I hope that Burgess in that bag has a megasuper machinery that lets him extract devil fruit powers from his victims. It's very unlikely that Sabo will ever lose the mera mera, but i would like him breaking up for losing that small glimpse of Ace's power and seeing it falling on enemies hands
Chapter 786 : Gatz

Most of the arc ends with something big starting the next one.
I wonder what it will be this time.
I still say CP0 is around, and Dofla is too big to end his stuff with this arc. -
Apparently this thread is "Everybody Hates Sabo". I do think him and Burgess coming to a clash instead of a kick to the face would have been better. However it showcases the trademark arrogance of the BB pirates (ie BB vs Magellan). I think people are forgetting Sabo is number 2 in an organization that directly opposes the WG. Number two in the marines (not including commander and chief) is the Admirals (not saying Sabo is on that level) but he should pretty damn powerful. He's treating JB like Marco got treated by Kizaru, or Jozu and Aokiji. I hope they have a few on panel clashes in between the final Dofla/Luffy-gladiators fight.
-
How are you sounding similar to him? No real basis of disliking characters other than they looked funny at characters you have a personal bias for.
Sabo jumps out of nowhere "I call bullshit, the manner in which he jumped out of nowhere is a problem"Lol, you're so blinded by your own snark that you continue to miss one of Robzillas core points.
Sabos sudden reappearance was lame because it is a tired overdone trope that could be seen coming from a mile away. Like Natsu beating up some dude while yelling about friendship, or a Bleach mystery foot, its not that it doesn't make sense in-story, its that its predictable and generic in terms of writing. But please, do continue to talk about how there couldn't possibly be any real reason for disliking Sabo or the way he's written, and that liking Burgess over Sabo is "childish"
Burgess is a cool character and all but your argument of him being eos level antagonist is really hanging by a thread here since Sabo is treating him like fodder this early in the New world, oh wait that's exactly your problem isn't it, the fact that he's being shown to be weak at the hands of an overpowered "cocky" revolutionary who should have withheld his comeback for another arc instead of messing with a BB character you really like lol. Childish stuff.
Maybe the fact that the BB pirates all but have the official "endgame antagonist" badges means that people would like them to be displayed as competent threats, to give them credibility before their upcoming face-offs with the Straw hats??
Naaaaaaahhh, that can't possibly be it, must be because we're blinded by insanely disproportionate Burgess Love

@Daz:
Lesse here, this is really quite a marvel.
You criticise Rob for "hating" on Sabo for "no tangible reason". This is done despite his repeated explanation of very tangible reasons: he dislikes the tired last-minute-save trope, and feel that Sabos mary-sue hype is unbalanced compared to Burgess performance. These things rooted in his subjective opinions of importance and writing preferences, but they are tangible, easily understood reasons.
Yet before you discredit Robs subjective opinion, you say:
Which is pretty much 100% subjective opinion, especially the last bit, based on your own viewpoint that the BB pirates aren't the important endgame opponents that 99% of the fanbase sees them at.
In other words, you base your derogatory tone and snide comments on other people having "untangible reasoning" on equally subjective, untangible reasoning. unless you somehow believe that your opinions are "more correct" and "more objective", in which case, do share.
Finally, the cherry on the cake is the "you're sounding like Darth!!" angle. In other words, you're pretty trying to shame Robzilla out of his arguments by comparing him to another, controversial, poster "hey dude, I compare you to darth, you don't wanna be like Darth do you, so stop posting lol". How quaint.
I sincerely hope this isn't going to become a forum shorthand: If someone has a viewpoint you disagree with, and dares to argue this viewpoint with you over several posts, you can just reply with a condendenscending "you're pulling a Darth!" and instantly discredit the opposing poster.
Yes, it will become a common feature if someone expresses their opinion in a vague manner, just because what is said is understandable doesn't make it a reasonable point to reiterate over and over to the point of annoyance. The Sabo bashing should be met equally with the Burgess bashing for balance's sake.

The Sabo fans are having a field day with this while the Burgess section is left with nothing yet again. A shame as I'd choose to be part of the latter if asked.

Burgess comes tumbling down a huge hill and is instantly where Luffy is at but you seem to have no issues with his sudden emergence. I don't like Sabo because he's an awful idea. Luffy's secret brother that everyone thought was dead but wasn't, who's super powerful, and a number two to Dragon who has Ace's fruit.
Eurgh. Is there a problem with that?

I was really hoping that the drawback for using gear 4 would be that Luffy's skin turned all loose and he became a wrinkly old man for a couple of minutes. The "I've run out of haki" reason is pretty lame.
Also this one cover page was better than the entirety of Jinbei's cover story. Looking back on it that cover story was really boring, even worse than Caribou's.

Have to agree with your bolded point. I was groaning about the scene even before we saw it.
Also, very off-topic, I had to crack a smile at the name of the title "GATZ" and then see "DAZ" right below it as the most recent poster. I'm weird like that.

A lot of the fan base had a feeling he was alive based on Ivankov's reaction to the individual they Brought onto the boat so hardly a revelation, was a matter of when and not if. Luffy's entire family is OP by the looks of it I suppose you dislike Garp and Dragon too then? Like when Dragon saved Luffy's ass against Smoker, that was random too no? I don't mind people disliking Sabo but wanting Burgess to hold his own against Sabo and disliking him based on him being stronger than Burgess by a country mile is a little much.

Oh, I knew there was no chance he was dead in the flashback. Doesn't mean I have to like Luffy getting a brother 500 chapters into OP that hadn't been mentioned before. If you had told me about Sabo during, say, the Impel Down Arc, I would have thought it bad fan-fiction. Totally incomparable to Dragon and Garp appearing before we even entered the Grandline.
-
so dofla will be somehow impeded to attack luffy, and we already know that luffy will manage to recover
do you think this is what will happen? isn't it too much predictable and diminish the pathos of the fight?
i want dofla to be fearsome and land some heavy attack, not just watch and defend like he's been doing for most of the fight in the last chapters -
Like when Dragon saved Luffy's ass against Smoker, that was random too no?
I don't mind people disliking Sabo but wanting Burgess to hold his own against Sabo and disliking him based on him being stronger than Burgess by a country mile is a little much. The sad thing is that you still don't get that Burgess hasn't been displayed as much weaker than Sabo.
Oda has still managed to protect Burgess to a degree, as he should.
The annoying thing is that when push comes to shove, Sabo keeps getting the half wins over Burgess, and it'd be nice to have things evened up occasionally.
Sabo's "victories" have been either ultimately flashy but not super effective things (destroying Burgess' gauntlet, sucker piping him in this chapter) or outsmarting him rather than overcoming him physically (destroying the arena floor).
-
@Nex:
Actually, Robin's not with everyone else. She was missing in that panel showing all of them last week.
Robin was in the chapter last week actually, bottom of page 12:
!
Cavendish gave her his coat, in case you can't recognise her chest.

I think people are just becoming tired of the whole luffy family being overpowered.
Its always here comes luffy to save the day. Now its here comes Sabo to save the day. This arc would have ended perfectly if Burgess ate the mera mera, preventing Ace 2.0 from happening, Strawhats just destroyed the factory making Kaido mad and forcing Doflamingo and his crew to flee dressrosa and leaving doffy's crew in the future to deal with. Doffys crew had so much potential and was just wasted.

He's not even his real brother, just a sworn brother (or childhood friend) that's like saying when Luffy's Mother appears several hundred chapters later despite any references to her prior that it will be bad fan fiction too. Writers are allowed to introduce family members at a later date it's not unheard of and it can be done in a way that makes sense.

Can i join too?
I know that later on villains will be more dangerous and all of that (since we are entering yonkos territory and such), but since now we are in the early new world we just have to endure this introduction to it, where good guys are awesome and strong and do all kinds of magic tricks with barely any injury (except if you're Law, i really like how he went from the mary sue in Punk Hazard to an actual character that struggles now). Hopefully we will get what Moriah said about the new world soon enough (since you know, we're only in the first actual island).

I agree with wasted potential but you also see that because they grew comfortable with their lifestyles under Doffy they grew obese (and in some cases old as hell) that added to their detriment, they looked like world beaters in Corazon flashback.
-
please just end this arc
i can´t take it anymore

Eh, no. Everyone has a mother. So when she appears- if she appears- it won't be surprising.
-
I don't think their fight will be finished anyway.
But I'd love to see Burgess do some serious damage to Sabo. -
Eh, no. Everyone has a mother. So when she appears- if she appears- it won't be surprising.
and everyone, I hope, has a childhood friend they care(d) about.

They should have still been world beaters, to me Doflamingo could have been a future Yonko with the way he had set up 4 different armies instead of just the typical division commander thing. People need to remember that doflamingo broke out of Aokiji's ice in an instant the same as whitebeard did.
-
Since we all know that Sabo wasn't dead and since we all know that he had always been stronger than Luffy, it's pretty obvious that he was going to show up to save his ass one day. Especially since he wasn't there for Ace, he had to made it up to Luffy in a similar heroic manner.
While it makes sense for Sabo to confront Burgess when he was chilling on the palace, it also makes sense to up the pressure a little by doing this little trope. Even if Sabo is strong, he is against a fired up Doffy and yonkou commander.
-
Burgess what a pussy trying to come in for the kill steal
-
and everyone, I hope, has a childhood friend they care(d) about.
He's not just a childhood friend though. He's Luffy's blood-brother. Everything that Luffy did for Ace, he would do for Sabo. He's one of the most important figures in Luffy's life.
And not once did Luffy even think about him before the time skip.
-
I actually don't get the Sabo hate. I am sorry, but the reasons from what I am reading right now being what??? He is stealing other characters' spotlight?
I sometimes want to post more on this forum to get involved, but some of this negative atmosphere and constant criticism of minute things that always happen in manga is absurd. Oda writes manga comics, originally aimed at 15 year old boys from what I have read. I know I am right but correct me if you incline to. So, when you put things into perspective, this bickering is useless unless we are all 15 or under. Luckily, Oda does the least amount of generic manga plot devices from other writers, but he is Japanese and lives in Japan, with Japanese people influencing him. He is not here to write Breaking Bad or Cowboy Bebop. His writing is mediocre at best (still better than others in his field). Come on, how many times do you read these phrases:
"Stop him at all costs",
"[person's name] is still alive?! How?"
"We are all going to die, save us [Hero's name]"
"It's no use" (Reminds me of Game Grumps playing Sonic 06 - Watch it cause it's funny)
"I am putting an end to this"
"I will defeat you at any cost"
"You killed my family"
"My powers do this because [reasons]"And so on. Manga writing is just full of exposition and that's it. There are the parts where writers use other cultures' lores to implement it into their characters and story, but a lot of times it's just that with no real depth or reason. It's just cool they did that. Please don't justify the quality of SHONEN mangas to quality of the best tv shows ever made. They are miles apart when it comes to writing. Or maybe the English translation is vastly inferior and somehow their language is way more intricate leaving us with only those phrases -__- I am not even going to mention the power levels, deus ex machina moments, and convenient physics.
AND STILL, I LOVE One Piece, even though I watched The Sopranos, BB, Six Feet Under (watching it right now), True Detective, Band of Brothers, Dexter (Seasons 1-4) and some others. IT DOESN'T TAKE ITSELF TOO SERIOUSLY!!! It's why I can't stand American superheroes because they try to implement them into the real world and it just doesn't work really despite their box office success and fandom, but that's the way I view it and I can't prove I am the only one right. I have my criticisms too with the danger aspect being introduced (okay? Go on Oda?) and not being satisfied time and time again (If you introduce it then you have to deal with it properly). However, that's not the point of the story and it's supposed to be gritty and realistic, so I deal with it just like I dealt with all the other possibly plot breaking moments in One Piece. Also did I mention that it's a Shonen?
You guys actually ruined this chapter for me (Now I set myself for "Oh boo hoo cry baby, go home to your mommy but don't spread your snot, tears and slobber all over this forum" :p). I totally loved it and I wanted to see people's reaction to this, but I didn't expect mixed feelings and complaints. It sucks cause I know that the other forums are the same. I am not surprised when people criticise One Piece fans for being spoiled, cause we definitely seem to be. Or maybe it's the effect of other mangas' BS we had to deal with before and don't want the same thing.
I don't know guys, help me out on this one.
-
Can I join the Jesus fan club? I hope from here on out every arc will have 1 random BB crew member lol

OP is the best Shonen I have read. As such, I hold Oda to high standards. And this chapter fell short for me. And I just don't like Sabo. Sorry, but that's my reaction to it.

That makes a brief appearance only to go AWOL until the final 10ish chapters of the arc

How are they blood brothers other than by exchange of sake? Why would Luffy think about a brother if they were presumed dead and Luffy never thought about Ace once until he physically made an appearance when he was chasing after BB.
-
That makes a brief appearance only to go AWOL until the final 10ish chapters of the arc
There should be a poll to see which BB crew member the forum would like to see the most.
-
So Luffy isn't strong enough to beat Doflamingo alone, after all.
I doubt he will use gear fourth in this fight again. Either he uses something different or someone else will finish Doflamingo off.
Now the question is: how many panels will Doflamingo need to finish the whole mob? -
I don't get it either. For example everyone got used to or even loved the T.D. "I'm so cool it hurts“ Law, but Sabo is a nono, is „Mr. Cool“, „Ace 2.0“ or „Mr. Fanservice“? What the hell?!?
-
Tried to give this arc a chance, but in the end I've got to admit it's been a big let down. There was so much potential with Donflamingo as a villain and the way Oda writes stories and plays them out. But this arc has been too cliche, with too many characters and the biggest problem has been the lack of effect the villains have had. The plot was pretty simple, for Donflamingo I expected something as clever as Crocodile's role in Alabasta, especially the way Donflamingo had his own "pace" (remember that? was never followed up like many things). Having characters in the arc as powerful as Sabo and Fujitora was a bad idea in my opinion, not being the strongest on the island made Donflamingo less imposing, and also Sabo and Fuji haven't really done that much considering the state the island is in and their general importance (wrong time to introduce Sabo again IMO). The manga has become a bit too crazy, and needs to get back down to earth a bit with designs and generally the plotlines. Things seem rushed now, Oda needs to create the same type of plots he did for Alabasta or Skypiea, because those two were storytelling gold the way things weaved together. This final fight between Luffy & Donflamingo has had no where near the effect the final fight between Luffy & Crocodile had.
To me One Piece isn't what it used to be, or it's gone on so long that its effect has worn out because of repetitiveness. Hopefully the next arc, probably Zou or maybe Wano, will have a better story and less characters to focus on.
-

-
No he's strong enough, he just doesn't have the enough endurance to do it.
Eh, I don't think you could say for sure that in a one vs one Luffy would beat DD. There's been a lot of outside factors in all of the Law/Luffy/DD fights that make it hard to judge how they measure up to each other. Although personally I would saw that Law is definitely weaker than DD.
-
No he's strong enough, he just doesn't have the enough endurance to do it.
He should not have wasted the seconds letting Doffy hit him, he should have just gone all out from the moment he entered Gear 4 as every second counts.
All they need to do is delay Doffy, Sabo is dealing with Burgess and should easily be able to deal with him.
I wonder if Luffy will pull something even more special in his desperation to stop Doffy from hurting anyone else, perhaps awakening his own fruit in the process.
-
Yes, it will become a common feature if someone expresses their opinion in a vague manner, just because what is said is understandable doesn't make it a reasonable point to reiterate over and over to the point of annoyance. The Sabo bashing should be met equally with the Burgess bashing for balance's sake.
This thing again?
Look here, people voiced their annoyance at the Sabo-Burgess confrontation. Then other people, you included, responded to that, and struck up a conversation. As long as you, yourself, keep perpetuating the discussion you don't get to play the "omg people are discussing this way too much" card.
Of course, you could have a base assumption that disliking this chapters ending is an objectively invalid opinion, which doesn't deserve to clog up the thread, and that people of this opinion should just roll over and stop posting it- but that would be silly. -

With Gear 4 and from what has been shown it seems to be:
Luffy >> Doffy >> Law
That is the impression I get, that is all of them being fresh.
Doffy had no problems with Law and Luffy has no problems with Doffy while in Gear 4.
-
This only goes with what Mihawk said in the war and we saw in Impel down, Marineford, Dressrosa. Luffy's special power is not his strength but the power to make friends in anyone and they help him.
That's how he will beat DD, even if DD is stronger and I don't see why it's a hard thing to accept.
-
I know this forum has a big hard on for Villains and all, but if Luffy would have stayed in Gear 4 Doflamingo would be finished.

What do you mean with the bolded?
-
I thought it was a good chapter. I like that Doflamingo is giving quite a bit of trouble to Luffy. He really is the first credible villain in the story. That double-page of him breaking the Flower Hill plateau was really cool and Sabo shbowing up to hold off Burgess was cool, too.
-
Endurance has everything to do with strength.
If Doffy can clearly tank/dodge the entirety of one cycle of Luffy's Gear 4, it's pretty clear that without Sabo, Luffy's dead here. -
With Gear 4 and from what has been shown it seems to be:
Luffy >> Doffy >> Law

Doffy had no problems with Law and Luffy has no problems with Doffy while in Gear 4.
But even now, Doffy's still standing, after all the abuse his body's taken. And Luffy's in a bad state, having had a far easier time of it against Bellamy. I think it's more of a grey area.

Yes, Robzilla is operating on the base assumption that BBs crew will be endgame.
Yes, you are not.Problem is, even though you acknowledge these different base assumptions, you ridicule Robzillas opinion, because you refuse to see his base assumption as a valid possibility. Its kind of bizarre.
Its like, lets say you don't like Usopp, but you acknowledge that others do. Then Usopp dies, the people who like him are sad- and you mock them for that, because "lol why are you sad? I'm not sad"
