed how Natsu really only thinks about Fairy Tail. All the other guilds are fighting in this as well, knowing that if Alvarez wins their home is screwed as well. Not only that we actually have some panels dedicated to Sabertooth fighting as well, reminding us how this conflict is for more than just Fairy Tail. However, screw that, because as Natsu put it they are underestimating Fairy Tail. It will be Fairy Tail that stops all this and if they weren't around the continent would be screwed. Sure, that probably wasn't the intention but the fact that Natsu only specified that Fairy Tail is being underestimated makes it seem that way.
-
That actually reminds me of something I hated in Naruto's war: despite it being a war involving all the countries, it was centered around Naruto, Sasuke and the leaf village. It completely ruins the immersion.
That's one of the areas where One Piece has always been strong. It's not all about the strawhats. During Marineford Luffy didn't amount to much more than a random pirate entering the fray. The rest of the strawhats weren't even there. And we got to see how other characters reacted, from Coby breaking down to the citizens of various countries being terrified of the outcome. Even in Dressrosa, even though Luffy was hailed as a hero it was also about the freedom of a country, the citizens and cleaning up the reputation of the royal family.
-
OP is pretty rare it seems in shonen world building. HxH did it too. I get that there's things the authors are probably excited to write about, but the world should be a part of that too especially if you're going beyond 10 years…hell even 5.
FT just has nothing about the world that feels like a complete setting. We only ever hear about mage guilds...like 4 of them. We don't really know any non mages. How common is magic cancer? Have we seen rgeular armies from the good guys?
-
Wait, the spoiler wasn't a good indication of the real chapter. What is even happening? :wassat:
See, if Mashima kept it to just punching Ice Face, then this'd be a great chapter. There's nothing here that really even indicates he's celebrating this landmark. Grey beats a dude, Natsu gives a nakama speech, the most disappointing thing happens, and jobbers are jobbing.
I'm also disappointed Brandish's magic got negated because someone was "enhanced." I guess that's the only way you can beat an ability like that, but this feels lazy.
-
Every single bad guy in the entire series has been nothing but a strawman with the word "strong" hastily scrawled on it in an attempt to make knocking them down seem meaningful. They have absolutely no substance behind their any of their hype and bluster.

Mashima did say at one point that he never intended to do any world building and that the whole series was never supposed to go past the phantom lord arc.
And it shows. It really really shows.
-
I know its petty of me to hate on somebody elses success, but I really do despise Mashima.
These Spriggan 12 with all their hype being meaningless, even Brandish hyping them in the same chapter and then a couple pages later we see some of them get BTFO.
Invel completely destroys Gray last chapter. Gray gets mad, somehow overpowers Invel, Invel goes into super powered form, yet Gray still beats him…..with 1 fucking punch. Oh and apparently he absorbed the Ice from invel in order to use that attack? Why the fuck can't Invel just do the same? Why are the Spriggan 12 such fucking glass cannons?
Brandish being the dumb bitch she is trying to play both sides. I mean its one thing to have a character who questions their actions, but its another thing to constantly make the side you stand for worse off because you refuse to finish off your enemies. Also love the fact that shes probably been in numerous battles for her country, and never once gave a damn about questioning doing what her country wanted her to do, but only now when she has to go against Fairy Tail, she has the nerve to tell August to THINK FOR YOURSELF! You never had a problem following commands before, why start now? Why would you think you are even right? Oh wait, because its against Fairy Tail.
Brandish can't use her magic against this Enchanted form of Jobberhart for some random reason. But Natsu has no problem in his Base Form knocking his ass out.
And don't even get me started on Juvia not being dead for even 1 fucking chapter. God.
-
Mashima is a shit writer but you have to acknowledge the man's guts. Nope I'm not talking about 2 decent drawn chapters per week on occasions.
I'm talking about how he admitted that he "might be not that good at story-telling and remember plot points." and then straight up proceed to do nothing to improve that and stay within his comfort zone. At this point he even have the bravery to develop everything backwards on purpose. A giant fuck you to anyone expecting anything from him. He's drawing children books, what the hell do you want? What do you mean characters can't be revived next chapter? Don't you play Final Fantasy it's called Phoenix downs. -
Naruto for all of it's flaws actually killed characters. Jiraya, the Third Hokage, Asuma, Neji all stayed dead and their death led to character and story development. Even with the Edo Tensei (which was thankfully explained early in the story, though probably overused) there was legit character death.
It is simply amazing that the old master in Fairy Tail is still alive. He and Gildarts should have died ages ago.
-
Congratulations everyone that guessed correctly.
-

Maybe I don't remember it all too well, but I thought Eligor was kinda awesome.
He was manhandling Natsu with his wind magic, all up until Natsu got mad and started destroying railroad tracks out of anger. And Eligor recognized it's Flame of Emotion magic and it's making Natsu's flames hotter. And so the heat cancelled out the wind and Eligor was beaten.
Fights were so much better during early FT, dammit.

It also doesn't help that Mashima very early stated openly how less shit he will give about his world. Like, there are a lot of different countries, but he'll give his best to never include them in any way.
-
Apparently, someone tried to justify Juvia's revival and maybe the one-shot advantage the FT members suddenly gets in this chapter: the magic tree from Tenrou Island was warped close by thanks to Irene's Universe One. Whoever granted the FT crest gets protected by it and whatnot.
Still stupid though.
-
The guy who justified that is one hell of a fan. If only Mashima thought of that.
Fights were always shit in FT and the creative ones were like one out of ten even in those old days.
Jesus I can't believe I was a beaming kid excited about the first episode of this crapfest back then. -
I just have to remind myself these are mages. I don't think I've seen a magic series have fights get reduced to so much punching before.
Imagine Sailor Moon just uppercutting someone lol.
-
If only Mashima thought of that.
He kind of did but considering it was stupid kind of explanation, I've voted to ignore it. In short, Irene accidentally moved FT's power-up island close by, powering them up in exchange of teleporting Acnologia away. It's a mildly elaborate kind of asspull with flavor of stupid coincidence.
-
It's not more stupid than usual shonen plot. She changed the geography so Zeref could be close to fairy wathever and achnologia would be to far to screw things up. It's not she is suppose to know about the tree or have total control over how things were mixed up.
-
I assume Irene did know about that fact (because why not) and consider it still within her margin of error, as the ongoing hype is that 12 Spriggoons are unstoppable either way when banded together (lol). That's more in-line with how FT villains behave in general.
-
Damn, I dropped the series in the early grand magic games after having too much, I can't believe it's this bad now.
Apparently Juvia was supposed to be dead, but got revived next chapter? Is there any other shit that's going on that's bad?
-

One Piece has one of the greatest world-buildings in fiction so it's really not a big surprise.

Gajeel supposedly died and came back a few chapters later.
Lucy lost Aquarius' key, but Aquarius then came back without it, saved Lucy, and now she's gone again.
Natsu got a magic cancer tumor. It was healed the next chapter.
One of the most powerful villains in the series, who has a pretty cool power, was taken out by sneezing and then she became a friend. Of course, she was put in jail and bound up first.
Ultear came back to save some people and then she's gone again.
Natsu is E.N.D. and I think he's Zeref's brother or something? I never understood exactly how it went, but they're related somehow.
Mavis is aliveThats what I can think of on top of my head. I promise you there's more.

If neither of them died, then the chain wouldn't have been broken, the twist is that Grey was the one who momentarely died, and Juvia saved him.
