Maybe I was not clear enough. Weak is of course a bogus term unless used relatively. By weak I mean, weaker than Vergo, at least during the small skirmish they had.
Again, that boils down to him being significantly injured or not as well as the low amount of time available. This is just a case of agreeing to disagree. Too many unknown factors in play.

That's not what I mean. What I mean is that he would not try to block Vergo's kick like that, if he knew it would fracture his leg. It is common sense not wanting to fracture your leg. You can see how he dodged or blocked the kicks in a different way than he initially did after the fracture. If he had done that from the start, he probably wouldn't have been injured.

Some giants are strong, some are weak. But because you want Sanji to be facing the strongest, you are automatically assuming Wadatsumi to be the strongest even though he was an underling.
All of them were underlings. And size does matter, since it gives an inherent advantage. And yes I am not denying I have a bias towards Sanji, but I also stated that he probably didn't need to team up with Jinbei anyway.
Which just solidifies that being a Giant in itself does not mean you are strongest. you can still be weaker than others.
I never stated otherwise. I simply meant that bigger size gives an inherent advantage, just like being a fishman does. Them being easily defeated just shows that these advantages can be overcome, and that is an entirely different matter.
Almost any new entity is supposed to be hyped up. Most new characters look strong on their entry, regardless of being large or small.
Giants always have strength and size, but they are also always defeated by relatively normal sized people. Why is then Wadatsumi the strongest at FI? I don't see any reason to believe so.
Look at the other underlings. Who would you think could have a chance. Maybe Hyozou, since he had swords, but I just can't see anyone else. I was a bit annoyed when I wrote that and made it seem like a fact, when it is just an opinion.
Smoker was purposefully giving away the fight. Which made defeating him trivial for Vergo. He himself pointed that out.
That fight made me think that there is little, if any, gap between Smoker and Vergo. And that Smoker would have put up a tough fight if he wasn't giving Vergo so many openings.
Smoker tried to beat him fair and square initially. When that didn't work, he resorted to retrieving the heart instead. IF Smoker could actually beat him, why wouldn't he just do so and give Law his heart back afterwards? One could argue that it was easier to just let Law do it, but trying to retrieve the heart was a gamble and he had the motivation to beat him himself. To me there was a clear gap.

Most of these are too underdeveloped I think. It doesn't seem like we will see any candidate before a while after Jinbei joins.
Exactly, except that it's the other way around. The Shicibukai title is irrelevant and Ace fought Jinbe a long time ago. Ace had gotten stronger after that encounter. We don't even know how that Ace would have faired against current Luffy either. This is as silly as saying that Moriah is as strong as a Yonko because he matched Kaido at one point in the past. Please don't try to use G2 as some form of proof. Hyouzou, Monet, and Caesar, all weaklings, managed to react to G2 attacks. Their rivalry is merely comic relief and has never been presented as anything more It's not based on assumptions as I explained to Romance.

I think the guy just doesn't like Sanji, the fact that he doesn't want to admit that Sanji hasn't had a fight and was plot beaten twice makes no sense.

Problem is with the Big Mom Pirates the same thing is probably even if he is able to beat Tamago or Pekoms there are a bunch of guys there on the boat.
At the very most (in terms of action for Sanji), I could see Sanji taking down Pekoms and the SH's escaping.
Tamago hasn't had anywhere near enough revealed about him to be beaten at this point, in his first fight of any kind.
Pekoms on the other hand, has smacked Caribou around and had his DF/bounty revealed already.

I mean...I don't think anybody in these lists will join. Jinbe is a delayed member of the Strawhats...similar to Nami and Robin "officially" joining later. So he isn't a candidate in my eyes...he IS/WILL BE a Strawhat...we just aren't there yet in the story.
I don't think another swordsman is a necessity and what is either ones skill set for the crew? "Tailor" and "Defender"? I don't recall any Strawhats position having anything to do with their Devil Fruit powers...maybe Chopper.
But I will leave the door to possibility to a Kinemon or Bartolomeo simply because I don't know what crew position will be considered important for the Strawhats and the story. Helmsman and Lookout is what I will speculate until further information is given. If Kinemon or Bartolomeo or whomever else show some skill for either then my opinion will change.

Don't confuse "what Luffy wants" and "what the author knows the story needs".
Luffy may not have wanted an archeologist, but the plot did.
Anyone else that joins is going to have a distinct useful role within the crew that no one else does, even if their is a little bit of overlap. (Such as Franky and Usopp both work on building things… but Franky is pro at it. Sanji is a good swimmer, but Jinbe will be a master. Etc.)
I know this isn't what the threads made for but since the discussion has been steel for a little while (exact same stuff going on as the beginning of dressrosa) could we possibly name canidates we know oda would never let join but list our reasons why we like them as ideas to fantasize about and how we think they would interact with other crew members

Crocodile….. no seriously. We know he'd never join as he was one of the major villains, is pretty damn evil but mostly because he has Daz as his right hand man (who has no where to go without him) his dream is also to be pirate king..... and he stands for everything the straw hats don't
but the bold reason is actually why I like him, his character and behavior will never allow you to extend him any sort of trust, he'll constantly be the vegeta, the guy you know is only around when it's convenient and will screw you over if it helps his agenda, the crew would always have to be watchful, and any sort of plan they decide on would have the fear behind it that croco might throw a monkey wrench in it, kind of like being the jean of the crew (jean from firefly that is)
not to mention his interactions with both robin and jinbei would be amazing (jinbei cause I assume they have a sort of rivalry from the way they've behaved around each other that would develop into a sanji zoro thing)

What are the reasons?
Ceaser was working under Dofla for protection and allowing himself to shine. He had some sort of contract by the looks of it with Dofla. Dofla didn't trust Ceaser as he sent Monet to keep an eye on him.
Now that Ceaser doesn't have this anymore, no where to go, and now he's spending time with the strawhats with Big Mom after Ceaser.
I think he'll stick around a quite a bit. He had some sort of deal with Big Mom and might even have insights on whatever.

I think Nami is more Quartermaster than Boatswain. Never see her do any real labor.
One of the duties I believe for the Boatswain position is protecting the hull which is the bottom part of the ship. Who better than a fishman, no?
I don't think Jinbe's complete dream has been stated yet. It will probably be some amalgamation of Princess Otohime's dream, Fisher Tiger's dream, and some other influence we have yet to see that deals with his eye scar.

There's that whole "experimenting on kids" thing. Now, a lot of the Strawhats have some dark shit in their pasts, but that's a different level. Hell, he's great with the crew, unique design, unique powers, but he's not joining the crew. Given his circumstances, he could stick around for a while (he's wanted by both Big Mom and Kaido, so either he's in Big Mom's custody now, or he's going to be around for the majority of the Pirates Alliance Saga), but I doubt he's joining the crew.

Sanji fought characters and had his chances to show off something impressive. If Luffy, Law, and Zoro can have great showings facing characters much weaker than they are, there shouldn't be this much damage control for Sanji.

You don't know if Vergo used Haki or not. That is a speculation. Frankly Vergo has been seen using Haki on most of his attacks, so there is no reason he didn't do it there. And even if he didn't, Sanji probably didn't do it either, so that doesn't really say anything.. Furthermore "heart attacks" mean nothing, when they are simply depicted as a stab of temporary pain.
Vergo didn't use hardening on Sanji. This is fact. There's no reason to assume that he used Haki at all, since that was never hinted at. The burden of proof is on you to prove that he used Haki. There was nothing indicating that he did, so we have no reason to assume otherwise.

It doesn't look like it, when they get fodderized by the heavy hitters constantly, but every time a giant shows up his strenght is the first aspect Oda showcases. Also he could fight on par with the octopus, something I doubt most of the others were capable of.

That's true. But all Ceaser is trying to achieve is scientific greatness.
If he can be shown the "good" way to do it, he can be a changed man. I mean look at Luffy and Bellamy, Bellamy probably didn't do as bad as Ceaser (depends on how Luffy views it) but Luffy sees characters again and differently.

Fair enough. The early concept art where Franky used to be a Tiny little carpenter also features a character who resembles Bartolomeo but that might be an Early version of Robin anyways. (The former Franky early version became a sort of spirit of the going merry anyways) Still, I like to hope it means a higher chance of him joining the crew too. He could be the protector of thier ship

The carpenter from that concept art was planned to be a very small fishman and not an early version of Franky (the only similarity being their role on the ship) and the character who, as you stated, resembles Bartolomeo was a man obsessed with plants whose gimmick was later given to Usopp. Robin doesn't appear in the early concepts of the Strawhat crew, she was a later addition (though I'm not certain how far along she was conceptualized)
Bartolomeo will most certainly be an ally of Luffy, along with Cavendish and the majority of those who participated in the Corrida Colosseum, but I don't see him joining the main crew.
No one is joining after this arc but someone will join after Wano, could be Kinemon and his son they've already been with them almost two arcs and it's moving onto a third potentially, could say the same about Law but Law is captain of his own crew so the ally link is formed already. I think Law will pick up some recruits from this arc though. If Monet is alive like a certain theory is predicting then she can fulfil the astronomer role in the strawhats crew. We'll have to wait and see.

The itty bitty detail of her helping to drug defenseless children may slightly hinder her in that regard.
I love the fact that Monet is identified with the Yuki-onna, a figure that both protects and destroys children depending on the myth.
It fits that this is reflected in her being completely psycho. Possibly this is because of Dofla's treatment and her inevitible traumatic childhood, which could be a redeeming factor at some point.
Unfortunately it seems obvious that the astrology is, like everything else, something she does for him rather than for herself. A cog in his big plan.

Edit: I think the only prime candidate for next nakama is Jinbei. The SH's don't have a helmsman yet, and Jinbei can also be an underwater scout.
If Monet has to join a crew then I think she should join Law. To me it seems Law's crew has a winter animal theme to it. Bepo would appreciate a snow logia as a crew member..He was complaining about being sweaty in the submarine.
