On what? That he's happy and has a family and doing what he wants? Gohan doesn't want to be a fighter, never wanted, was the only martial artist out of need of all of the main cast.

Get hyped
-
Am I the only one thinking that maybe Goku won't be the only "black" character and that the other fallen Z warriors will get an evil version as well.
Of course everyone bar Vegeta… He will get a "white" one instead LOL
-
His sword will be as useless as a screen door in a submarine….Just like guns.
-
Depends, if Trunks gets a GodSlayer sword without being bullshit(Like Nanao in Bleach) then he can be useful vs Black Goku..
-
Only 2 ways Future Trunks becomes useful is either Plot Device or a Crash Course done by Whis or Vegeta or Goku in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber or Whis's Staff
-
Well they did say the swords effectiveness basically comes from how strong the user is back when Future Trunks fought king cold but realistically that shits not gonna get any real play lol.
-
black/evil goku is from champa's universe he came to earth to fuse with goku but he is dead in this time line so he goes back in time with future trunks to try and fuse with goku while he is still alive same reason cell went back in time to fuse with 17 and 18!

Trunks and Goten should be able to learn to go ssgod with training from whis since they don't need a tail to go ssgod and they already can do ss3 in fused form.
ss4 actually needed a tail so it's good that it's not canon to the story. -
So I think I'm finally going to get around to buying the entire Dragon Ball manga set. Anyone have any suggestions as for which English releases would be the best to get? (as far as I know, there's the regular volumes, the 3-in-1 editions, and the Vizbig edtions)

Vizbig is the highest quality paper, solid cover stock, best size, has color pages (but not every color page) and best overall price, and it actually paces out the collections properly to transition from regular to Z. if you're starting from scratch that's the way to go. It's the bet archive format and what I've been considering buying, even though I already own all the old ones.
Just be warned, editing error led to the first printing (and thus a toooon of copies) of the first volume to use some of the edited pages… but if you don't care about the tiny circles that are Bulma's nipples it's fine. (ANd it clearly was a legit mistake since they left in lil' Goku's package.) I have yet to find a copy that's unedited, but supposedly they were going to fix that on second printing.
3-in-1 may be slightly cheaper, and does show Bulma's boobs, but the quality isn't as high.
And there's no reason at all to buy the original format now unless you just really have to have it in the original 42 volume format and feel like paying 2 or 3 times the overall price. (Also, there were the original bigger volumes from like 20 years ago.... but those only got through Frieza. The "standard" manga size reprinted everything and is what you would find now.) I guess the overall bulk of the volumes might make them slightly easier to hold and read.
-
Dunno why… But I'm really hyped for this arc.
So curious how they will explain Black "Goku" and how this arc will play out... How will Black be able to get into the main timeline as well or if not... how will the others go in the future

Thanks for the advice. I've done a little research and, yeah, while I guess it's not a perfect release, it looks like Vizbig is the way for me to go.

There's also the color reprint editions, but screw those. I don't think they've done all of them yet and the coloring is just… not great.
-
! The preview wasn't trolling.
-
! >! Goku Black….
! Damn -
Black Goku isn't fucking around…

hopefully the sub shows up soon so I can watch

the sub takes longer than the one piece sub takes to come out you're better off checking tomorrow instead of all day you can still watch the raw but it's mostly talking in this episode.

Tate Naoki did some nice animation throughout the episode. Tomioka Atsuhiro (head writer of Pokemon since Diamond & Pearl) wrote the episode, his first for the Dragon Ball franchise. Kakudou Hiroyuki (series director of Digimon Adventure) was the storyboard artist. Kakudou has been storyboarding a lot for this series and his storyboards have been some of the best. Hamano Yuu'ichi and Character Designer Yamamuro Tadayoshi contributed new animation for the opening.
Chioka Kimitoshi is no longer credited as series director. Chioka storyboarded the first third or so of Dragon Ball Z: Kami to Kami but has otherwise not acted as episode director or storyboard artist. Hatano Morio began being credited as series director as of Episode #33, even taking the credit as top credited series director. Before taking on the role of series director of Dragon Ball Super Chioka had been a prolific storyboard artist for Toei Animation cartoons, even up to just before the premier of Dragon Ball Super. Ever since Episode #33 I've suspected that Chioka was leaving the series, possibly to direct a new film for release in 2017. Remember, the last two films were announced in early July of 2012 and 2014. Next month is July 2016, which means we might be on the cusp of an announcement. The only other alternative that seems likely is that, like Sakai Munehisa of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Crystal fame before him, Chioka Kimitoshi is leaving Toei Animation now that he has completed his run on his project from Hell.

Damn it… Black is awesome and Trunks is really has a fucked up life.
But who is this green Kaioshin? So hyped!
-

Since we are dealing with a time-travel related arc
The Green Kaioshin may be Related to The Supreme Kai of Time from Xenoverse in some form
Or
He may be connected to Black's Creation or something that involves Black
-
You know what strange… Similar as with OPM I'm more hyped for Super's next episode as for OPs chapter... Even if the center of the arc is Sanji.
What is wrong with me?
PS
Still you are my numero 1 Sanji -
This is future Trunks. Not the gay version they did now for stupid kids. This is not Dragon Ball anymore. No blood, no scars, no epic and the pace is very very bad.
-
Are you saying the Trunks from that image does not look gay? And so what if he is?
-
That post is just as bad as the wrestling fans in Youtube comments who go "YOU SAY CM PUNK, I SAY GODFATHER. I MISS THE ATTITUDE ERA THUMBS UP IF U AGREE."
On a related note though I'm actually really excited for this arc. Loved this episode and I'm really interested to see just who/what Black is. It has to be connected to the new Kai in the opening right? Saw some theories floating around that this is Goten from another universe but I'd really rather not go down that path.

The Goten theory makes no sense… So just forget them

Yes, because blood and scars and epicness are truly the are the only things that Dragonball has ever been about, and it has never been aimed at kids in the past, and it has never in it's history had bad or awkward pacing before.
-
I liked how he uses a picture from a non canonical movie to make his point.
-
Nope, never ever has Dragonball suffered from bad pacing in the past.
Nor has it ever been the slightest bit goofy.
-
Lol so Trunks hasn't been hitting the gym as hard… I see no real issue here.

Do u realize Mirai Trunks was eating cat food for 8 years? Thats more screwed up than the past of any strawhats

Good riddance, he sucked as the series director, ever since he left Super has improved.

The best dragging I have ever seen was the Namek stuff… Really in the anime it was so awful... 5 minutes before the damn planet explodes... 10 episodes later and 100 Bulma panels later... Shit is still going on
-
So 'Future Trunks' pretty much exists just to suffer?
I feel bad for him. First everyone gets killed by androids, including his teacher & best friend Gohan. Then he goes off to the past to fight Cell. First he trains years in a space of nothingness with his father who won't even talk to him and later he dies. However, why not bring this guy back to life again to make him suffer a little more? He returns home, just to find another dark future ahead of him where his mom dies right in front of his eyes and he has to eat catfood.
I don't even want to imagine how seriously messed up this guy would be irl.
-
Yeah, the mood shifts in this episode were really jarring. Happy happy joy joy here, intense tragedy there. If those constant sudden dissonances were on purpose for making me uncomfortable the director has succeded.
Also, lol at the guy complaining about Trunks. This is pure Toriyama canon look, cause we saw him like that the last time, when he kicked the other Cell's ass.
-
I guess we're to assume Trunks going Ascended Super Saiyan (or maybe just regular super saiyan) isn't a strong enough powerup to take on BLACK Goku?
-
The good old days when Roshi would do the Karate Kid Style Training.
-
I'm not one of those "oh Dragon Ball Super sucks DBZ was more mature and epic!11" people. The funny part about it is that the only reason why DBZ felt more serious is because the bloated pacing added more stares and punches to make the show look serious.
It's true. When you read the original manga - or even watch Dragon Ball Kai - you'll see that the show has a lot of gags all the time, especially in the early android saga.
On a side note ….
I will say that Dragon Ball Super is really reminding me of One Piece. The whole "main villain looks like a joke/funny" thing is one of the most used gags in One Piece:
Don't get me wrong, One Piece obviously took inspiration from DBZ, and DBZ did those same jokes with Buu, and a little bit with Vegeta's height - but the frequency of the jokes has been increased tenfold.
If there's anything I hate aboud DBS, it's that characters like Videl are just empty.
And I guess I would like a Frieza style arc (in terms of tone) at some point, along with more memorable fights.

Piccolo was about the only major villain in the series that was played completely straight for his entire run in the comic. Freeza had some goofy reactions to the Ginyu Force and his tail getting bit, Cell had "The Slap", and Majin Buu, was, well, Majin Buu.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
! So this whole deal has to do with the destroyed Universes right?
! That Green Kaioshin has fused all of the Gokus from those and is planning on getting the remaining ones to make a being that can kill the Omni-King? -

Chioka isn't at fault for a series receiving no staff or time with only two months of pre-production time, especially given he's one of Toei's best directors. He was screwed over by Morishita Kouzou and the members of the production committee not caring about creating a quality project.
Dragon Ball Super has been an exercise in assigning a lot of good main staff to a series with no pre-production time or resources.
-
The good old days when Roshi would do the Karate Kid Style Training.
I don't recall Mr.Miyagi making Daniel find attractive girls to bring back to his house or travel the world on foot:ninja:.
-
! I was really hoping Mai would come back in time, especially as she is in the opening and advert card. Trunks acting like an idiot caused her to die for no reason.
-
Everyone looks like an idiot in front of Black
-
So I just began watching episode 47, only seen the prologue so far, but I can already say that the background music is better than everything before
I mean it's not great or anything, but at least it sounds foreboding and ominous -
! I was really hoping Mai would come back in time, especially as she is in the opening and advert card. Trunks acting like an idiot caused her to die for no reason.
! best guess is she will be revived with Dragonballs at some point since the Namek & Super Dragonballs still exist in Future Trunks Timeline or maybe trunks will do some thing Heroic and OmniKing will be like "i Will Revive Your Mom & Girlfriend since your timeline is already crappy enough where you eat Dog & Cat Food"
-
Considering that cats are sentient people in DB's world, that's just canned meat.
-
I hope Black Goku doesn't look like Goku, "Just because."
I hate when series do that.
"Huh? There is no connection between them whatsoever, we just made them look like twins just cause."
-_-

Yeah, like Turles. I doubt they would do that again, not to mention Toriyama and other promotional stuff called him "Goku Black", it must be for a reason.
-
He's also referred to as just "Black". Goku seems to just be a form he's taken.
-
I have no doubt it is just a "Goku form" and not Goku went evil.
Still really nice looking at an evil looking Goku. And I love the outfit… Sunday can't come soon enough
