The Fine Bros are really hurt. First thing that happened was that they announced "React World" which is part of program that they were going to use to license to other users who wanted to use their react format, as well as they trademarked their series and the word "react." This went up in flames as Youtube and the rest of the internet mauled them, and they have since lost one million subscribers. Not long after they tried to explain to the internet in a seemingly poor way about how exactly their program was going to work in a video that is no longer available on Youtube, the Fine Bros in the end have posted an apology, as well as announcing that they are backtracking on pretty much everything they were trying to do with their "React World" program as well as rescinding the trademarks for the react series and the word "react." That being said, their subscriber count still continues to fall, who knows what it will be by the end of the week.
Fine Bros React Trademark Debacle

What on earth are you talking about.

@Monkey:
What on earth are you talking about.
the Fine brothers, of YouTube fame, were trying to get trademark rights to the term "React", which basically is videos of people watching other videos and their reactions to them. this trademark thing meant, that if you want to do react video, you had to pay them for rights to do it. of course this action didn't go so well for everyone and they rebelled.

@Monkey:

It's a Youtube thing.
They're pretty big on Youtube with over 13 million subscribers and that translates into popularity. Frankly, they did something stupid and announced plans to trademark the word "react". If they did that then any other Youtube content creator using the word "react" in their video title or possibly doing a "reaction video" might run afoul of their trademark. Even though they said they wouldn't be evil nitpicky corporate bastards with the trademark, if they got it, the internet blew up at them. They backed off and that's about it.

Sony just tried to trademark "Let's Play" as in the term that almost everyone uses when they post vids of themselves playing games on YouTube. Thank god some game savy lawyer caught it

That's ridiculous considering there really was a specific pair or so of guys who coined the phrase and popularized the trend.

To be fair Sony are just one in a long list of companies that have tried to do that and I think they wanted to use it as a slogan similar to their "For the players" thing, I don't think it was as dirty as what the Fine bros were doing.
-
I was looking for a thread to talk about this… well here it is I guess.
Their subs are falling quite quickly. As a comparison before the "React World" they were at about 14 1xx xxx + subs, and they're 13 772 000 now. ouch.
)
(this video illustrates it well :
(and look at what I've found : http://www.livecounts.x10host.com/?channel=finebrothers)
Seems like they've taken down their "Special announcement !" and "Update." videos. Best thing to do at this point.Aaand I was looking for a video that resumed the situation very well (it was some sort of reaction video that had 60k views) but it has been taken down too.
-
This is what happens when you think too high about your channel or yourself. My big problem with reaction videos is that, almost every channel just watch the video and say things like "oh, this is funny, oh, this is sad, ETC", without showing actual own content. Sometimes is the bare minimum of what a person can do to show own content.

This generally sums it up.

I actually just found out about him today, and have now gone through a bunch of his videos. He will now be watched regularly!

This isn't a debacle, this is a schadenfruede party
-
I had no idea who these guys were before this… I guess I'm just out of touch.
-
-
They deserve every bit of backlash they got. This was a very stupid and greedy move and they knew it, but almost went ahead with it anyway.
As many people over Twitter have already said, the damage has been done.
Too bad they'll only lose half a million subs from this at best :/
-
Meh. I'm only interested in PkSparkssDeathtones' reaction anyway.
And sometimes Ekila…And rarely MaximilianDood. -

h3h3 and IHE fans in this forums ? Wow..This made my day. :) Now, I want some sincere opinions, what is your opinion on reaction videos ? Do you think is a valid original content or just a excuse to get views with other people content ?
-
Wow, what an awful decision on their part. o_O
I can understand that they certainly popularized reaction videos, but how do they think that they own the concept? It's like saying Michelle Phan owns makeup tutorials because she's the most famous for it, or Pewdiepie owns video game commentary videos :s
What a stupid thing they've done, I wonder how all the hundreds of people they've worked with and featured on their videos will REACT to this.
-
-
I'm a really big Fine Bros. React fan in general, so I was really disappointed to see them do this. What a fail.
-
This guy has a very fair response to the whole debacle
-
How is nobody posting Mega64's teardown of that video?
-

they always seemed kinda bottom barrel content to me so i never watched, but i at least knew that it was a thing that existed
-
The fact that a ton of their diehard fans are/were trying to pass this whole thing off as a "misunderstanding" or "overreacting"..
You guys do fully understand what almost happened right? lol
The Mega64's video is fucking beautiful BTW. xD
-
react videos are terrible and they should feel terrible
Not for scamming people, but just for popularizing the format
-

Oh, come on, at least they are better than those
softcore pornprank channels. :ninja: -
But but, it's just a prank bro!
-
I actually like watching the fine bros react video. At least they put in some effort compare to some other awful react channels that i won't mention. I'm never watching their videos again.
While I like IHE's videos (His search for the worst movie & I hate__ series), he's kinda a hypocrite. He criticised Fine bros for their react video but ge also has some react video on his channel that have the barest minimum effort… -
@Galaxy:
But but, it's just a prank bro!
Those are fun videos but not for the reasons the "prank"sters think.
Basically I enjoy watching obnoxious frat dudes get beat up after randomly annoying people.
-
a fine reaction
-
Prankster With Invariably Dead Eyes: Yo wadup youtube, this is deeznuts34 and today I'm going into the ghetto to prank people by slapping them across the face.
is beaten into a pulp by five dudes
Me: This is good shit. -
Gotta wonder what possessed those dolts to go public with that video before their trademark application for the 'react' was approved. Another 3-4 weeks and they would have been golden and YouTuber's would have really been screwed. They really shot themselves in the foot, haha.
-

They'd already applied for trademarks for a range of variations on the React theme and they'd been granted without an outcry. Basically they mistook the lack of complaints for tacit approval though it was more a case where people just weren't aware of the earlier moves. If they had been, there's no way people are as put out about it as this is an obvious next step on the Fine Bros. part from the earlier ones.

@Mr.:
Too bad they'll only lose half a million subs from this at best :/
Losing 500k subs is quite of a big deal (and they could actually lose more than that since they've lost like 400k already and it's still going down).
They'll get them back, surely, and its absolutely normal since people make mistakes, and then get to repair them. That's how life is.
The Fine Bros. have already deleted the announcement, meaning that they understood that they messed up and won't try such things again in the future. May this be a lesson for not only them but other Youtubers that would potentially want to screw their fans around. -
Too bad that their project won't come true. Personally i thought it was a pretty fun idea.
I would have loved to see a Swedish version of the same format. Or just any other nations (With subs)

tut tut

But yeah they'll easily get it all back.
-
funny thing is, the best way to kill the Fine Bros as a channel is to create more and more react videos until the market becomes overly saturated and they A: no longer stand out or B: people finally get sick of seeing it
-
What I wonder is what's going to happen to their Youtuber's React series. They have a react series where they invite fellow Youtubers to react to videos, but how many will decline now that they did this stupid thing?
-
I'm very sure none of them will decline. The Fine Bros still have over 10 million subscribers and those youtubers still want the exposure they can get. As far as we know, Fine bros may even have contracts with some of these youtubers which make it impossible to say no.'
