@jazzflower92:
And the fact that people are using the word "bigot" is really just making this issue black and white, when it's much more complex and there are some real darn good issues with what is being layed out.
Because the bigots who write these laws to hurt us are being very obvious about the fact that it's meant to hurt trans people.
Case in point:
@jazzflower92:
The fact is this goes beyond bathrooms to the point it's practically mandating that people who identify as trans be allowed to stay use lockerooms, bathrooms, and even stay in sleeping quarters with the gender they identify with.
This statement from you seems to imply that Bathrooms don't concern you as much as Locker Rooms and other such facilities. This kinda makes sense since properly updated and maintained Public bathrooms always have privacy stalls, at least in the women's room.
So, if "Real" Trans people aren't the concern as much as these supposed perverts or anything, why are Bathrooms an issue? Why are they included in these Anti-trans laws? Why don't you ever see that middle-ground bill that says "Well, since Bathrooms have privacy stalls, they are ok for Trans people, but Locker Rooms are a no go"?
Also, for that matter, why do most of these bills single out "Birth Certificates" or "Genitals" As the big deciding factor in this?
Gender Affirmative Surgery, as in the "Final" Surgery" costs about $30,000.
Most states, especially the ones trying to pass these laws make it so you can't get your Birth Certificate changed until you get that surgery too, meaning it costs $30,000 to pee in public I guess.
Why require THAT much to stop some hypothetical perverts?
My Drivers license says "Female". Know how much that cost me? I had to go to a therapist for at least 3 months, get a letter from her diagnosing me and sending me to a General Practice doctor who put me on body-altering hormones. Then I had to be on those for an entire year, during which I got quarterly blood tests, IE the doctor would have known if I was faking it and not taking the pills, so I REALLY had to take the body-altering pills.
Then, after this, I got a letter from both the therapist and the Doctor saying I was trans "For reals guise" which I had to take to a judge and pay $350, then convince the judge I was trans, who signed off on a legal name change and Gender marker change. Then I had to wait at the Social Security Office and DMV to get it changed.
All said and done, cost me about 1 year, convincing no less than 3 professionals and then paying, at absolute Most, $1000 if you have to pay for your meds and dcotor appointments.
Why is THAT not good enough? AT least to use the Bathrooms? I think after all of that, I've proved I'm actually a trans person and not some pervert. Why the hell is that not good enough? Why do they HAVE to go as far as to make it about Birth Certificates and Genitals and somtimes even chromisomes?!?!
I'm not saying making it based on your I.D./Drivers license is the PERFECT solution or anything as there are plenty of trans folk less fortunate than me who can't do that yet, and this wouldn't be a great solution for them, but it would at LEAST seem to be an attempt at a middle ground solution. It would at least feel like it wasn't necessarily the blatant attack on trans people it so obviously is.
Because really, that's what this is. It's not to "Protect" anyone. It's to attack trans people plain and simple. It's motivated out of hate and bigotry, not out of facts or compassion, or concern for anyone.
Seriously tho, This is what I look like:

What bathroom do I belong in?
