@cloudrivera:
Yea, which was East Blue and the Grandline.
Not 1 yonkou was defeated (obviously)
Only 2 Warlords were defeated
This is the New World! They can probably defeat 1 yonkou in 1 month, but not 2.
It seems your confused, the timespan of a storyline isn't dictated solely by
A. what seems reasonable to a normal pedestrian/by-standard of said story (while it takes xxx amount of time to get from the the shire to Rivendelle on a normal horse, so froto and his gang should do it in xxx amount of time, and from there with normal circumstances it should take them xxx amount of time to travel safely to mordor)
or
B. by what span of time past achievements by said main character were accomplished before compared to what he needs to be done now (while Luke sky walker and his gang destroyed a fully completed death star in xxx amount of minutes, this is a half completed one so it should only take xxxx amount of minutes)
because either of these ways you have no way to understand
A. external circumstances that said characters are unaware of and not in control of, like the Nazgûl chasing froto and his gang, and him being poisoned, or saruman betraying them etc.
or
B. internal conflicts that develop within said character that makes them behave differently then they normally would, like han solo risking an entire mission with both lando, chewbacka and his head on the line to go save the princess he ended up falling in love with… where as any other broad he would have waited till after they took down the force field to save the girl, which would have ended with them falling into the empires trap, without any teddy bear back up, and sufficiently doomed the entire alliance, allowing the dark side to win.... (see the internal conflict there actually helped them)
length of time is progressed (at least by a competent author) on many variables, like
A. How many plot point there are!!!! extrenal and internal conflict, how many variables there are. conflict that we both know of and will soon be reveled, for example in one piece we know Kin'emon and his son and friends left wano, but right now we don't know why, and we also know they are deathly afraid of Kaidou, that doflamingo works with Kaidou, and now Doflamingo wants kinnemons son, we know they wanted to go to the island named zo before they landed in Dressrosa, and that they had a tragic past that had something to do with a dragon
these variables are spread out throughout the story and us the readers can see them, and connect the dots and anticipate as to what kind of insane scenario will go down that will probably (based of past situations) end with the straw hats protecting Kin'emon and his family over some deadly group where no one else would because they are friends
B. Proper build up. this is key to a good, story, and something Oda excels at. Putting out the hints so you can connect the dots and then bringing the scenario up after having the right amount of time to bond with said character.
he's not gonna have all this build up for said kinemon scenario, for momo to be of no importance, that adds to no big scene where they need the strawhats help, not enough time with said samurai characters for us to not care what happens to them even if they did, and no emotional attempt at humanizing said characters.... that's not going to happen
No.... have no doubt that when we find out about what kinnemon is hiding from the straw hats about his family, that makes doflamingo want momo so bad, that makes kin'emon fear kaidou so much, that also caused him to leave his own country that he's proud of, for an entirely different one, it will be after proper build up with his character that makes you attached to him and followed up with a well placed tear jerking flashback all in the middle of an already intense situation that makes you care deeply for him, but a scenario so intense where your normal run of the mil heartless people would be like, "we have to much baggage to take care of right now with Yonko's and such we don't need this shit, it'll be the end of us", but your lovable straw hat crew will be like "fuck this shit! this guy is our friend... stand down now or prepare for the ass kicking of the century mother fucker" that will have both enough heartbreaking tears of gratitude from Kine'mon and co. towards luffy and crew to make you cry, and enough "THERE IS GOING TO BE A FIRE FIGHT!!!!" feeling that they might as well have put giant neon sign sign saying such and manually pumped each manga geek who read the chapter full of adrenaline to get you more ramped up for what's about to happen CAUSE SHITS GONNA HIT THE FAN AND YOUR PUMPED!!!!!!!!!!
...... got a little to into that
C. things like preparing enough, thinking out the story well enough, or if you don't plan like kubo who goes with "the flow", or just don't care that much like kishi. And how well you work with your editor, or if you have brain dead editors like kubo and kishi who don't smack you into place when shit starts dropping in quality (and we know oda prepares the crap out of his manga due to foreshadowing and early looks at what the series was gonna be, and still deeply cares for his series.... and that despite his success his editor still gives him helpful advice, like when he told him to spice up chapter 498 because it was to dry and we ended up getting the super novas)
D. how well it's selling: with one piece this isn't so much an issue (since it makes bank) but if an arc is taking to long to get going and people stop reading the story most editors might tell you to hurry that shit up, or to get too the good stuff, which can either take away from what would have been rich engrossing story details that would later help flesh out the series.... or senseless drizzle like Kubo's character saying stupid lame poetry bullshit that makes no sense
...... I'm sure there are others people who will elaborate on but that's it for me for right now
