I actually had forgotten we had quarters representing the 50 states and now I'm curious as to why we have
them. They just seemed to be made purely for novelties sake and little else.
Because it actually made people interested in quarters! Interested! Int he physical form of money.
And it feels pretty neat when you gt your home state.
Beyond that, they got in on the collectible card game. Some people went out and bought all 50 quarters, for more than their 25 cent price, as collector's items.
Really it's nice just to have changes of pace.
We really do need to get rid of the penny, and to colorize our dollars like everyone else in the world does though. I've been in Canada for over half a year now, and having no pennies (and the rounding up or down on bills) is great. Now it's nickels that are the anoying shelf hog I can't get rid of. And the plastic dollars that all look different and have cool hologram and transparency stuff in them? Nice! The regular use of the one and two dollar coins is pretty fantastic as well.
