Having still 35% of the story left, i wonder how much the final saga (finding OP, BB fight and the final war) will take of this space. In the beginning Oda said it´s about a quarter of the overall story, when he still thought it would only last a few years. So i would estimate it at least being 10-15% of the story. Wano and the Kaidou war will also take a significant amount of the story, maybe less than the final saga, but around 7.5-10%.The current arc with Totland i assume won´t be that long, but still going against an emperor for the first time should also take 3-5%. The Reverie is also approaching right before or after Wano, which doesn´t have to be that long, depends how the SHs may or may not be involved - 2-3% maybe. That leaves us with around 10% of the overall story that we´re still more or less in the dark about.
Knowing how many enemies are still around and at least Elbaf coming for sure (also pretty likely Shanks being involved in some bigger shit later on), Oda seems to have not that much room left to fiddle about with his ideas of islands and stuff. Just imagine how many open plot threads he has still to address, no wonder he combines his ideas already^^
Oda's Interviews

- There are too many things Oda wants to draw, so he merges the themes of islands. For example, Punk Hazard is originally consisted of fire island and ice island.Dressrosa is originally consisted of dwarves island and passion island. But as opposed to his expectations, it took him twice the time than usual to draw these arcs.
Does he mean that Dressrosa and Green Bit were actually two different islands(meaning arcs) at first? Because honestly it seems to me like dwarves were shoehorned in this arc just so Oda can deal with them quickly and save time. The "merging" didn't really work out; the arc was dragged, bloated and it was generally a mess.

I'd say yes! Though I love the dwarves and Green Bit!

Well, I loved it too, but I can't stop thinking how it would have been if Green Bit and Dressrosa were different arcs. You know, we could have seen a lot more of Green Bit, and not just a scene with the forest, and the dwarves below.Maybe that way, it could have been shorter, and perhaps a good saga apart from Dressrosa, which would have been shorter and more epic.

Like before, i would not get so hung up on the estimation. 4 years ago, Oda´s estimation was 60%. Considering we had approx 690 chapters back then, that would end up being approx 1150 chapters upon conclusion. Now he says it is 65% done with 830 chapters, which ends up being approx 1280 chapters in the end. I would not be surprised if it ends up being 1400-1500 chapters. I agree though, my guess is that we will not see much unpredictable stuff, meaning completely new stuff. There is also still Vegapunk to deal with.

(Why is line break disabled here? There is something wrong with the forum right now.)
Been that way for weeks. Been mentioned in topics where moderators visit and post too so I'm assuming it's intentional for some reason. But using the html line break code works.
-
I'd say yes! Though I love the dwarves and Green Bit!
They helped make my boi Usopp into a god of legends! Those dwarves deserve all the love.
-
Thanks a bunch, Sandman! Damn, sure hope Oda get through this in One Piece (harr harr harr). I can see myself still buying this manga in 10 years if it keeps its current pace. Here's hoping him trimming/giving up ideas won't result in a messy story.

No, it's not intentional.

What does that mean?
This.
While it's easy enough to brush off a few sleepless nights with a pot of coffee and the occasional desk-nap, you may be doing more harm than you realize. According to a new study from Surrey University, snagging less than six hours of sleep per night can actually shut down genes that play a key role in the body's process of self-repair.
We rely on our genes to constantly produce the proteins needed to reverse the wear on our bodies' tissue that we incur throughout the day. But when scientists divided 26 volunteers into two groups—one of which slept for less than 6 hours per night for an entire week and the other for ten hours per night— some of the sleep-deprived group's genes actually stopped working.
The function of 711 genes in total were altered in some way, specifically ones involved in metabolism, inflammation, immunity, and stress. There is some good news, though: a week of normal sleep was enough to restore the malfunctioning genes back to peak condition, but should the unhealthy sleep patterns continue, health problems that aren't quite so easily reversible, like obesity and heart disease, have a high chance of cropping up. And this study only scratches the surface, according to Professor Colin Smith, one of the scientists involved in the study:
"This is only a week of sleep restriction and it is only five and a half or six hours a night. Many people have that amount of sleep for weeks, months and maybe even years so we have no idea how much worse it might be."Oda's getting sick to the point of hospitalization probably because of this.
-
Oh man. If these studies are 100% correct, then Oda's definitely not as healthy as we think he is. I really wouldn't mind it if One Piece was a monthly series from now on or if he took a break off the series (it worked wonders for Togashi). I'm really worried and scared for Oda.

@The:

He asked us not to worry, so don't worry. ;)

That working like that is doable, was shown by other mangakas before him, but Oda shouldn´t take it too lightely obviously and we all know that for his fans he goes to extremes. We can be at least sure that other people close to him still have also an eye on him. After all they got him so far to take a break each month. Oda seems to be the type of person who would die for his masterwork, so i think even by forcing on him more breaks, he would still work and think about it anyways. Let´s just hope such a mastermind has the wits to stop/slow it down when necessary, especially for his family.
I think a perfect opportunity to take another longer break would be after the wano arc and before the final saga (when no other TS happens before that), i hope he takes those opportunities to load his batteries again before finishing his masterpiece^^ -
Oda's long interview was revealed in a TV show today.
-
Oda says ONE PIECE is about 70% done. (He said in another recent interview that ONE PIECE was 65% done, though…)
-
When Oda held a Takoyaki party in his house, he was reported to police by his neighbors.
-
Oda says he doesn't need diversion since he has to submit manga anyway before the deadline.
-
The new setting notebook about ONE PIECE is produced almost every 3 weeks.
Here are another trivias revealed in ONE PIECE Great Newspaper Vol.2. and Kinema Junpou 2016 summer edition
-
Oda decided to work with ONE PIECE Film because it was a good opportunity to increase his audience in manga.
The series is more than 80 volumes, so he thinks it might be difficult for some people to start reading ONE PIECE.
Oda also says that if he should realize in the future that ONE PIECE Film doesn't play an important role to increase his audience in manga, he would not work with films anymore. -
According to the former anime producer, when ONE PIECE anime was relegated to a morning TV show, Oda complained a bit, "I've already made much effort, though..."
- About this week's (Chapter 833) color spread, Oda predicted last December that he would like to draw Straw Hats watching fireworks since he was impressed at the fireworks in one of his favorite mangas "Your Lie in April".

According to Volume 777 written by Oda,
-
Spandine's political power is weakening due to his disease. Spandam intends to cure him so that Spandam can surpass Lucci.
-
Vice Admiral Chaton and Fujitora are friends. Chaton is popular among citizens despite him not being popular in Marine.
He loves beautiful women. His real name is Tokikake. -
Tsuru treats Vice Admiral Momousagi as if she is Tsuru's little sister. Momousagi can seduce various kinds of pirates.
Her famous sword is called Konpira (金毘羅). She has a spider tattoo on her thigh. Her real name is Gion. -
The average height of Giants is 12-13 meters. Oars in Thriller Bark is about 3 times higher than normal Giants.
-
Oda writes the conversation between Sabo and Lucci:
Sabo: Bye, Bob!
Lucci: I'm Rob.[EDIT]
- Lucci is a chief commander of CP0 now!

According to the pamphlet of Film Gold and the official guidebook "Backstage Pass":
-
There are sexy scenes in Film Gold, but Oda recently pays attention to his target audience's mothers since he thinks it is mainly mothers who bother to take their kids to theaters.
Oda is worried that sexy scenes might make bad impressions on their mothers. -
Oda doesn't like men wearing white outfits.
-
Question: What would you do if you had vast amount of money?
Oda: I already have it, so… -
Oda doesn't want his characters to appear in film before manga. For example, Aokiji after time skip made an appearance in the film before manga.
Oda is disappointed with those situations since he thinks he could have surprised his audience if he let him appear in manga before the film.

Yeah, I said in an older post that I don't know what to think, I know that was the reason, but still…Well, if Oda doesn't shows us some arcs, I hope we later see them, let it be in movies, anime or manga specials after the end of One Piece.
-
Thanks for the summary sandman :)
And I hope they leave Oda alone with their movies from now on. He seems fed up with them anyway. As far as I know he even had to design the characters for the Gold TV special.
-
Thanks a lot Sandman
-
If 65 % done is the truth, One Piece will last roughly 1300 (1280) chapters. Thats roughly 11 years of One Piece if Oda maintain his current pace. It's good to hear that Oda is choosing to limit his imagination in order to finish One Piece at a more reasonable pace. Personally, I feel Dressrosa would've been better if he made a better effort to follow this statement, but meh, it wasn't too bad.
-
Thanks sandman!@sandman:
- Lucci is a chief commander of CP0 now!
Does it mean that he's the leader of CP0 (like Dragon for the RA) or his rank is similar to "Chief of Staff" (Sabo)?
-
So much Lucci's hype, I wonder if someone trained him.
-
Thanks for the summary sandman :)And I hope they leave Oda alone with their movies from now on. He seems fed up with them anyway. As far as I know he even had to design the characters for the Gold TV special.
Yes and I don't like what I read…it really seems that he is worried about the audience in his manga. He don't work for pleasure with the movies but to increase the audience of the manga :-/ (I remember an interview after the first film in which he said he would never do it again, he was too tired).
-
Interesting info about Oda. Thanks so much for the summaries Sandman.
-
Thanks sandman!Does it mean that he's the leader of CP0 (like Dragon for the RA) or his rank is similar to "Chief of Staff" (Sabo)?
Im thinking he is one of the top guys but probably not #1
-
Yeah this is what i cannot figure out either. How the fuk Luffy is going to beat him because his fighting style doesn't seem suited to a guy that literally is invulnerable to all physical damage. He's like that Kelly Funk guy by a million times stronger…But he has been beaten 7 times so.....i expect on more than 1 occasion Whitebeard probably handed him a defeat....As for the interview, onl 65%? wow. I agree with him saying he needs to be brave oin not using all his ideas, his ideas are awesome but it seems if he uses all of them it'll add even more years to story. Once all is said and done, i think he can finally enjoy a nice long rest with his family. Though i dread the day one piece finally comes to an end....i also hope i live to see that day
The way i read the manga, Kaido lost those times by foolishly trying to fight entire armies(marines, other pirates) by himself. Remember the line, "in a one on one ALWAYS bet on Kaido". Which implies the brute saw the 3 marine admirals + a bunch of VAs and probably thought "i am kaido!!" And just blindly attacked them. Jack also has this ridiculous mentality of not giving a damn about who they're fighting.
-
Kaido also probably wasn't born as the strongest creature. After several defeats he might have come back as the monster he is know for.
People changes over time. Sometimes for the better and sometimes…well...they become Moria.
-

And then sometimes, after being kicked in the teeth twice, they return to their former glory.
! Moriah will be back as a bad ass; mark my word….. EDIT: On another note, I like the idea of Jack being Whitebeard's estranged biological son (which means Newgate got it on with a fishman lady) who felt Kaidou's world view was more in line with his than his father's. It baseless, but it sounds cool.
-

Just curious, but I wonder, why so much confidence in Moria? I mean no harm in my question.

hahahaha so Oda is now rich because of OP that one makes me happy. Thanks for the translation Sandman :D
-
As expected, Oda knows exactly what the final panel of One Piece will be.
Also, concerning the 65% thing,
that means roughly 44 or 45 more volumes :DAnd since the series has been running since 1997, it's gonna have a 30th birthday before it ends. Insanity.
-
@The:
Just curious, but I wonder, why so much confidence in Moria? I mean no harm in my question.
Truthfully, I have no substantiation for my claim. I'm just thinking that just as Don Chinjao's drill was wrecked by Garp and then returned to it former glory, Luffy's defeat of Moriah will (somehow) have similar effects.
-

I see. So I'm guessing you think after losing to Luffy (and I'm guessing losing his fight against Jinbei) and coming close to death by Mingo, Moria will finally get off his lazy rear end and train himself and his DF power to get stronger and make a reappearance (somehow), am I right?
If so, then I support this all the way. I was so blinded by how much I hate his voice that I forgot that Moria used to be one tough pirate before Kaidou wrecked him badly and killed his old crew. I'd think it would be awesome to see a newly transformed Moria after the timeskip.

Thanks for the link.
Actually Oda talked more besides my summary about the TV show, but I didn't mention it since I thought many people have already known them. If someone is interested, here is the rest of the summary.-
ONE PIECE was inspired by the anime "Vicky the Viking" Oda watched in his childhood. He likes especially the scene in which the protagonist kid says "I'm going to set out to sea with my father!"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vicky_the_Viking -
Oda made a resolution to draw Pirate Manga when he was in junior high school.
-
An editor taught Oda about how to draw a good manga when Oda was 17 years old.
-
When Oda started ONE PIECE, he was going to finish it in 5 years.
According to another interview, his plan was like,
All crewmates join before Grand Line. (1- 1.5 year)
Great adventure (3 years)
Final arc (1 year)"source: Sound Recording (2012)
-
Oda doesn't know for sure why ONE PIECE has become so popular. He goes so far as to call it a "miracle". He thinks Strong World in 2009 might have been the turning point.
-
One of his main target audience is Oda himself when he was a boy (around 15 years old).
[EDIT]
Here is Oda's interview in a smartphone app called "My Jump" (Myジャンプ), which was released yesterday. It seems this app basically requires a monthly fee.
http://www.myjump.jp/[hide]
[/hide]Q. When/why did you start reading Weekly Shonen Jump?Oda: I started reading Jump in fourth grader. There is no particular reason for shonens to read Jump. It's nothing special.
Q. Which manga impressed you most?
Oda: Hokuto Hyakuretsuken in "Fist of the North Star" surprised me since it blew up human's body.[hide]
[/hide]My favorite character in "Fist of the North Star" is Rei. I liked him so much that I quit reading it when he made his exit from manga,Q. What influenced you in Jump?
Oda: All mangas I read in my childhood are related to all of my memories. I remember how I felt about scenes in each manga. They are my precious memories and data.
Q. Could you send a message to My Jump app?
Oda: I hope you will add more lineups since there are many mangas I want to re-read.
At the end of the interview, Oda selected 10 mangas he wants to re-read/read in the future.

I know this is just details, but I've watched his interview on Youtube with subtitles and it said he's at 70%. A 5% difference, but still…just wanted to be sure if 65% or 70% is true. Thanks again for all the info guys!

You do realize that Oda himself is just coming up with a number right? It isn't 65 or 70%. It's just 2/3s done, about. That's all that quote tells us. The percentage is pretty meaningless.I'm pretty excited to see Elbaf myself because it is theoretically the only island with enough military power to keep out an invading pirate crew even as strong as the yonkous. I mean, even the fodder warriors are still very strong by human standards and an entire country filled with battle worshipping giants would be too much even for a yonkou. There's probably several wiper/kyros type giants who are stronger than normal and even the king himself may be extremely powerful. I really can't see a country like that under the command of a yonkou and its the reason why it near the end of the grand line, that country has very few things to worry about. The only yonkou i can see them being alinged with is Shanks because of their love for feasts and parties and shanks gives me a vikings feeling himself.

The 70% came from the TV interview you watched.65% was from the One Piece Newspaper that was published a while earlier than that. Both percentages were given by Oda himself, so yeah, he's only got a general idea of how long the rest of his story's gonna last.
