film 6 was amazing because it didn't look like the other films. The animation is beautiful.
One Piece Film Gold (July 2016)

Assistant director of Film 6 is the main director for Film GOLD? YESSSS!!!
Sadly, it's "just" as assistant director but it's still great news and is a great sign of the potential quality of the film. While he might do some standout sequences I wonder if the decision to make him assistant might be because Toei is having a stronger slant towards more on-model art and animation as seen in the last two major films (Strong World and Z) over heavy stylization. An attempt to reign in his artistic excesses if you will. Then again, it could just be nothing.
The type of style used in Movie 6 is risky, but his direction makes it work where it counts.
-
I think you misunderstood. He was assistant director for movie 6. He's the main director for this movie.
Also, movie 6 is my favorite.
-
I'm kinda glad Oda isn't writing this movie, will be nice seeing a newer movie written out of Oda's style though of course Im sure Oda has to approve the stuff so it won't be too non-one piece-like
-
We can except a lot of great sakugas for sure. But sadly, Film Gold won't have a style like M6. For example, sakuga wise they have to keep characters on model, and that's also Oda's requirement (this can be found in his early interviews).

The script writer of M10 and M12 weren't Oda either. However, if the script isn't what Oda wants it to be, he will ask to have a change. This can also be found in earlier interviews.

Miyamoto was the assistant director of M6, but during that time he was just a newbie. And what's much more important is that he was the SD of One Piece TV anime for 6 years, and that's why they let him to be the film director, just like they let Sakai (the 2nd SD) to be the director of SW.
The best way to know more about Miyamoto's style is to watch some episodes of which he was the episode director, especially the episodes after he became the SD, such as #483.

So what would be the difference between Oda's involvement in Film Z and this one?

I personally think there won't be too many differences. But for the time being we are not sure if Oda will offer a story outline just like what he did in Film Z.
-
Sure, too bad the art didn't look like One Piece at all.
That was kind of a plus I think. The fluidity of the animation and the artstyle given to it looked fantastic together. Ultimately, I would prefer the artstyle of Z with the animation quality of movie 6. Ryo Onishi accomplished this with his cuts in Strong World, but obviously he can't animate entire films.
-
I actually rewatched Baron Omatsuri recently and it's not really as enjoyable as I remembered from my last viewing.
The art direction and animation was still wonderful and everything, but until the last 20 minutes or so, the plot is very by-the-numbers for a one piece movie.
Forget looking like a One Piece movie. It really doesn't feel like One Piece, which is the kind of the same thought I had when I watched it the first and second time.Besides that, it's still a very good movie in its own right that every anime fan should watch, if not for the visual experience and soundtrack alone.

Yeah, I felt the same, the enemy feels more like a Sailor Moon Villain or something like that, and there was plenty of OOCness…
When I first watched it, yeah, I enjoyed it, but after FIlm Z and witnessing the quality of "on model" animation and it being "on character" is a plus.
For me movie 4 is more like an Adventure and more like "One Piece" in their first, early days when everything was new and the grand line was this big unexplored sea,

Oh boy. In that case, expectations should be very high for this one. At least on a purely visual stand-point.
Weird mistake on my part. I always assumed he dirrection Baron Omatsuri.

Well as expected, given the past two films and how much more marketing muscle was devoted to them, Hosoda's off-model tendencies will be reigned in for the next installment. Though there's much more to his direction than whether or not it stays on model, so expectations should be high.
Essentially, these franchises tend to shy away from more artistically inclined writer/directors in the fear that they will end up with their equivalent of Urusei Yatsura: Beatiful Dreamer. The sort of film that may gather high critical praise but would otherwise alienate or heavily divide the fanbase to the extent that it will hurt the box office. As unusual as Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island is, it's certainly no Beautiful Dreamer in that regard. Or even most of those UY films, which don't often feel like they belong in the same universe (for better or worse)
It really doesn't feel like One Piece, which is the kind of the same thought I had when I watched it the first and second time.
That's precisely why it gets the attention it does, in that it tries to make itself distinct from the mainline series. It has its own separate tone and isn't too worried about being entirely faithful to the main franchise.
Some viewers would kinda prefer if these sorts of franchise films, which can be numerous (and is in OP's case), were more animator/director driven since those sorts of more experimental enterprises can deviate from a film series that can easily find itself in a formulaic rut. While Strong World and Z are better than the average One Piece film, I should hope that Gold doesn't try to follow too closely to their beats to avoid major deja vu. Whether the results are good are an entirely matter altogether, but the important thing is (ideally) delivering an new and fresh experience each time.
Not to say I consider Baron Omatsuri to be all that much of a deviation. Only visually. As you say, the script doesn't really deviate much from the status quo. Though as far as One Piece films go, Baron Omatsuri is the most experimental in comparison to the others.

@DIO:
so…
One Piece Film Gold...
would kinda like maybe the Main Movie Villian to be Female but chnace of happening is like Never going to happen
i would like the Film Outfits to maybe have a Gold & Black color motif but hopefully something cool for the guys & something sexy for nami & Robin
I'm kinda hopin we get the reverse and have something cool for Nami and Robin and have something sexy for the guys lol.
-
I'm pretty sure Oda wrote the script for Strong World but not Film Z. Though it's been over five years since I've watched through any of the movies prior to Strong World, I do remember Baron Omatsuri being my favorite of them all, so the director news is nice to hear.
-

Or at the very least, something that I can take seriously for Nami and Robin, lol
because I don't mind fanservice stuff, but it gets old when it happens all the time.

At least Film Z was self-aware enough to parody it with Brook. That might have been the funniest part in the whole thing, actually.
-
Since now it's the new world i am expecting that each strawhats will meet up an ennemy that will push them hard, movies always put Luffy under the spotlight with a midstrong antagonist, aside of strong world but can you tell Shiki's men were strong to begin with against Zoro and Sanji…. as for Film Z well Z was hella strong but the fight end up being marine vs Z, i wish for plot twist, those you are not waiting for.
-
I'm hoping to be in Japan in July, and since the pre-sale tickets go live on the 18th, I was wondering if I could get some help purchasing them by someone who knows Japanese. I have several other questions, so some help would be appreciated
Excited for the film. I'm assuming a pirate from Roger's era will play an important role.
-
If the villain of the movie is as well written and likeable as Zephyr then i'll be satisfied.
Edit: Oh shit the director of this film is the assistant director of movie 6… Now i am actually pumped for this movie.
-
I'm not sure if this is the subtitle, but the sentence below the title says, "It is the power that reigns the world".
!
-
I didn't like movie 6 that much. It had a good start, but then…
and there was plenty of OOCness…
-
The power that reign the world. Does it refer to a devil fruit? Or a powerful weapon? Or maybe an empire like organization ready to challenge WG but in the end fucked up by SH and whoever help them in this movie?
-
Ι think it's a moto or a quote from the main antagonist
something like what takes for someone to be a leader/monarch/king
"it is the power (someone or you have) that reigns the world"
-
The announcement page has also been updated with a pretty neat animation.
-
Love how the text is imprinted onto the golden background.

He wrote the story of SW but not the script.

The power that reigns the world…wealth? Maybe that's where the "Gold" comes from.
-
My deduction from the title is that the enemy is going to be someone with the Gold Gold fruit. KING MIDAS!!!

I wonder if we will see a version of Golden Rifle, maybe Giant Golden Rifle or something.

-
Is that Sentomaru? :ninja:
Thanks Ping
-
For me, this guy, looks like a World Noble.
-
Any translation?
-
Cave man Luffy?

Luffy's look is referred to as "Kintaro Luffy".

He's probably the main villain.

I don't think that the main villain will have this small preview and not a whole page
-
Since Strong World they are putting Luffy in weird costumes. And with some big ass accessory.
-
That guy looks like Senor Pink's older brother.
-
Luffy's look is referred to as "Kintaro Luffy".
http://onepiecepodcast.com/2015/12/11/one-piece-film-gold-design-sneak-peak/Yes, that is definitely the classic "Kintaro" look they gave Luffy. It's a folkish character that is somewhat the basis of Sentomaru (him being introduced with pacifista Kumas at his command is no coincidence) and has shown up in many other anime/manga series such as Urusei Yatsura
!
Now the question is whether Luffy will be wrestling a bear in this movie or how close to the hilt the Movie will play in regards to the tradition tale. Or if this is a one-off look Luffy dons because the pun is too good to pass up. For those that didn't read the article or aren't aware, Kintaro also means "Golden Boy" in Japanese.
-
@S.C.:
That guy looks like Senor Pink's older brother.
Senor Pink was my first thought, too.
-
This movie reminds me New Super Mario Bros 2 for some reason.
-
I hope Kintaro Luffy is an early outfit and not the featured one. I prefer my Strawhats dressed classy, thank you very much.
-
Come on guys, that's clearly Sakazuki's younger yakuza brother. Apparently the boys like a red rose matching their suits.
-
HQ scan.
-
He kinda reminds me of Sheepshead
-
He looks like Franky. Maybe Franky's dad?
-
He looks like Spandine, or maybe Gasparde. Awfully plain design for the main villain, if that's what he is.
-
He looks lame next to Shiki and Z, thats for sure.

I thought we were all assuming he was until proven the contrary?
